I’ve been pretty heavily involved in the ORG (Online Reality Game) community for many years. ORGs are where people take existing reality tv competitions like Survivor or Big Brother and play them online through Discord. Competing players would be limited to seeing just the channels for their confessional channels, tribe chat, and alliance chats. Typically they’ll have 24 hours to complete an immunity challenge, and then another 24 hours to vote somebody out of the game. Games typically last 2-4 weeks with 16-24 players.
I’ve been watching a lot of competitive Pokemon videos and it gave me an idea for combining Pokemon battles with a Survivor ORG. Every cycle the challenge would be some kind of Pokemon battles between the players. One player would be automatically eliminated based on performance, and then one player would be voted out by their fellow players.
Additionally players would have to use the same Pokemon throughout the tournament, with a level cap that would increase each cycle.
So at the start of the game each player would select 6 Pokemon with the following constraints
Trade evolutions would only be allowed by trading with another player on the season. You can transfer Pokemon to other games and back to get evolutions locked there. So for example if you had a Scyther on your team you’d only be allowed to evolve it to a Scizor by trading with another player, but you would be allowed to transfer it to LA to evolve it into Kleavor.
Additional constraints would change each season. For example, 18 players with each player assigned a type. Or starting with a Grass, Water, and Fire tribe and each player only starts with a starter Pokemon of that type.
An example of how a season might go
F18
F8
The finale would be tricky deciding whether the jury of eliminated players votes for the winner or if it’s determined by Pokémon battle. Could mix it up over multiple seasons.
I think that a season like this would be feasible. I think that the tough part would be logging battles. I think I’d probably ask players to just film a video of their TV/Switch and upload it. Although I’m hoping that when Pokemon Champions drops they’ll have some sort of feature to post a recording of your battles.
So overall, what do you think? Does this sound like something that would be fun to Pokemon players? Are there any glaring errors that pop out?

- Only Pokemon that are the first stage of a two or three stage line
- No Pokemon that were at one point fully evolved (ie. No Scyther or Girafarig)
- Level 10 or Under
- Must all have the same OT
- No legendaries

- 3 tribes of 6
- Level Cap: 10
- Challenge: Each player is matched up against one player from both opposing tribes in a 3v3 single battle
- The individual player with the worst record (determined by amount of Pokemon defeated and remaining health left) is automatically eliminated
- The tribe with the worst overall record must vote one player out
- 4 tribes of 4
- Level Cap: 15
- Players can add one additional Pokemon to their roster
- Players can make one trade with a player on their tribe
- Second stage of 3 stage lines are now allowed. Single stage Pokémon are now allowed
- Challenge: A 16 person losers bracket, with one player from each tribe in each leg. 4v4 doubles, losers move on in the bracket
- At the final 2 of the tournament the winners tribe goes to tribal to vote somebody out while the loser is automatically eliminated
- 4 tribes of 4 (minus the 2 eliminated)
- Level Cap: 20
- Players can add one additional Pokemon to their roster
- Players can make one trade with a player on their tribe
- 2nd stage of 2 stage lines now allowed
- Challenge: Players must have a 6v6 multi-battle with a duo from each other tribe.
- Worst overall tribe must go to tribal council
- Worst overall duo must have a 1v1 battle to determine who is eliminated
F8
- All Pokémon legal by now
- Level Cap: 50
- 8 player bracket 4v4 doubles
- Winners of first round go on to winners bracket, winning individual immunity
- Losers of first round go on to losers bracket, loser is automatically eliminated
- Then the remaining 7 players must vote somebody out other than the player individually immune
The finale would be tricky deciding whether the jury of eliminated players votes for the winner or if it’s determined by Pokémon battle. Could mix it up over multiple seasons.
