[SET COMMENTS]

Volcanion steams its opponents in AAA with a powerful mixed set, taking advantages of its excellent offensive stats of 110 and 130. Its excellent coverage and access to Flare Blitz allows it to threaten numerous Pokemon, including common special walls such as Blissey and Jirachi that may try to switch-in, as well as metagame staples such as Corviknight and Heatran. Recoil-less Flarz Blitz threaten Steel-types, and notably OHKOes Jirachi and 2HKOes Blissey, whereas Steam Eruption is its main STAB move that can threaten Fire- and Ground-types such as Heatran and Hippowdon, as well as burning its switch-ins. Sludge Bomb is its main option to hit Tapu Fini super effectively, and it can also poisons switch-ins such as Chansey. Earth Power hits Toxapex, that resists all its other coverage moves, and can also help to pass through specific answers such as Water Absorb Nihilego and Heatran. Volcanion can also act as a soft check to Triage Tapu Lele and Togekiss, as well as Fire-types such as Cinderace due do its resistances, but it is not really reliable due to its lack of recovery. Maximum investments in Special Attack and Speed allow Volcanion to wallbreak efficiently, as it doesn't need any Attack EVs to 2HKO special walls. A Rash nature is preferred to take less damages on physical hits such as Zarude's Grassy Glide and Cinderace's attacks.

Magic Guard Volcanion fits best on balance teams that appreciate its capacity to wallbreak efficiently and that can bring it often on the field. Partners like Tapu Koko and Inteleon appreciate its ability to pass through special walls like Blissey, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn, and they can bring Volcanion in front of them with Volt Switch and U-turn. They also offer Speed control to alleviate Volcanion's average Speed, as well as other Pokemon such as Grassy Surge Zarude and Scarf Landorus-Therian, that also appreciate Volcanion breaking through Corviknight. Volcanion also like entry hazards support from Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Mew in order to wear down its checks like Chansey and Kommo-o. Lastly, solid defensive backbone is needed to deal with all the Pokemon that threaten Volcanion out such as Tapu Koko, Zygarde-10%, and Terrakion, so partners like Ferrothorn and Dauntless Shield Mew are appreciated.

[SET COMMENTS]

Volcanion uses its solid Special Attack of 130 to turn itself in a deadly wallbreaker that can pass through the bulkier walls with its access to a powerful rain-boosted STAB move in Steam Eruption and Weather Ball. With Primordial Sea, Volcanion can switch on most Desolate Land users such as Cinderace, Entei, and Heatran as it fears virtually nothing from their moves thanks to its great bulk, and threaten them back. It's also able to 2HKOes most RegenVest users such as Jirachi and Swampert, as well as Blissey, and to threaten common Pokemon, such as Corviknight and Hippowdon. Steam Eruption is particularly efficient as it can burn its switch-ins and soft checks such as Chansey and Garchomp, making it easier to pass through them; Weather Bell is slightly less strong but allows it to hit Desolate Land users such as Heatran that may try to switch. Sludge Bomb is its best option against specially defensive Tapu Fini, OHKOes Zarude on the switch, and can poisons key targets such as Chansey; alternatively, Sludge Wave is slightly less strong but has a very few chance of poison. Earth Power allows Volcanion to cleanly 2HKOes Toxapex, and it doesn't need much more coverage with its powerful Water STAB move. Maximum investments and a Modest nature are used to do as much damage as possible.

Primordial Sea Volcanion fits best in balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate the immediate raw power and the weather control it offers, allowing it to soft check key threats like Desolate Land Cinderace and Heatran. It supports special wallbreakers like Tapu Lele in order to overwhelm checks like Jirachi and Chansey, and it also appreciates physical breakers like Zarude and Galarian Zapdos that bring it on the field against the likes of Corviknight or Mew, and help Volcanion to threaten Chansey and specially defensive Ferrothorn. As it is weak to entry hazards damage, Volcanion appreciate strong Defoggers like Corviknight and Tapu Fini, but it also appreciates hazards setters like Ferrothorn and Garchomp is order to easily wear down the opposite team. Speed control is also needed as Volcanion's Speed is mediocre, so Pokemon like Choice Scarf Azelf, Grassy Surge Zarude, and Tapu Koko are all great partners.

Other Options
=============

Volcanion can also be used with Desolate Land, with Fire Blast or Overheat over Steam Eruption in order to weaken Steel-types easily and to check Barraskewda, but the burn of Steam Eruption and the Water-stab is usually more valuable. Swift Swim in rain teams is also an option, but it is not really consistent. Lastly, Substitute is an option over Earth Power on Magic Guard in order to easily abuse of the switches Volcanion forces.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Despite being able to overwhelm most of specially defensive walls with Flare Blitz or Weather-boosted moves, Volcanion has a hard time passing through specific walls such as Chansey and Silvally-Dragon, that can comfortably take its hits and pivot around.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Due to Volcanion's average Speed and medium bulk, plenty of offensive Pokemon can outspeed it and OHKO it, such as Terrakion, Tapu Koko, and Zygarde-10%.

Recoil-less Flare Blitz threaten Steel-types, and notably OHKOes Jirachi and 2HKOes Blissey, I would probably just emphasize Blissey here, a fire type attacker beating jirachi isn't really news, but a special attacker beating blissey is whereas Steam Eruption is its main STAB move that can threaten Fire- and Ground-types such as Heatran and Hippowdon, as well as burning its switch-ins. Sludge Bomb is its main option to hit Tapu Fini super effectively, and it can also poisons switch-ins such as Chansey. Maximum investments and a Modest nature are used to do as much damage as possible, notably having a high chance to 2HKO Calm Blissey after burn damage.
