Wormadam-G (QC 3/3) (GP 0/2)

Wormadam-G

I took over this analysis.

[OVERVIEW]

Often reffered to as Wormadam Sandy Cloak, Wormadam-G has a unique Bug / Ground typing. Although it is able to resist Ground and Fighting type moves, it is open to many common weaknesses in NU, such as Ice, Water and Fire. It is an inferior choice to other Ground types like Golem, because it lacks the popular Stealth Rock, which is seen on almost every team. Its movepool is also extremely limited, which means its usage is very low. However, it does have a cute 105 Defense stat, so it has chances of taking hits.

[SET]
name: Weather Worm
move 1: Rain Dance / Sunny Day
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Bug Bite
move 4: Toxic
item: Damp Rock / Heat Rock
ability: Anticipation
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

The 5th Gen didn't bring Wormadam-G too much to the table. This set focuses on setting up Rain or Sun, then immediately leaving. Earthquake is the main STAB choice, but don't expect it to hit too hard off a meager 79 Attack Stat. Bug Bite is a move that allows you to hit Psychic and Grass types. The EVs maximize defense, in order for Wormadam-G to take hits with more ease, especially from a guy like Sawk. You'll mostly be using this set as a Weather inducer. You use Heat Rock or Damp Rock depending on your choice of weather you make. If you ever see Wormadam-G, this is the set that will probably always be used, because of its shallow movepool.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

You could easily invest EVs on the Special Defense side. However, that is not recommended, since its defense is already higher. The recent Hail ban in NU renders Overcoat useless. There's not too much to say here.

[Other Options]

It has access to Sucker Punch, which allows you to do some decent amount to surprised frail opponents coming in for a free KO. RestTalk seems usable, but Wormadam-G won't be lasting too long anyways. Rock Blast could be used, but it has low power and no STAB.

[Checks and Counters]

Countering this Pokemon isn't a hard task. Weezing particularly enjoys facing it, as it can tank hits and retaliate, as well as being immune to Earthquake due to Levitate. Swanna is also a good choice, since it resists Bug Bite and is immune to Earthquake. The latter can also destroy Wormadam-G with a super-effective Brave Bird. Any Fire, Ice, Water or Flying type moves will probably suffice to shut it down. Taunt users also impose huge limits to Wormadam Sandy Cloak.
