Yanmega [2/3]

Overview
########
Yanmega is one of the best offensive Pokemon in the tier, and for good reason; it has two of the best offensive abilities in the game, Tinted Lens and Speed Boost, the former being able to punch holes in defensive teams that don't carry Pokemon such as Registeel, Golbat, and Togetic, and the latter being able to clean late-game and outspeed a large portion of the tier. It also has a great STAB combination, being able to hit common Pokemon in the tier for super effective damage, such as Reuniclus, Hitmonlee, and Amoonguss. It also has decent physical defenses, making it a fair switch-in to Hitmonlee, the most common Fighting-type in the tier. However, Yanmega is not without its flaws; a weakness to Stealth Rock, slightly match-up dependent sets, somewhat stiff competition with Sharpedo as a Speed Booster, and bad special bulk make it hard for Yanmega to do its role well in every match. However, its flaws are easily mitigated by its positives, and should not be overlooked.

Choice Specs
########
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Bug Buzz
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Sleep Talk / Shadow Ball
ability: Tinted Lens
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Timid / Modest

Moves
========

Bug Buzz and Air Slash provide as STAB moves that hit nearly everything in the tier for good damage, due to the Tinted Lens boost and Yanmega's great Special Attack stat. U-turn is used to go into something that can check Pokemon that can take repeated hits from Yanmega, such as Registeel, who is checked fairly easily by Dugtrio. Sleep Talk makes Yanmega a good sleep absorber, letting it switch into Pokemon such as Amoonguss and force them out. Shadow Ball serves as coverage, and can hit Pokemon such as Doublade, Delphox, and Mismagius.

Set Details
========

  • Max Speed and Special Attack coupled with Yanmega make it virtually unresisted by a large portion of the tier
  • Timid Nature is used so that you don't get outsped by base 85s-90s, however Modest can be used for more power
  • Tinted Lens allows Yanmega to remove resistances from the opposing Pokemon, allowing his moves to be nearly unresisted

Usage Tips
========

  • Keep Stealth Rock off the field, as it makes it much more harder for Yanmega to switch in, limiting its wallbreaking process
  • U-turn can be used to keep momentum, and lets Yanmega safely switch in to a check or counter.
  • Be wary of using Sleep Talk too much, as you will be forced to switch if you wake up and use it
  • While it does have Tinted Lens, there are still Pokemon that can wall it such as Registeel. If a switch is predicted to it and other answers to Yanmega, Yanmega should use U-turn and go to an appropriate check.

Team Options
========

  • Rapid Spin or Defog support from Pokemon such as Hitmonlee, Kabutops, and Skuntank, Hitmonlee gets a special mention as Yanmega as both of them can rip through stall teams, and Hitmonlee can deal with switch-ins to Yanmega such as Registeel
  • Offensive Pokemon that have trouble with stall, such as Sharpedo
  • Choice Band Dugtrio is a good partner, as it can trap many of Yanmega's answers and OHKO them, and can switch in fairly easily due to Yanmega's U-turns
  • Hazards support, from Pokemon such as Shuckle, Omastar, and Accelgor

Speed Boost
########
name: Speed Boost
move 1: Protect
move 2: Bug Buzz
move 3: Air Slash
move 4: Giga Drain / Shadow Ball
ability: Speed Boost
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

  • Protect lets Yanmega get an initial speed boost against common scarfers such as Rotom-C
  • Bug Buzz and Air Slash are Yanmega's main STAB moves, having good coverage in the metagame, hitting common Pokemon such as Virizion and Hitmonlee for super effective damage
  • Giga Drain hits Pokemon such as Rhyperior and Gastrodon, letting it have somewhat reliable recovery from Life Orb recoil.
  • Shadow Ball hits Doublade, a common switch-in for Yanmega.
Set Details
========

  • EVs maximize Yanmega's Special Attack and Speed
  • Modest is used over Timid because Yanmega will not have to worry about being outsped due to Speed Boost
  • Life Orb lets Yanmega deal as much damage as possible

Usage Tips
========

  • Should be used late-game, when the opposing team has been weakened by a fair amount
  • Protect should usually be used first to net a Speed Boost unless the opposing Pokemon is significantly slower
  • Should try to be kept away from Stealth Rock

Team Options
========

  • Rapid Spin support from Pokemon like Hitmonlee are appreciated by Yanmega, as it can remove the Stealth Rock that Yanmega hates
  • Pokemon that can deal with Steel-types, such as Delphox, Emboar, and Rhyperior
  • Hazard support from Pokemon such as Omastar or Accelgor

Other Options
########

  • Endure WP, which can make Yanmega a very effective sweeper with Speed Boost
  • Tailwind, which can be used on a Specs set to provide decent support to the rest of the team
  • Hidden Power Fire so Yanmega's not completely walled by Escavalier and Doublade

Checks & Counters
########

  • Steel types, mainly Registeel and Escavalier
  • Yanmega can be severely crippled by Stealth Rocks
  • Jolteon
  • Delphox
  • Specially Defensive Aromatisse
  • Common Eviolite users, such as Golbat and Togetic
  • Defensive Moltres
  • Regirock

Why isn't Giga Drain at least mentioned in the Specs set? it can be clutch by hitting Alomomola or Rhyperior or something.

I've also had at least -some- success with Roost on Yanmega, and I feel like it should warrant a mention in OO.
