Whatever happened to freeze clause?

Just curious. The condition is more powerful than sleep, and while there are no reliable freeze-inducing moves it still really sucks if two of your Pokemon get frozen at the same time. I vaguely remember a time when freeze clause meant only one of your Pokemon could be frozen at a time, but it seems to have disappeared entirely, no idea why.

We can't enforce it in-game to any reasonable degree that would not result in the absurd consequence of banning Ice-type moves if they freeze once. That's why we don't enforce it on PO.

Great Sage

Banned deucer.
In addition to what Tortferngatr said, Freeze Clause is entirely a relic of RBY, where freezing was permanent unless the frozen Pokemon was hit by a Fire attack or Haze was used. Furthermore, it is so infrequently applicable, since there are no reliable freezing moves, that it is almost always a useless rule. If you're unfortunate enough to get multiple Pokemon frozen, "tough"; you play Pokemon.
