  1. Unpopular opinions

I agree that they should be mini-dungeons of some sort, but what exactly that means in Pokémon is pretty vague. The series has never had great ways of interacting with the actual environment (HM blockades like Cut/Strength/Rock Smash are about it, and of those, there's only potential puzzle...
  2. Unpopular opinions

When leaks were coming out, the portraits we had of the Gym Leaders were pretty disappointing, but I ended up liking most of them. Going from a character perspective, Tulip probably is the weakest, but that puts her about on par with the best of the XY Gym Leaders (the weakest set of them in the...
  3. Pokémon Movepool Oddities & Explanations

I hate to be "that guy," but Electivire does get Flamethrower. It's been able to learn it since Gen 4, actually! Magmar and Electabuzz can't learn Thunderbolt/Flamethrower respectively, but they can learn Thunder Punch/Fire Punch.
  4. Pokémon Movepool Oddities & Explanations

Given the flavor, I think Thunder specifically would be better thematically. Ignore the wording in the article; any release of electrical charge is a "discharge."
  5. (Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Rocky Helmet having a stronger effect than Rough Skin/Iron Barbs annoys me. I can't think of any other case where an item is more powerful than an ability with the same effect.
  6. Pokemon Masters

He can, but it's with his EX role (at which point the opposing team will probably be dead, or very close to it)
  7. (Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Not entirely, mostly because of Meowth, and of course there's nothing stopping them from adding another regional form of a Pokémon that already has one again. And the concept in general looks to the future for if/when they add more regionals. (Posted too early, oops) I definitely thought about...
  8. (Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Don't forget, this would also apply to, say, getting a Kantonian Mr. Mime in Galar (if this functionality existed). The concept is to make these forms more accessible without adding even more items. Fair point about curry/Hisui, though.
  9. (Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Regional forms are a future-proofing nightmare and I actually really hope they don't add special stones to force regional evolutions. ...a fun compromise would be to feed them the appropriate regional treat, maybe?
  10. Pokémon Movepool Oddities & Explanations

If it wasn't for the push to make raising Pokémon for VGC/other competitive formats more accessible, I'd be way more on-board with limited TMs again. I think that's the main reason why we even get the ability to get infinite TMs (or why they were even made infinite in the first place). I guess...
  11. Pokémon Movepool Oddities & Explanations

In addition to being a mid-ground between single-use and infinite TMs, crafting TMs is a way to make players engage with the world more. It's not my favorite thing but it serves its purpose. It would be a lot worse if autobattling didn't exist. My main gripe with it is actually the absurd...
  12. Unpopular opinions

BDSP's HM implementation felt so bad to me and I'm not entirely sure why. Letting you use field moves after a certain point in the game is standard HM implementation, so that was fine. I think it's partially that they felt just like a waste of time with the animation of a random Bibarel popping...
  13. Unpopular opinions

I am actually vehemently opposed to wild Pokémon scaling because, while it is certainly convenient that the player always starts where the region's weakest Pokémon reside, I'd rather take that concession than have the whole ecosystem gradually get stronger and more deadly the stronger the player...
  14. Unpopular opinions

Lol this took so long to type out and I lost a chunk of my response at one point. Oops. I'll agree with this idea (that it becomes increasingly hard to flesh out a game the bigger and more open you make it) at its basic level, but I have to disagree with various points you bring up here...
  15. Unpopular opinions

I feel like the extent to which open-world exploration (I'm using this term because defining what makes a game "open world" is contentious) is good for a game, or a franchise, depends on how hard the developers want to define how players experience that game's story. I think it also depends on...
