ORAS PU Teambuilding Competition - Voting phase

approved by galbia, stolen from same Model User

Hello and welcome to the second edition of the PU Teambuilding Competition! The goal of this project is to observe and better understand how experienced PU players go about building their teams around a particular core. It's also a great way to improve and refine your own teambuilding skills, or just simply learn how others do it! Anyone is free to participate and I encourage as much discussion as possible; however, I'd like to point out that you do not have to post a team to contribute to this thread. Feedback is allowed and actually preferred in this thread, so if you have comments or concerns about someone's team, don't be afraid to post it! The process is as follows:

Each round, I will choose a core of two Pokemon (or only one Pokemon sometimes). It is then up to you to build a team around it, designing sets, teammates, roles, and everything in between. Identifying weaknesses, strategies, and so forth are key parts of teambuilding and I'm quite interested to see how that carries through in this thread. I also hope to emphasize a lot of creativity with this as well—new gems and underrated Pokemon and cores are popping up all the time, and hopefully this thread can bring about a lot of new discoveries about the metagame! After the submission period is over (which will be after around give or take a week) I will announce the voting period, where you will get a couple of days to vote on what you think is the best team. By the end of the voting period, the votes will be tallied and team with the most votes will be archived in the Hall of Fame I will be posting below, and the process will start again with a new core.

Some rules I'm expecting people to follow:
  • Make the post presentable. Fancy cute sprites are encouraged so long as they aren't as wide as Kim Kardashian's ass, but be sure to provide a link for other users so that they may use them in the future.
  • Make sure you have a paragraph describing how your team functions and how it supports the core. If I wanted to look at a pastebin of some mediocre team, I would go to the RMT forum and hunt for the locked threads made by users with such pristine names like Pikachu77.
  • Don't insult users if their teams aren't up to standard, feel free to question why people are running certain things or suggest changes that will make the team better. In fact, I highly encourage discussion but don't be rude about it. Basically, just don't be a jackass.
  • Use hide tags when posting your team. Don't be that douchebag that makes everyone scroll down for an extra 5 seconds. No one likes that, and they won't like you afterwards.
  • Be creative! While there'll be no restrictions this time around, try to explore uncommon Pokemon if circumstances allow it. Channel your inner hipster.
  • You are allowed to edit your teams with testing and / or feedback from other people (i.e. you realize it sucks or gets 6-0ed by something), however be sure to make note of these edits in the original post (that means pastebin it you dodo). Once the voting period begins however, you cannot edit your teams anymore.
The Pokemon you are going to build around this week is...

NOMINATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL SUNDAY NIGHT GMT+5:30 (so maybe even a bit later if i forget lol)

IT IS VOTING RIGHT NOW, WHICH WILL CLOSE BY WEDNESDAY APPROXIMATELY

Defensive Carracosta + specially defensive Roselia is a nice hazard stacking core that covers a lot of threats but is easily broken by Ninetales, Leafeon, and Jumpluff. The first thing that came to my mind was Earthquake Torkoal as it also provides Rapid Spin support, but I didn't want to turn this into a stall team so I decided to use Rapidash, which is a nice offensive Grass and Fire check with Flash Fire + Drill Run. Rapidash doesn't cover Jumpluff though and I wanted an offense killer, so Sap Sipper Zebstrika was a nice fit. Misdreavus has gotten better with the Sneasel and Throh bans, and acts as a spinblocker and a somewhat decent wallbreaker. I prefer Will-O-Wisp over Taunt here because that makes Misdreavus a decent secondary sand offense check and Wisp cripples Lickilicky which is on literally all stall teams so yeah. Taunt works as well though to prevent Defogging and stuff. At first I added Choice Specs Floatzel in the last teamslot for something to take on Piloswine and check the occassional rain team as well, but I changed it for Pelipper because it actually switches in on Piloswine and though it can't OHKO it, Pelipper has Defog to remove the Stealth Rock Piloswine sets (though if you got a lot of your own hazards up it's not recommended). The Electric weakness is also mostly covered by specially defensive Roselia and Zebstrika.
The team is not hard to use honestly, just a matter of getting up entry hazards and eventually cleaning up with a team member, which is usually Zebstrika as it is the fastest one. The team is pretty weak to sun and Beheeyem, but luckily both are quite rare at the moment so you should be fine.

Not bad, but you have to build a team around the current core which is Carracosta + Roselia.

stall

Took a more defensive path than GrimoireGod's team, going for a stall this time, as I never really tried the playstyle with a team by me and this seemed a good occasion to go for it. Defensive Carracosta + specially defensive Roselia is a nice hazard stacking core that covers a lot of threats but is easily broken by Ninetales, Leafeon, and Jumpluff cit. GrimoireGod. Therefore I immediately thought of building stall when I saw that Vullaby could basically provide everything I needed, a phazer to rack up residual damage, a physical tank for Grass-types, and a Defog user while punishing enemy's atk boosts with Foul Play, other than being immune to powder moves such as sleep powde thanks to Overcoat. The next problem was Ninetales, so I put Lickilicky in as a main special tank that is able to wish pass to allies and phaze with Dragon Tail. To support it I added bulky Misdreavus, as it is able to Taunt Defog users and spread burns crippling the enemy team, while also working as a decent spinblocker. Clefable was added as a last slot to provide a winning condition with Calm Mind and Stored Power, that was also a decent check to thing like mixed simipour.

Hazard Stack Bulky Offense Emporium

This team is my own take on a sort of bulky offense and hazard stack based team with Zebstrika and Dodrio providing momentum and strong hits. The core provided; Rose and Carracosta is a pretty solid hazard stacking and defensive core, so I decided to just build from there. Pawniard and Missy provide some more bulk and utility in preventing hazard removal and can put out a few strong hits. Zebstrika provides the support needed to take care of Jumpluff which is heavily needed in this team with the given core. With Throh gone, this team as a whole can do much more work in the long run, and with hazards can prevent the opposing team from switching as much; leaving less work for the user.

Looking at the import you can see that the team look a bit weird, and thats because the team is basically filled with baits. Leavanny is an obvious choice as servine functions best with sticky web up, as it allows servine to outspeed most of the grounded metagame, which is what the EVs do (beat -1 zeb). Rindo Knock off simipour baits both jumpluff, by taking seed bombs and OHKOing back, and knocking of roselias eviliolite. It can also revenge kill armaldo and torkoal if they manage to break through dusknoir, but before they can spin. Pawniard baits in probopass, while providing a check to opposing pawniards (allowing servine to run hp ice not fire), and blocks defog as well as providing priority. Dusknoir is my spin blocker, with the speed to outspeed -1 pawniard to burn it, as well as outspeed armaldo and crippling it with will-o-wisp. Thunder punch works nicely with pawniard to hurt poliwrath and other bulky water types, and i dont need ice punch as the team has enough ice attacks. Piloswine is acts as a glue, checking a lot of non grounded pokes like dodrio, rotom-f, and haunter (also sap sipper zeb), as well as setting up stealth rock, and baiting in pelipper with stone edge (which is also cool for rotom-f). My last thing to say is that often pawniard cannot do much even with a defog boost, for example if they have a poliwrath, if so, either dont sac leavanny or servine can switch in, boosting its evaision. The team may not be to fast outside of webs, but keep in mind it has 3 prioririties
