[WIN] Eye of the Storm (Hard) – Its_A_Random and zarator

Engineer Pikachu

Good morning, you bastards!
is a Contributor Alumnus
You arrive near the gate when the sun is already high in the sky. There seems to be a lot of movement in the quarters, with guards making haste from the courtyard to the barbican, warding the path leading to the top of the mountain. Suddenly, one of them spots you and runs to you quickly.

"Hail, trainers. We were waiting for you. Please, this way." You follow uncertain the man up to the stone building close to the gate and wait as he knocks the door repeatedly. "The trainers are here, sir!" he says excitedly to the person on the other side of the door. Shortly after, what appears to be some kind of officer or commander opens the door and greets you warmly. "Welcome, trainers. The Champion is over there."

Near a rough wooden table, Lance appears to have been discussing a map with a woman with blue hair and a fluid black cloak, but both turn their attention to you as soon as you enter the quarters. "You've come at the right time, trainers," says the champion with a smile. "We're planning our operation on the summit of Stormrage Mountain - ah, allow me to introduce you to Clair. She will lead this expedition." Once mentioned, you now recognize her as the Gym Leader of Blackthorn town.

"Nice to meet you, trainers," greets the woman. "But we don't have time for presentations. The hour has come to reach the top of the mountain and put an end to this crisis."
"Well said, Clair." agrees Lance. "You must leave as soon as possible. How many guards do you need to bring with you?"
"None," replies the gym leader. "We can't afford to weaken our already scarce presence here. These two trainers and I will be more than enough."
"Very well, then," concludes the champion. "Good luck, guys,"
Clair nods and then turns her eyes on you. "Let's go!"

The path slowly rises in circles, following the shape of the mountain. Strangely, the weather is really calm, more than it ever has been since your arrival at Stormrage Mountain. It does not take more than an hour before you reach the summit. "There we are", says Clair, looking around. "This is the highest echelon of the mountain". This rather large plateau is surrounded by several sharp peaks, but all in all it looks pretty barren. You wonder if what you're looking for is actually here or not. Even the gym leaders appears to be quite surprised.

"That's strange," comments Clair perplexed. "Maybe the legendary birds were the only cause for the altered weather?"
"Unlikely," says one of you. "From what Lance said, while the mountain is calmer now, the surrounding regions are still affected by violent storms"
"You're right," she agrees. "I guess that, although inactive at the moment for some reason, the cause for the wild weather must lie somewhere around here".
"Superbly correct, milady".
The sudden, deep and cold voice cause you and Clair to turn around. A blonde man with an odd red eyeglass is slowly walking towards you, dressed in an ancient regal robe. You find his face familiar, but you can't recognize him. The same can't be said for Clair. "Ghetsis!"
"Welcome, vanguards of the New Dawn," says the sage. "That's what you're called, isn't it?"
"You had been missing for ten years!" replies Clair astonished. "Why are you here?"
"The wheels of fate already started to spin again," explains Ghetsis, with a wide gesture of the arm. "The time for the Great Renewal is approaching. It is all part of the plan."
"You're completely mad," comments the gym leader. "What are you babbling about?"
"It is not necessary for you to know anymore. I am only a pawn, like Mewtwo," answers the man. "Whatever happens here matters little."
"Mewtwo?" repeats Clair. "Is he involved? That's impossible! This entire story is preposterous!"
"If you can't believe my words, how will you understand what your eyes are going to see?" asks Ghetsis, taking a strange wand from his robe and raising it above his head. The clouds above the mountain started to rumble menacingly. Then, two giant shades became slowly visible through the mist until they broke through the cloudscape.
Clair stares in fear at the sight of the two majestic birds, and so you do. "The might of elements... the means to cleanse this world for the Great Renewal", says Ghetsis ecstatically. "All lies in my hands now... the wheels of fate are spinning before your very eyes!"
"Ghetsis, stop this!", shouts Clair, running towards him with a Poké Ball in her hand. But the sage points the wand towards her and summons a red lightning bolt, which strikes the ground beneath her and knocks her back, beyond the precipice.
"Clair!" you cry, terrified.
"Your fate runs short, trainers," comments Ghetsis with a malicious laugh. "But don't worry, the end of your brethen is just as nigh. Farewell!" And out from nowhere, he disappears in a refulgent burst of red light, leaving you alone to face the two mythical creatures!

Just nitpicking, but Ho-Oh & Lugia should have Rank 8 Sp. Defence since they have Rank 7 Sp. Defence normally.

Delibird will take a Glyph of Roost
Regirock will take a Glyph of Rock Slide
Umbreon will not take a Glyph
Aromatisse will take a Glyph of Light Screen

"Well here we are... With two powerful birds to deal with... This will be fun."

Delibird: [Toggle Hustle ON] Ice Punch (Lugia) > Ice Shard (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act, THEN use Fly (Lugia) that action, pushing actions back.

Regirock: Rock Slide > Smack Down (Ho-Oh)
IF
Ho-Oh is untargetable when you act A1, THEN use Smack Down (Ho-Oh) A1, AND use Rock Slide A2.

Umbreon: Payback (Lugia) > Foul Play (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act, THEN use Curse that action, pushing actions back.

Aromatisse: Light Screen (Glyph) > Moonblast (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act A2, THEN use Chill A2.

For now, I am thinking that Regirock should start to cement threat on Ho-Oh, while Umbreon attempted to begin to cement threat on Lugia (yay Payback drawing more threat). What happens A1 is out of our hands. I reckon that Slowking should start by using Trick Room before firing off a Reflect on Regirock, Umbreon, & probably Golurk, while the other three attack the Lugia. Eelektross should be careful not to paralyse the Lugia, & we also need to be careful not to get someone not named Umbreon threat on Lugia. If there is any other thing I could do differently, do not hesitate to contact me. Oh, & do not forget to equip the items we discussed on IRC! ^_^

We can do this!

Snorlax @ Full Incense
Slowking @ Light Clay
Golurk @ Expert Belt
Eelektross @ Expert Belt

Snorlax: Reflect (Regirock, Umbreon, Golurk) - Strength (Lugia)
Slowking: Trick Room - Nasty Plot
Golurk: [Toggle Klutz] Shadow Punch (Lugia) - Ice Punch (Lugia)
Eelektross: Wild Charge (Lugia) - Volt Switch (Lugia)
If Lugia is untargettable, replace your respective action with Thunder (Lugia)

Round 1

The two legendary birds show no sign of hesitation, as the Lugia blasts Kringles with a beam of ancient energy and the Ho-Oh follows up with a zap of electricity to Grandstone's stony face. The majority of the team goes in for the offensive and attempts to pummel the Lugia with powerful attacks, but its shimmering scales seem to negate a large portion of the damage; meanwhile, Grandstone catches the Ho-Oh's attention with a well-timed shower of boulders. In the back lines, Aromatisse and Bagthru hastily erect protective shields around as many teammates as they can, while Ulutiu performs strange dimension-warping magic that makes everyone's head spin as a side effect. The hailstones speed up and slow down in a mind-boggling fashion, but they all end up pelting the entire battlefield.

With all preparations and necessary protection done, the team continues to attack away, combining strong melee hits with an assortment of projectiles that batter the Lugia rather unceremoniously. On the side, Ulutiu sits back and thinks some nasty thoughts; he certainly isn't pulling his weight yet. The Ho-Oh blasts Grandstone with a rather ineffective burst of fire, while the Lugia glows brightly before suddenly divebombing Umbreon, dealing decent damage.

Abruptly, the hailstorm ceases, and the clouds part to reveal the sun shining mellowly overhead. When you look back down at the ground, though, a gaping black hole seems to have appeared out of nowhere! That could be bad...

Okay so a few things. Glyph of Rock Slide raises its accuracy by 10% & makes it ignore the spread move penalty. Since Regirock has that glyph on as specified in my post... Also the Rank differences are a little bit off. Lugia's Attacks on Umbreon should only have +1.5 for Rank difference since it is Rank 5 vs. Rank 4. Also the gap between Rank 5 & Rank 6 got raised to 1.5 this generation, so Ho-Oh's attacks should deal more damage, while Lugia should take less damage from a few attacks. Delibird's Hustle was specified to toggle on in my action-set so its Physical attacks should be dealing more damage. Foul Play is not a high threat move so Umbreon's Threat should be 13 less if my understanding of threat mechanics is correct. Finally zarator is a noob & forgot to update Snorlax's HP; it is supposed to start with 130 HP.

"That first round was not the most ideal, but we can manage."

Kringles: Thief (Dark Elemental Rift) > Ice Punch (Lugia)

Grandstone: Rock Slide > Smack Down (Lugia)
IF
you are fully paralysed, THEN push actions back.

Umbreon: Assurance (Dark Elemental Rift) > Foul Play (Lugia)

Aromatisse: Aromatherapy > Heal Pulse (Regirock)

Snorlax & Eelektross should Crunch the rift A1, while Golurk uses Thief on the rift, which should surmount to enough damage to seal the rift in one action. From there, those five Pokémon can then resume their efforts & start to deal some noticeable damage to Lugia. Twin Storm does not feel threatening as nothing is weak to it, but we need to be cautious. Catch me on IRC if you want to discuss more.

Engineer Pikachu: Umbreon should have 45 threat, not 58. Slowking should have 25 Threat (15 + 5*2) not 22. Aromatisse should have 24 threat on Lugia, not 15. Also make sure to update threat standings after fixing the mistakes pointed out by IAR :-)

Snorlax: Crunch (Rift) - Strength (Lugia)
If the Rift is KOed when you would act on A1, redirect Crunch on Lugia
Slowking: Scald (Lugia) - Nasty Plot
Golurk: Thief (Rift) - Shadow Punch (Lugia)
Eelektross: Crunch (Rift) - Volt Switch (Lugia)

Round 2

Grandstone tosses another shower of rocks onto the two legendary birds, and Ulutiu follows up with a brief blast of hot water. As Aromatisse cures Grandstone with a waft of healing air, the rest of the team focuses on the strange hole, battering it until it vanishes as suddenly as it had appeared in the first place. This leaves them unprepared for the birds' assaults, however; Ho-Oh blasts Grandstone with a powerful ray of solar energy, and the Lugia picks Umbreon up into the air before throwing him back down to the ground. It's a good thing cats always land on their feet.

While Aromatisse continues to tend to Grandstone's needs, the remainder of the team focuses its attacks onto the Lugia, who roars in outrage. Suddenly, the two birds take high into the air circle overhead, generating ridiculous winds that batter the entire raid team! You close your eyes to protect them from the howling gale, and, when you open them, you find another black void right in front of you! As you struggle to comprehend how these rifts are forming, the clouds in the sky gather around and a downpour begins. One raindrop hits your eye.

Full Incense has that no guard property that allows it to hit through Sky Drop? Also Slowking's SpA should not have decayed this round. Finally Snorlax only has Rank 4 Attack, not Rank 5...

"The worst part is that the damn rifts are immune to Rock Slide... -_-"

Delibird: Ice Shard (Lugia) > Ice Punch (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act, THEN use Fly (Lugia) that action, pushing actions back.

Regirock: Ancient Power (Rock Elemental Rift) > Smack Down (Rock Elemental Rift)
IF
the Rock Elemental Rift is KOed, THEN replace all remaining actions with Rock Slide.

Umbreon: Assurance (Lugia) > Foul Play (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act, THEN use Curse that action, pushing actions back.

Aromatisse: Chill > Heal Pulse (Regirock)

I guess Snorlax is going to spend the round using Rock-type attacks on the Elemental rift likewise Golurk (Rock Tomb > Rollout or Rollout > Rollout I guess?) Slowking is probably going to have to heal Umbreon, while Eelektross deals damage to Lugia. I am not going to risk using Stone Edge on the rifts... This would have been easier if you could actually use Rock Slide on the rifts & deal damage... 9.9

Please remember to fix Slowking's SpA ranks^^

Snorlax: Rock Tomb (Rift) - Belly Drum
Slowking: Power Gem (Rift) - Heal Pulse (Umbreon)
Golurk: Stone Edge (Rift) - Shadow Punch (Lugia)
Eelektross: Wild Charge (Lugia) - Volt Switch (Lugia)

Round 3

The team once more splits up into two groups: one to destroy the black rift and one to keep Lugia occupied. Kringles, Dendar, and Umbreon do a fine job of keeping the Lugia busy, while everybody else launches their rocky attacks on the void. Unfortunately, the damage seems insufficient, as it suddenly emits an eerie pulse that passes through everything except Grandstone harmlessly. Meanwhile, the two legendary birds continue their relentless assault; the Ho-Oh channels the rainy weather to launch a watery orb at Grandstone, while the Lugia too utilizes the rain, but to swipe Umbreon with its powerful tail.

Aromatisse and Ulutiu waste no time healing up Grandstone and Umbreon, both of whom begin to show signs of weakness. Meanwhile, the Regirock launches a rock into the rift, causing it to blink out of existence again. The rest of the squad attacks the Lugia again, except for Bagthru, who hits his rotund stomach a couple times, immediately suffering significant damage and becoming enraged – it has to be some strange tribal ritual of sorts. The Ho-Oh and Lugia don't seem overly concerned about that, however, as they continue to strike their respective targets. You wait a few seconds, and, right on cue, another gaping rift appears out of nowhere!

Rain continues to fall.

"Hooray... At least this situation is somewhat salvageable!"

Delibird: Fake Out (Normal Elemental Rift) > Ice Punch (Lugia)

Regirock: Psych Up (Snorlax) > Rock Slide

Umbreon: Shadow Mend (Regirock) > Assurance (Lugia)
IF
Lugia is untargetable when you act A2, THEN use Chill A2.

Aromatisse: Chill > Heal Pulse (Regirock)

Okay here is what I am thinking. Snorlax should ideally alternate between Headbutt & Tackle for the next three rounds, as it is the most economical Snorlax can get, since we chose the last feasible moment to Belly Drum. Golurk should preferrably use Pound on the rift, & between the ~65 Damage Snorlax can do to the rift, the ~21 from Delibird's Fake Out, & ~18 from Golurk's Pound, the rift should be toasted. It would then be able to do whatever the next action. Slowking should get Reflect up on the two tanks & whatever, & then probably heal Snorlax or Umbreon; keeping our tanks alive is more critical. Meanwhile, Eelektross does whatever. I guess my thoughts are not the most agreeable, but either way, it is definitely going to be slow going for the next 5-7 rounds until Lugia eventually falls; where things start to become a lot easier since we can have three healers on one tank. As usual, come find me on IRC if you have other ideas or something. At least Snorlax can still be salvaged, & the fact that we got a lucky rift roll helps this more.

Snorlax: Tackle (Rift) - Pay Day (Rift)
If the Rift is KOed when you would act, redirect your attack to Lugia
Slowking: Reflect (Regirock, Umbreon, Snorlax) - Scald (Lugia)
Golurk: Mega Punch (Rift) - Shadow Punch (Lugia)
Eelektross: Tackle (Rift) - Volt Switch (Lugia)

Round 4

While Ulutiu bolsters the strength of the fading reflective barriers, Aromatisse takes a well-deserved break and Grandstone synchronizes his strengths with that of Bagthru to get a massive power boost. The rest of the team launches attacks on the gaping rift, managing to close it down fairly quickly. Undeterred, the two legendary birds swoop down on their respective targets and keep attacking.

The battle then briefly turns into a reckless exchange of attacks as nothing is held back on either side; only the spawning of another rift interrupts this. Meanwhile, rain keeps falling, as if erratic weather is not so erratic after all.

You put the +5 Attack on the wrong mon; Regirock used Psych Up on Snorlax, not Golurk.

"Yay for possibly overextending ourselves... And a bird that cannot even roost..."

Delibird: Fly (Flying Elemental Rift) > Bounce (Flying Elemental Rift)

Regirock: Smack Down (Lugia) > Rock Slide

Umbreon: Shadow Mend (Regirock) > Payback (Lugia)
IF
Regirock is untargetable when you act A1, THEN use Payback (Lugia) that action, AND use Shadow Mend (Regirock) A2.
IF Lugia is untargetable when you act A2, THEN use Chill A2.

Aromatisse: Heal Pulse (Umbreon) > Light Screen (Glyph)
IF
Umbreon is untargetable when you act A1, THEN use Chill A1.

As far as possible orders, I am thinking Golurk uses Fly on the rift A1, Eelektross uses Acrobatics A1, Slowking uses Trick Room then Heal Pulse on someone (Probably Delibird), Snorlax uses cheap attacks or something. Yay for movespam penalties... zarator if you see this post within two hours of this being posted, please come on IRC so we can discuss something in detail. IIRC, Delibird Fly + Delibird Bounce + Golurk Fly + Eelektross Acrobatics takes out the rift. In other news, we are running out of energy pretty fast... Yay... -___-

Snorlax: Tackle (Lugia) - Pay Day (Lugia) (yes I do get the CCs like in a normal battle, with the usual cap)
Slowking: Trick Room - Heal Pulse (Umbreon)
Golurk: Fly (Rift) - Shadow Punch (Lugia)
Eelektross: Acrobatics (Rift) - Volt Switch (Lugia)

Round 5

You feel a slight wave of nausea pass over you as the twisted dimensions revert to their normal state, as if an entire atmosphere of pressure has been lifted from your head. The two legendary birds evidently do not, as they waste no time flying up into the air before generating a massive storm that batters the entire team for massive damage; it seems that fighting in the rain is not this team's specialty. The team does everything it can to stay afloat, however; beams of healing are exchanged, while many members attack the rift, which doesn't quite close up and emits a pulse that damages Kringles. Appearing exhausted, Umbreon swallows its berry, recovering just a little bit. Ulutiu also wastes no time getting the dimensions all nice and twisted again.

Aromatisse bolsters the fading spectral walls, and Ulutiu blasts off another healing beam that keeps Umbreon at a safe level of health. As Kringles bounces up in the air and smashes into the void, destroying it, the rest of the team attacks the Lugia – it seems, though, that their damage output is crippled without Delibird. Meanwhile, the two birds continue to attack; they appear to have found a couple of effective attacks and are using them repeatedly.

As yet another rift spawns in the ground, the raindrops turn colder and harder, crystallizing into hail pellets that batter your head. We will have to keep a weather eye on whether this weathered team can weather the weather...

Honestly I do not really even know if going after the Psychic Rift is worth it, especially since all I am limited to rift wise is a Hidden Power that does a measly 12 Damage... Or Psychic, but the Elemental Rifts lack a Weight Class, so... Not to mention Slowking can kinda sustain itself? If you want to go for the rift, then do so. Otherwise... Slowking has to Chill at least... Maybe Heal Pulse A2, or even a double Chill? The other mons can just attack? We have used too much EN too early imho, & we have been getting the shittiest rift rolls ever... :|

Round 6

The raid team comes to the conclusion that closing this rift up is pointless and jumps to battering the Lugia with as many attacks as it can muster. Meanwhile, Aromatisse and Umbreon fire off some healing rays at their teammates, but their own energy levels drop dangerously low. Undeterred, the two legendary birds retaliate with their own attacks; the Lugia, however, appears to be faltering – the burn, hail damage, and constant attacks are adding up.

The offensive continues with no regard to the void rift, which emits pulses at regular intervals, damaging Ulutiu – who chills to keep off the damage and his energy up. The rest of Its_A_Random's team gobbles down their berries, desperately staving off exhaustion; they are putting out a truly impressive amount of damage, however.

The skies clear up, as if setting the stage for a final struggle.

"Holy crap a rift that does not want to kill us! Then again, we might want to take this moment to rest up before the final assault..."

Delibird: Chill > Ice Punch (Lugia)

Regirock: Chill > Rock Slide

Umbreon: Foul Play (Lugia) > Chill

Aromatisse: Heal Pulse (Regirock) > Chill

As discussed, we want to dent Lugia's HP to as low as possible without taking it out, & a favourable rift roll has helped us a bit there. Snorlax might have to chill twice this round, Golurk & Eelektross want to Chill & attack, while Slowking will probably want to chill & possibly heal Umbreon for the last time in this first phase to ensure its survival or itself. I have not done any calcs or anything, so idk how much Lugia will have left, but we should be able to survive the rest of this phase without any casualties, which is surprising, but we should not get ahead of ourselves. The real damage race is about to start.

Round 7

Sensing a potential path to victory, the entire team takes a brief moment of rest, attacking only sporadically, bringing the Lugia ever so closer to defeat. Unfortunately, the two birds have no intent of giving up, it seems; after attacking each of their respective targets – which, funnily enough, have not changed the entire encounter thus far – they fly up high in the sky again, generating a howling maelstrom of wind shears that rip viciously into each of the team members, dealing significant damage.

As if to make matters worse, the downpour begins once again, timed perfectly with the opening of a new rift, bringing the total to three dark voids around the team. Needless to say, things are getting dangerous.

"Goodbye Lugia... Hello inevitable Unstable Rock rift... -.-'"

Delibird: Ice Shard (Ice Elemental Rift) > Ice Punch (Ice Elemental Rift)

Regirock: Smack Down (Lugia) > Psych Up (Snorlax)

Umbreon: Foul Play (Lugia) > Chill

Aromatisse: Heal Pulse (Regirock) > Chill

We have discussed what we need to do on IRC. Let us take this Lugia down & get ready for the next phase.

Engineer Pikachu: You seem to have forgotten Glyph of Rock Slide gives also +1 BP. By my calcs, it means Lugia should have 11 less HP (-1 from the first round, and -2 for five other times)

So let's see...

Snorlax: Pay Day (Lugia) - Ice Punch (Rift)
If Lugia is KOed before you act on A1, change A1 to Ice Punch (Rift) and A2 Tackle (Ho-Oh)
Slowking: Chill - Heal Pulse (Regirock)
Golurk: Thunderpunch (Lugia) - Ice Punch (Rift)
Eelektross: Thunderbolt (Lugia) - Spark (Ho-Oh)

Round 8

While Kringles immediately gets to attacking the icy void in the ground, the rest of the team concentrates its attacks on the Lugia, finally bringing it down – but not before it gets one last hit on Umbreon. As the Lugia, defeated, flies up and away, however, it triggers some sort of change in the Ho-Oh, restoring it back to full health and granting it more powerful defenses. While this change occurs, Ho-Oh also blasts Grandstone with a watery orb. Wonderful.

While one of the rifts is taken care of, the Ho-Oh takes the opportunity to aim carefully and blast Grandstone with a second orb of pure water, dealing a tremendous amount of damage. It's lucky that it was on the receiving end of two Heal Pulses this round, or it might not conscious enough to be grateful soon enough. Yet another elemental rift spawns, but this one looks... slightly different; perhaps it might not be a good idea to attack them anymore.
