Arena: The Forlorn Graveyard
Restrictions: None

People have stopped burying people in this abandoned graveyard for centuries, but there is still an eerie aura all over the place. The grass looks more grey than green (despite this not affecting Grass-type moves at all), and most Pokemon and people avoid the place instinctively. Some trainers however still visit this place to strengthen the link with their Pokemon, especially Ghost-type ones. A still lake formed in a fissure in the ground, however the dark water makes it impossible to see what lies in its depths

The odd aura of this graveyard has several effects in battle:
  • Focus Blast has 100% accuracy, and the base power of Aura Sphere and Hidden Power is raised by (2). It is very easy to focus oneself's soul in this place.
  • Will-O-Wisp has 100% accuracy. There are always wisps floating around to provide decent enough fodder for this wicked spell.
  • Pain Split has its base energy cost reduced by (2), and all draining attacks are empowered as if the Pokemon were holding Big Root, but without incurring the extra energy cost (this effect doesn't stack with Big Root itself). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.
  • All Pokemon's max HP are reduced to 90. The aura of sorrow which permeates this place withers the strength and the resolve of all the Pokemon battling in its surroundings - even Ghost-types.
  • There are some leftover scrap parts, scattered around the arena. Rotom can tap into them, raising its Special Attack and Special Defense by 1 rank as long as it stays in its original form (without any appliance).

Team ZhengTann:
Camerupt - Elfman (M)

"Hey mon," is probably Elfman's QOTD, all day, everyday. His easy-going attitude is reflective of his species' nature - slowly pacing on with the simple pleasures of daily life. Or so it seems. Elfman is as stubborn as they come - in fact, he got into a tussle with Natsu just because they wanted to cross the same (outer) side of the ledge. It took Gray's help to wrestle him down (a fact all but Gray is unhappy about) but Zheng's capture brought him into the family. Being slow to anger doesn't mean Elfman is slow on the uptake, but it does mean that he's slow to cooldown after he gets really riled up.

Having a family to be with changes Elfman - he is becoming more and more a stolid guardian than a laid-back jock. Steadfast to the point of tactless, he will not give way if he feels that his family is threatened. He is especially protective of Mirajane, and will often go out of his way to help her in any way perceived possible.

Nature: Quiet (+1 SpAtk, -15% Speed, -10% evasion)

Type:
Fire type: Fire STAB; immune to burn status.

Ground type: Ground STAB; immune to Sandstorm. Ignores Arena restrictions on Dig and Seismic Attacks for Arenas in which any land mass exists, Evasive Digging reduced from 6 per action Energy Cost to 5 per action.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Magma Armour
Type: Passive
Elfman has a strong, heated armor that makes it incapable of being frozen. His armor also reduces the Base Attack Power of all incoming attacks by one (1).

Ability 2: Solid Rock
Type: Passive
Elfman’s solid body and durable constitution causes the Base Attack Power of incoming super-effective attacks to be reduced by two (2).

Ability 3: Anger Point (DW Unlocked)
Type: Passive
When struck with a critical hit, Elfman becomes enraged and its Attack rises to maximum (Stage 6). However, his Attack will drop up to two (2) stages at the end of each round instead of one (1) stage until it reaches the Pokemon's natural Attack stage. Critical hits from self-targeting moves do not activate Anger Point.

Armaldo - Pantherlily (M)

Gajeel was the one who found Pantherlily's Claw Fossil discarded at the entrance of a mine. Seeing the Murkrow's penchant for it, Zheng decided to go to the nearest archaeological lab and revive it. Pantherlily and Gajeel have been quite attached to each other ever since. They share the same camaraderie towards each other as Natsu and Gray, but at least they didn't have the head-splitting rivalry that the other pair always do. Often after a training session, Gajeel would take Pantherlily up for flight trips, while the latter demonstrates the pleasure of submersion in water. The rest of the family often help Pantherlily too, since he's still much less comfortable on terrestrial environment - Wendy loved piggybacking him and Charla together, while the latter doesn't mind that much.

Pantherlily's much larger size now meant that he would no longer be the protected fossiling now, but a respected fighter in his own right. Swinging his claws with the strength of a shield bash, Pantherlily trains everyday by felling trees for firewood and clearing debris around the monastery backyard. Often in the evenings, the only sounds there are the rustling of his claws as no fallen leaf ever touches the ground.

Nature: Adamant (+1 Atk, -1 SpAtk)

Type:
Bug type: Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).

Rock type: Rock STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Fast Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by 2 Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Battle Armour
Type: Passive
Pantherlily’s thick armor prevents him from taking critical hits.

Ability 2: Swift Swim (DW Unlocked)
Type: Passive
Pantherlily can move deceptively fast in slick, rainy conditions, doubling (x2) its Speed in the rain.

Laxus - Eelektross (M)

Misunderstood since he had memory about his gender and sexuality, Laxus often feels angry at the world. At capture, he felt that only Zheng was non-judgemental to him, and more important, his anger. Yet, he still often lashes out at the people he loved because he's angry with himself for being weak. And he tries to be stronger by projecting his will upon others. Erza and Mirajane are the two who'd stand up to his reckless tantrums, not allowing him to hurt himself or those around him.

Nature: Quiet (+ SpA, -15% Speed, -10% Evasion)

Type:
Electric type: Electric STAB; immune to paralysis status.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Levitate
Type: Passive
Laxus naturally floats above the earth when released, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit.

That Armaldo and that Eelektross look familiar^^

Beginnings are important, whether in a good novel or a good battle!

Gym Leader Shauntal sends out Myrkul (Revenankh M)!
Myrkul has Infiltrator!
Myrkul holds Focus Sash!

I am so, so sorry that I forgot this.
So, past due time for you to get acquainted with this Camerupt then.
Tanner said:

"Well yes, as a journalist I cannot disagree, but does your beginning include an eye-catching title?"

Bhante asked me to come here, so here I am, in the Ghost Gym of all places. I was wondering how could Bhante not know that, until Shauntal appeared, 'accepting my challenge' and beginning a battle I doubt I can even win. I barely started being a Pokemon trainer, and what's more, Rias and the others weren't even with me - these are Bhante's Pokemons!

"Brrrggghhh grraaahh!!"

Although, maybe I can snatch a personal interview with her out of this while we battle...

"So, uh, Ms. Shauntal, what are the events in your life that spurred your love of books and writing?"
Elfman (Camerupt @ Magma Armour, w/ Rare Candy)

Lava Plume > Heat Wave > Flame Burst
IF Myrkul-Revenankh uses Bide, THEN replace the action queue with Mimic (Bide) > Will-o-Wisp > Eruption, starting from the action Bide is used.
IF Myrkul-Revenankh uses a non-combo Damaging Evasive move, THEN replace the first instance with Dig, the second with Roar, and the third with Dig instead.

Focus Blast - Drain Punch - Focus Blast
If Camerupt uses Rock Polish or Will-O-Wisp and is not Taunted, replace your respective action with Taunt. Do not play this substitution more than once.

If only Elfman had Anger Point as well.....
EDIT: It doesn't change my orders, given that Zar didn't ask for any as well.

Okay, so the battle is too close for either of us to pay too much attention to any sort of interview. Maybe I should just focus on the battle.

So I double-checked and I think Camerupt should have 1 less HP, because Focus Blast does have 12 BAP but it was reffed as 11 BAP at Round 1. With the arena mechanics capping maximum HP at 90, I suppose Focus Sash doesn't deactivate until Revenankh reaches 27 HP or less.
Tanner said:

"Elfman, what are you doing? You have to sto-"

"Burrgggrrgrah!!!"

Oh no. Elfman seems to be out of my control. Shauntal glances over, her gaze both inquiring and slightly amused, maybe at the thought that I'm still too amateur to properly control my Pokemon? Which is the point - Elfman isn't even mine!

Okay, Tanner. Calm down. What did Bhante said again? Meditate, and contemplate. Yeah right, I can do this. Elfman may be ignoring my orders, but at least he seems to be doing fine. But I'm not, so I will need to find out why.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in......

"Looks like you can't handle it, Elfman."
Switch phase initiated. Laxus (Eelektross @ Expert Belt) is coming in. Counterswitch?

"Shut up, mon. Just let me deal with this bandaged mon on my own."

"You know, Elfman, Laxus is right. You should return and- wait why can I understand Pokemon all of a sudden?"
Bounce > Bounce > Thunder Punch
IF Myrkul-Rvenankh is slower AND would use a non-combo Damaging Evasive move, THEN replace that action with Thunderbolt instead, pushing remaining queue back.
IF Myrkul-Revenankh would use Counter, THEN replace that action with Thunderbolt instead, pushing remaining queue back.

Sorry, Mulan, but you had Eelektross' max HP at 100 R3, instead of 90 again. This means after Pain Split and all, Revenankh would be left with 35 HP, 6 EN, and Eelektross 30 HP, post-round. Hope this doesn't change your order, Zar.

EDIT: Since it doesn't....

"See, I told you I could handle it on my own!"

"Oh really? And you'd think you can do it better than me, huh?"

"Stop it guys, please! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I can understand you all...."

"It's okay, I'll handle this guy in the meantime."
Counterswitch accepted. Laxus replaced by Pantherlily (Armaldo @ Swift Swim w/ Claw Fossil).

Knock Off > Aqua Tail > Aqua Tail
IF Grumbar-Golurk is faster AND would use a non-combo Damaging Evasive move, THEN replace that action with Dig instead, pushing remaining queue back.
IF Grumbar-Golurk is under the effects of Protective/Evasive moves, THEN replace the first instance with Bulldoze, and subsequent instances with Earthquake instead, pushing remaining queue back each time.

"Quite a tense plot, I must say!"

Drain Punch - Rock Slide - Drain Punch
If Armaldo uses Dig, replace your respective action with Earthquake and push your actions back.
If Armaldo uses a P/E move, replace your respective action with Phantom Force and push your actions back. Do not play this substitution consecutively.
