move 4: Defog
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Pressure / Static
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Zapdos is one of the best defensive Pokemon for Electric teams due to its ability to deal with Ground- and Grass-types like Excadrill, Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Tapu Bulu with its Flying typing, provide Defog support to remove entry hazards, and keep itself healthy with Roost. Volt Switch is used to pivot teammates in, whereas Discharge is used to spread paralysis on Pokemon like Latias and Mega Venusaur, which are threats to Electric teams. Heat Wave is required for Zapdos to damage common Steel- and Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Pressure allows Zapdos to stall out defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Mew, and Static allows it to potentially paralyze Pokemon that tend to use contact moves like Victini, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Lopunny. 80 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like Diggersby, Tapu Bulu, and Bisharp, while 252 HP and 176 Defense EVs allow it to take on physical attackers like Rock Slide Excadrill and Waterfall Mega Swampert.

All of Zapdos's teammates appreciate its utility in removing entry hazards thanks to Defog and its ability to check Steel- and Grass-types like Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Rillaboom with Heat Wave. Tapu Koko and Alolan Raichu form a great offensive core, and because of their high Speed, they can check faster threats like Hydreigon and Mega Diancie. In return, Zapdos pivots them in safely with Volt Switch. Tapu Koko can notably defeat Dragon-types like Mega Altaria and Kommo-o with Dazzling Gleam, while Alolan Raichu can beat Poison-types like Mega Venusaur and Nihilego with Psychic. Magnezone can get rid of Ice-types that threaten Zapdos, like Kyurem and Weavile, with Flash Cannon while in return, Zapdos can switch into Fighting-types like Mega Gallade and Hawlucha. Alolan Golem also helps Zapdos with Ice-types like Alolan Ninetales and Weavile with its Rock-type STAB attacks. Rotom-W forms a defensive core with Zapdos and provides Will-O-Wisp support to cripple physical attackers, while both pivot teammates in with Volt Switch. Rotom-W can also switch into threatening Fire- and Water-types like Victini, Greninja, and Urshifu-R. Zeraora and Thundurus help with bulky Pokemon that Zapdos cannot harm like Blissey and Porygon2 and Dark-, Ice-, and Rock-types such as Tyranitar, Piloswine, and Nihilego while Zapdos's Volt Switch brings them in safely. Rotom-C is a nice special attacker that deals with Ground / Water Pokemon like Gastrodon and Seismitoad that Zapdos has a hard time getting rid of. Regieleki is a powerful wallbreaker with Choice Specs that can outspeed threats like Latios and Volcarona, and is a beast in Electric Terrain. Both Rotom-W and Rotom-C provide a secondary Ground immunity but aren't reliable checks to Mold Breaker Excadrill.

name: SubToxic (Electric)
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Discharge
move 3: Roost
move 4: Toxic
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
ability: Pressure
nature: Timid
evs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Zapdos's unique Speed tier and decent bulk allow it to function well with a SubToxic set while also being a crucial Ground-type immunity thanks to its Flying typing. Substitute allows Zapdos to avoid being affected by status ailments like poison and burn from Pokemon like Mega Sableye and Ferrothorn while also coordinating well with Pressure and recovering with Roost to increase longevity. Discharge is Zapdos's primary STAB attack and it's used over Thunderbolt to increase odds of paralysis on Poison- and Steel-types like Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn that aren't affected by Toxic while also making it harder for Pokemon to revenge kill it. Toxic is required to beat Ground-type Pokemon like Hippowdon, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon along with opposing walls and bulky Pokemon Mega Latias and Porygon2. Heavy-Duty Boots negates Stealth Rock damage, while Leftovers helps Zapdos recover behind Substitute. Pressure helps stall out moves with low PP like Stone Edge, Diamond Storm, and Hydro Pump. Maximum EVs in Speed with a Timid nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like Urshifu-S and Tapu Lele, while 248 HP EVs are used over 252 HP EVs to allow it to set up Substitute four times and increase its overall bulk.

Alolan Golem helps with Ice-types that threaten Zapdos like Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales with its Rock-type STAB attacks and Stealth Rock, while in return Zapdos's part Flying typing helps it switch into Ground- and Fighting-types like Gastrodon, Excadrill, Mega Gallade, and Hawlucha. Tapu Koko helps with Fighting-, Dragon-, and Dark-types like Urshifu-S, Kommo-o, and Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam, and with Alolan Raichu, they both help Zapdos with faster threats it cannot deal with like Terrakion and Zarude. Magnezone traps and eliminates Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Jirachi with Hidden Power Fire and Body Press that Zapdos cannot damage, while also hitting Ice- and Fairy-type Pokemon like Mamoswine and Tapu Bulu with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus help with Dark-, Ice-, and Rock-types like Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar and notable defensive Normal-types like Blissey and Porygon2 with Close Combat and Superpower, respectively. Zeraora can also get rid of troubling Grass-types like Mega Venusaur and Tapu Bulu with Z-Bounce. Zapdos appreciates Rotom-W pivoting it in safely with Volt Switch, spreading status with Will-O-Wisp and Toxic, hitting Ground- and Rock-types like Nidoking, Landorus-T, and Alolan Golem with Hydro Pump, and providing an additional Ground immunity thanks to Levitate. Its also able to switch into Fire- and Water-types like Cinderace and Greninja.

[SET COMMENTS]

Zapdos is a great offensive option on Electric teams because of its high Special Attack enhanced by Choice Specs, which allows it to serve as an effective wallbreaker and offensive pivot. Hurricane is amazing because it gives Electric a way to effectively hit bulky Grass-types like Mega Venusaur, Rillaboom, and Cradily, which can be an overall difficult matchup. It's also useful against Dragon-types like Latias and Mega Altaria. Heat Wave allows it to take on Ice-, Steel-, and Grass-types such as Glastrier, Excadrill, Mega Scizor, and Ferrothorn. Hidden Power Ice allows Zapdos to hit Dragon- and Ground-types like Dragonite, Garchomp, and Landorus super effectively. Thunderbolt is an option for a stronger Electric STAB, though it is hard to justify using it over Hidden Power Ice. Volt Switch allows Zapdos to pivot into its teammates to gain momentum throughout the match. Thunderbolt can also be run if Hidden Power Ice is being used in the third slot, but pivoting with Volt Switch is generally more useful. Choice Specs increases Zapdos's wallbreaking potential, and 252 Speed EVs let it outspeed Jolly Heatran and Urshifu-S.

Choice Specs Zapdos doesn't run Roost normally, so using Rotom-W as an entry hazard remover with Defog over Pain Split is more favorable. Rotom-W acts as an Ice-type resist, forms a Ground-immune core with Zapdos, and notably helps with Fire- and Ground-types like Heatran and Mamoswine with Hydro Pump. Alolan Golem sets Stealth Rock and helps with Ice-types like Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales that threaten Zapdos with its Rock-type attacks, and in return Zapdos can get rid of Grass- and Ground-types like Breloom, Rillaboom, and Mega Garchomp that can KO Alolan Golem. Magnezone is a nice Fairy resist that deals with Ice- and Rock-types like Mamoswine, Kyurem, and Mega Diancie that threaten Zapdos with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus can check Normal-, Dark-, Ice-, and Rock-types like Porygon2, Blissey, Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar with their respective Fighting-type attacks. Tapu Koko and Alolan Raichu are great offensive options and because of their high Speed, they can check faster threats like Mega Diancie and Zarude, while Zapdos can generate momentum and bring them in with Volt Switch. Tapu Koko deals with Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-types such as Kommo-o, Mega Latios, Terrakion, and Hydreigon thanks to Dazzling Gleam, and Alolan Raichu deals with Poison-types like Mega Venusaur and Nihilego.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============

Heat Wave can be used over Toxic on Zapdos's SubToxic set as it allows Zapdos to hit Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Hurricane is an option over Defog on its Support set to hit Mega Venusaur to improve the Grass matchup. Roost is an option on its Choice Specs set to give Zapdos more longevity throughout the match. The downside of this is losing momentum wasting a turn recovering and being Choice-locked into a passive move.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-type Pokemon like Latios and Mega Altaria resist Zapdos's Discharge and Heat Wave and can recover the damage off with Recover or Roost. However, they do not like dealing with Hurricane from Choice Specs Zapdos.

**Walls**: Defensive Pokemon like Blissey, Porygon2, and Mega Venusaur can recover with Soft-Boiled, Recover, and Synthesis, respectively, which makes them hard for Zapdos to get rid of.

**Stallbreakers**: Zapdos is unable to recover with Roost, get rid of entry hazards, or use Toxic if it gets taunted by Pokemon like Hydreigon, Mew, and Gliscor.

**Status**: Toxic heavily cripples Zapdos by putting it on a timer, while Will-O-Wisp negates its Leftovers recovery.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Ice-type STAB attacks from Pokemon like Weavile and Kyurem and Rock-type STAB attacks from Mega Diancie and Terrakion can KO Zapdos.

**Wallbreakers**: Choice Band Urshifu-S, Choice Band Victini, and Choice Specs Hydreigon have no problem dealing with Zapdos.

Zapdos is a good offensive option on more offensive Electric-teams because of its high Special Attack enhanced by Choice Specs, which allows it to serve as an effective wallbreaker and offensive pivot [Reword this, Electric teams are generally very offensive anyway, I don't think "more offensive" needs to be mentioned]. Hurricane is amazing because it gives Electric a way to effectively hit bulky Grass-types like Mega Venusaur, Rillaboom, and Cradily, and Appletun, which can be an overall difficult matchup. Heat Wave allows it to take on Ice-, Steel-, and Grass-types such as Alolan Ninetales Glastrier, Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor. Hidden Power Ice is more consistent than Hurricane [Consistency in comparison to Hurricane doesn't make sense here, they don't hit the same targets, rephrase] and it lets Zapdos hit Dragon- and Ground-types like Dragonite, Garchomp, and Landorus. Thunderbolt is an option over Hidden Power Ice for a strong Electric STAB [Examples of what the Electric STAB helps against]. Volt Switch allows Zapdos to pivot into its teammates to gain momentum throughout the match. Choice Specs increases the power of all of Zapdos's moves, allowing it to be a powerful wallbreaker alongside its base 125 Special Attack. Maximum EVs in Speed and Special Attack with a Jolly nature allows Zapdos to be as strong and as fast as possibile, outpacing outpace Pokemon like Jolly Heatran and both Urshifu forms.

Choice Specs Zapdos means it cannot run Roost so using Rotom-W with Defog over Pain Split is more favorable [Your point is valid but be more clear about it, Rotom removing hazards for Zapdos]. Rotom-W alongside Zapdos forms a Ground immunity core and it notable helps with Fire- and Ground-types like Rotom-H and Mamoswine with Hydro Pump [Add that Rotom-W acts as an Ice-type resist for Zapdos and change Rotom-H to a more common Fire-type]. Alolan Golem sets Stealth Rocks and helps with Ice-types like Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales that threaten Zapdos with its respective Rock-type attacks, in return Zapdos can get rid of Grass- and Ground-types like Breloom, Rillaboom, and Mega Garchomp that can KO Alolan Golem. Magnezone can trap Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Jirachi, and KO them with Hidden Power Fire or Iron Defense + Body Press, along with hitting Ice-types like Mamoswine and Kyurem that threaten Zapdos with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus-I can check defensive Normal-types like Porygon2 and Blissey [Just mention that they can help greatly in the Normal-type matchup, instead of limiting it to just defensive Normal-types] and Dark-, Ice-, Rock-types like Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar with their respective Fighting-type attacks. [Where's Tapu Koko :psycry: ]

Switched the set around; the attacking moves here are generally more useful than support moves like Roost and Defog

[SET COMMENTS]
Zapdos's viability comes from the fact that it's the best defensive Electric/Flying available as it's able to switch into Earthquake from Pokemon like Excadrill and recover with Roost throughout the match. Reword this sentence to something like: "Zapdos is an amazing defensive Pokemon for Electric teams due to its ability to deal with Ground- and Grass- types like Excadrill, Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Tapu Bulu with its Flying typing, reliably recover with Roost, and provide Defog support. Its two abilities Pressure and Static benefit Zapdos a lot while one stalls out defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Mew, or the latter that paralyzes Pokemon that tend to use contact moves like Victini, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Lopunny. I moved this down because you don't explain the abilities first Zapdos is able to come in and not be affected by Stealth Rock as long as Heavy-Duty Boots is intact and can clear entry hazards with Defog and use Roost to maintain its longevity. The downside of Defog due to Generation 8 mechanics is clearing Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain but Tapu Koko can always set it back up once it comes back into combat. Not necessary for an analysis Heat Wave is required for Zapdos to damage common Steel- and Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Volt Switch and Discharge are Zapdos's STAB attacks whereas the former pivots teammates in and the latter is preferred over Thunderbolt because of its chances of spreading paralysis [mention Pokemon that Discharge is useful for paralyzing]. Zapdos's two abilities in Pressure and Static are very useful; the former allows it to stall out defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Mew, and the latter allows it to potentially paralyze Pokemon that tend to use contact moves like Victini, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Lopunny. 80 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like Diggersby, Tapu Bulu, and Bisharp, while 252 EVs in HP betters its longevity, and 176 Def EVs with a Timid Nature HP and 176 Defense EVs allows it to take on physical attacks like Rock Slide Excadrill and Waterfall Mega Swampert.

With my set change, make sure you switch the mentions of moves around accordingly.

All of Zapdos's teammates appreciate its ability to check Mold Breaker Excadrill with Earthquake [Grass-types like Rillaboom, Ferrothorn, and Tapu Bulu are worth mentioning too] while also having the utility to remove entry hazards thanks to Defog. Tapu Koko and Alolan Raichu form a great offensive core and because of their high speed, they can check faster threats like Dragapult [Dragapult is banned; find another example] and Mega Diancie and in return, Zapdos safely pivots them in safely with Volt Switch. [Add what threats they can beat. Alolan Raichu defeats Poison-types like Mega Venusaur, while Tapu Koko deals with Dragon-types like Mega Latias, Kommo-o, etc.] Magnezone traps Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor with Magnet Pull and can KO them with HP Fire idk if this is needed, Zapdos can beat these Steel-types anyway while also helping with Ice-types that threaten Zapdos like Kyurem and Weavile with Flash Cannon. In return, Zapdos helps Magnezone with being able to switch into Fighting-types like Mega Gallade and Hawlucha with its part Flying-type. Alolan Golem also helps Zapdos with Ice-types like Alolan Ninetales and Weavile with its Rock-type STAB-attacks and is Electric's best Stealth Rock setter to have. Rotom-W forms a defensive core with Zapdos and provides Will-O-Wisp support to cripple physical attacks while together pivoting teammates in with Volt Switch [add that Rotom-W can also switch into threatening Water- and Fire-types, and provide examples]. Zeraora and Thundurus-I help with bulky Pokemon that Zapdos cannot harm like Blissey and Porygon2 and Dark-, Ice-, and Rock-types such as Tyranitar, Piloswine, and Nihilego while Zapdos's Volt Switch brings them in safely also. Rotom-M is a nice special attacker that helps with Electric-immune Pokemon like Gastrodon and Lanturn that this Zapdos set cannot touch with Leaf Storm worded a bit weirdly; I would rather say that Rotom-C deals with Ground/Water types like Gastrodon and Seismitoad using Leaf Storm, which Zapdos otherwise has a tough time dealing with. Also, Lanturn is p uncommon so Seismitoad is a far more relevant example. Regieleki is a powerful wallbreaker with Choice Specs and is a beast in Electric Terrain but is often a fish for poor teambuilding or against a no Electric-immunity [add what threats it can outspeed for Zapdos]. Both Rotom-W and Rotom-M Rotom-C provide a secondary Ground immunity but aren't reliable checks to Mold Breaker Excadrill.

Zapdos's unique speed tier and decent bulk allow it to function well with a SubToxic set while also being a crucial Ground-type immunity thanks to its Flying-typing. Substitute allows Zapdos to avoid being affected by status ailments like Toxic and Will-O-Wisp from Pokemon like Mega Sableye and Ferrothorn while also co-ordinating well with Pressure and recovering with Roost to increase longevity. Discharge is Zapdos's primary STAB-attack and it's used over Thunderbolt to stimulate paralysis on Poison- and Steel-types like Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn that aren't affected by Toxic while also making it harder for Pokemon to revenge kill it. Toxic is required to beat Ground-type Pokemon that are unaffected by Discharge like Hippowdon and Gastrodon along with opposing walls and bulky Pokemon Mega Latias and Porygon2. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Zapdos to become unaffected by Stealth Rock while Leftovers helps Zapdos recover behind Substitute. Pressure helps stall out moves with low PP like Stone Edge, Diamond Storm, and Hydro Pump. Maximum EVs in Speed with a Jolly nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like both Urshifu forms and Jolly Heatran [Jolly Heatran is a weird example; replace this with something like Tapu Lele] while 248 HP EVs are used over 252 [252 what?] to allow it to setup 4 Substitutes and increase its overall bulk.

Alolan Golem helps with Ice-types like Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales that threaten Zapdos with its Rock-type STAB attacks and sets Stealth Rocks for the entire team while in return Zapdos's part Flying-typing helps switch into Ground- and Fighting-types like Gastrodon, Excadrill, Mega Gallade, and Hawlucha. Tapu Koko helps with Fighting-, Dragon-, and Dark-types like Urshifu-S, Kommo-o, and Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam and with Alolan Raichu, they both help Zapdos with faster threats it cannot deal with like Terrakion and Zarude. Magnezone traps and kills Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Jirachi with Hidden Power Fire and Body Press that Zapdos cannot damage along with while also hitting Ice- and Fairy-type Pokemon like Mamoswine and Tapu Bulu with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus-I help with Dark-, Ice-, Rock-types like Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar, and notable defensive Normal-types like Blissey and Porygon2 with Close Combat and the ladder latter with Superpower. Zapdos appreciates Rotom-W pivoting it in safely with Volt Switch, spreading status with Will-O-Wisp and Toxic, hitting Ground- and Rock-types like Nidoking and Landorus-T with Hydro Pump, and providing an additional Ground-immunity thanks to Levitate [Its Water- and Fire-type resistance is useful as well].

* remove this bullet Heat Wave can be used over Toxic on its SubToxic set as it allows Zapdos to hit Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor whereas Discharge isn't doing much. Hurricane is an option over Defog on its Support set to hit Mega Venusaur to better improve the Grass matchup. Roost is an option on its Choice Specs set to give it more longevity throughout the match.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Dragon-Types**: Dragon-type Pokemon like Latios and Mega Altaria resists Zapdos's Discharge and Heat Wave and can recover the damage off with Recover or Roost.

**Defensive-Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Blissey, Porygon2, and Mega Venusaur can recover with Soft-Boiled, Recovery, and Synthesis, respectively, which makes it hard for Zapdos [to what?].

**Stallbreakers**: Zapdos is unable to recover with Roost, get rid of entry hazards, or use Toxic if it gets taunted by Pokemon like Hydreigon, Mew, and Gliscor.

**Status**: Toxic heavily cripples Zapdos as it does more damage over time and puts Zapdos on a timer while Will-O-Wisp also cripples Zapdos as well but only negates Leftovers recovery.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Ice-type STAB attacks from Pokemon like Weavile and Kyurem and Rock-type STAB attacks from Mega Diancie and Terrakion can KO Zapdos.

**Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers like Choice Band both Urshifu-formes Urshifu-S, Choice Band Victini, and Choice Specs Hydreigon have no problem dealing with Zapdos.

Tapu Koko can notably get Dragon-types like Mega Altaria and Kommo-o with Dazzling Gleam while Alolan Raichu can beat Poison-types like Mega Venusaur and Nihilego with Psychic. Magnezone can get rid of Ice-types that threaten Zapdos like Kyurem and Weavile with Flash Cannon while in return, Zapdos can switch into Fighting-types like Mega Gallade and Hawlucha that will OHKO Magnezone. Alolan Golem also helps Zapdos with Ice-types like Alolan Ninetales and Weavile with its Rock-type STAB-attacks and is Electric's best Stealth Rock setter to have. Rotom-W forms a defensive core with Zapdos and provides Will-O-Wisp support to cripple physical attacks while together pivoting teammates in with Volt Switch. It can also switch into threatening Fire- and Water-types like Victini, Greninja, and Urshifu-R. Rotom-C is a nice special attacker that deals with Ground/Water Pokemon like Gastrodon and Seismitoad that Zapdos has a hard time getting rid of. Regieleki is a powerful wallbreaker with Choice Specs and is a beast in Electric Terrain that can outspeed threats like Latios and Volcarona. Both Rotom-W and Rotom-C provide a secondary Ground immunity but aren't reliable checks to Mold Breaker Excadrill.

[SET COMMENTS]
Toxic is required to beat Ground-type Pokemon that are unaffected by Discharge like Hippowdon, Seismitoad, and Gastrodon along with opposing walls and bulky Pokemon Mega Latias and Porygon2. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Zapdos to become unaffected by Stealth Rock while Leftovers helps Zapdos recover behind Substitute. Pressure helps stall out moves with low PP like Stone Edge, Diamond Storm, and Hydro Pump. Maximum EVs in Speed with a Jolly nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like both Urshifu forms and Tapu Lele while 248 HP EVs are used over 252 HP EVs to allow it to setup 4 Substitutes and increase its overall bulk.

Magnezone traps and kills eliminates [Don't use kills in analyses] Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Jirachi [Mention Excadrill here too, it's a very important example; make sure to specify Air Balloon Magnezone when talking about it] with Hidden Power Fire and Body Press that Zapdos cannot damage along with while also hitting Ice- and Fairy-type Pokemon like Mamoswine and Tapu Bulu with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus-I help with Dark-, Ice-, Rock-types like Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar, and notable defensive Normal-types like Blissey and Porygon2 with Close Combat and the latter with Superpower. [Focus on Z-Bounce Zeraora here; it can eliminate Grass-types like Mega Venusaur, Tapu Bulu, and Ferrothorn with Close Combat which is extremely helpful for Zapdos] Zapdos appreciates Rotom-W pivoting it in safely with Volt Switch, spreading status with Will-O-Wisp and Toxic, hitting Ground- and Rock-types like Nidoking and Landorus-T with Hydro Pump, and providing an additional Ground-immunity thanks to Levitate. It's also able to switch into Fire- and Water-types like Cinderace and Greninja.

Zapdos is a great offensive option on Electric-teams because of its high Special Attack enhanced by Choice Specs, which allows it to serve as an effective wallbreaker and offensive pivot. Hurricane is amazing because it gives Electric a way to effectively hit bulky Grass-types like Mega Venusaur, Rillaboom, and Cradily, which can be an overall difficult matchup [Add that it's also useful against Dragon-types]. Heat Wave allows it to take on Ice-, Steel-, and Grass-types such as Glastrier, Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor. Hidden Power Ice allows Zapdos to hit Dragon- and Ground-types like Dragonite, Garchomp, and Landorus effectively that otherwise resists Heat Wave and its Electric STAB moves. Choice Specs increases the power of all of Zapdos's moves, allowing it to be a powerful wallbreaker alongside its base 125 Special Attack. Maximum EVs in Speed and Special Attack with a Timid nature allows Zapdos to be as strong and as fast as possible, outpacing Pokemon like Jolly Heatran and both Urshifu forms.

Choice Specs Zapdos doesn't run Roost normally so using Rotom-W as an entry hazard remover with Defog over Pain Split is more favorable. Rotom-W alongside Zapdos forms a Ground immunity core, acts as an Ice-type resist, and notably helps with Fire- and Ground-types like Heatran and Mamoswine with Hydro Pump. Magnezone is a nice Fairy resist that deals with Ice- and Rock-types like Mamoswine, Kyurem, and Mega Diancie that threaten Zapdos with Flash Cannon. Zeraora and Thundurus-I can check Normal-, Dark-, Ice-, Rock-types like Porygon2, Blissey, Weavile, Mamoswine, and Tyranitar with their respective Fighting-type attacks. Tapu Koko and Alolan Raichu are great offensive options and because of their high speed, they can check faster threats like Mega Diancie and Dragapult [Dragapult is banned; find another example] while Zapdos can generate momentum and bring them in with Volt Switch.

Heat Wave can be used over Toxic on its SubToxic set as it allows Zapdos to hit Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Hurricane is an option over Defog on its Support set to hit Mega Venusaur to improve the Grass matchup. Roost is an option on its Choice Specs set to give it more longevity throughout the match [Mention the downsides of being Choice locked into Roost].

Checks and Counters
===================
**Dragon-Types**: Dragon-type Pokemon like Latios and Mega Altaria resists Zapdos's Discharge and Heat Wave and can recover the damage off with Recover or Roost. [Mention that Dragon-types like Garchomp, Mega Altaria, and Kommo-o don't like dealing with Choice Specs Hurricane]

**Defensive-Pokemon**: Defensive Pokemon like Blissey, Porygon2, and Mega Venusaur can recover with Soft-Boiled, Recovery, and Synthesis, respectively, which makes it hard for Zapdos to get rid of.

**Wallbreakers**: Wallbreakers like Choice Band Urshifu-S, Choice Band Victini, and Choice Specs Hydreigon have no problem dealing with Zapdos.

Zapdos is one of the best defensive Pokemon for Electric teams due to its ability to deal with Ground- and Grass-types like Excadrill, Landorus-T, Rillaboom, and Tapu Bulu with its Flying typing, provide Defog support to remove entry hazards, and reliably recovery keep itself healthy with Roost. Its able to come in and not be affected by Stealth Rock as long as Heavy-Duty Boots is intact and can clear entry hazards with Defog and use Roost to maintain its longevity. Volt Switch and Discharge are Zapdos's STAB attacks whereas the former pivots is used to pivot teammates in and the latter,(AC) whereas Discharge is used to spread paralysis on Pokemon like Latias and Mega Venusaur,(AC) which are threats to Electric teams. Heat Wave is required for Zapdos to damage common Steel- and Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Zapdos's two abilities in Pressure and Static are very useful; the former allows it Pressure allows Zapdos to stall out defensive Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Toxapex, and Mew, and the latter Static allows it to potentially paralyze Pokemon that tend to use contact moves like Victini, Tapu Bulu, and Mega Lopunny. 80 Speed EVs with a Timid nature allow Zapdos to outpace Pokemon like Diggersby, Tapu Bulu, and Bisharp, while 252 HP and 176 Defensive Defense EVs allows allow it to take on physical attacks attackers like Rock Slide Excadrill and Waterfall Mega Swampert.

Zapdos's unique speed Speed tier and decent bulk allow it to function well with a SubToxic set while also being a crucial Ground-type immunity thanks to its Flying-(RH)typing. Substitute allows Zapdos to avoid being affected by status ailments like Toxic and Will-O-Wisp poison and burn from Pokemon like Mega Sableye and Ferrothorn if you want to highlight especifically those two moves from those two pokemon, use "status moves like..." while also co-ordinating coordinating (not wrong, but coordinating is more common) well with Pressure and recovering with Roost to increase longevity. Heat Wave can be used over Toxic on its Zapdos's SubToxic set as it allows Zapdos to hit Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Rillaboom, and Mega Scizor. Hurricane is an option over Defog on its Support set to hit Mega Venusaur to improve the Grass matchup. Roost is an option on its Choice Specs set to give it Zapdos more longevity throughout the match. The downside of this is losing momentum as it wastes a turn recovering while also being locked into that move. wasting a turn recovering and being Choice-locked into a passive move.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dragon-Types types**: Dragon-type Pokemon like Latios and Mega Altaria resists resist Zapdos's Discharge and Heat Wave and can recover the damage off with Recover or Roost. However, they do not like dealing with Hurricane from Choice Specs Zapdos.

**Defensive-Pokemon Walls**: Defensive Pokemon like Blissey, Porygon2, and Mega Venusaur can recover with Soft-Boiled, Recovery Recover, and Synthesis, respectively, which makes it them hard for Zapdos to get rid of.

**Stallbreakers**: Zapdos is unable to recover with Roost, get rid of entry hazards, or use Toxic if it gets taunted by Pokemon like Hydreigon, Mew, and Gliscor.
