Scheduling
  • Scheduling should be done on Smogon VM walls, plain and simple.
  • If there is no communication on VM walls and a game goes undone, the game will be declared a dead game.
  • If there is communication on only one user's behalf, the win will go to them. Feel free to call activity in this thread beforehand.
  • If there is a very healthy back and forth regarding potential times and one user is a no-show, a captain may take the opportunity to sub out the no-show competitor; if this is not done, the user that showed up responsibly will be awarded the win.
TL;DR: VM your opponents, schedule your matches, and be reliable. If you're not reliable, let your captain know so they can sub you out ASAP.

Use these VMs to initiate discussion about bo1 or bo3 as well!

Sportsmanship
Exhibitions of unsportsmanlike conduct with regards to World Cup of Other Metas V will be met with an infraction at the discretion of the WCoOM V hosts and OM mod team. This is unlikely to include interactions within a team's private chat unless there is reason found to make an exception.
  • Inappropriate nicknames: Games in which a player uses nicknames that break PS! rules will be forfeited, and the player will be removed from the tour. Replays are required for this tour, so it is important that PS! and Smogon rules are followed in these games.
  • Matching usernames: Players must play on usernames matching or close to matching their smogon names. If this criterion is not met, the match will not count.
  • Toxic Behavior: Insulting, flaming, and intentional timer stalling are some examples of toxic behavior. Instances of toxic behavior will be reviewed, and the appropriate punishment will be handed out at the discretion of the hosts and OM forum moderators.
These rules are meant to protect other users from being publicly flamed/bashed/provoked by another competitor for the duration of and following the tournament, as well as keep it a safe site for all.

All players must complete their matches by the given deadline. Any incomplete matches by that time may be subject to activity decision (MAKE SURE YOU POST ON YOUR OPPONENT'S VM WALL); otherwise, they will be declared a dead game. All matches should be done on your most notable alt (the one you registered for WCoOM V with) to avoid confusion, and the replay must be saved and posted in this thread. The replays will be archived in a separate thread and will be used to calculate usage stats.

Substitutions
Captains, if you wish to make any substitutions, you must post here tagging both the player you're subbing out, the player you're subbing in, the captains of the opposing team, the substitute's opponent(s), and myself. This is to assure that everyone is in-the-loop and that the OP is updated accordingly to reflect the new match-up.

First week, Jordy got a close win against lepton and Chloe had a tough starting against Ho3nn. This week both teams present some innovations compared to more standard builds. Jordy brings a balance with Machoke and Morgrem while Chloe brings Ferroseed and Gastly. From preview, Morgrem seems to have a really good MU as nothing switches in against it quite easily although really needs 1 turn to set up. Machoke can also bait gCorsola and Knock it Off while scaring the rest of teammates. On the other hand, Gastly can be scary but both Vullaby and Roselia can stop it depending on the set (is it running some coverage for Vullaby?). Ferroseed can be annoying bringing Spikes and Knock Off to open the path for Gastly and Thwakcey once worns down Vullaby or Roselia. Both have their ways and I see it quite even and it will depend from the first turns of the game.

Match starts quite normal until t7 where Morgrem comes into the field and NP against gCorsola. From this point, Morgrem is able to claim a faint against this Pokémon already. t12 Thwackey reveals to be HDB which is something unexpected and can surprise anyone as normally run Eviolite or even nothing for boosting Acrobatics. This will be important for late game. Meanwhile, Morgrem goes out to let Roselia check Thwackey. We have then a transition between Roselia and Vullaby and then Thwackey goes to Chloe's Vullaby. Here there is an interesting set reveal as Chloe's Vullaby is Substitute in order to help against cores like Roselia/Thwackey/Vullaby. t20 Jordy tries to move on from this lines and go to Ebuzz in order to pressure Vullaby. Knock Off reveals that is itemless Ebuzz, which then uses Thief against Piloswine in t22. t27 Machoke reveals to be defensive No Guard Dynamic Punch as a wall that is able to lure, and Chloe does a predict this same turn while putting some pressure to Jordy, weakening Piloswine with it (although some turns later both Piloswine and Ferroseed go down). Endgame starts while sacking some Pokémon for both parts (both Vullabys and Machoke) until t37 in which Ebuzz is able to faint Piloswine. In t39 Jordy sacks Morgrem in front of Gastly, I suppose to avoid some Trick issues and bc Morgrem is slower than both Pokémon and with this Jordy lets Ebuzz to come into the field, Volt Switching in front of the opponent's Thwackey. And, finally, t41 is an important turn as Thwackey goes out and Roselia sets up a layer of Spikes which cannot do anything bc Thwackey is HDB (super uncommon) and Gastly has Levitate. This with the following critical hit from Gastly to Roselia closes a close game in which this endgame mattered as Jordy was initially in a winning position but crit + Spikes turns put the game upside down.

This match is a highlight. Ho3n came from winning last week and lepton lost while showing a good performance overall both last week and in NFEPL as a manager/player (second spot). Ho3n brought a fat team with another Gastly, Mareanie as a Tortle + Raboot check, and Gabite to check Ebuzz as there are three Pokémon weak to Electryc-type attacks. SS Tortle can be a bit scary but we do not know from preview if it is tank Tortle. Still, Ebuzz can be dangerous as no Ground-type from lepton, and for sure Gastly can be super annoying and the most dangerous one as Vullaby can be worn down and then it can sweep if played correctly against Thwackey. Lepton brings a similar team in terms of fat with Tortle although can be checked by Mareanie and Thwackey who can be quite dangerous as the only check is Vullaby. Clefairy, if it is CM, then can be scary as Mareanie will need to Haze both Tortle and Clefairy. I think from preview Ho3n is in a better position but if lepton plays well their cards, they have a chance to win.

Lepton leads with one of their main win conditions Thwackey to just quickly click Knock Off. Well started. After some turns, Clefairy Tricks Gastly and reveals is Eviolite just before WoW Vullaby who came in Clefairy position. This Gastly set, when Vullaby is burnt, can stall it down. Lepton's Tortle reveals to be SS and puts some pressure after avoiding a WoW. But Ho3n Subs again while lepton does an unaccuracy and goes to Thwackey, putting them in a position to come back to Tortle and giving Gastly a second chance to burn it (which does). Hex in this position takes 40% of damage and is huge for now. After some turns in which Mareanie comes to stop Tortle and lepton is able to set up rocks, Gastly is in the field again making some pressuring lines to Vullaby with Subsitute, Hex, and Pain Split before letting Ebuzz coming into the field. After this, some standard lines and Gabite tries to set up rocks but Hattrem does not allow them. Clefairy tries to CM but Mareanie hazes it down. Some repeating lines and t39 Ho3n is able to burn Clefairy which can be important for a future Hex. Lepton's Tortle is able to beat Ho3n's Tortle bc it is in range of Torrent after SS (t48). Maybe here the play should have been SS again and do a Surf and not two of them as then +2 Surf is not able to beat Mareanie but +4 should have done it. However, tough decision bc Tortle was burnt and Rapid Spin could have done higher damage. Once in this position, lepton has a huge advantage with Thwackey and Ho3n has its own Vullaby worn down and Gastly gone. Lepton finally finishes the game cleaning it with +2 Thwackey.

Two NFE promising players for this tour are awaiting here. Elfuseon brings some balance with Machoke and Lampent as breaking points. Just in preview, Machoke can be helpful but Lampent really has no switching so... yeah, this is gonna be tough for Kabila if Elfuseon is able to put Lampent in the field. On the other hand, Kabila will depend on their Tortle as, if it is SS tortle, there are no switch-ins in Elfuseon's team. So, Lampent vs Tortle, be it.

t4 CSpecs Lampent goes in and hits like a truck to Thwackey. t8 again and what is important to note is that Kabila is setting up rocks and Spikes to not allow Lampent to come into the field as much as they want to. One turn later, Elfuseon picks Thwackey with Lampent. Taunt t14 from Ebuzz was a good moment and puts gCorsola in a very bad position. After this, Elfu reads Kabila's Ebuzz and Pilo can claim a faint against Roselia. t17 SS Tortle is revealed and slightly lives a HHP from Pilo. Moment to sweep as it is in Torrent range and destroy Machoke who was also damaged bc of Stealth Rock and Spikes.

Fraise, as a promising NFE player, is against Somalia who we all knwo to play properly anything you throw at them. Somalia is using some uncommon picks both weeks (first week was quite more crazy than this week though). Rufflet is a Pokémon that can both win or lose games and we will see how it does today. The rest of the team is quite fine and has Thwackey and Tortle as wincons although both have their own checks such as, Roselia/gCorsola and Roselia, respectively. It seems that Thwackey can lure Roselia to let SS Tortle sweep. It is important to note that Rufflet can do big damage but gCorsola can soft check it and Piloswine+Raboot+gLinoone can revenge kill them. Somalia needs to play it quite carefully. On the other hand, Fraise has gLinoone who can do NASTY things as has no stop. Raboot is soft checked by Tortle if it is tanky but not other than that. Just with this, Fraise is in a better position.

T1 Somalia's Tortle reveals to be tanky so Somalia's winning chances go down immediately. t2 Electabuzz reveals to be Covet which is fine but Thief could be better to do the same against gCorsola too. t5 and t6 makes Somalia be in a better position than before as Fraise sacks one of the best checks it has for both Thwackey and Rufflet named gCorsola. If it was running WoW, I think it should have been better went with it in t4 when Thwackey SD. t9 Gurdurr reveals Mach Punch and claims Ebuzz. It gets even again. Rufflet comes into the field but it does an Aerial Ace that it is not enough for Pilo. This position is a bit weird as, from calcs, typical Pilo bulky (252 HP, 252 Atk) and CB +252Atk does more than 25%. Initially I thought it was a weird CB Rufflet but I have been told that Rufflet was CB but supposedly Piloswine was physical defensive (edited). This scenario decreases the chances of winning for Somalia even further. Fraise sucks afterwards Gurdurr against it after a couple of turns to let gLinoone enter the field and faint Thwackey. Some straightforward turns which makes Fraise to even sack more but at the same time faint the opponent's Tortle which is important to let Raboot and gLinoone do whatever they want to. t25 to t27 Raboot/gLinoone faint Raboot and, from that position, Fraise wins the game with both Pokémon and sacking Roselia.

And that's it for the second week!! I hope you enjoy the games and the review. I think Kabila vs Elfu was the highlight of the week after analyzing the game and Jordy vs Chleo was clutch one too of consistency.

See you Pokémaniacs :blobpex:

OMWC BH Reviews: Week 2

MAMP vs Ivar57 - :zacian::regigigas::lunala::zygarde-complete::celesteela::ho-oh: vs :regigigas::zamazenta-crowned::dialga::yveltal::xerneas::ho-oh:
Fairly standard teams from both sides, spare MAMP's rare Zacian bring.

First few turns are mostly just set reveals, as RegenVest Dialga, Desolate Land Ho-Oh and Primordial Sea Zama-C are revealed. It only takes 6 turns for something to drop, however, as Ivar's Regigigas reveals Wicked Blow to invalidate Lunala. Ivar manages to get the Doom Desite setup for turn 15 (DD, u-turn, hit with a big damage dealer), but instead decides to Spin, letting Ho-Oh get back to healthy. On turn 20 Ivar's Ho-Oh sets up a dangerous Shift Gear, and after some pivoting to scout moves MAMP decides to sack Celesteela to V-create, in order to force the -2 Def / +0 Spe Ho-Oh out with Regigigas. MAMP reads the switch with an SD and takes out Yveltal, but not after being hit by Boomburst and being forced out by Ivar's ESpeed Xerneas. Zacian comes in on turn 32 and manages to take out Ivar's Regigigas before being forced out, and since Ivar sacked his Spinner (Celesteela) earlier MAMP decides to get 3 layers of Spikes up. Not a lot happens until turn 54, when Ivar's Ho-Oh is healthy and Shift Gears again, barely missing the kill on MAMP's Ho-Oh and eating a paralysis. A timely full para the next turn lets MAMP heal and trade damage on Ivar's Ho-Oh before going down, giving a free switch to Blades Regigigas and allowing him to finish off the Zama-C. Xerneas comes in and finishes off Regigigas, and now can win the game if it wins the 50/50 (Boomburst and hit the incoming Zygarde, ESpeed and hit the Zacian currently in), however it clicks ESpeed and dies to Zygarde's Rocky Helmet. Zygarde finishes off Ivar's last 2 mons, winning the game.

quojova vs TTTech - :groudon::zamazenta-crowned::heatran::giratina::yveltal::kyogre: vs:regigigas::xerneas::giratina::zamazenta-crowned::zygarde-complete::ho-oh:
Similar to the above, with balances on both sides but some odd picks such as Giratina and quojova's second Heatran bring.

Level 99 usually indicates RegenVest, so TTTech leading Zygarde-C is expected, however both players do basically the same thing and lead Teleport Giratinas - TTTech opts for activating Regigigas' Toxic Orb, whereas quojova moves after and decides to bring Zama-C in. CC from offensive Zama-C OHKOs Regigigas (so presumably this is Tough Claws + Expert Belt), and after some switching, TTTech manages to Knock Off Heatran's Assault Vest (although for checking Xern this means basically nothing). After a load of switching, TTTech manages to cripple Giratina with a Scarf (since quojova wasn't holding Griseous Orb), and outside of TTTech revealing Taunt Zama-C not a lot happens until turn 28 when Spikes start going up. Yveltal comes in to Spin, taking a huge chunk from V-create, forcing it to heal on Zygarde and eat a Nuzzle. More switching happens until turn 38, when quojova hits Zygarde with Glacial Lance, removing it. It also manages to kill TTTech's Zama-C after some switching, and the game is basically sealed at this point. Giratina gets caught by Wicked Blow, and TTTech plays until turn 140 when Xerneas dies to Yveltal's Boomburst.

Palapapop vs Tea Guzzler - :blacephalon::kyurem-black::lunala::zygarde-complete::zamazenta-crowned::zacian:vs :xerneas::ho-oh::zamazenta-crowned::zygarde-complete::regigigas::melmetal:
Palapapop brings what looks like a highly offensive team with very little defensive investment, so will mostly be down to who can keep momentum.

First few turns is mostly scouting, I get that Palapapop's Zyg-C is RegenVest and see Zacian's Toxic Orb crack. The Sacred Fire on Zacian gives free entry to Ho-Oh, knowing that I can either scout PrimSea Zama-C early or just take kills, and I get a Shift Gear on the switch. Despite hitting 2 resists, on turn 11 I see that I can get a guaranteed kill by not missing V-create, and I get Zama-C. In comes Blacephalon, so I switch to Zama-C and manage to both Knock Off Zyg-C's Assault Vest and scout Fur Coat Lunala. My Regigigas comes in and thanks to Psycho Shift manages to Poison both Zyg-C and Lunala, making Ho-Oh's job easier. Blacephalon comes in from U-turn but misses predict with Volt Switch twice, meaning I get a free Recover with Zyg-C and can surpress Adaptability. Ho-Oh gets in again the next turn, and thanks to Psycho Shift and Life Orb I can remove Lunala. Kyurem comes in next, and reveals what I can only interpret as Scarf Technician (?), finishing Ho-Oh. I go to Xerneas and take the free Sap, finishing off Blace in the process. Even with getting the Bonemerang predict, Kyurem is unable to finish off Melmetal, leaving only Zacian which I PP stall for the win.

The Blace and Kyu-B sets were really weird. The only assumption that I can make is that Blace was Scarf Adapt, as 64% to Xern is within that range.
edit: magic guard life orb blace

Tanny89k vs Quantum Tesseract - :zamazenta-crowned::lunala::xerneas::regigigas::ho-oh::zygarde-complete: vs :barraskewda::xerneas::zygarde-complete::lunala::ferrothorn::chansey:
QT loads a stellar Barraskewda match-up, as there's only 2 mons on Tanny's side that can dodge the OHKO.

Right away, Tanny's Zama-C drops the Zyg-C in front of it (which even after band is still somehow a roll), with QT's Imposter revealing U-turn and allowing Tanny to get Regigigas in safely. However it's not able to have any effect, as the Bounce Ferrothorn in front of it traps and eliminates it. Tanny brings in Zama-C again, which reveals Regen Band, and pivots out to Xerneas which heavily damages QT's Lunala in exchange for paralysis. QT copies Xerneas and switches to Ho-Oh, however his predict of an instant switch-out doesn't pay off as Zyg-C comes in and eats a Boomburst. Lunala comes in after and takes Zyg-C's Glare, and both heal up before Tanny brings in Xern again. After some switching, Tanny's Lunala reveals Astral Barrage (likely the Simple + No Retreat set), but then QT's Xerneas gets in and takes 2 kills. Tanny brings in Shift Gear Ho-Oh to try and claw back some kills, bt doesn't do enough to Lunala and gets paralysed as a result. Xerneas can come in and finish it of thanks to V-create's Defense drops, and catches Lunala with a crit Boomburst through the No Retreat boosts, killing it and ending the game.

The crit certainly hurt but I don't know if it was entirely necessary - Lunala would need to be the 201 SpDef variant (which can OHKO Imposter Chansey with Astral Barrage), win the tie, and also get the 43.8% roll to kill Ferrothorn (it it was +SpDef Ferrothorn then Lunala just loses) in order to win. Interestingly, Barraskewda never even came in despite the good matchup.

More About OMWC BH Week 2

Pokemon of the Week

:ss/ho-oh:
Five Use, Great Performance, Shift Gear, V-Create, and Glacial Lance!
:ss/zamazenta-crowned:
Yea there can be two Pokemon of the Week lol. Here zamac is nominated because of the two uses of its offensive sets.

Meta Observation & Trend
People made some changes in Week 2, however that didn't result into a fun week still. Meta trends continues as I wrote last week, where people try to find something fast and powerful to kill RegiXern. And, generally, standard balance teams really did not perform well in Week 2. To make the meta chaotic again, I personally suggest running some TTTech noises in Week 3. You know what I mean.

Predictions
Sevag says he's not gonna do this so it's my part now.

SS Balanced Hackmons: MAMP vs quojova
HL of the Week. MAMP's teams have patterns and quojova is a lazy builder. That being said their teams are still not easy to cteam. quojova mixed some city sets into his team which was interesting. However, this week they already got eliminated so I doubt whether city will still help. I'm bolding quojova here anyway cuz I rate quojova slightly higher than MAMP on their own.

SS Balanced Hackmons: TTTech vs Jordy
Ehhhh. I can swear that I'm not helping US South Northeast and I don't really know how TTTech prepares. I think TTTech should win this just by his much more experience than Jordy in BH. However, his balance-style teams really don't look that good to me (This sentense by sevag Nope I mean it myself, don't mean ur bad TTTech <3). Jordy is, ehhhh, Jordy. They already get into playoffs. Congrats.

SS Balanced Hackmons: Dragonillis vs Tanny89k
I don't really know haha. Dragonillis knows how to pick a valid team for tours and can play well. And since some team is down they perhaps can get teams from them. I seldom talk about Dragonillis themself's building cuz I really don't know much about that sry ;-; Tanny is growing as a BH player, or do they realize they still need to grow? They have great performances for some times, and relatively bad ones for others. If they still bring an "HO" like they did in Week 2 I think they should take the L. However, it's always exciting to see someone becomes better, so my predict represents my wish here.

SS Balanced Hackmons: Quantum Tesseract vs Tea Guzzler
HL of the Week in my mind. Remember Tea swore to kick my face in for OMWC when his OMPL just finished, and unfortunately I get knocked out too early by my evil ex-teammate Cutie. The fate gives him another chance to beat a less great player in the same team instead, maybe meaning to lower the difficulty of this challenge ;) Both players are performing very well recently I'd say. Their battles are very comfortable to watch since they both show good understanding of the current meta by building and playing. I think Tea still can win this even though QT does have more experience in both playing and building for sure, but with a low chance.
