Although I've never played the second generation competitively, it's probably my favorite due to nostalgia. Too many awesome Pokemon were ceated in that generation (Scizor, Meganium, Tyranitar, Elekid, Typhlosion, Steelix).

Oh god, 2nd for sure. It was the first I played and will always have a place in my heart. I also loved the fact that after you beat the elite four, there was still a lot to do, and you could do what you wanted to.

EDIT: oh and competitively, 3rd and 4th

My favorite would be DPP, for what it did in regards to competitive battling.
Thorn, care to elaborate as to what you said?

Second favorite, however, would have to be GSC. I to would very much enjoy a remake of some sort.

DPP is my favourite because of competitive battling pretty much started with that generation for me.

Second would have to be GSC. I would be so happy if they made a remake, as would most of you I assume.

GSC was easily the best. Everytime I play through any of the games I always find that they are too short. This is why I still play GSC because having 16 gyms was just epic.

GSC was the best, IMO.
Great new Pokemon, awesome new region, LONGER GAME FTW.

But yeah, second is probably RBY, then DPPt, and I really didn't like RSE that much =/

Mine would have to be Jhoto. Great games, great Pokemon, and really the only part in the Anime that I enjoyed watching.

strange how many people likes the 2° gen the most, probaby I'm one of the few that was disappointed, once I saw that the safari zone was gone, the league was too easy and it didn't update after you got the new badges, and the Birds were gone... that was hard... I still remember when I found the *new* power plant... no zapdos=sadness
Probably those bad reminders are what make me enjoy the first gen much more.

Everyone's always pursuaded to like Johto the most because 'you got to go back to Kanto'.. but I don't see why this was so ground breaking, GSC was easily the worst. It did bring quite a bit to the table, but this was all improved drastically in the next games. Johto was actually a rather small and not overly exciting place, the story was so much better in RSE. Johto is small and I think every generation bar possibly DPP has better Pokémon within it.

I voted RSE, by the way. DPP has a better battle system and further breeding upgrades etc, but Hoenn wins out at everything else. (Although I haven't played Platinum yet, I could like that more than Emerald, but I kind of doubt I will).

I would have to say that the 2nd Generation was my favourite by a mile (There is a reason I used to be called Goldfan!)

The first generation was cool at the time, but lack was over very quickly and there wasn't that much variety. Maybe it was because I only ever played first Gen ROMs that I never really got to understand it. The second gen I liked the best because "It was the same yet different," I can only have been 8 or 9 at the time it came out I think, so all of the new Pokemon and areas were fantastic to me, not only that but it had the coolest legendary duo by far. And to top it off, it still had all of the RBY areas in a different order with a different "plotline" if you can call it that.

The 3rd Generation was cool, but really "nothing special" I quite liked the Magma / Aqua split, but by that age I was getting tired of "traditional Pokemon playing," as in playing through the game and trying to "catch them all." I started that 4th generation with that mentality and it is only slightly better in my eyes because I started playing competitively.

If I had been around to play competitivley I would probably have enjoyed the 3rd Genration most. I don't know a lot about the first generation, I don't think I could have dealt with the 2nd Generation as I get impatient playing with Stall, but the 3rd Generation seems to have been nicely balanced, and with an emphasis on quality team building and intelligant descsions, whereas in DP, there are a lot more luck based attributes.

I suppose you're right, but, I hated R/S/E's story. Meh.

Emerald did have a lot of things to do once you beat the game, which is what I had always been looking for.

All the things you guys have said have been interesting, but for some reason I just didn't like RSE that much. I don't know what it was, but something was missing. Maybe it was the story or something but it just didn't stand out to me. GSC was pretty good but now thinking back on it DPP makes a close second.

I find that, for the most part, the generation people like best is the one they "really" started with - the first one they really invested time in.

Me, I played Red and Blue religiously as a kid, so I like those the best.

Wasn't keen on GSC, it's incredibly overrated. I loved RSE, as that's what "really" got me into Pokémon, but DP is just immense with all the additional features.

I started Pokemon from the very beginning, that means RBY, but I still would enjoy playing GSC a little more, even though I sure do have some great memories of RBY.

G/S/C was my favorite in terms of the actual game, with R/B/Y close behind. I didn't really like R/S/E that much, and I really don't like D/P/Pt..

Competitively, R/S/E. I liked it the most, and I still haven't been able to really get into 4th gen, it actually kind of bothers me a bit... but, whatever.

The 2nd generation is my favorite because it is one of my dearest childhood memories I remember hanging with my friends in the neighborhood playing Pokemon Gold and Silver as well as talking about the TV show.

My favorite generation when it comes to competitive battling is the 4th generation because that is when I came into starting my battling, even though I knew about in 2005 I never tried my hand at Netbattle, and my first competitive double battle was against SKYUPPERCUTT60 / Yuki in the Semi-Finals of the 10 ANIV JAA Georgia Tourney.

3rd generation, probably because it was my first one.

I have played Pokemon Gold afterwards, but I never really enjoyed it. To me, it was a tedious, retarded-graphic game with a way too weak E4 and a blatantly unfinished Kanto that could have been left out easily. I never quite understood the hype around the second generation - I mean, you could say that I never played the games in their right era, but right now, they just seem so utterly inferior to every Pokemon game brought out after that (well, apart from stupid things like Pokemon Dash and such).

I did enjoy Leaf Green, so I'm guessing a remake of a second gen game would be cool to me. They'd probably improve all the weak spots of the original games anyway.

Tough choice, but I said the DPPt generation was my favorite. I like them all, but this generation really got me interested in competitive battling.

Wow... hard decision. I've really been obsessed; RBY was the omly one I didn't like (or play) much.

GSC is high up because of its "classicy" feel and, actually, easy Elite 4. It was really hard to beat Red, but last time I seriously beat it with my highest level at 51 and a deadweight Togepi for Flash.

Many of my fave Pokemon are from RSE, and my Emerald is basically my gateway to Sinnoh. On my old Ruby, I had a level 100 Swampert, both Lati's (if I use the @ symbol it makes it a link), and so many other goodies that it blew the mind. Then my little brother started over on it and I got soo mad I nearly killed him.

DPPlat brought Wi-Fi, new Pokes, an easier way to get BP, real competition, and my lvl. 94 Empoleon. Fewer points than previous ones, but by far a fierce competitor.

Overall, it was probably RSE.

I voted for the 2nd generation......and it is leading by an overwhelming majority! I am VERY shocked!!

I voted for it, because it was the game I played the most during my childhood. I also loved the fact that it was a sequel to the original game, extended amount of badges, Lugia was a bitchin' legendary, and the internal clock was an AMAZING feature back in the year 2000!
