Honestly, heat wave is better in OU. There's so many steels out there that wall you without Heat Wave, such as Ferro and Jirachi.

Blastoise can spin and has a superior defensive typing to Cress, as well as access to Scald.

Hmm great points, waterwarrior. Heat Wave is definitely an advantage over Raikou and Jolteon, as well as banging up even Jirachi, and may be equally useful as the tying in Speed with Starmie or higher.
Rash Raikou with Aura Sphere may be better if you're looking for a slow wallbreaker - hits Jirachi and Ferrothorn just as hard, while hitting Ttar for good damage (Max HP / Max SDef Tar is OHKOed without SR 53% of the time).
I'd be more inclined to say Gastrodon is OU purely because of Rain.
I can't think of why it would be used for anything else. Quagsire does everything else better. And Swampert does most things better.
Frankly, it's another symptom of the over-centralisation rain is causing. An RU pokemon leaping to OU in two months? PURELY to check rain? It's not even low OU right now, it's mid.
In comparison, Porygon 2, who was used to check Salamence in 4th gen but also checked Jolteon, Heatran and Gyarados at the same time, four other big threats, never even made it to OU, and Mence turned out Uber.
Maybe that comparison should show how much Gastrodon's jump shows Drizzle is the Whale in the Room.
Also, please stop calling Gastodon OU. He was so low down in May and June, that he's probobly staying RU this teir shuffle.
First off, Gastrodon has the stats, I am going to call it OU all I want.
Also, Gastrodon is an over reaction to 3 big problems to teams, by useage too:
-Rotom-W
-Drizzle Teams
-Thundurus
So it was a lot more utility then Smampert and Quagsire which can not wall Rotom-W. Rotom-W + Scizor can be an annoying problem for a lot of teams, guess what? Gastrodon puts a total and complete stop to that, Quagsire and Swampert can never stay that.
Also there are are easier ways to deal with hyper offensive rain teams then Gastrodon; Ferrothorn, Celebi, Jellicent, and Blissey just to name some easy counters. Gastrodon is a decent rain counter, but not the BEST ONE. But, Gastrodon is infact a great choice for teams with problems with Rotom-W, drizzle teams, and Thundurus, not just drizzle.
Re-wrote the scripts, and I'm rerunning them now to generate stats for six-poke-only teams.

By definition, if a character has 0 usage in the two previous months of stats and anything 4.1% or above in the current month, it is automatically OU. Gastro had 5.2% usage this month (and more than 0 in may and june), and that isnt even including all usages, so yes, gastrodon is certainly OU this month.
One pokemon having a jump in usage because people realize he does a good job checking some huge threat does not an overcentralization argument make.
(if you really wanted to prove that OU is shrinking because of overcentralization, youd wait for updated stats more comparable to may/june and calculate the percentage of usage that OU takes up; it almost certainly is larger and therefore more centralized (not overcentralized, thats not even a word) than previous months)

The point of this thread IS EXACTLY to determine what pokemon will be allowed in the lower tiers. As it stands (before I issue some revised stats later today), in the balance are Venusaur, Swampert, Chandelure, Mienshao, and Hippowdon, and whether they get to come on down to play in UU (I haven't looked at the UU/RU cutoff yet).
Here is what the usage stats look like if we only count teams where all six pokemon are seen. Note that 55% of teams are represented (lower than I was expecting...).
Need to do some further analysis to see how this changes things, but at a glance, Venusaur, Swampert, Mienshao, Swampert, and Metagross get bumped up to OU. There's some minor jostling, for sure, but by and large, it looks like (again, at first glance), that this is pretty similar to "multiply the original stuff by 1.17" results.

tbh those stats look completely reasonable. Antar if you really think that this is the best possible course for us to take please make a thread in PR. IMO we should combine the above stats with those from May and June to create the usage tier stats.

That's what I'm waiting on before I make the thread.
The script looks at pokemon per TEAM, not pokemon per BATTLE and counts TEAMS. So I got this covered.

At stake are:

To be honest i'm not shocked with hippo slipping in usage the only thing it has over t-tar is being a check to unboosted excadrill and not being weak to fighting but t-tar had pretty much better overall utility over hippo even in gen 4 so it's probably just a case of hippo's few good traits just aren't enough to keep it up to pace as well has losing quite easily to other weather starters even ninetales if it lacks ice fang to pop air balloon holding ones.
Just dropping by to let you know that Blue Kirby is fine with using a modified server. I'll definitely be done with it by the end of this week, so we should be able to get detailed stats (including moveset and teammate data) starting from October !

Doesn't only using usage stats from teams where all six pokemon are used actually over-represent losing teams? By definition, a team that loses other than a forfeit has always played six pokemon, while a winning team can theoretically show anywhere between one and six.
Only looking at teams that played all six may also have the effect of over-representing pokemon on balance/stall teams that do more switching and are more likely to show the whole team during a battle as opposed to offensive teams that try to set up for one big sweep. Ferrothorn jumping from 5 to 2 between the two lists in particular caught my eye.
Other than that, fabulous work on the stats Antar! I know everyone really appreciates what you're doing.

So--remind me now--what exactly will the modified server be doing differently? Is it solely focusing on the logs, still?
Besides battle logs (which will stay exactly the same), the modified server will also write data dumps containing every relevant information : player ratings, team composition and complete movesets with nature and EVs. With this, we'll be able to generate pretty much whatever kind of statistic we want.
Very insightful. I made sure to mention that point in the PR thread. But considering that the Maestro method and the Full Team method agree so well on the line between OU and UU, it doesn't look like it made a huge difference (the great thing about rated battles is that, at least in theory, you should be going against people of similar rating to yourself, so you should--ideally--be losing as much as you're winning).
Could you at least include the full team in the battle logs?
This is fantastic. I can't wait to get a chance to dig into this stuff.
