[OVERVIEW]
  • One of the most reliable setters of Tailwind
  • Decent offensive matchups without needing much investment, being able to take on Tapu Fini, Genesect, Tapu Bulu, Landorus-T, and Volcanion depending on its coverage move of choice
  • Bulky and can reliably stay healthy due to recovery through Roost
  • Good synergy with all Terrain setters aside from Tapu Koko, which is especially useful in a metagame so dominated by the Island Guardians
    • Even performs well with Terrain-activated Seeds
  • Can be somewhat passive, walled by certain threats without the right coverage move
  • Best items tend to be one-time use, which isn't ideal for a Pokemon that's useful throughout the match
[SET]
name: Bulky Speed Control
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Heat Wave / Hidden Power Ice
move 3: Tailwind
move 4: Roost
item: Wiki Berry / Misty Seed / Psychic Seed
ability: Static
nature: Calm
evs: 236 HP / 88 Def / 64 SpA / 56 SpD / 64 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Thunderbolt best STAB, does decent damage to chip targets into range of Zapdos's teammates
  • Heat Wave provides spread damage and coverage for Ferrothorn, Kartana, and Genesect
  • Hidden Power Ice hits Landorus-T and Zygarde far harder than any other move, also retaining okay damage on Amoonguss and Tapu Bulu
  • Tailwind helps Zapdos's whole team
  • Roost restores Zapdos's health and works well with Tailwind by letting it remove its Flying-type to Roost off damage before shrugging off an otherwise super effective move like Kyurem-B's Ice Beam
Set Details
========
  • Static to threaten contact attackers with a potential paralysis
  • Wiki Berry nice for automatic healing, especially if activated by Stealth Rock
  • Terrain seed activated immediately by teammate, makes Zapdos considerably bulkier from the jump
  • Given spread:
    • Takes Tapu Koko Z-Thunerbolt in Electric Terrain
    • Avoids 2HKO from unboosted Zygarde Thousand Arrows (one neutral, one super effective)
    • Outspeeds all relevant Choice Scarf users under Tailwind and all Pelipper without Tailwind
    • dump in SpA
  • If using a terrain Seed: 244 HP / 84 Def / 24 SpA / 92 SpD / 64 Spe; Modest nature
    • Takes Mega Metagross Ice Punch even after Stealth Rock
    • Takes <50% from Assault Vest Kyurem-B Ice Beam after Seed boost
    • Outspeeds all relevant Choice Scarf users under Tailwind and all Mega Scizor without Tailwind
Usage Tips
========
  • Setting Tailwind is often important for Zapdos's teammates, but don't see it as essential; it's often more useful for Zapdos to attack immediately
  • Iapapa sets can pivot much more freely, Seed sets should be careful of when to take most advantage of the SpD boost
  • Don't be afraid to switch out a SpD-boosted Zapdos; this set can still be valuable without a Seed bonus and shouldn't stay on the field if it's in a passive or otherwise disadvantageous position
    • Generally useful throughout the game, should be kept healthy and not used as a simple vessel for Tailwind once
  • Roost can be used to help Zapdos stall out turns against would-be offensive counters like Tyranitar and Kyurem-B, giving its teammates time to take out the threats while it shrugs off the now neutral attacks
  • Avoid pivoting too recklessly with Zapdos if the opponent sets Stealth Rock, as the added damage greatly cuts into Zapdos's longevity
Team Options
========
  • Middling-speed breakers that appreciate Tailwind (Kyurem-B, Genesect, Tapu Bulu, Hoopa-U, Tapu Lele)
  • Terrain setters to activate Seeds (Tapu Fini, Tapu Lele)
  • Something to take out Tyranitar / Kyurem-B (Kartana, Mega Metagross)
  • Something to cover Landorus-T and Zygarde if using Heat Wave (Tapu Fini, Tapu Bulu, Kyurem-B, Landorus-T)
  • Something to cover Ferrothorn / Genesect if using Hidden Power Ice (Volcanion, Incineroar, Kommo-o)
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Whirlwind
  • Protect > Roost on pinch berry sets
  • Electrium Z, also often with Protect
  • Volt Switch
  • Thunder on rain teams, sometimes with Electrium Z
Checks and Counters
===================

**Dragon-types**: Kyurem-B hurts, Kommo-o sets up

**Rock-types**: Stakataka, Tyranitar, Mega Tyranitar

**Ground-types**: Zygarde and Landorus-T win 1v1 if Zapdos drops HP Ice

**Electric-types**: Tapu Koko has Taunt, Zeraora absorbs Tbolt

**Stealth Rock**: Forces Roost more often

**Opposing Speed Control**: Can invalidate a large part of Zapdos' role

[OVERVIEW]
  • Good synergy with all Terrain setters aside from Tapu Koko, which is especially useful in a metagame so dominated by the Island Guardians - You can touch on how good Zap is with a terrain seed here too, as you cover the downsides of seed two bullets down
Set Details
========
  • Should probably have Wiki > Iapapa berry, good for the rare instances the berry is stolen by Scizor, Mago is also an option for getting Spider or TR hoopa
Usage Tips
========
  • Setting Tailwind is often important for Zapdos's teammates, but don't see it as essential; it's often more useful for Zapdos to attack immediately - probably good to mention that setting tailwind is going to be useful throughout a match, dont use zapdos as a suicide tailwinder (although its too bulky to even do that most of the time)
  • Probably important to mention how it functions as a lead, which ties into my "dont use as suicide tailwind" point from earlier, i think its important to drive home that zapdos needs to be alive as long as possible usually
Team Options
========
  • Something to cover Ferrothorn / Genesect if using Hidden Power Ice (Volcanion, Incineroar, Kommo-o) - does kommo o need a mention here? i dont think of kommo o as a gene check really but i guess it checks ferro (bulletproof especially)
  • Worth mentioning something to deal with opposing Electrics like Koko and Mega Mane

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Volt Switch - I really don't know about this one, i very rarely see it and don't think it's very good, you usually aren't pivoting Zapdos offensively
Checks and Counters
===================

You could probably make the Kyube tag just Dragon-types, as Kommo-o sets up on any Zapdos not carrying whirlwind
Electric-types? Koko can sit in front of Zapdos all day and even taunt it to prevent a tailwind

Implemented, not sure about adding Electric-type checks to Team Options because that feels more like a general team checklist thing than a specific weakness you need to cover for Zapdos. It's not an offensive breaker that struggles to get past them and can usually perform its role even against Mega Mane or something.
