Set Description
=============
Substitute and Roost help Zapdos stall and securely decrease the foe's PP. Thunderbolt is appreciated for Encore users like Primarina and Togekiss. Toxic, however, remains extremely useful and is needed on some teams to defeat Calm Mind users such as Necrozma, Stored Power Cresselia, and Unaware Clefable that break through Zapdos otherwise.

Agility is preferred to have a cleaner matchup versus Regieleki and Zeraora, though this moveslot is more situational. Heat Wave can win against Ferrothorn, Kartana, and Genesect while also dealing super effective damage to threats such as Taunt Rillaboom and Metal Sound Magnezone. Hurricane can be used to deal with Urshifu-S but is unreliable and comes at the cost of having a shakier matchup versus Regieleki. Maranga Berry is main item for Zapdos to help it wall special attackers such as Necrozma and non-Choice Specs Sylveon reliably.

EVs
=============
56 Speed EVs are used to outspeed Regieleki at +2, giving Agility sets a reliable matchup against it. This Speed tier also allows Zapdos to outspeed Adamant Dracozolt and Dracovish.

The Special Defense investment along with a Calm nature allows Zapdos to live a Choice Specs Thunder from Regieleki as well as tanking a Hydro Cannon from Custap Berry Primarina. The rest of the EVs go into Defense to maximize physical bulk.

Usage Tips
=============
In most cases, Zapdos will be clicking Substitute turn one to quickly start stalling and block any status moves from the likes of SubSeed Rillaboom and Galarian Corsola. Against locking moves such as Outrage, you should keep clicking Substitute until the move ends and then use Roost when the foe gets confused.

Zapdos should use Thunderbolt instead of Substitute turn one against Encore users like Primarina and Togekiss, Trick users, and faster Taunt users like Tapu Fini. Against Pokemon like Regieleki and Zeraora, it is best to use Agility turn one to outspeed them on turn two, letting you click Roost and Substitute to PP stall them out.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Other options for Zapdos include running Leftovers over Maranga Berry for passive recovery and PP stalling alongside Roost, or something that exerts more offensive pressure such as the niche Choice Specs or Assault Vest. The Choice Specs set runs a faster EV spread of 220 HP / 12 Def / 24 SpA / 252 Spe with a Timid nature that lets it tank a Modest Choice Specs Draco Meteor from Dragapult and OHKO Haxorus with Hurricane. Its moveset consists of Thunder, Hurricane, Thunderbolt for a more accurate STAB move, and Heat Wave for coverage against Genesect and Ferrothorn. This set does lose to Disable users such as Spectrier and Pokemon with Sturdy such as Magnezone and Aggron, which the Maranga Berry set can win against.

The Assault Vest set has an EV spread of 252 HP / 40 Def / 104 SpA / 16 SpD / 96 Spe with a Modest nature and the moves Heat Wave, Hurricane, Thunderbolt, and Ancient Power. The HP and Special Defense investments are for Choice Specs Necrozma, whereas the Defense investment guarantees the matchup versus bulky Urshifu-S if Hurricane hits; Thunderbolt can be used against Urshifu-R. The Speed investment allows you to outspeed bulkier sets for both Urshifu formes.

Set Description
=============
Zapdos has always been a prominent force but even more so in 1v1 due to its ability in pressure that doubles PP usage, justifying it as a major component in the stall aspect of the current metagame alongside other pressure users, notably Corviknight and Raikou (Neither Corviknight nor Raikou is particularly popular right now, if you wanted to mention pressure users I'd go with Suicune and Kyurem but honestly there's no major need to mention other Pressure mons here). In earlier generations the main item of choice for Zapdos was almost always leftovers (This is irrelevant: talk about what is currently good aka maranga) as passive recovery is a must, though the rise of berries are an interesting prospect for it as it can effectively use the maranga berry to bolster its naturally bulky special defense stat even further making it a force to be reckoned with.

For moves SubRoost is Substitute and Roost are heavily appreciated as it builds on Zapdos' nature as a staller stall pokemon and it can run toxic in the third slot to better its stalling capabilities ('Stalling capabilities' are not a goal in themselves: mention pokemon that you beat with toxic but not without it). Although toxic is a great option for a dedicated stall Zapdos', Thunderbolt is also appreciated for encore users such as Primarina and Togekiss, it also deals super effective damage to most of its hard stall counters such as the ones listed above (Primarina and togekiss are stall counters BECAUSE they have encore/trick, don't mention them twice). The fourth moveslot is more situational and is usually Agility to have a cleaner matchup versus Regieleki and Zeraora.

EVs
=============
Essentially this set aims to have a better reliable ('Better' makes it sound like you're still facing shaky odds, while you are a hard counter) matchup against Regieleki as the 56 Speed EVs on this set are used to outspeed Regieleki at +2 (Move the mention of outspeeding adamant Dracozolt and Dracovish here), if running agility in the fourth moveslot and the SpD investment with the calm nature allows Zapdos to live a specs thunder and thunderbolt (If you live Thunder you live Thunderbolt, which is an uncommon move anyway) from Regieleki as well as live a hydro cannon from custap Primarina. This speed tier also allows it to outspeed adamant Dracozolt and Dracovish.
The rest of the EVs go into defense to maximize physical bulk.

Usage Tips
=============
In most cases, Zapdos will be clicking substitute turn 1 to start stalling from the very beginning and block any status that opponent may have, like toxic, leech seed etc, then either click toxic (if running Toxic) or roost depending on the matchup - if the opponent is a steel type such as Genesect or Heatran, it is usually better to use SubRoost to stall them out instead of relying on thunderbolt for damage. (This is just blatantly incorrect, if you can safely get a Thunderbolt in between substitutes and roosts you should, whether or not the opponent is a steel-type is irrelevant)

There are some cases where zapdos should not click substitute which is against slower encore/disable (Neither of those pokemon learns disable, and even if they did Zapdos wouldn't be afraid of it.) users, i.e. Custap (Why specify custap here? All kinds of primarinas run Encore) Primarina, Togekiss. Here the Zapdos player should click thunderbolt for guaranteed STAB and/or super effective damage and countering Encore, Trick, and faster Taunt users, like... .

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
(Other options are not for anything listed in the main set, like Hurricane and Heat Wave are, but for completely different sets that are usually not worth using over the main set. In Zapdos's case, this will probably be Choice Specs, which is generally worse than regular Zapdos but performs better in some other cases)

With its vast movepool Zapdos can choose to run a secondary attacking move, namely heat wave or hurricane. Heat Wave can secure KO's against Ferrothorn, Kartana and non occa Genesect (Occa Genesect still tends to lose to Zapdos, so maybe rewrite the sentence to be about winning rather than OHKOing and just mention Genesect as a whole), while also dealing super effective damage to grass types such as Rillaboom and other steel types such as Magnezone (Does that matter? What are those pokemon going to do to you? Specify Taunt Rillaboom and Metal Sound Magnezone). Hurricane is also considerable as it offers a strong flying STAB that can deal with the common leech seed stallers - Venusaur and Whimsicott and secure the matchup. (This is incorrect. Venusaur is faster and uses Sleep Powder, while Whimsicott can simply spam substitute until you miss a Hurricane, or even tank one depending on its special defense. Hurricane is mostly useful for Urshifu-Single) Although this does come at the cost of having a shakier matchup versus Regieleki.

Please implement this and contact me on discord (or just post here in the thread). There's still some other things that I'm not sure about but this is a good start.

Either leave this bit out or rewrite). Toxic, however remains extremely useful and is needed on some teams to defeat Calm Mind users (Like?) often stacking up boosts with it and pressuring Zapdos' Substitute before roost is necessary. Even with minimal bulk (your bulk isn't minimal, either talk about 'investment in defenses' or remove this bit. Actually, just give the actual EV spread here, look at other analyses for an example of how to do this), Choice Specs Zapdos has a sizable HP investment that allows it to tank a Modest Choice Specs Draco Meteor from Dragapult and enough SpA investment to OHKO Haxorus with Hurricane. Alright, same colors as before, got a few remarks still but this is looking a lot better! Implement and tag me on discord.

Zapdos has always been a prominent force but even more so in 1v1 due to its ability in pressure that doubles PP usage. (unless your going to tell me what matchups this is helpful with, this is filler.) The main item of choice for Zapdos is the Maranga Berry that can effectively bolster its naturally bulky special defense stat even further making it a force to be reckoned with. This also helps it wall special attackers such as Necrozma and Sylveon reliably. (Combine the two sentences above)

For moves Substitute and Roost are heavily appreciated as they build on Zapdos' nature as a stall pokemon while providing a secure way to decrease the opponents PP. (any specific matchups this is helpful with?) Thunderbolt is appreciated for Encore users like Primarina and Togekiss. Toxic, however remains extremely useful and is needed on some teams to defeat Calm Mind users such as Necrozma (Necrozma can actually beat it one-on-one if it spams Iron Defense alongside Calm Mind so it’s more reliable), Stored Power Cresselia and Unaware Clefable who relies on stacking up boosts with Calm Mind and pressuring Zapdos' Substitute before roost is necessary. The fourth moveslot is more situational and is usually Agility to have a cleaner matchup versus Regieleki and Zeraora. (Is there anything else?)

(Is there a reason why this isn’t in the above paragraph?)With its vast movepool Zapdos can choose to run a secondary attacking move, namely heat wave or hurricane. Heat Wave can win against Ferrothorn, Kartana, and Genesect, while also dealing super effective damage to threats such as Taunt Rillaboom and Metal Sound Magnezone. Hurricane is also considerable as it is useful for dealing with Urshifu-S. (Should be mentioned that it isn’t the most reliable move)Although this does come at the cost of having a shakier matchup versus Regieleki.

The SpD investment with the Calm nature allows Zapdos to live a Choice Specs Thunder from Regieleki as well as tank a Hydro Cannon from Custap Berry Primarina. The rest of the EVs go into defense to maximize physical bulk.
- Perhaps another EV spread for when u are not using Agility? (I’ll get back to you on this)

matchups where I need to Substitute twice and Roost.

- When do I need to use Agility?

- There’s quite a lot of padding here, I would fix this before I look over this again.

Agility is preferred to have a cleaner matchup versus Regieleki and Zeraora, though this moveslot is more situational. Other options for Zapdos can be running items like include running Leftovers over Maranga Berry for passive recovery and PP stalling alongside Roost, (AC) or something that exerts more offensive pressure such as the niche Choice Specs or Assault Vest sets. The Choice Specs set sacrifices most of its bulk for Speed and HP with the moveset consisting of Thunder and Hurricane being its main STAB moves,Thunderbolt for more accurate STAB Assault Vest.

With an EV spread of 220 HP / 12 Def / 24 SpA / 252 Spe and a Timid nature, Choice Specs Zapdos has a sizable HP investment that allows it to tank a Modest Choice Specs Draco Meteor from Dragapult and enough Special Attack investment to OHKO Haxorus with Hurricane. This set does lose to Disable users such as Spectrier and Pokemon with Sturdy such as Magnezone and Aggron which the Maranga Stall set can win against.

The Assault Vest set has an EV spread of 252 HP / 40 Def / 104 SpA / 16 SpD / 96 Spe with a Modest nature and the moves Heat Wave, Hurricane, Thunderbolt, and Ancient Power. The HP and Special Defense investments are for Choice Specs Necrozma, (AC) whereas the Def Defense investment guarantees the matchup versus bulky Urshifu-S (RC) if you land Hurricane hits; Thunderbolt can be used for against Urshifu-R. The Speed investment allows you to outspeed bulkier sets for both Urshifu formes.
