What're Their Lasts?
Back in generations 1-4, team preview did not exist, and as such it was vital to be able to discern what the opponents remaining Pokemon were. Even though we are now blessed with team preview, the ability to work out which Pokemon would be the best choice for the last teamslot(s) is a vital question during the teambuilding process.

In this project, every week the hosts will post a team that a player has built, but with two of the Pokemon missing. It is your goal to suggest which Pokemon would fit best in these last slots. There will be two stages each week, a nominations stage, where you will be able to submit your suggestion, and a voting phase. The person who recieves the most votes will win the week, and be added to our hall of fame, along with their submission!

At the end of each week, we will also reveal what the original Pokemon were. Even if you did not guess these Pokemon however, this does not mean your choice was wrong. Teams may have multiple paths to fill their weaknesses, and you may have found an even better option than the original builder.

Hopefully this project will help any aspiring builders improve their teambuilding skills! If you would like to submit a team to be used in an upcoming week, please PM Estarossa on Smogon or Discord (
Saria#4720), providing us with an import, and a short building process for your team! We can't promise your team will be featured, but it is worth trying!

Rules

  • Please only post viable Pokemon in the UU metagame. In general one can refer to the Viability Rankings thread to get a general idea of this.
  • Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis if enough evidence is provided to support why your nomination is a viable choice, eg. overlooked Pokemon you believe to have a niche. Replays and calcs are highly advised in this scenario, on top of a detailed explanation.
  • For any other nomination, a small paragraph will suffice for a nomination. You may choose to add calcs and replays too to strengthen your arguement if you like however. One-liners should be avoided.
  • Do not post unviable sets. Alternative coverage options or items may be permitted if within reason, however they should not negatively affect a Pokemon in terms of other matchups greatly.
  • You may submit the same Pokemon as someone else, provided at least one of the sets are different. For instance, if someone has already submitted Competitive Milotic + offensive Toxic Spikes Weezing-Galar, you may still submit offensive Competitive Milotic + Spikes Roserade.
  • NO slashing is permitted. You may not have 5 moves, 2 abilities, 2 items etc. in a match, the same should be true here.
  • Reservations are permitted provided the post is complete within 24 hours. After this time limit, anyone may take your reservation freely. Please post your sets when posting a reservation, eg. Acid Armor Reuniclus.
  • Each person may only submit once per round.
  • When choosing a Pokemon and set, try to analyse what the team is weak to or is unable to break before submitting. Don't just submit a random Pokemon for the sake of it.
  • You may not change any of the provided sets on the other 4 Pokemon in order to better fit a submission. You should instead submit based upon the given sets.
  • During the voting phase you may only vote for one person unless otherwise instructed. You may not vote for yourself.

:swsh/weezing-galar:

Weezing-Galar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Sludge Bomb
- Strange Steam
- Fire Blast

The current team lacks any form of hazard control. Furthermore, the team currently lacks a sturdy Fighting-resist. Weezing-Galar is a perfect choice here, being able to offer a Fighting-resist for the <insert Pokemon>. Due to the team not having good switch ins to Escavalier, an offensive set fits better with Fire Blast to punish these switch ins. Furthermore, offensive Weezing-Galar can switch into Umbreon for <insert Pokemon>, and <insert Pokemon> greatly appreciates the Sludge Bomb Poison's it spreads against switch ins such as Milotic.

Current Team (Week 2)

:ss/inteleon: :ss/incineroar: :ss/mamoswine: :ss/noivern: :ss/cobalion:

"With the general drop in bulky Water-types as a result of Incineroar/Bronzong/Noivern/Mamoswine cores being everywhere, I decided I wanted to build around Inteleon since it has a great matchup vs those types of teams; Noivern being the primary Water-resist makes it quite difficult for them to switch into its Hydro Pumps. Incineroaar felt like a natural fit since it can abit in and Knock Off a lot of INteleon's better answers like Mantine, Vaporeon, and Noivern, and also U-turn out into Mamoswine, which could better pressure them. The progress pig was put on the team because there's literally 0 reason not to, it has no switch ins and provides good utility with Knock Off and Ice Shard. I needed a Ground immunity next along with a Defogger and a check to the otherwise nightmarish Golisopod. Noivern fit all the boxes so i went with that. Cobalion was added to the team as my own offensive Mamoswine check that could switch into it at least once and also set up Stealth Rock, as well as pressuring fat with Swords Dance. What's my Last?"

To kick off the first week of this generations What's Their Last, we have a team provided by myself!

:ss/escavalier: :ss/aromatisse: :ss/incineroar: :ss/noivern: :ss/mamoswine:

"I wanted to build this team around the core of Escavalier + Aromatisse, as it's a core that's super strrong against Haxorus, while Aromatisse is able to provide full cleric support to Escavalier to allow it to better check dangerous threats like Celebi, physical Necrozma, and Gardevoir. Incineroar was a great addition to this pairing, providing a strong switch in to Pokemon such as Chandelure and Ninetales, pivoting, and a very reliable check to Doublade for Aromatisse. Noivern provided hazard control, an offensive check to Pokemon such as Cobalion, and pivoting to bring Escavalier in on Pokemon like Gigalith. Mamoswine as the Stealth Rocker helped to provide some additional speed control and an offensive check to Haxorus should the defensive core be sufficiently pressured, and some extra breaking power. What's my Last?"

Escavalier @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Atk / 112 Def / 84 SpD / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover

This team hates Cobalion a lot, mono Hurricane Noivern being the response. This team also can't break bulky Water-types that well outside of Escav having to click SD. Even then that loses to Mantine. Jellicent solves these issues thanks to its typing, Water Absorb, and Taunt. Pretty self-explanatory what it does with spreading burns and clicking Hex vs them. It has Heal Bell support so it doesn't have to worry about Toxic too much and Incineroar helps punish them for it too. This team also hates Toxtricity, having a Boomburst immunity at least gives some leeway against it, though the matchup is still pretty ass outside of prediction.

The main issue I noticed with this team on first glance was Milotic, as it can quite happily sit in against and slowly choke out the entire team if played carefully. An extra way to pressure Galarian Weezing trying to spread status seemed quite useful as well. Celebi can do both of these things while shrugging off status thanks to Natural Cure, and provides the team with another setup win condition. Its weakness to foes like Scarf Chandelure is covered well by Incineroar, and it can set up on the Water-types that may try to switch in on both the team's pivots. Celebi can also take boosted hits from Cobalion in a pinch to either pick it off or put it in range of Noivern.

The biggest problem with this team is that it lacks a consistent Poison / Umbreon check, as well as speed control as a whole. Not only does this set check dangerous defensive threats such as the menacing Weezing-Galar and Umbreon that the team has trouble with using its great dual STABs, but it also is phenomenal speed control that is able to check offensive threats and cripple defensive ones thanks to Will-O-Wisp and Trick respectively. Trick and Will-O-Wisp are useful as mid-ground plays that can beat defensive switch-ins and incapacitate such things as Mamoswine, DD Necrozma, Cobalion, or Pangoro respectively. Alternatively, though, Mystical Fire can be used to more effectively check Steel switch-ins such as Doublade or opposing Escavalier. On top of this, Gardevoir's great dual STABs and great base 125 Special Attack also allow for it to be an active win-con.

Alongside Incineroar's Parting Shot to create a safer switch-in, Trace makes for a great defensive countermeasure that this team highly appreciates. Trace is a consistently effective, anti-BS ability that allows for it to more safely switch into Mamoswine, Chandelure, and Centiskorch, and check Sun Spam. The overall utility that Trace provides for the team is extremely valuable when you consider how prone it is to these offensive threats as well.

Congratulations to Twilight for winning Week 1 with his Jellicent submission! This was the original Pokemon on the team, as stated for its ability to help check Cobalion and Lucario, while helping to break through bulky waters with taunt and escavalier's Knock support, and offer a normal immunity to make Specs Toxtricity have to predict more with its moves in combination with Mamoswine, however I was running a Scald set to punish Incineroar switch ins and give less opportunities for Chandelure to come in.

Overall Heliolisk really helps this team for a lot of reasons. Not only does it form a great volt turn core with Inteleon, but it also can help beat the bulky waters Inteleon itself struggles with. The last move could be a lot of things but I chose protect to help not only against first impression pokemon such as golisopod, but it also scouts out potential choiced pokemon allowing for more accurate playing and reacting to different situations. Overall it just fits a lot of criteria this team needed help with, and thats why I believe this is the last choice,

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot

- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Earth Power

Since this team is kinda weak to strong water-types and has no real way of breaking down the likes of milotic, vaporeon and other stronger waters like jellicent
i've decided to go with celebi here as it can support the rest of the team with this role.
celebi can come in on most water uneffected by a scald-burn since it has the ability to heal it off when it gets withdrawn.
celebi has also the necessary power to break thorugh bulky waters with he likes of nasty plot and being able to heal health back with giga drain simultaniously.

celebi has also the necessary secondary stab to break past offensive threats such as virizion, cobalion, and it is able to lure in chandelure and incineroar with earth power,
which the team would really appreciate. celebi also functions as not only a water-type check but also as a fighting-type check which this team would like to have since only
noivern can do that job here and inteleon is really fragile on both defensive sides and cannot come in on strong water-attacks multiple times.

i think in general celebi fits here very well with the help of u-turn provided by inteleon and incineroar and the chances to come in
to set-up on the many bulky waters which are in the uu-tier right now.

Congratulations to DraconicLepus for winning week 2 with Heliolisk! As Lilburr has mentioned, this was again the original Pokemon on the team. This week's team is provided by me again,

Week 3

:ss/ninetales: :ss/venusaur: :ss/gigalith: :ss/noivern: :ss/incineroar:

"This Sun team was designed with the idea of using SD Bulky Incineroar, a Sun breaker that can offer fantastic pivot support to Venusaur, and also provide lots of defensive utility by helping to check Pokemon like Chandelure that can take advantage of Sun, and Gardevoir which can trace Venusaur's Chlorophyll. A more support based Ninetales set can try to get Sun up on a switch into Gigalith with Sunny Day, sleep annoying Pokemon liike opposing Incineroar and Ninetales, and provide easier set up opportunities for Venusaur with Memento. Gigalith provided a way of controlling your own weather, and checking Chandelure and Noivern, while Air Slash Noivern provided a check to Araquanid and Golisopod that the team may otherwise find annoying, a pivot that could get venusaur in on bulky waters and gigalith, and Defog as an emergency incase of hazard stack. What's My Last?"

reserving golisopod :)

:ss/golisopod:
Golisopod @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Emergency Exit
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Spe
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Liquidation
- Leech Life
- Knock Off

This team, in its current state, has an abyssmal Mamoswine matchup- 3/5 Pokemon are weak to Earthquake, and the other two are weak to Icicle Crash / Ice Shard. The only mon on the team faster than Mamoswine that can handle Ice Shard is Ninetales, which needs to be kept around for the team to function correctly, gets heavily worn down by hazards, and can't switch in regardless. The team also struggles with Speed-boosting sweepers unless sun is kept around and active, which isn't always a reliable enough measure. Golisopod may have Liquidation weakened by sun, but its defensive presence is absolutely invaluable as the best Mamoswine answer available. It also provides the team with strong priority, giving a more consistent response to threats such as Haxorus, and acts as an extra safety measure against Scarf Flygon. To top everything off Emergency Exit has genuine utility on sun, potentially giving Venusaur the safe switchin it needs to sweep. Overall, Golisopod is a great fit.

team hates mamo and has no dragon resist. cb hax=sack. not much can fix this but i've got something, at least, in Cobalion, which'll make haxorus not just click outrage every time it comes in for free while also checking mamoswine.
