[OVERVIEW]

Vileplume's reliable bulk and good defensive typing allow it to act as a switch-in to common pivots in RU such as Mienshao and Xurkitree as well stand up to scary physical sweepers threats like Barbaracle, Slurpuff, Mimikyu, and Tyrantrum, (ttrum and barbaracle dont seem like the best mentions of physical threats here maybe stuff like skewda and heracross among others) while its Effect Spore ability carries a chance to punish their contact moves with status. Accentuating its ability to tank physical hits is its ability to heal itself by a large amount while further weakening the power of physical attackers with Strength Sap(small comment here but this sentence just feels kinda weird maybe you'd want to rewrite it in simpler terms). In addition, Vileplume also matches up well against Water-, Electric-, and Ground-types in general, giving it opportunities to actively threaten the opposing team. It is best suited to stall builds or balance teams Vileplume can fit on a variety of archetypes ranging from bulky offense to balance and even stall, providing a check to RU's more popular pivots and wallbreakers(plume's quite versatile on the archetypes it can fit on so yeah definitely mention bulky offense as well). (Unfortunately, Vileplume can get worn down quickly by chip damage and hazards and so is often forced to use its recovery to remain healthy, which gives openings to the likes of Toxtricity, Crobat, and Noivern to switch in and apply pressure.)relocate this to the bottom where you speak about plume getting worn down by hazards, helps the analysis flow better) Water-types such as Milotic, Gastrodon, and Suicune make good partners for Vileplume for their ability to put up check Fire-types, while Vileplume can tank the Grass- and Electric-type hits they are weak to in exchange. Because it often invites in Flying-types like Tornadus and Crobat, Electric-type teammates like Xurkitree and Raikou can come in handy. Porygon2 appreciates having Vileplume as a teammate for dealing with Mienshao, while it handles Toxtricity in kind. Registeel and Steelix make good teammates for Vileplume for their ability to check offensive Psychic-types like Gardevoir and Necrozma. Incineroar and Umbreon make great teammates for their ability to check Chandelure. Because it can be worn down and overwhelmed with Spikes on its side of the field, entry hazard removal from Defog users like Flygon or Togekiss is highly appreciated. (also mention stuff like xatu which takes advantage of vileplume's strength sap and can use it to gain momentum via future sight or just teleport)

[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Giga Drain
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Strength Sap
move 4: Corrosive Gas
item: Black Sludge
ability: Effect Spore
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Giga Drain hits decently hard with no investment thanks to Vileplume's naturally high Special Attack. Sludge Bomb as the secondary STAB option deals respectable damage and also makes Togekiss wary of switching in. Vileplume's Strength Sap allows it amazing matchup opportunities against enables it to beat many physical attackers, as it can often heal to full and weaken their damage output at the same time. Corrosive Gas removes items, punishing the opponent's swaps into Pokemon like Metagross that hope to come in and shift momentum. Effect Spore allows Vileplume to annoy physical attackers even more by carrying the risk of inflicting a contact attacker with Sleep, Poison, or Paralysis status, which has the potential to render cripple threats such as Mienshao and Barraskewda easily beatable. Bold nature and maximum investment in physical bulk makes it as much of a wall as possible.

Other Options
=============

Sleep Powder is an option to incapacitate troublesome switch-ins such as Chandelure to generate free turns for Vileplume and its teammates, but is generally less practical than Corrosive Gas on the whole. Aromatherapy can be used to allow Vileplume to function as a cleric, which teammates like Quagsire on stall would especially appreciate. Toxic can be used to put other bulky Pokemon on a timer and will never miss, but can often disappoint because Vileplume draws in Crobat and Steel-types which are immune.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Darmanitan, Chandelure, Entei, Volcanion, and Alolan Marowak can threaten Vileplume with an immediate OHKO.

**Psychic-types**: Psychics such as Necrozma, Metagross, Reuniclus, and Celebi are scary for Vileplume to face, as they can deal heavy damage or set up on it to sweep. (mention sigilyph and xatu too those 2 really pressure vileplume)

**Flying-types**: Flying-types like Noivern, Togekiss, and Crobat can heavily damage Vileplume, though Noivern and Togekiss must be wary of switching into Sludge Bomb. Crobat reigns as the best Vileplume swap in the metagame by virtue of its defensive typing and ability to threaten it with Brave Bird or pivot out for momentum.

**Dhelmise**: Dhelmise is able to trap and set up on Vileplume for a potential sweep after finally getting its KO.
