Monotype Water you doing? Fat Pressure Water Peaked #1 90%+ GXE 39-1

Water you doing?
1592014023443.png

Introduction
Hi guys. I've been easing back into mons again since the Kyurem-Black ban and came back to a team that I've been tweaking on and off for months but would not use until Kyurem was banned. Honestly, the team has a lot of threats and there is no minor changes that will benefit the team enough to justify the losses of that change. Because certain threats are way too difficult for the team to handle, it's best used more for tours rather than ladder when you have an idea of what your opp is most likely to bring and only if you can use fat teams. Not sure if the team legit bad or pretty decent, but if you enjoy fat pressure teams then this team is really fun to use!

1) Scarf is the most common set but i wanted to use band so started with that.
2) I added rain support as banded Dracovish in the rain tears apart fatter builds and annoying water resists.
3) I wanted to go a bulkier route so I splashed pex on as a generic pivot.
4) Quag was added as a proper Bisharp check and as a "physical wall" for grounds.
5 )Lapras was added due due to being Kyurem, Gengar, Hatterene, Gardevior etc weak.
6) Hazards were needed as well as secondary check to above threats so SpD Seismitoad was added.

The Sets

pelipper.gif

nerdy birdy (Pelipper) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 30 Spe
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog

Pelipper is used to set up rain for Dracovish and as a ground immunity since the team was ground weak. Because of this, a physically defensive set was chosen. This spread allows Pelipper to pivot around anything with EdgeQuake coverage wanting to abuse Toxapex and to pivot into/counter: Excadrill, Gallade, Jirachi, Barraskewda, Vileplume, and Cinderace, most of which take advantage of Toxapex. 30 speed IVs to under-slow opposing support Pelipper's U-turns

Heavy-Duty Boots are used to allow Pelipper to come in without taking rocks damage, therefore increasing his switch ins and longevity of itself and Lapras. Hurricane is used to hit grass types I guess. Hurricane allows you to be able to offensively pressure Appletun and one Hurricane puts physically defensive Ferrothorn in range of Fishious Rend from Dracovish in the rain. U-turn allows Pelipper to get either Lapras or Dracovish in safely to abuse rain. In many match ups (most notably, versus Specs Kyurem), proper positioning of rain turns is essential to handling key threats without having to sack mons. U-turn helps get Lapras in while asleep to activate Hydration while having comfy pivots to double out to and is a m a z i n g versus Bulk Up Corviknight builds. Roost is used to heal to allow Pelipper to stay around as long as possible. Finally, Defog allows Pelipper to clear away hazards to prevent the opponent from benefiting too much from offensive doubles.

"

The most common set for this mon in this tier is Scarfed AND THAT IS A DAMN SHAME. Despite this, I wanted to use a Banded set because bringing this mon in and blindly clicking Fishious Rend is the most fun thing to do in mons and no one can convince me otherwise. Adamant nature is used to maximize the damage output and because the loss of speed doesn't hurt it since it wouldn't want stay in on most things that are faster unless/especially if you need to use it as a trade or you can't easily heal up in the match up. Fishious Rend, when going first, is equivalent to a STAB Explosion in power and the move that you want to be clicking with this mon 99.69% of the time. Psychic Fangs makes use of Strong Jaw and allows you to hit anything that Fishious Rend wont, most notably Water Absorb Mantine, Lapras, and Seismitoad, all of which it either 2HKOs or wins the 1v1 after they switch in on Psychic Fangs.

While testing this team, I never clicked Outrage because the lack of being Scarfed meant that it would almost always be revenged the following turn. Crunch, the most standard coverage, hits everything that Psychic Fangs would and is really only used to hit Celebi. Because of this, I opted to give Dracovish a form of recovery to allow you to be more aggressive with bulkier builds and not have to worry about status or chip damage. This comes into play versus the Poison match up the most followed by the water mirror, especially opposing bulky water teams but can be seen in several others. Sleep Talk is used when burning sleep turns and offers a 66% chance to catch your opp off guard and win the game by OHKOing the counter that they hard switched in. Seriously. It's that easy. Can you land a Focus Blast? If so you can win the game by catching your opp off guard and pulling the roll. I'm not joking. This isn't a real set. Your opp will switch in the counter and you have a 66% chance of winning the game on the spot.

Dracovish is one of the three mons on this team that can't be swapped out without changing the integrity of the team IMO. Dracovish is essential for trading in certain match ups (Specs/CM Chandy/Galvantula *cough cough*) and completely relieves the teams of the following huge/annoying threats: Sub CM/Specs Chandelure, Hatterene, Corsola-Galar, Water Absorb Lapras, Toxapex, Vileplume, Ferrothorn, Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, and Bulk Up + Taunt Corviknight. A lot of these mons are fat breakers or annoying to the type/fat teams. While Dracovish can be one of the mons that can be swapped out for Lanturn/Araquanid to help with auto lose mons, it comes at the cost of either this loss of offensive pressure or the loss of hazards and the ability for specially offensive Ghost/Fairy/Dragon spam to break through the team much easier.

toxapex.gif

sexy pexy (Toxapex) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Baneful Bunker
- Haze

Pex is a boss. Periodt. The satisfaction level of taking out the correct mons and sitting with pex for 40 turns to win the game is over 9000. This thing is such as incredible pivot into choiced Draco/Shadow Ball/Psychic/Energy Ball spam which it proceeds to PP stall or pivot out of if Draco/Psychic because it doesn't need to waste a turn healing. Baneful Bunker allows Toxapex to not only scout choiced users wanting to take advantage of it(Excadrill, Gardevoir, Duraladon, Kyurem, Hydreigon, Chandelure, Gengar), but to PP stall attacks from Specs abusers to prevent them from haxing through the team with Spd drops and/or crits.

Black Sludge is used for passive recovery. Despite it being a pivot into a lot of special attacks, Toxapex requires a physically defensive spread. This allows Toxapex to handle Earthquake Drapion and Banded Weavile/Crawdaunt (Knock Off absorber), Earthquake + Clangerous Soul Komo-o, DD Gyarados, Sleep Talk Grimmsnarl, opposing Dracovish, Barraskewda, Mimikyu (ladder has been seeing Wood Hammer usage), Swords Dance Decidueye, Cinderace, Terrakion, King's Rock Cloyster, and mixed SD/WP Aegislash. Haze is so that the aforementioned threats cant set up and break through the team and because it prevents Poltegeist from using Toxapex as
set up fodder and winning the game.

muddy buddy (Quagsire) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic
- Earthquake

Quagsire is used as a much needed "physical wall" when Toxapex and Pelipper are getting bopped by EdgeQuake. Quagsire helps a ton versus Excadrill, Hawlucha, Cinderace, Physical Dragapult, Weakness Policy/SD Rhyperior, Toxicroak, and Gallade. Scald allows Quasire to fish for status on walls or physical threats to make counter play easier and to break the Substitutes of Hawlucha and not be PP stalled. Recover is needed for longevity. Toxic helps put defensive mons in range of Dracovish and helps win the long game versus fatter builds. If you can catch mons such as Hydreigon, Cinderace, or Chandelure you'll be in a really good position. Earthquake allows us to not lose to Disable DD Dragapult and gives us a real way to deal with Toxicroak.

IVs: 0 Atk

- Perish Song
- Rest

Kyurem getting Freeze Dry and Kyurem-Black being banned has really affected fat water teams. Specs Kyurem kinda of comes in and clicks buttons so team mates can clean up if Kyruem doesn't just flat out win. At the moment, Lapras is the only mon that prevents fat water teams from flat out losing to that mon because no way are they landing all 8 of their Focus Blasts. Apart from being my only answer to Kyurem, Lapras is one of the most important members of the team for the ability to trap Hatterene, Gardevior, Clefable, Ninetails-Alolan, Frosmoth, Kyurem, and Toxapex while being able to deal with all Hydreigon variants and give us /some/ chances of not auto losing to Poltgeist. Lapras completely demolishes the opposing water match up and acts as an emergency check to +1 Power Whip + Earthquake Gyarados.

Heavy-Duty Boots allow Lapras to actually utilize its bulk by removing its hazards weakness. 8 EVs in Spa guaratee that Freeze Dry lands a OHKO on Dracovish 100% of the time. 8 Speed allows you to creep and trap Modest/defensive max HP Primarina, and the rest of the EVs are dumped in special bulk because all the threats it needs to handle are specially based. Freeze Dry allows Lapras to offensively pressure Water and Dragon teams. Whirlpool and Perish Song are mandated moves to trap key mons. Even if Lapras has to switch out, Whirlpool provides great chip damage and prevents the opp from making hard doubles as we switch out. Rest + Hydration give Lapras the best recovery it has with Rain support and boots. Rest and proper rain positioning is absolutely needed to prevent you from sacking mons every time x threat comes in in certain MUs

holy moly (Seismitoad) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Knock Off

I was lacking hazards and felt like Lapras was way too easily pressured due to being reliant on rain, so I added specially defensive Seismitoad to help ease the pressure.

Stealth Rock helps punish offensive teams for pulling offensive doubles and helps fatter teams be more pressure by Dracovish. Rocks help keeps Chandelure and Kyurem at bay. Toxic turns mons such as Gardevoir, Hydreigon, Dragapult, and Mantine and turn them in to manageable threats. Earthquake allows Seismitoad to handle CM + Taunt Keldeo (if Focus Blast) or puts Keldeo in range of Pelipper (if Secret Sword) while also hitting Chandelure and Gengar. Knock Off provides utility against fatter teams by knocking off recovery items/boots and either helping in PP stalling their recovery or putting them out of the 3HKO range from Dracovish.

Threatlist
Auto lose mons, given the proper set:
1591933677854.png
-You can trade Dracovish for the Focus Sash then Perish Song with Lapras and sack Seismitoad to stall out the last Perish Song turn with Baneful Bunker and force it out, but next time it comes in it'll probably sweep due to Giga Drain.
1591933363135.png
-Specs 6 pretty much 6-0s on preview especially if paired with Hatterene and/or Gallade unless you play your Lapras flawlessly and don't get SpD hax. If it's dual Psychic coverage its automatic 6-0
1591933611355.png
- Life Orb with Psychic + Grass Knot coverage = 6-0
1591933638985.png
- Offensive Venusaur (sun grass) 6-0s basically at lead even without terrain.

Regular threat list:
1591933973739.png
-If running Grass Knot its a problem but Seismitoad can be traded for it. Every other set is walled by Quagsire bar critting.
1591933792832.png
-Scarf and Specs are fine because Toxapex can go in hard as a pivot and safely switch out to Lapras/Seismitoad depending on what was clicked.NP is a HUGE problem and if it ever crits Lapras, its probably GG unless its low enough for Quagsire to 1v1. If you pivot to Toxapex without knowing the set as Hydreigon subs, HARD into Lapras and then hard Perish Song, followed by Rest. Once at full, you now sack 1 mon and bring in Toxapex. You now know his set and Lapras can begin chipping away at it. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591933810195.png
-Literally same as above but easier to deal with because no flinches. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591933836710.png
-The only switch in is Lapras. You have to position rain properly to always keep Lapras healthy and get rocks up as quick as possible to punish every switch in. If you can manage to trap one locked into Draco you're in a fantastic spot as now Lapras can help put more with Hydreigon/Duraladon/Noivern, Frosmoth. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591933904390.png
-LO, CM, and TR sets are all huge problems. Dracovish can always threaten non TR sets but is difficult to position in on TR sets. LO 3 attacks sets are the easiest to deal with, just Knock it off with Seismitoad even if you have to trade due to Giga Drain coverage. You HAVE to trap CM + TR/LO sets or you WILL lose the game. Don't let it get out of hand, don't forget you'll still have to deal with Clefable or Gardevoir.
1591933929043.png
-This thing comes in on Toxapex for free whenever it wants to and traces the Regenerator. Since you want Lapras to trap Hatterene, you best shot at this is to PP stall it with Toxapex using Lapras. Additionally, you can keep Seismitoad healthy enough to 1v1 it. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591934377246.png
- Specs and Sub CM sets are the most problematic especially with any sort of Psychic and/or Grass coverage. A lot of these, even specs sets, are running 0 speed for some reason so Dracovish is faster and always OHKOs outside of rain. If its running speed (you can tell by damage calcs) trap it with Lapras.
1591934010671.png
-LO and CM sets are rare right now but really punch holes through you especially if carrying Thunderbolt. Trap any set with Lapras as soon as possible if your opp isn't sacking Clefable to Dracovish.
1591934426609.png
-If its NP, you auto lose. If it's defensive with U-turn, you'll probably lose especially if paired with Stall breaker Mew unless you play your Dracovish really well early on. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591934508169.png
-From the very beginning, make it your mission to PP stall this thing and you win. If you realize that this is your path to winning mid game then it is too late and Mew will have just enough PP to win the positioning the set provides it.
1591934170339.png
-This thing wants to be a threat but due to so many things that can take a hit + the positioning that the Poison MU gives us, I don't think it's super problematic as long as you are in control of the game. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591934238405.png
-If SD Mold Breaker, keep Quagsire healthy enough to live one +2 hit and revenge with Pelipper. Always Keep Pelipper alive with scarf Excadrill in the back as it can easily abuse Toxapex and can crit through quagsire as it counters. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591934313997.png
-Get rocks up as soon as possible. If Specs, PP stall with Toxapex + friends and trade it for Dracovish any time it gets a kill. For Sub CM, hard Perish Song as it CMs like with Hydreigon and begin chipping it down with Whirlpool any other time after you know the set. Never Knock Off a choice locked set.
1591933878919.png
-This is only really a problem since High Jump Kick can crit Quagsire and Zen Headbutt can crit and flinch Toxapex. If paired with Chandelure, this MU is always winnable bar extreme hax but never free. Don't mess around with it as a threat

While this team is incredibly fun to use, it does carry a lot of threats. If you're not used to using fat teams I would probably stay away from the team. Freeze Dry Kyurem has changed the fat water meta so I'm excited for the DLCs coming out to see how it will affect not just the meta but the bulkier builds as well. This team has been a blast to build and test. Hope the whole generation is just as fun!

Hey, pretty cool team! I have a few suggestions.

Major Changes

Quagsire -> Keldeo
195.png
->
647.png

You mention "proper check to Bisharp" as one of the reasons for using Quagsire, but Keldeo does this very reliably and is one of the best Pokemon Water teams have access to. It's capable of revenge killing Kyurem and you don't need to rely on hitting Focus Blast because Aura Sphere kills after Stealth Rock. Between Pelipper and the fact that Excadrill doesn't typically run Rock Slide anymore on Ground, you should be good in that area and not have to worry too much about the Ground match-up. Although Quagsire is pretty solid and can come in handy in certain situations I just feel like your team is way too bulky, especially when you have HO in the title, so I guess that must be a mistake? But yeah I think adding a few more breakers will do you good, and Keldeo makes a lot of match-ups easier such as Steel, Dark, Normal, and Ice.

Minor Changes

By running Choice Band on Dracovish you lack Speed control and like I mentioned above I think you could use more breakers to balance out your team because you already have defensive Pelipper, Toxapex, and Lapras, so I want to suggest offensive Swift Swim Seismitoad here. Under rain you outspeed the majority of the things you listed in that paragraph such as Chandelure, Gengar, Hydreigon, and Dragapult and either OHKO or do a solid amount of damage to them. You seem concerned about CM Keldeo but you should be fine against that because if it's SubCM then Toxapex stalls it out, and if it's Taunt+CM then Pelipper handles it because Keldeo can't use Substitute to stall out rain and make Hurricane inaccurate. By running an offensive Swift Swim variant you have a fast powerful wallbreaker to form a nice offensive core with Dracovish and Keldeo.

Dracovish

Pretty interesting idea running Rest/Talk, however I think it's highly unreliable on a Choice Band set because it relies on you using Rest, then switching out and back in to use Sleep Talk, and then needing to switch in and out again when you've burnt 2 turns of sleep. I think you'll be better off just running Outrage and Leech Life / Crunch as the last two moves. Your reasoning for not running those is understandable as Dracovish just spams Fishious Rend 90% of the time, but I think CB Outrage definitely has its moments where it can be useful and is overall more reliable.

Normally I would've suggested using Cloyster over Lapras because it does really well against Dragon and somewhat Ice if you can weaken Avalugg before setting up, but I thought it was pretty cool and unique so I decided to keep it. Anyways hope I helped and good luck with the team!

Hey, pretty cool team! I have a few suggestions.

Major Changes

Quagsire -> Keldeo

Hi, nice changes you made. As i stated up top, you cant really make minor changes without changing the integrity of the teams and how the changes affect current match ups.

Taking out Quagsire from the team will be too large a change for the team to be able to handle everything that it needs to. Quagsire doesn't just serve as a "proper Bisharp check," it serves protection against opposing CB Dracovish (Psychic Fang lock), Scarf Excadrill (on Steel), WP/SD Rhyperior, acts as a safety net for Scarf Jirachi, acts as an emergency check vs NP Gengar, and ensures that Hawlucha cannot win by critting. On top of this, you mention that the change to Keldeo will make Steel, Dark, Normal, and Ice easier when all these types, bar Heliolisk on Normal and a well play Darm on Ice, do not offer the team in the first place. Because it'll only improve already easy MUs, there's no need to take away from the integrity of the team to make easy MUs easier.

While the team may lack speed control (reason why it cant beat grass), the addition of offensive Seismitoad will not improve the team more than it hurts. Seismitoad is currently incredibly valuable in the Ghost-especially balance-, water-especially fat water and 100% needed to not lose to Water Absorb trapping Lapras-, Fairy, Psychic, and Dragon. The change to offensive Seismitoad will only help improve 2 match ups, while making all but one of the remaining MUs somewhat to noticeably worse and I disagree with these changes making CM + Taunt (which is the more common set) Keldeo easier to handle because based on my experience playing this build, it'll only make it more difficult.

You mention that CB Outrage is nice to have in certain situations, but for this team I can not think of any (but DO agree with Leech Life Dracovish, almost mentioned it too before deciding against it). I tested the team extensively with the standard CB set and not ONCE while using the team did I ever want to click Outrage when I didn't have it. If you could list situations where CB Dracovish on this team would like to click Outrage and how the loss of recovery in the Water, Poison, Ghost, and Electric match ups is off set by the "reliability" of standard band I would appreciate them because I cannot think of any

The things you mention you want Quagsire to be around to check you can already deal with; Toxapex can pivot in on any hit from Dracovish provided it's kept healthy enough, use Baneful Bunker to put it on a timer and then proceed to switch into your defensive Pelipper which takes CB Psychic Fangs pretty well. Defensive Pelipper also doesn't get 2HKOed by Scarf Excadrill's Rock Slide and you can also scout it with Toxapex's Baneful Bunker. You should be more worried about Specs Aegislash and Ferrothorn in the Steel match-up because the former 2HKOes everything except Lapras but can't be trapped by its Whirlpool, while Ferrothorn looks pretty annoying to break and can come in safely on SpD Seismitoad which can live one hit from Specs Aegi and click Earthquake. With SubCM Keldeo (which is more common than Taunt I'm pretty sure, unless you're referencing ladder which isn't an accurate representation of the metagame) you can break Aegislash+Ferrothorn pretty easily and Substitute can allow you to bring Aegislash to Blade form so you can KO it the next turn. Rhyperior isn't a problem at all for Water teams to deal with, and if you have Swift Swim Seismitoad you outspeed and OHKO Scarf Jirachi and NP Gengar (which isn't really common). None of the match-ups listed are easy because Steel has Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and Jirachi which are big threats, Ice has Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales (which comes in on Lapras and clicks Encore on Whirlpool), Normal has Specs Indeedee and Heliolisk, while the Dark match-up is definitely winnable without Keldeo but more difficult because you're pretty weak to Sub+NP Hydreigon because your only check is Lapras. Keldeo is great in all these match-ups and is overall one of the best Pokemon on Water while Quagisre is a more niche pick.

I'll agree that SpD Seismitoad is better in the Ghost match-up but I'd say Ghost still has the advantage because Seismitoad can only take so much damage before Specs Dragapult can just click Draco Meteor and Lapras can't trap anything in this match-up. If it's not Specs Dragapult then you still struggle switching into Specs Aegislash or Gengar because of Water's lack of Ghost resists. Whirlpool Lapras isn't a thing so it's not worth preparing for, while the Fairy, Psychic, and Dragon match-ups aren't really improved by SpD Seismitoad because of Alolan Ninetales, the occasional Giga Drain Hatterene, Celebi, and Kyurem, respectively.

You're right about Outrage not being clicked a lot because as I said Dracovish just clicks Fishious Rend nearly every time. It's not really that I think Outrage is super important coverage, it's more so that RestTalk is super unreliable on a Choice Band set and would only become optimal if you get hit with Knock Off because as I already said it's just too much messing around having to switch in and out to make use of RestTalk. You're never using Rest against Electric and Ghost because the only thing you Rest on against Ghost is Galarian Corsola and against Electric there's really nothing except maybe Pincurchin. Either way your opponent can easily take advantage once he sees you're Choice Band RestTalk and Dracovish doesn't play a key role in beating Electric anyway, you'd need Cloyster for this. As for the Water and Poison match-ups it doesn't really matter because Lapras should destroy opposing Water teams and is also capable of breaking Poison's defensive core because it can trap and get rid of both Toxapex and Vileplume because Giga Drain is a 4HKO.
