Combined with a solid Attack stat and great Speed, mixed with a STAB Knock Off and access to priority in the form of Ice Shard, Weavile has more than enough going for it to be viable within the OU metagame. Despite Weavile's strength, Weavile does face a lot of competition in the form of Crawdaunt, and its Ice / Dark typing leaves it vulnerable to common attacks and of course Stealth Rock. Nevertheless, Weavile has a few key factors to distinguish itself from the competition, and given the right support it can be a great asset to your team. Triple Axel is a new move introduced this generation that gives Weavile an incredibly strong Ice STAB attack. Assuming all three attacks hit, Triple Axel is essentially a base 120 power attack, allowing Weavile to OHKO study Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Mandibuzz, while 2HKOing Corviknight and Clefable. Knock Off is an incredibly useful move, and Weavile has one of the strongest Knock Offs in the entire game. Ice Shard is a form of priority, and is incredibly useful for picking off weakened threats such as Dragapult, Hydreigon, and Hawlucha. Lastly, Low Kick provides coverage, enabling Weavile to hit Ferrothorn, Crawdant, and Tyranitar for terrific damage. Swords Dance however is certainly an option if you're looking to sweep with Weavile, and can still function just as well as the Choice Band set, albeit less powerful. If Swords Dance is used, a Life Orb should be used instead of a Choice Band, though the immediate power that Choice Band provides makes it overall the better item.

Weavile is a great Pokemon, but its Ice / Dark typing does leave it vulnerable to key threats in the metagame. Fairy-types that resist Ice-type attacks, such as Azumarill and Primarina can switch into Weavile with relative ease, and can force Weavile out with super effective attacks. Gengar pairs well with Weavile because of this, threatening Fairy-types with its STAB Sludge Wave. Gengar also has the added benefit of being able to to switch into Fighting-type attacks, while Weavile helps deal with special walls such as Tyranitar and Blissey, while also checking Dragapult. Steel-types can such as Corviknight and Scizor can give Weavile trouble, as they can shrug off its attacks, and threaten Weavile out with Body Press or Bullet Punch respectively. This makes Electric-types such as Magnezone and Zeraora great teammates, as they can check both of these Pokemon very well, and bring in Weavile safely with Volt Switch, and in return Weavile can help against Ground and Grass-types, such as Hippowdon and Rillaboom. Weavile's Ice-typing leaves it vulnerable to Stealth Rock, so Excadrill makes for a great teammate. Not only does Excadrill provide support in the form of Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock, Excadrill is also a fantastic check to Fairy-types such as Clefable and and Hatterene, which can give Weavile trouble. Lastly, Aegislash can make for an excellent teammate, as the two share great synergy together, both in their typing, and their ability to eliminate each other's checks and counters.
