First seen in WCoP and now seeing usage in OLT, Safeguard Volcarona is making waves in OU. Safeguard allows Volcarona to avoid status moves that would otherwise cripple it such as Toxic or Thunder Wave. While Blissey and Chansey normally prevent Volcarona from making any ground, thanks to Safeguard, Volcarona is able to beat Blissey and Chansey one-on-one through the combination of Roost and its inability to be poisoned or paralyzed, which allows Volcarona to use them as setup fodder. The given spread maximizes Volcarona's bulk while also enabling it to outspeed Zeraora after a Quiver Dance. Due to Flamethrower being the only attacking move on this set, it is hard stopped by Toxapex, so try pairing Volcarona with Pokemon such as Block + Spite Toxapex, Trick Clefable, and Sand Tomb Scizor, as they lure in and cripple or eliminate Toxapex.

Hey, I don't think this is really what we're looking for in a set spotlight. Right now this reads like an analysis and not really like a set spotlight; no emphasis is put on Safeguard. From an informative standpoint this is pretty good, but set spotlights are moreso meant to point out metagame adaptions, which this currently does not. This thread can provide some useful tips to help you frame this in a different manner. Thank you for the effort put into this so far!

Safeguard's effect to prevent status is being used in response to the increase of status inflicting moves in the tier, allowing Volcarona to avoid status moves that would otherwise cripple it such as Toxic or Thunder Wave. The part I cut out is a bit of a vague meta observation which isn't objectively true since offense (which is usually lacking in status moves) is very prominent in OLT right now. While Blissey and Chansey normally prevent Volcarona from making any ground, thanks to Safeguard, Volcarona is able to beat Blissey and Chansey 1v1 through the combination of Roost and it's inability to be toxiced Thunder Wave too, so rephrase this, while also using which allows Volcarona to use them as setup fodder. This set spread maximizes Volcarona's bulk while also enabling it to outspeed Zeraora after a quiver dance. Due to Flamethrower being the only attacking move on Safeguard Volcarona, it is hard stopped by Toxapex, so try pairing this Volcarona set with Toxapex lures such as block spite Toxapex or Choice Specs Dragapult, Trick Clefable, and Sand Tomb Scizor. These examples are more effective at luring out and crippling/eliminating Toxapex.
