I hope this doesn't condemn me to a future at Subway.
The rules said:
5vs5 Doubles Strongmons
Subs: 3
Items: On
2 Recovery/5 Chills
Switch = OK
Arena: SUBWAY (the sandwich shop)
DQ: 2 Days
For every sub you don't use while ordering first (KO Sub included!), SUBWAY throws many sandwiches at your mons, dealing 0.1 hp/en damage per move on your pokemon's movepool.

Also it is a fucking shop so no natural grass, no natural water, no natural rocks, Ground Attacks have their BAP reduced by 2 since those damage the property and that is bad and Steel moves have 15% less accuracy because everybody eat with their hands and no silverware is around, so it is harder to focus (hey I also don't get the focus thinge, but Iron Dungeon uses that so go yell at the tlr people).

The shop is doing a 10 for 5 promotion and if you bring 5...I don't know....rock types, you can bring 5 more for free!

Finally, since you can always skip the last ingredients (try skipping the kind of bread and see what happens), after a side loses 3 pokemon, both players (mutual agreement) can put an end to the battle without it being considered DQ.

akela can (not obligatory though) still choose +5 rock types (and I suggest you do so since this is supposed to mimic a gym match). My team would be the same regardless of the opposing team, so don't worry about that.

Also akela can choose megas. Default is 1 if no choice is made. Doesn't affect my first sent-out though.

Regardless I will open this with Gyorg the Colossoil with Rare Candy and Great Deku Tree the Torterra with Rare Candy.

Sub like you usually do. We will go from there.

We will be going with 0 Mega Pokemon because Rock-Type Pokemon have 0 Mega Pokemon that will not be wrecked by Steel-Type Mega Pokemon or Fighting-Type Mega Pokemon (Or non-Mega Pokemon).

Crustle @ Rare Candy
Solar Beam (Colossoil) > Toxic (Torterra) > Solar Beam (Colossoil)
Sub 1: IF Colossoil uses Dig, THEN Earthquake instead.
Sub 2: IF Rare Candy is knocked off, THEN use X-Scissor when you would use Solar Beam instead.
Sub 3: IF Colossoil is under the effects of a Protective/Evasive Maneuver when you would target it, THEN X-Scissor (Torterra) instead.
KO Sub: IF Colossoil is KOed, THEN X-Scissor (Torterra) instead.

Cradily @ Root Fossil
Solar Beam (Colossoil) > Energy Ball (Colossoil) > Solar Beam (Colosoil)
Sub 1: IF Torterra targets Cradily with a Damaging Fighting-Type Attack, THEN Barrier and push actions back
Sub 2: IF Colossoil uses Dig, THEN Earthquake instead
Sub 3: IF Cradily has less than 60 HP, THEN Giga Drain (Colossoil) and push actions back
KO Sub: IF Colossoil is KOed, THEN change remaining actions to Gastro Acid (Torterra) > Stealth Rock > Infestation (Torterra)

1) Everytime you sub for a damaging-evasive move, always remember to consider if it is suspended and if it is in a combo, or else, more often than not, it is prone to abuse. If you want to use a move that hits on the semi-vulnerable state, then use "not in a combo" or say "if X is on the semi vulnerable state of dig/damaging evasive move". If you want to use a combo to hit after the dig, then include "not suspended" and "not in a combo". In this case I could use Dig in a combo and have you EQ while not underground. Could but won't.
2) X-Scissor deals more damage than Solarbeam to both of my mons, so why Crustle's second sub? It doesn't make much of a difference. If you are ordering last on doubles, you can be absolutely sure that all subs demand actual usefulness. In this case, subbing for Multi-hit moves (like bullet seed) to stop solarbeam from being a problem is probably a good idea.
3) If you are subbing on doubles, sometimes you have to choose the lesser evil. You don't have to end in the top, just not too in the bottom. So, if you feel giga drain has better outcome, then go ahead and use it from the get go and take the risk of wasting 8en and use the sub for something more dangerous, like Bullet Seed
4) Toxic (or wow or the like) when ordering first is usually not a good idea if you can't handle substitute with ot without subs. In this case I can just sub with torterra and avoid toxic while keeping the sub intact. Such a thing makes more difference than the knock off sub.

and other stuff I forgot.

Colossoil: Megahorn (Cradily) - Knock Off (Cradily) - Megahorn (Cradily)

Ref's notes:
1) I was on LoA
2) Would someone explain the context of this battle? It seems kinda odd to me, what with the gym battle simulation and the very informative stuff about subs (thanks for that, by the way, I found it helpful as well).
3) I edited this to fix Cradliy's Attack.

Its a mixture of a rock gym test and, mostly, a crash course on subs.

Also another lesson for subs: read them after you write your orders so you be sure that you didn't forget anything important, like Giga Drain being used instead of Solarbeam ._.

SWITCH PHASE INITIATED!
Colossoil OUT

- Fun thing about doubles: if you manage to get rid of one of your opponent's pokemon at the begining of the round, you will get rid of half of the possible actions. So it is an outcome good enough to warrant dedicating some sub slots to ensure that that happens. Subs aren't just about defensive strategies. They are nicely used for an offensive approach and attack is the best defense as they say. In this case you won't see that as much, due to the nature of the mons involved...but the lesson stays, I guess? See my gym match vs flamestrike for details
- Still on the subject above: even if the opponent manages to keep the pokemon alive, if you make subs right, they will have to pretty much waste a lot of actions and suffer the consequences. For example: with the current orders you could use protect and passed protect to survive or a combination of passed Protect and Substitute. But for those maneuvers you will waste time, en and the redirect subs will ensure that my loss is minimal. Redirect subs may seem fluff in singles (aka: you only use if you have a spare sub), for doubles it has a really bigger importance. With push back also.
- Obviously all of this assumes you don't make mistakes. And that doesn't happen. So there is probably a way to get a good position here (btw there are some ways). And ways that seem like the solution, but will put you on a worse position regardless (see protect + passed protect). The bottom line is: check the damage dealt and see which option is the most effective, considering your moves. It can be a drag and I don't recommend doing so on most battles. Heck, maybe on all depending on how much you care. But if you care about the outcome of the battle, then do it. It will be worth it most of the time.
- BTW Priority passed protects is a terrific way to shit all over your opponent's sub strategies. Learn to use it and you should be good to go. Seriously it makes subbing a lot harder on me...
- You will see many pointless subs here. If you don't know what to sub for, the usual counter/damaging-evasive/double team/etc will do. But if you don't have slots, ignore those and change your actions (use special moves, seismic moves and spread moves at some actions respectively). Shoot for the lesser evil.
- Finally, know when to sub and when not to. If you want to deal with a pokemon and a specific move is crucial for that (see wood hammer), don't sub for stuff that may be abused to prevent that wood hammer, unless in the case of p/e, as that would screw with your main strategy

Technically, Cradily should only have -0.25 HP, due to Barrier increasing its Def by 2 stages.

Go Rampardos @ Skull Fossil.

Return, Crustle. Go Stratagem @ Expert Belt.

Would you care to counterswitch?

I am not entirely certain about this, but I won't know unless I give it a shot...

Rampardos: Avalanche (Torterra) > Ice Beam (Torterra) > Avalanche (Torterra)
Sub 1: IF Torterra uses Substitute, THEN Ice Beam (Torterra) and push actions back
Sub 2: IF Torterra is under the effects of a Protective/Evasive Maneuver when you would target it, THEN Blizzard and push actions back
Sub 3: IF Torterra is under the effects of Reflect, THEN Brick Break (Ferrothorn) and push actions back
KO Sub 1: IF Torterra is KOed when you would target it, THEN Fire Punch (Ferrothorn) instead
KO Sub 2: IF Ferrothorn is KOed when you would target it, THEN chill instead

Stratagem: Heat Wave > Fire Blast (Ferrothorn) > Heat Wave
Sub 1: IF Torterra uses Substitute, THEN Heat Wave and push actions back
Sub 2: IF Ferrothorn uses Giga Drain, THEN Fire Blast (Ferrothorn) and push actions back
Sub 3: [ONCE] IF Ferrothorn is under the effects of a Protective/Evasive Maneuver when you would target it, THEN Sunny Day and push actions back
KO Sub 1: IF Torterra is KOed when you would target it, THEN Fire Blast (Ferrothorn) instead

- Giga Drain causes a spread of 21.37hp. Gyro Ball deals 33hp of damage. If you are subbing against an attacking move, sub against Gyro Ball. Most of the time damaging-healing moves not named Pain Split aren't worth wasting your sub on. Unless the mon is holding a Big Root. Yeah the spread is bigger, but dealing damage>healing damage. Dealing damage leads to KO which leads to less attacks. Of Course, with steel attacks having bad accuracy on this arena, I may be risking more than I can...
- Again: a defensive sub against the most damaging attacks (and combos) available is usually a very good option. Almost a priority 1 option. Just make sure that the damaging attack you are subbing against is really the strongest one available. While you can't expect to get the most threatening combo everytime, the most damaging move can be predicted.
- Heat Wave deals more damage overall than Fire Blast. If you are subbing against a damaging-attacking move, unless a VERY SPECIFIC case is on, the action clause must involve either a P/E move or Substitute or Disable and the like. If you feel an attacking move can deal damage, you use protect to waste one action of the guy ordering last. Stall the actions ordering first and resume the offense when you order last. If you want to use a threat to avoid a move, you use the more threatening move from the get go.
- Avalanche (and revenge etc) aren't good moves when ordering first. In general on doubles at least, as you can focus on the other mon. Unless your other options deal less damage than the weak-version of avalanche. And that isn't the case. Avalanche deals (6+4)*2.25+2=24.5hp ordering always last, Ice Beam deals (9+2)*2.25=24.75hp, Blizzard deals 31.81hp of damage. So you use Blizzard - Ice Beam - Blizzard (or Ice Beam - Blizzard - Ice Beam to stop Wide Guard from being a bitch).
- I know a lot of I say involves doing calcs. I don't want to sound like doing high-level ASB is too much work. It is kinda hard at the begining, but at some point, the most efficient options will come to you faster. But you need to think about it first. Or pay attention on high-level matches you ref and take a page from the players book.

By the way, I realized I forgot to check if Ice Beam freezes Torterra, so I did that. Nothing changed.

The bad thing about this battle is that I am supposed to wipe out good orders. When ordering first. On Doubles. With 3 subs a piece.

>_<;.

Azumarill with Sea Incense takes the place of Torterra

BUT

I still don't have orders. My head hurts real bad :/. I will have them up here tommorow so please bear with me.

- Subs are a great way to make sure you keep some momentum. Put your opponent on a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. For example, here, I am betting that you don't want to lose Eviolite and am using subs to try and prevent you from keeping it without paying the price for it. Sure sometimes that backfires if miss your prediction (for example, if you don't give a shit to losing eviolite or if it doesn't hurt you that much, you will just let it happen and I get screwed). That kind of strategy is good because it automatically puts your opponent in a defensive stance, which means that he won't kill you when ordering last. But it only works if you manage to analyse the situation well enough and really discover what your opponent don't want to happen (normally it doesn't want to lose a very good item or lose a very good ability or even lose a mon with little hp...although you have to be certain that your opponent can't just take the blow and deliver a much bigger one to you....make sure it isn't an expendable sacrifice).
- Did I mention that priority passed protect is a bitch? It is, so feel free to use it to get yourself to an advantageous position.
- On doubles, subbing for a sub not activating (it is a condition sub) is a great way to overcome the prohibition on using NOT + Attack Clause. So for example on Ferrothorn's first sub I used that to say "NOT Counter" and "NOT Metal Burst" in a legal way

Azumarill: Knock Off (Rhydon) - Waterfall (Rhydon) - Aqua Tail (Rhydon)
IF
Rhydon is under P/E THEN Waterfall Rampardos
IF Rhydon is to use Metal Burst AND Azumarill is targetting it with a Damaging Water-Typed move THEN Redirect towards Rampardos
IF Rhydon is to use Counter AND Azumarill is targetting it with a Damaging Water-Typed move THEN Redirect towards Rampardos
KO SUB: IF your target is KO'd THEN Redirect towards the other opponent

Ferrothorn: Power Whip (Rampardos) - Iron Head (Rampardos) - Power Whip (Rampardos)
IF
Rhydon doesn't have a Eviolite equipped AND Azumarill's second sub doesn't activate AND Azumarill's third sub doesn't activate AND Rhydon isn't underground THEN Power Whip (Rhydon)
IF Rampardos is under P/E THEN Spikes AND push back
IF Rampardos is underground when Ferrothorn is to attack it THEN Spikes
KO SUB: IF your target is KO'd THEN Redirect towards the other opponent

Sorry for the delay. Those aren't the best orders ever, but should do for now.

75 - 1 (Rhydon's Icy Wind) = 74
74 - 23.625 (Rampardos' First Fire Punch) = 50.375
50.375 - 13.5 (Rhydon's First Fire Punch) = 36.875
36.875 - 23.625 (Rampardos' Second Fire Punch) = 13.25
13.25 - 13.5 (Rhydon's Second Fire Punch) = -0.25
Ferrothorn was never able to use the Power Whip that KO'd Rampardos.
