UU Volcanion [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

:ss/Volcanion:

[OVERVIEW]

Volcanion's unique typing, decent coverage, and solid stat distribution make it a decent Defogger in UU. It can use its typing to beat entry hazard setters such as Rhyperior and Jirachi and break down common defensive cores consisting of Pokemon like Rhyperior and Amoonguss. Volcanion's defensive typing also gives it resistances to STAB attacks from powerful Pokemon such as Azumarill, Barraskewda, and Primarina, and its good bulk lets it trade with Pokemon like Aegislash and Zarude. Its movepool allows it to threaten Pokemon that resist its STAB combination like Primarina with Sludge Bomb and cripple defensive answers like Seismitoad with Toxic. Despite having a strong matchup against some of the tier's entry hazard setters, it also fares poorly against other common setters like Krookodile, Nihilego, and Seismitoad, which either outspeed and KO Volcanion or fear nothing from it barring Toxic. Furthermore, Volcanion's lack of reliable recovery causes it to be worn down throughout a match and makes it face competition from Salamence as a Defogger or RestTalk Primarina and Moltres as a Water- or Fire-type. Without Toxic, Volcanion can be used as setup fodder by sweepers like Necrozma and Kommo-o. Furthermore, it becomes vulnerable to Pokemon like Seismitoad and Rotom-W, which can freely set up Stealth Rock or gain momentum through Volt Switch. Despite Volcanion's good bulk, its weakness to common offensive types like Rock and Electric and its low Speed leave it easily revenge killed by powerful Pokemon such as Lycanroc-D, Nihilego, and Thundurus-T.

[SET COMMENTS]

Steam Eruption and Flamethrower threaten metagame staples like Rotom-H, Rhyperior, Amoonguss, and Aegislash. Steam Eruption in particular allows Volcanion to cripple physical attackers like Gyarados and negate the passive recovery of Pokemon like Tentacruel. Sludge Bomb allows Volcanion to hit Pokemon that resist its STAB combination, such as Primarina, Keldeo, Azumarill, and Salamence. Its high poison chance also allows Volcanion to potential cripple switch-ins like Rotom-W, Salamence, and Gastrodon. Sludge Wave is an option for its stronger damage output and ability to hit Bulletproof Kommo-o, but these advantages aren't as useful as the high poison chance from Sludge Bomb. Defog lets Volcanion act as an effective entry hazard remover for its team thanks to its good matchup against common entry hazard setters like Rhyperior and Jirachi. Toxic is an alternative that allows it to cripple foes like Gastrodon and Kommo-o. However, Sludge Bomb is generally better for its ability to provide immediate pressure to switch-ins like Primarina and Rotom-W. Water Absorb helps Volcanion offset its lack of recovery by letting it regain health on a switch into Water-type attacks from foes like Primarina and Keldeo.

Volcanion fits on balance and bulky offense teams that enjoy it being able to pressure Grass- and Steel-types such as Amoonguss and Aegislash and act as a decent Defogger. Zarude is a partner that can take on bulky Water-types like Seismitoad and Gastrodon for Volcanion and benefit from it pressuring foes like Buzzwole, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth in return. Pivots like Zarude and Mienshao can safely bring in Volcanion with U-turn, giving it free chances to wallbreak. Bulky Grass-types like Tangrowth and Amoonguss are able to pivot into threats like Krookodile and Rotom-W and absorb Knock Off for Volcanion. Krookodile and Rhyperior appreciate Volcanion dealing with Pokemon like Azumarill and Primarina for them, while they can take on Pokemon like Nihilego and Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro for it in return. They also can provide entry hazard support to wear down Pokemon like Rotom-W. Hatterene benefits from Volcanion removing Steel-types such as Aegislash and Celesteela; in return, it can deal with Dragon-types like Salamence and Kommo-o and serve as a second source of entry hazard control, preventing Volcanion from being overwhelmed.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Volcanion can utilize a Choice Specs set due to its excellent Special Attack stat and solid coverage, but a weakness to Stealth Rock and a low Speed tier limit its effectiveness as a wallbreaker. It also faces competition from Pokemon that fulfill similar roles like Chandelure and Primarina; Chandelure is faster and has a better offensive typing, while Primarina has more spammable STAB attacks and better utility due to its Fairy typing. Volcanion can run a Choice Scarf set to lure faster threats like Krookodile by being able to outspeed and OHKO them. Volcanion can also run a set with Substitute and Toxic, allowing it to take advantage of and cripple switch-ins like Salamence, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad. However, it struggles to choose between Leftovers and Heavy-Duty Boots for its item and cannot set up Substitute at times without prediction. Substitute also compounds Volcanion's lack of recovery.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Chansey** Chansey walls Volcanion and doesn't fear Toxic due to Natural Cure. It is able to whittle down Volcanion with Seismic Toss or status it with Toxic, taking advantage of Volcanion's lack of recovery and limiting it throughout the game.

**Electric-types**: Electric-types like Thundurus, Raikou, and Rotom-W outspeed and heavily damage Volcanion with their powerful STAB attacks, as well as gain momentum with Volt Switch. Rotom-W in particular resists Volcanion's STAB combination, allowing it to switch in and force it out.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Noivern, Salamence, and Kommo-o resist Volcanion's STAB combination and hit it hard, with setup sweeper variants of the latter two being able to use Volcanion as setup fodder if it forgoes Toxic. However, Dragon Dance Salamence and Swords Dance Kommo-o fear a burn from Steam Eruption.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad and Gastrodon wall Volcanion, as they can pivot into its STAB attacks and force it out. Tentacruel can also pivot into any of Volcanion's attacks and cripple it with Knock Off or Sludge Bomb. However, both Seismitoad and Gastrodon don't like getting poisoned by Sludge Bomb.

**Faster Threats**: Faster Pokemon such as Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Nihilego outspeed Volcanion and OHKO it with their super effective attacks.

[OVERVIEW]

-Volcanion's unique typing, wide movepool, don't see the point in adding this since its not like ur gonna run coverage other than sludge wave, you can just add that it gets coverage for its checks e.g prim and solid stat distribution makes it a decent option to use in the UU metagame, allowing it to act as an offensive Defogger capable of taking on common defensive cores. what cores? Its ability to deal with common entry hazard setters such as Rhyperior and Jirachi makes it a valuable asset to teams it is used on.
-Volcanion's typing gives it resistances to STAB attacks from powerful Pokemon such as Azumarill, Scizor, and Primarina, being able to effectively threaten them throughout the entirety of the game. it can threaten them because of its offensive typing + coverage, not defensive typing, otherwise ur just sitting there. could add how the defensive typing is useful though In addition, its good bulk lets it trade with Pokemon like Aegislash and Zarude.
-Volcanion's unique STAB combination and great Special Attack stat lets it take down defensive walls such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, Buzzwole, and Celesteela. Its wide movepool offensive typing also allows it to threaten Pokemon that resist its STAB combination like Primarina with Sludge Wave or cripple defensive answers to it like Seismitoad with Toxic.
-Despite having a strong matchup against many 2-3 isn't many, especially when rachi is rare atm of the tier's entry hazard setters, it also has a poor matchup against other common setters like Krookodile, Kommo-o, and Seismitoad, who either outspeed and KO Volcanion or fear nothing from it barring Toxic and can effectively keep up Stealth Rock against it. Furthermore, Volcanion's lack of reliable recovery causes it to be worn down throughout a match and makes it face competition from Salamence as a Defogger due to Salamence being easier to fit on teams and having reliable recovery.
-Without Toxic, Volcanion can be used as setup fodder by sweepers like Galarian Moltres and Kommo-o. Furthermore, it becomes a sitting duck against Pokemon like Seismitoad and Rotom-W, freely using it to set up Stealth Rock or gain free momentum through Volt Switch, respectively.
-Despite Volcanion's good bulk, its low speed makes it easily revenge killed by powerful Pokemon that can hit it for heavy damage such as Thundurus-T, Lycanroc-D, and Nihilego. weak to common offensive typings too like ground, rock, and electric, can just tie it before naming those mons

Paragraph 1
-Steam Eruption and Flamethrower are Volcanion's STAB attacks, effectively threatening threaten info we already know + unnecessarily long a large portion of metagame staples like Rotom-H, Scizor, Amoonguss, and Aegislash. Steam Eruption in particular allows it to cripple physical attackers like Gyarados with a burn thanks to it having a 30% burn chance.
-Sludge Wave allows Volcanion to hit Pokemon that resist its STAB combination such as Primarina, Keldeo, Azumarill, and Salamence. Sludge Bomb is an option to use due to its higher chance to Poison the opponent, but Volcanion is then effectively walled by Bulletproof Kommo-o as a result. i def wouldn't say walled, burn from steam eruption negates lefties and kommo-o then just gets worn down. Just highlight that wave has higher power but bomb has higher chance of poisoning.
-Defog lets Volcanion act as an effective entry hazard remover for its team thanks to its good matchup against common entry hazard setters like Rhyperior. add clanger
-Toxic is an alternative move option that allows it to cripple setup sweepers that don't fear any of Volcanion's attacks like Galarian Moltres and Kommo-o. It also helps cripple common defensive answers like Salamence and Gastrodon.

Paragraph 2
-Volcanion fits on balance and bulky offense teams that enjoy it being able to pressure the Grass- and Steel-types of the tier such as Amoonguss and Celesteela as well as act as a decent Defogger. they also like water absorb for mons like krook and amoong that either die to water-type moves or don't like getting burned, so mention its ability.
-Grass-types like Zarude and Tapu Bulu are able to take on bulky Water-types like Seismitoad and Gastrodon for Volcanion and appreciate it being able to pressure answers to them like Buzzwole, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth in return. Tapu Bulu also provides passive recovery for Volcanion with Grassy Terrain to make up for Volcanion's lack of recovery. eq having lowered power is nice too. mention how they beat prim too, that's pretty relevant now
-Krookodile and Rhyperior appreciate Volcanion dealing with Pokemon like Azumarill and Primarina for them and in return can take on Pokemon like Nihilego and Galarian Slowbro for it.
-Hatterene is another Pokemon that likes Steel-types think this is meant to reference the first paragraph but i'd remove this "another pokemon" cuz i had to look at the other paragraphs to search for steel-type mentions since they are far apart, just add it likes them gone such as Aegislash and Scizor removed, and can deal with Dragon-types like Salamence and Kommo-o in return as well as act as secondary entry hazard control, keeping Volcanion from being overwhelmed.

-A Choice Specs set is possible for Volcanion to use due to its powerful Special Attack stat and solid coverage, but a weakness to Stealth Rock and a low speed tier limits its effectiveness as a breaker and faces competition from Pokemon that fulfill similar roles like Primarina and Chandelure. explain why e.g chandy has better offensive typing and speed, prim has actual defensive utility due to typing + more spammable stabs
-A SubToxic set is possible to be run on Volcanion, allowing it to take advantage of normal switch-ins like Salamence, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad, crippling them and hindering their longevity throughout a match. mention why it's not as good e.g has to choose between lefties and hdb, can't get sub up on things like mence without predicting etc, can't use water absorb due to sub to recover health etc

Just a little comment: your sentences are wordy at times, a good example is this last one where I just switched "are all Pokemon that are able to" to "can" and kept the same meaning. This is more of a GP thing but also makes QC job way easier.

-Volcanion's unique typing, decent coverage, and solid stat distribution makes it a decent option to use in the UU metagame, allowing it to act as an offensive Defogger capable of taking on common defensive cores like Amoonguss +Rhyperior Its ability to deal with common entry hazard setters such as Rhyperior and Jirachi makes it a valuable asset to teams it is used on. This doesn't need to be a separate sentence and can instead be worked into your main sentence.
-Volcanion's defensive typing gives it resistances to STAB attacks from powerful Pokemon such as Azumarill, Scizor, and Primarina while being able to offensively pressure them throughout the entirety of the game thanks to its own STAB attacks and coverage this is already a bit wordy so I'd remove this considering it's a bit fluffy. In addition, its good bulk lets it trade with Pokemon like Aegislash and Zarude.
-Volcanion's unique STAB combination and great Special Attack stat lets it take down defensive walls such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, Buzzwole, and Celesteela. Its offensive typing I think you mean its move pool also allows it to threaten Pokemon that resist its STAB combination like Primarina with Sludge Wave or cripple defensive answers to it like Seismitoad with Toxic.
-Despite having a strong matchup against some of the tier's entry hazard setters, it also has a poor matchup against other common setters like Krookodile and Seismitoad, who either outspeed and KO Volcanion or fear nothing from it barring Toxic and can effectively keep up Stealth Rock against it unnecessary info that can already be inferred.
-Despite Volcanion's good bulk, its weakness to common offensive typing like Rock, Groundyou don't list any Ground-types as examples so remove this part, and Electric in addition to its low speed makes it easily revenge killed by powerful Pokemon such as Thundurus-T, Lycanroc-D, and Nihilego.

Paragraph 1
-Steam Eruption and Flamethrower threaten a large portion of metagame staples like Rotom-H, Scizor, Amoonguss, and Aegislash. Steam Eruption in particular allows it to cripple physical attackers like Gyarados with a burn thanks to it having a 30% burn chance while also being able to negate the Leftovers recovery of Pokemon like Hatterene and Sylveon.
-Sludge Wave allows Volcanion to hit Pokemon that resist its STAB combination such as Primarina, Keldeo, Azumarill, and Salamence. Sludge Bomb is an option due to its higher chance to Poison the opponent, but Volcanion is then reliant on burns from Steam Eruption to make progress against Bulletproof Kommo-o as a result. Adjust this so that Sludge Bomb is written as the favorable Poison-type attacking option. You can still bring up Sludge Wave for its stronger damage output and ability to hit Bulletproof Kommo-o, but mention that these aren't as situationally useful of perks as the high poison chance of Sludge Bomb.
-Defog lets Volcanion act as an effective entry hazard remover for its team thanks to its good matchup against common entry hazard setters like Rhyperior add Jirachi as an example here too.
-Toxic is an alternative move option that allows it to cripple setup sweepers that don't fear any of Volcanion's attacks like Galarian Moltres and Kommo-o. It also helps cripple common defensive answers like Salamence and Gastrodon. I'd note that despite its worse reliability to poison foes, Sludge Bomb is still preferable for its ability to apply immediate pressure to switch-ins like Primarina and Rotom-W.

Paragraph 2
-Volcanion fits on balance and bulky offense teams that enjoy it being able to pressure the Grass- and Steel-types of the tier such as Amoonguss and Celesteela as well as act as a decent Defogger.

Tapu Bulu also provides passive recovery for Volcanion with Grassy Terrain to make up for Volcanion's lack of recovery while also weakening Earthquake from Pokemon like Krookodile. Add Tangrowth and Amoonguss here for their ability to pivot into some stuff for Volcanion, like Krookodile and Rotom-W, while being able to absorb Knock Off.
-Krookodile and Rhyperior appreciate Volcanion dealing with Pokemon like Azumarill and Primarina for them due to it's typing and ability, while they can take on Pokemon like Nihilego and Galarian Slowbro for it in return.
-Hatterene likes Steel-types such as Aegislash and Scizor removed for it and can deal with Dragon-types like Salamence and Kommo-o in return. It can also act as secondary entry hazard control, keeping Volcanion from being overwhelmed.
I'd list some more example of Dragon-type checks considering Volcanion's general proneness to them. Physical wallbreakers are also probably worth their own line here, partnering well with its decent special breaking prowess.

**Electric-types**: Electric-types like Thundurus, Raikou, and Rotom-W are able to outspeed and heavily damage Volcanion with their powerful STAB attacks as well as gain momentum off of it with Volt Switch. I'd add here that Rotom-W resists both of Volcanion's STAB attacks, which can allow it a few switch-in opportunities throughout a match.

bulky Water-types should absolutely be mentioned here. Specifically note Seismitoad/Gastrodon for their ability to pivot into either of its STAB attacks while sprinkling in some other examples, but be sure to note that most Water-types fear potential poisoning from Sludge Bomb and can struggle to directly pressure Volcanion.

You already sort of bring that up with it breaking defensive cores Its movepool also allows it to threaten Pokemon that resist its STAB combination like Primarina with Sludge Bomb or cripple defensive answers to it like Seismitoad with Toxic. Despite having a strong matchup against some of the tier's entry hazard setters, it also has a poor matchup against other common setters like Krookodile, Nihilego, and Seismitoad, who either outspeed and KO Volcanion or fear nothing from it barring Toxic. Furthermore, Volcanion's lack of reliable recovery causes it to be worn down throughout a match and makes it face competition from Salamence as a Defogger due to Salamence being easier to fit on teams and having reliable recovery. Without Toxic, Volcanion can be used as setup fodder by sweepers like Galarian Moltres and Kommo-o. Furthermore, it becomes vulnerable to Pokemon like Seismitoad and Rotom-W, freely using it to set up Stealth Rock or gain free momentum through Volt Switch, respectively. Despite Volcanion's good bulk, its weakness to common offensive typing like Rock and Electric in addition to its low Speed makes it easily revenge killed by powerful Pokemon such as Thundurus-T, Lycanroc-D, and Nihilego.

[SET COMMENTS]

Steam Eruption and Flamethrower threaten a large portion of metagame staples like Rotom-H, Scizor, Amoonguss, and Aegislash. Steam Eruption in particular allows it to cripple physical attackers like Gyarados with a burn thanks to it having a 30% burn chance while also being able to negate the Leftovers recovery of Pokemon like Hatterene and Sylveon. Sludge Bomb allows Volcanion to hit Pokemon that resist its STAB combination such as Primarina, Keldeo, Azumarill, and Salamence. Its high poison chance also allows Volcanion to potential cripple normal switch-ins like Rotom-W, Salamence, and Gastrodon. Sludge Wave is an option for its stronger damage output and ability to hit Bulletproof Kommo-o but these advantages aren't as useful as the high poison chance from Sludge Bomb. Defog lets Volcanion act as an effective entry hazard remover for its team thanks to its good matchup against common entry hazard setters like Rhyperior and Jirachi. Toxic is an alternative move option that allows it to cripple setup sweepers foes that don't fear much from any of Volcanion's attacks like Galarian Moltres, Gastrodon, and Kommo-o. It also helps cripple common defensive answers like Salamence and Gastrodon. However, despite its worse reliability to poison foes, Sludge Bomb is generally better for its ability to provide immediate pressure to switch-ins like Primarina and Rotom-W.

I'd still have a small line on Water Absorb being a key way for Volcanion to offset its lack of recovery in matchups against foes like Primarina and Choice-locked Keldeo.

Volcanion fits on balance and bulky offense teams that enjoy it being able to pressure the Grass- and Steel-types of the tier such as Amoonguss and Celesteela as well as act as a decent Defogger. Zarude is a partner that can take on bulky Water-types like Seismitoad and Gastrodon for Volcanion and appreciates it being able to pressure checks to it like Buzzwole, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth in return. Bulky Grass-types like Tangrowth and Amoonguss also make great partners for Volcanion, being able to pivot into threats like Krookodile and Rotom-W while also being able to absorb Knock Off for it. Krookodile and Rhyperior appreciate Volcanion dealing with Pokemon like Azumarill and Primarina for them due to it's typing and ability, while they can take on Pokemon like Nihilego and Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro for it in return. Hatterene likes Steel-types such as Aegislash and Scizor removed for it and can deal with Dragon-types like Salamence and Kommo-o in return. It can also act as secondary entry hazard control, keeping Volcanion from being overwhelmed. Physical wallbreakers such as Mamoswine make a great partner for Volcanion, being able to muscle through Pokemon like Chansey while also revenge killing threats like Salamence, Thundurus, and Noivern that Volcanion struggles to beat.

Something on Voltturn partners would be nice. Volcanion can still function as an effective wallbreaker but it struggles to find free turns sometimes.

A Choice Specs set is possible for Volcanion to use due to its powerful Special Attack stat and solid coverage, but a weakness to Stealth Rock and a low speed tier limits its effectiveness as a breaker and faces competition from Pokemon that fulfill similar roles like Primarina and Chandelure. Chandelure is faster and has a better offensive typing while Primarina has more spammable STAB attacks and better utility due to its Fairy-typing. Volcanion can also run a SubToxic set, allowing it to take advantage of normal switch-ins like Salamence, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad, crippling them and hindering their longevity throughout a match. However, it struggles between choosing Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots for its item and cannot get a Substitute up at times without prediction. Substitute also compounds Volcanion's issues of having a lack of recovery.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electric-types like Thundurus, Raikou, and Rotom-W are able to outspeed and heavily damage Volcanion with their powerful STAB attacks as well as gain momentum off of it with Volt Switch. Rotom-W in particular resists Volcanion's dual STAB combination, allowing it to switch in several times throughout a game and threaten it out.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Noivern, Salamence, and Kommo-o resist Volcanion's STAB combination and can hit it hard in return, with setup sweeper variants of the latter two being able to use Volcanion as set up fodder if it forgoes Toxic, though physically attacking variants of the two latter do fear a burn from Steam Eruption. Kommo-o also dislikes the burn negating its Leftovers recovery.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Seismitoad and Gastrodon wall Volcanion, being able to pivot into its STAB attacks and force it out. Tentacruel can pivot into any of Volcanion's attacks and be able to Knock Off its item or try to poison Volcanion with Sludge Bomb. However, both Seismitoad and Gastrodon don't like getting poisoned from Sludge Bomb.

**Chansey** Chansey walls Volcanion, as it tanks all of its attacks and doesn't fear Toxic due to Natural Cure. Chansey is then able to whittle down Volcanion with Seismic Toss or status it with Toxic, taking advantage of Volcanion's lack of recovery and limiting it throughout the game.

**Faster Threats** Faster Pokemon such as Mamoswine, Lycanroc-D, and Nihilego can outspeed and OHKO Volcanion with their super effective attacks.
