CM has to be used lots of times for stored power to be actually strong. You need to at least get to +3 for it to actually do some good damage. Of course stored power is a lot better late game when there are no dark types and nothing can beat it while you slowly setup. Not saying psyshock is better or stored power is better, it's just that I like psyshock more since it's a lot more consistent.

Hi CTC, I would like to make me a team from these 2... Terrakion is a great Physical Sweeper I think,
But hey could not put in any of my past teams Formed, altaria seems a great companion for Terrakion in addition to carrying heal bell can cure him of burns

Terrakion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Quick Attack
- Swords Dance

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure

Hey ctc.I want u to make a team with this three guys

Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Iron Head

Diggersby @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Return
- Earthquake

Gallade sets up and sweeps shit while bisharp traps and kills bulky psychics and fairies.Standard Gallade+Sharp Core.Diggersby might seem weird but it does very well against sableye stall where it can get a free sub and possibly sweep.

Glalie-Mega @ Glalitite
Ability: Refrigerate
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Frustration

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt

a cool core i have seen and used. while the glalie+trapper core is very generic but its also extremely effective as glalie functions as a wallbreaker and magnezone removes stuff that annoy glalie such as ferrothorn as well as providing volt switch support for glalie as glalie is pretty darn frail. I dont know what synergizes well here but i do see latios working as a good offensive defogger as glalie despises rocks.I could also see a potential dragmag team work here.I am inexpereinced in OU but would like a glalie team as it works in the ubers ladder(lol) and also because i just love how powerful glalie is.Thanks in advance ctc and a good job your doing here. It's pretty darn cool you take the time to help nubs like me.

With Dragalge gaining Adaptability, it gets the chance to switch in on things it resists, like Rotom-W, Thundurus, Tentacruel, etc, and nuke something into a midlife crisis. Gyarados is weak to Electric and Fight coverage, and can deal with Ground attacks pre-mega. Together, they end up covering a lot of each other's checks, bar ridiculously fast attackers like M-Gross, M-Sceptile and M-Diancie. To that end, I'd like to suggest this core:

Dragalge @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 132 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Scald
- Focus Blast

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt

/

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Spikes
- Play Rough
- Magnet Rise

OR a choice between SpD Jirachi and Scarf Jirachi, or even Sub BatonPass Celebi.

The third slot is something I'm not sure about, considering Jirachi walls special attackers better, which helps with M-Sceptile and M-Diancie, which otherwise break this core's spine. Point is, this core needs to give ample switch-in opportunities to both M-Gyara and Dragalge, which is something it can't really do on its own without something like T-wave support, a sort-of blanket check to fast special attackers (namely, Jirachi), or a Subsititute to absorb damage. If Dragalge is considered, as you so aptly put it, 'dogshit', then I can understand if this core is not worth mentioning.

Also, a question for you, CTC: How do you get good at team-building? Is it just a matter of experience until you get an idea of which 'mon is good in certain situations, and then just trial-and-error/personal preference from there?

Time for a core which is much less standard than most of the cores I'm seening rn. ;)

Swellow @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Facade
- Brave Bird/ Any other Flying STAB
- Steel Wing/ U-turn
- Roost

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf/ Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon

I really like the look of Swellow as a unique and underused pokemon to build a team around. It has a great speed tier of 125 allowing it to outspeed greninja which is always a huge threat. Guts + Facade is basically a physical STAB choice specs boomburst while burned except I'm not choiced and there is residual damage turn by turn. Swellow's biggest drawback is his shallow movepool which is pretty much limited to facade, BB, weak flying STAB, U-turn, Roost and Steel Wing. Swellow can't touch steel types which is where magnzone come in. His job is the same as always: Trap annoying steels and eliminate them from the battle. Since steels are getting cheeky and running shed shell plus there are steels mag can't kill, CTC if you decide to attempt making this team I will need more steel killers though I'm sure you knew this already. Do your magic CTC if you decide to make this.

Edited this post from original because 2 reasons: first core sucked and second core was already used in a previous team (sorry, dug through previous posts and found it).

I've got something relatively interesting here.

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power Fire
- Earth Power

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Protect

This core complements each other quite well. Diancie is able to hit Scizor on the switch with Hidden Power Fire, and it can do the same to Ferrothorn. However, even with Calm Mind, there's two threats in particular that murder her - Azumarill and Greninja. Ferrothorn handles these two quite nicely. Any Azumarill lacking Superpower is walled by Ferrothorn, forcing it out. With a Sassy nature and 168 SpD EVs, Ferrothorn can tank any special hit Greninja has bar HP Fire - so scouting is needed. It also sets SR in addition to checking most waters. If you decide to make this, it'll likely need a revenge killer to finish off frail threats like Sceptile.

I have a team with this core. PM me if you are interested since I don't want to violate rule 4.

Hey CTC really wanted a oras team around gallade, one of the best megas imo.

- Gunk Shot

CTC, hello!
Please help me with this core. I know Lopunny completes Greninja and vice-versa, but I don't know how to deal wish stall/fat teams and bulky offense.
Could you help me build a nice team around these two and that is nice to deal against any team style?

On cell right now so forgive me if this is short but I was interested in a team built around the Mega Gallade+Bisharp core. This popular core works well together with their typing having nice synergy handling each other's checks. Gallade's resistance to fighting works well with Bisharp who resists ghost and flying. Been trying to decide if I wanna use this core on a hyper offense team or a more balanced team. I've been focused on my M.Lopunny team so I haven't had time to work on a team based around this core. Also been trying to avoid using Greninja as I feel like this thing will hit ubers.

Gallade @ Galladite

looks like a pretty standard core. dont particularly see the synergy since no ice punch on gross, but eh looks decent enuf. fat gross is gr8 since it can switch into stuff like lopunny and tank a hit from ninja etc when agilitying, so thats one upside to the agility set. the downside is, its coverage is p shit in theory and it looks kinda horseshit. the core is weak to fat waters like slowbro mola quag etc along w fat steels like skarm. rotom fits the team naturally. the rest is standard shit cuz yea standard shit

fairly solid old school core. scept is underwhelming offensively but serves decent defensive purposes which is nice. core is kinda weak to stall, only cm lati rlly helps but even then not rlly.

Talonflame (M) @ Sharp Beak

CTC

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return/Frustration/Facade
- Earthquake
- Roost

or

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 96 SpD / 28 Spe
Impish Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Refresh/Heal Bell/Substitute
- Roost

Offensive or bulky Mega Altaria. I know it's usually relegated to second tier status below Mega Charizard X as a Dragon Dancer, but STAB Return (or whichever move you choose to use) after a Dragon Dance is nothing to laugh at. Earthquake is most notably for Heatran, Bisharp and Excadrill, although Scarf Excadrill can be annoying. Of course strong Bullet Punch users like Mega Metagross and Scizor are Altaria's biggest problems. Not 100% sure on the EVs and nature for this one.

Gengar @ Life Orb/Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute/Taunt
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave/Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]/Focus Blast

Gengar is really strong and can nuke some of Altaria's checks and counters with it's strong STABs. It can nuke all of the Fairy type switch ins with Sludge Wave/Bomb and Shadow Ball completes pretty solid neutral coverage for the tier. If it gets the change to get behind a sub it's even better. Hidden Power Fire is for Scizor, Skarmory and Ferrothorn.

Edit:

Hey, if you get around to building something (or if you already have) you can use the above core if you want! But I think this next one could be more fun/interesting!

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Acid Spray
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Sludge Bomb/Knock Off

Tentacruel sponges up nearly all Fairy type attacks (Play Rough/BD Azu still can be an issue but everything else is fair game) and is a solid Heatran switch in, two Pokemon that threaten Mega Sableye. Acid Spray lets Scald hit harder, Scald is STAB and fishes for burns, Rapid Spin to clear hazards. Still can't decide between the utility of Knock Off and hitting Fairy types for super-effective damage in the last slot...

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Dark Pulse

Which brings us to this little broken thing. I've been wanting to do something with CM M Sableye for a little while now, so if you could make something work please be my guest! If you could find something between total stall and bulky offense around this I would appreciate it!! (but complete stall is ok, too!)

I'm gonna post another core partly because I really want a team around these three and partly because I doubt CTC accepted the SwellowMag core cause it has a freaking Swellow which is a major threat in NU but OU? Not so much.

Alomomola @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 232 HP / 24 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Scald
- Toxic

Chesnaught (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Roar
- Synthesis
- Drain Punch

Heatran (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpD / 40 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Will-O-Wisp

So basically this started out with me wanting to use a phasing core cause phasing is an easy way to wear down your opponent. The best phasing core was clearly Chestran so I went with that. Now both of these pokes, especially Heatran, get worn down pretty easily so I wanted a wish passer. Alomomola was excellent for this role as its allround bulk and giant wishes helped a ton. Alomomola also has the added benefit of being a water type so now I have FWG core. CTC when you make this team I would prefer for you to steer clear from stall even though I know this core looks stally. I would prefer a team which uses this core to wear down the opposing team so a late-game cleaner or two can clean up. Thanks if you make this CTC.

Yo CTC can you make a team around
Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

So this core focuses around getting rid of bisharps checks and counters. Azumarill can take care of keldeo, conkeldurr, and charizard takes care of mega sableye all of which wall bisharp otherwise. Neither azumarill or bisharp enjoy getting burned thats why charizard is here and charizard prevents mega scizor from sweeping. I think this core has potential and will make bisharp a big threat to most teams. Well if you do make this gl.

Hi CTC could you build a team around the Swordsmen?

Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance
- w/e (didn't really want Knock Off cos Bish has that, too much Dark spam I guess)

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Pursuit

Basically the two form a really solid core because they have excellent typing synergy. Also Bisharp takes care of bulky psychic types for Gallade while Gallade takes care of Steels and Fighting types for Bisharp. I put Pursuit on Bish to trap Psychics but it's not crucial, depends on the rest of the team tbh, it can be replaced if needed. I tried make a team around it but I didn't like playing with it cos it was balanced, and I like HO. I chose shit like Rotom-W and Latias for Bird checks and Keldeo because it threatened the core but overall I didn't like the team. It wasn't that good and I hate using things like Rotom-W cos it's so boring to use and gets worn down easily. Thanks

bruh like 3 people posted this exact core earlier

The main reason I wanted to use Mega Alakazam was that the idea of tracing protean from ninja sounded like a fun thing to mess with, since the tier is already starting to get boring for me (shit gets boring real fast for me). I don't know if timid or modest would be better though, timid allows it to check things like mega lopunny, mega sceptile, mega beedrill, and some slower scarfers. At the same time, that modest nature secures a 2hko on +1 M-slowbro, still outspeeds greninja, and hits some things in the tier harder like mega metagross, mega gallade, and a bunch of other things. I didn't want this mon taking any incoming presents from Prankster Thundurus, so I slapped an AV raikou right next to it.

Alakazam (Air Time) @ Alakazite

Ability: Pressure
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball

The first three moves are just for coverage, and if i get that beautiful protean on, things should go smoothly mid to late game with it. taunt is just to stop things like M-slowbro or chansey or heatran from setting up or doing things in my face. And I think the speed takes on +1 mega dos, but I don't know how necessary that is in the current meta. Standard Raikou set is standard. Takes damage from prankster Thundy and dishes more out. Also pivots nicely into ala at the right times for me to get a kill on the switch. Since I went with modest, I decided that I needed something to handle those fast aforementioned megas from before so i slapped on a scarf lando t. Don't know If he exactly fits though. Sorry I'm not giving you much to deal with as a two-core team essentially, but I really do think Mega-Ala has some potential in the current Meta.

Thanks in advance!!! :]

So Mega Absol is a pokemon that was largely garbage in XY and suffers from the increased competition for a mega slot in ORAS. It's pretty shit. HOWEVER, it has a niche in being able to dismantle degenerate stall cores fairly well, particularly Chansey + Mega Sableye. I've been desperately trying to make it useful on the ladder for the past few days and this is the most interesting core I've been able to come up with so I was wondering if you could make anything worthwhile out of it.

Strong Bird (Hawlucha) (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Substitute
- Baton Pass
- High Jump Kick

Deviant Art OC (Absol) (F) @ Absolite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 1 SpA
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off

Mega Hat Cat has a speed tier that lets it shit on the Latis, MegaMeta, Gallade, Thundurus and more but it has to actually survive the mega evolution turn to get there which is obviously a problem. SubPass Hawlucha lures in psychic-types and Mega Sableye and then ideally passes the sub to Absol to give it a free turn to get not destroyed. Hawlucha also deals with Conkeldurr and Breloom which are obviously problems for Absol. Swords Dance probably isn't necessary on Absol (I don't think I've ever actually successfully gotten the opportunity to SD and then manage to do anything productive with it but tbf I'm quite awful) and could be replaced with Ice Beam or Fire Blast or something to take advantage of its movepool and Special Attack. Obviously the core has issues with Bird Spam as well as fairies, particularly Diancie and Azumarill, so Ferrothorn could be a good defensive partner. Thanks for this thread, btw.

I dont know if its a lot to ask but could you build a team for me. I havent had the time to build and when i do i get stuck, so i would really appreciate it. The sets and cores are below.

Hello ! I've been playing pokemon for quite a time now, but I feel as I haven't learn much about synergy and how to create efficient cores. That is why I would really appreciate your help.
Here's a list of my favorite pokemons:
Scizor (Mega or no): I usually use the Bulky Sword Dance if Mega and CB if not.
Metagross (Mega or no): Mega Wall Breaker.
Infernape: Life orb Mixed.
Latios: Life orb.

Thank you ! :)

Hey CTC

It'd be cool if you would make a team around this cool core I conjured up :)
Talonflame @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Natural Gift

Dugtrio @ Focus Sash
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Memento
- Stealth Rock
Dugtrio set can be changed if you feel the need to. Duggy traps tran and the occasional scarf magneton, weakens ttar so talon can ohko, sets up rocks, and gives talon setup opportunities with memento. Once heatran is dead and things are a bit weakened, duggy can use memento and rip the opponent. :)
