(WIP) Landorus-T

[OVERVIEW]
  • Landorus-T is a fantastic pick in the metagame thanks to its incredible offensive and defensive utility.
  • Its typing, bulk, and ability of Intimidate make it a good check and pivot into offensive Pokemon like Excadrill, Terrakion, Tyranitar, Breloom, Magnezone, and Garchomp.
  • This capability as a pivot is furthered by Landorus-T being immune to sand, meaning it isn't being worn down constantly when it's up and makes it heal with Leftovers. It's access to U-Turn is also a great boon as well, letting it keep momentum for its team.
  • These defensive qualities make Landorus-T a fantastic Stealth Rock setter.
  • Thanks to its previously mentioned defensive qualities as well as its great offenses also make Landorus-T one of the best and most splashable Choice Scarf users in the tier.
  • Landorus-T can even run a fully dedicated offensive set with Fighting Gem that gives up some defensive utility for posing an immense offensive threat.
  • However, Landorus-T is slower than some big metagame threats like Keldeo, Latios, Starmie, and Thundurus-T. These Pokemon are able to offensively check it and can usually pivot into at least one that Landorus-T commonly runs, depending on the set.
  • Landorus-T has a tendency to get worn throughout the game thanks to Stealth Rock and being used to switch into quite a few Pokemon. This issue is even more true for sets lacking Leftovers, meaning its health needs to be managed throughout the game.
  • Additionally, it receives competition as a defensive Ground-type from Gliscor, who has much better longevity thanks to Poison Heal, has a better supportive movepool, doesn't have to worry about status, and checks largely the same pool of Pokemon. However, Landorus-T is able to keep momentum for its team and as such fits better on bulky offensive teams. It also can set Stealth Rock, giving it more role compression.
  • As an offensive Ground-type, Excadrill and Garchomp also give Landorus-T competition thanks to the former's access to Rapid Spin and the latter's higher speed. However, Landorus-T is stronger than both of them and has more defensive utility.

This spread outruns all variants of Breloom and neutral nature Politoed while taking hits from physical attackers like Terrakion, Excadrill, and Breloom well. Leftovers is chosen so Landorus-T can check said attackers and set Stealth Rock throughout the game while mitigating the chip damage from Stealth Rock. A Lax nature is chosen to make Hidden Power Ice still threaten Gliscor, Garchomp, Dragonite, and opposing Landorus-T while making this set still act as the check to physically offensive Pokemon that it should be. An alternative spread of 240 HP / 16 Def / 252 Spe with a Naive nature can be run to outspeed Excadrill, opposing defensive Landorus-T, Modest Thundurus-T, and Substitute + Dragon Dance Dragonite. However, this spread reduces physical bulk drastically and makes it more liable to be overwhelmed by the Pokemon it's meant to switch into, mainly Terrakion and especially Excadrill.

Fighting Gem gives Superpower a big boost in strength, letting it greatly threaten standard switch-ins like Skarmory, Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, and defensive Politoed. Naive is the preferred nature to outrun common threats like Jolly Excadrill, Kyurem-B, Dragonite, neutral nature Thundurus-T, and opposing neutral natured Landorus-T. Naughty can be opted for if the previously mentioned Pokemon aren't an issue and more power is desired, notably making it easier to KO Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Rotom-W, defensive Politoed, and specially defensive Skarmory with Fighting Gem-boosted Superpower.

=============

List some options for the Pokemon user that are plausible but not always recommended due to either being not consistent enough or too outclassed by other Pokemon in the metagame.
