NOC WikiMafia 2 Game Thread [Day 3]

rewording because I can only answer hypotheticals so it's ofc not player-specific

in answer to the question (according to Tommy's claim):

in a scenario where a neighbouriser who can usually only recruit two people, through some means, is made to target player a separately but players b and c in tandem based on other roles, and he can only have a maximum of two other players in his neighbor chat, how do you resolve who gets added to the chat?

The answer is all three players would be added to the chat. Simultaneous resolution means there's no way to determine who should be added over anyone else under normal conditions.
yeah something doesn't add up, I still feel there's mafia interference and I don't like how this wasn't talked about, especially by players who like to talk mech.

bluedoom died

Dear bluedoom,

You are Tariff.

I’ve actually never read such a derogatory Wikipedia article in my life, this is so funny. Wikipedia is of course correct that tariffs are terrible for the economy, but that’s not why they’re a thing. Tariffs are a social policy designed to control people into participating in behaviours that are altogether harmful to themselves but good for the state. Like a sin tax, where the sin is not being nationalistic enough, and as with any sin tax this will on paper shift the social attitudes of the nation against the sin in question. The more expensive something is, the less that the poor masses are able to interface with it. Eventually people will decide their own nation’s industry is “just better” with no greater critical thought required, and enjoy their doomspiral into poverty with a renewed vigour arisen by their shared suffering. That’s the hope, anyway, and historically has both worked and failed to significant degrees.

[Passive 1: Public Opinion]

It’s difficult for a capitalist state, particularly a nationalistic one. Convincing people you’re helping them is much harder when you’re not helping them. It doesn’t seem to stop you from trying, you’re just gonna have to invest extra time and resources into getting people on-side. Fortunately, whenever you get a convert, they tend to do some of the rest of the work for you, getting others to buy into their stupidity. Or I guess when enough people buy into it it stops being stupidity and becomes “common sense”.

You begin the game with one charge of Active 1: Propagandise. After its first use it will permanently lock, only unlocking should no remaining alive players be propagandised. The most recently propagandised player will be the carrier of any uses of Active 2: This Is Cool This Seems Like A Great Idea, as they are happy to lend themselves to your cause. You will receive the name of the most recently propagandised player, and therefore the carrier of the ability, at the beginning of each night. If a player has been propagandised for the second time this game they are subsumed deeper into your ideology, and instead will have to carry Active 3: Civic Enforcement. Whenever someone is propagandised for a third time or more, you will be forced to use Active 4: Total Devotion. You giving the order to whoever the most recently propagandised player is doesn’t count as an action, and so therefore any role interactions affecting one of your Active abilities would need to target the propagandised player and not yourself for it to have an effect.

[Active 1: Propagandise]

Propaganda is biased, ideological media intended to influence or persuade people towards furthering a pre-determined agenda. For example, Smogon is a propaganda machine for Pokémon, convincing hundreds of thousands of people that it’s not actually an easy baby kid’s game for kids. Once someone has been subjected to enough propaganda that their views actually change, you might describe them as propagandised, and therefore willing to act on behalf of the agenda they’ve been propagandised into.

At night, you may target a player with “Night X - Pay Millions to Tech Companies to Feed Your Content to [PLAYER1]”. PLAYER1 will love your content, receiving one more level of being propagandised, and excited to both act on your behalf, and spread the gospel further. Propagandised players will not be informed that they are propagandised, but will receive a message the day after they have been propagandised that reads “You also must target a(n additional) player today, for reasons you do not know. Target them with “Night X - idfk [PLAYER1]” If you do not target a player today your target will be determined randomly.”. While they do not know what it does, the effect of this action is the same as Active 1: Propagandise, and PLAYER1 will receive one more level of being propagandised. They may target you with this, and if you are propagandised the usual rules of your role applies.

[Active 2: This Is Cool This Seems Like A Great Idea]

Who likes carrots? No? OK fine it’s 2025, it’s a fake carrot made of gelatine and sugar that tastes like diabetes. Ayy, now you’re on board, this nation’s awesome ain’t it? As with any ideology, on the surface level it seems like a really good idea to participate in this project. So this ability’s pretty nifty, actually. It’s healthcare! People love healthcare! Let’s hope people only engage with your ideology this far.

At night, you may target a player with “Night X - Give Healthcare To [PLAYER1]”. The most recently propagandised player will target PLAYER1, protecting PLAYER1 from any abilities that would result in their death that night, with the SUPERIOR, HIGH QUALITY medicine of, y’know, your nation. Not any of that foreign shit, which is obviously worse. Obviously.

[Active 3: Civic Enforcement]

[LOCKED]. This ability will unlock should your most recent propgandised player be on propagandisation level 2.

[Active 4: Total Devotion]

[LOCKED]. This ability will unlock should your most recent propagandised player be on propagandisation level 3 or above.

You are Mafia. You win if there are the same number of mafia remaining as town, or more.

This is how bluedoom's role looked when he died. However, his locked abilities were:

[Active 3: Civic Enforcement]

After enough influence into a certain ideology, people sometimes become willing to do things they wouldn’t usually do if they decide it’s “for the greater good”. At only stage 2 of propagandisation they’re usually not gonna run into the streets acting as a militia, but becoming a mouthpiece for some social pressure? Sure, especially now that you can do it from your sofa. Cancelling someone for having the wrong opinion isn’t civic enforcement of your ideology because you’re right, y’know? You’re just correcting them. Thank you, internet.

At night, you may target a player with “Night X - Make A Video Essay About [PLAYER1]”. The most recently propagandised player will create a video essay about PLAYER1, and after some financial backing from yourself, and using your contacts to get the mainstream press to write news stories about the scandal, it will go viral. This will result in PLAYER1 both being unable to be targeted with any actions including kills, but also unable to target anyone with their own actions tonight, as their reputation means no one wants to be associated with them.

[Active 4: Total Devotion]

The propaganda’s cutting deep now. The echo chamber’s established, and in our 24/7 information society that means round the clock pummelling of the same opinions, same take, same enemies and friends as yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. Dissent isn’t dissent anymore -- it’s wrong, morally, logically, philosophically… exactly what you want.

At night, you must use “Night X -- Homogenise; Assimilate”. Your target is the most recently propagandised player. Your target will target themselves with this ability. Their Passive 1 ability will lock, and with it any role restrictions held within that Passive 1. What this means for each role varies, and may make them stronger, weaker, or not have much impact at all. You will not be informed what your use of Active 4: Total Devotion does to the player in question. The player will be informed of the effects and that their Passive 1 ability is locked, but will not be informed why this has happened to them.

For Role PMs whose abilities unlock and lock, this is the format I will flip them in. There is a type of lock or unlock where I will not do this, which I will point out when that happens.

Night 2 begins now and ends in 24 hours, 24 minutes

Day 3 Start

realiti
died last night

Dear realiti,

You are the 2025 World Series.

Baseball, huh? It’s not something I know all that much about, since over here in England our bat and ball game is cricket. Cricket isn’t better than baseball, in fact it’s much worse, but I was pretty good at bowling (pitching) in it when I was in school. With my abject lack of background knowledge on baseball and any of the teams involved in specifically the 2025 World Series, and the time pressure of getting this game out, unfortunately you’re just kinda getting a baseball role. Sorry king.

[Passive 1: 3 Strikes]

Famously, in baseball, “3 strikes and you’re out”. Yeahhh that’s what we’re going with.

In order for your abilities to do anything, you have to target them 3 times with it. Because, y’know, then you’ll get them out. The targeting doesn’t need to be consecutive. If your target targets you the night you target them with an ability, they will not rack up a strike, which will read to you as your ability failing. If your ability fails for any other reason, they also won’t rack up a strike.

[Active 1: Team Sport]

Baseball is a team sport. So is mafia. From this, an ability can arise.

At night you may target another player with “Look at [PLAYER1]’s Jersey”. You will check which team PLAYER1 is on. By doing this, you will ascertain PLAYER1’s alignment.

[Active 2: Yerrrrrrout]

The gameplay of baseball is that one team does stuff, and the other team gets them out if they do the stuff wrong. This is mafia, so getting “out” means dying. You’re a vig good job.

At night you may target another player with “Strikeout [PLAYER1]”. You will throw the ball so good they don’t hit it, or throw it to one of your teammates before they reach the base, or something. PLAYER1 will die.

You are Town. You win when all mafia are dead.

Day 3 starts now and will last 47 hours 40 mins (an extra 10 mins compared to yesterday!)
