World Cup: South Africa 2010 - Paul and Spain win!

Tbh, it might have been cheap, but it's an ingenious move and it paid off.

One can't say he wasn't punished for it, he got a red card and a penalty against his team (which missed) and his team ended up winning the match.

Cheap? Yes. Unfair? Debatable. Smart? Definitely.

Nobody would have done anything different if it meant the difference between having a chance at getting through or going out 100%.

I think everyone should stop bitching about Suarez. He did something wrong got punished accordingly and then Ghana fucked up. That's all that happened.

at first i though suarez was a dirty player (mind you ive been rooting ghana since the group stages) but like everyone said justice has already been served; he got the red card, gyan had the chance to win it, and he finally wont even be in the lineup when they play holland, it was really a split-second decision which in the end worked out for uruguay

I was rooting for ghana, and im not going to lie i was pretty depressed, but i know that if i had a chance to do the same thing in suarez position i would have done it with no regrets. But in all seriousness, this is really going to be one of those situations that make people say things like "soccer is stupid" and "world cup is dumb." That was a no shit 100% goal and it was stopped by a hand ball. How many times does a team have to win a game before they have actually won? In basketball they have a rule called goal tending, which accounts for "bs" like this.

That handball was pretty disappointing. All I can say is Ghana got screwed there. There's not much that can be done. A lot of the games this World Cup have had a questionable situations come up, though. Must be tough to be a referee there.

I only watched the second half of the game, but from what I saw, Ghana played much better than Uruguay. Maybe I just equate 'playing offensively' with 'playing better,' but Ghana was getting a load of close calls and narrowly missed goals near the end, while Uruguay only got close to the opposing goal a handful of times, and when they did, Ghana didn't have much trouble sending the ball back.

I remember that corner kick pretty well, when Uruguay kept kicking the ball out in desperation, granting Ghana another corner kick. I thought it was an intense match. The penalties were just unreal, how Uruguay missed after Ghana was blocked. You just can't make up that kind of suspense.

they were actually once talking about this a while ago, woulda been perfect here <_<

what? This would be the worst rule ever. I could chip a weak shot in from out of the 18', it was going for the goal but it hit someone's hand. Even though being a weak shot and easy save for the keeper, I could argue and say he wouldn't have got it. It's like Theorymoning in pokemon ._.

And to all the unfair handball debate. He was sent off and Ghana were awarded a penalty. I don't see what is unfair. Being a referee for 3 years now, there's nothing more they can do except if Fifa decides to suspend him from the rest of the Cup. Honeslty I had some bias for Uruguay because I couldn't stand to see Ghana win and attempt to dive and waste time in another match.

You all are acting although Suarez did not get punished for this. He did. He got a red card and gave a penalty kick. Now, the team lost one of their key players in semis.

What more could be asked?

Ghana should be blaming those two shitty penalties from Mensah and Adiyah in the shootout. As for Suarez he should invest in a bullet proof vest.

I think it wouldn't be too outlandish to suspend him for two matches instead of one. But in the end, as was said, it was pretty unselfish.

And I think everything about this issue has been said alredy.

not like that, it would only count if its 100% sure that it would have went in if the player hadnt deliberately handballed it, otherwise it would just be stupid

You're all acting as if the referee hadn't been on Ghana's side, we should have shot 2 penalties, and the Free Shot that started the handball from Suarez, wasn't even foult. >_>

What. How the keeper save the ball but yet it accidentally touches another players hand while all going into the goal? I can't think of a scenario in which a shot would accidentally touch a players hand right as it is going into the goal where the keeper would also have a save, unless the keeper was right behind the player and he somehow didn't move out of the way / hear the keeper call him off. I'd say the rule would be pretty good since it would stop someone from doing what Suarez did, not that I think what he did was wrong given the current situation (and rules).

Lol @ below.

The reason why FIFA does not want to employ these rules, is because they dont want to Modernize football, which is why they dont want Video Referee. Just like some Smogonites like the good old Gen I days, these guys like the days they were in.
But they should seriously consider puttng a referee behind the goals, to see these situations.
Also, lol at anyone who thinks that this 'goal tending' crap, is great. This is football, not basketball
But you have to admit, that it was a reflex. If you actually play soccer, you would know that in those situations, you cannot think at all. And its up to your instincts
He was not a hero, nor a villain. He did what any player would do. Are you saying that you wouldnt do what Suarez did?

Wow Brazil lost. maybe it's a signal for the favourites to gtfo (hint: Spain)

Just turned 18, going to pub to watch Argentina's last match. hehe
On a serious note, Argentina is in a good form. That said, both teams have equal chance to win.

Just wanted to say something here about Uruguay X Gana:

It was NOT a disgusting play by Suarez. It was damn awesome, doing that to save your team from defeat on the LAST MINUTE, and then that happned.
JUST. DAMN. EPIC. AWESOME.
Really epic shit.

Oh yeah: Henry's hand was higway robbery: Suarez one wasn't. He got the Red Card and a Penalty Kick for Ghana. It's not his problem if Ghana wasted the chance like that.

And look: this match was the very essence of what World Cup means. If anyone disagrees...sorry, but you do not know what you're saying.
I'm Brazilian, but i can say that i almost cried with that Uruguay victory. Just awesome, that's all i can say. Best World Cup match by far.

About Brazil: well, what can we do? We deserved it >_>

Now rooting for Paraguay. Hard job.
GO PARAGUAY! GO SOUTH AMERICA! (damn i love my cousins lol)

To resume:
If you think Suarez play was unfair, disgusting, it was robbery etc, you don't like the real soccer.
I'm still speechless.
You should too if you like soccer the right way.

Ghana didn't got screwed, didn't you saw Suarez walked away crying? most of Uruguay players with that face of "crap, we are going to loose", he did a dirty play that gave Ghana the upper hand to win this match, and they missed it, the end.

It's not like he did a dirty play, and got away with it, he will be missing the semifinals.

Now on a merrier thing, this is like the 5th time i see Abreu kicking a PK like this, and i still love it!

Fabregas.. show your face in this game. That's all I want.

And for the record.. I feel fucking horrible for Ghana. Really wanted them to handle business against Uruguay. But you can't win with heart alone.
