Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Charizard switches in easily on Pokemon that gives Latias trouble such as Bisharp, Scizor and Volcarona and can set up on them. In return, Latias can help Charizard to check Garchomp, Keldeo and Slowbro, which Charizard dislikes. Since Charizard hates Stealth Rock, Latias can Defog them away while also having Healing Wish to give Charizard a second chance to sweep. Earthquake is used on Charizard to lure Heatran which hard-counters both Pokemon otherwise.

Reserving Mega-Scizor

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

Latias have a exceptionally good offensive and defensive synergy with Scizor; both can switch into powerful Fire-, Water-, and Electric-type attacks aimed at Scizor, while Scizor itself can switch into Ice-, Dragon-, and Fairy-type attacks. For exemple, Latias can switch into Charizard Y, and fast-Electric types such as Thundurus and Raikou with a little of prediction. In exchange, Scizor-Mega can switch in against Clefable, Sylveon, Weavile. It also enjoys Healing Wish support of Latias.

Reserving mega diancie. Will be done tonight :D

Who could not adore this goddess of a pokemon. I love the design. Anyway

Heart Attack (Diancie) @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 12 Atk / 244 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Earth Power
- Diamond Storm
- Protect

Diancie hits a truck on fire and destroys the pokemon that would otherwise defeat latias such as dark or Ice Types like weavile and bisharp along with opposing dragons like chomp and other latis. It also punishs mons like heatran that attempt to set up rocks on Latias. In Return Latias tanks prioty moves like aqua Jet and deals with the water and grass types that would otherwise threaten Diancie while healing wish gives her a 2nd chance to sweep. Overall the 2 have a nice defensive and offensive synergy

Banned deucer.

Cobalion @ Chople Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 188 HP / 112 Atk / 208 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Volt Switch
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head

Latias is pretty much weak to every Dark type in the tier and that's where Cobalion comes in. Cobalion beats most of the Dark types in the tier, especially Bisharp, Weavile, and Tyranitar while also being able to scare out Fairies such as Mega Gardevoir, Clefable, and Mega Altaria, all of which give Latias trouble.

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Swords Dance

Toxicroak beats Dark types that give Latias trouble as well as being able to rip past Fairies not named Diancie. Latias can also give it a second chance to Wallbreak through Healing Wish.

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch

Mag is a pretty great partner when considering the amazing synergy that the two possess, Latias being able to chew fire and fighting attacks, while also being immune to ground. Magnezone, on the other hand, is able to take ice and dragon attacks, though it isn't recommended you switch it in directly, as Magnezone's biggest asset to Latias is the utility it offers with its ability to trap steel types via Magnet Pull and render them ineffective.

Yo.
Mega Gyara is a good partner for offensive latias in my humble opinion. Gyarados is really good at applying lots of pressure to teams, as well as threatening a sweep. It does very well against all team archtypes and has very good typing synergy with latias, taking ghost, ice and dark type attacks with ease. On the other end latias can tank the electric type and fighting types attack that gyara fears. Also Latias can Healing wish Gyara and prepare it for another sweep incase gyara gets burned twaved or weakened

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 56 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch

This spread Allows gyarados to outspeed Postive nature base 135 (Manec & Lopunny) after a DD and also leaves some evs in hp and defense to help tank attacks from scarf ttar and weavile, which threaten Lati

FalseHopes, Random Passerby, and Vinc608 wins this week. Theurbandear I will add you to HoF don't worry, my bad for overlooking that.

Week 17 - Defensive Mega Venusaur

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 144 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Hidden Power Fire

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 192 SpD / 64 Spe
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Roar

VenuTran is possibly the most generic core ever, but for good reason.

Venusaur is troubled by the likes of Talonflame and Latis while Heatran is troubled by the likes of offensive water types such as Azumarill and Keldeo and some Fighting types such as Conkeldurr. Venusaur easily walls the Pokemon that beat Heatran while Heatran easily beats most of the mons that can break Venusaur. This core has insane defensive synergy and is one of the most popular cores of gen6. Some threats to this core include Bulk Up Talonflame which uses both mons as set up bait, Manaphy with Psychic, Mega Gardevoir, and Tornadus-T with Superpower.

Quoting myself from the Type Cores thread:

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 192 Atk / 4 Def / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Substitute

Mega Venusaur and Gyarados share decent type synergy and defensive synergy as they can check Pokemon each other struggles with. For example, Mega Venusaur easily beats Mega Manectric, Slowbro and Chesnaught which Gyarados struggles against while Gyarados sets up on Jirachi, Gliscor and Volcarona.

Dr Ciel

Reserving Bisharp. :]

Karxrida @ Life Orb / Blackglasses / Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch

Swords Dance Bisharp is an excellent partner for Defensive Mega Venusaur for numerous reasons. Mega Venusaur is troubled by common Psychic types, most notably the Lati Twins and Jirachi & Chansey especially. Bisharp can come in on these and easily dispose of them with his STAB. In return, Mega Venusaur checks Fighting types such as Mega Lopunny, Breloom, and Keldeo while also dealing with Physically bulky walls such as Gliscor, Garchomp, and Quagsire.

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 180 SpD / 80 Spe
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Knock Off
- Roost

Mew is a great supporting pokemon for defensive mega venusaur. This spread allows mew to never be 2hkoed by timid mega alakazam's shadow ball, never to be 2hkoed by 2 draco meteors from life orb latios after rocks and allows for 256 speed to outspeed adamant diggersby and feraligatr. Mew is very good vs most offensive psychics in the tier. The stallbreaker moveset allows to help break stall which defensive mega venu clearly lacks in (stallbreaking that is). I've found that the two make good teammates in my time using mega venu.

tran is really a good teammate, the stallbreaker set can traps chansey (that is really boring for venu) tran helps against Tflame, can be used well in this set also Chople berry, very useful tool vs CloseCombat of Pinsir for example

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind

Sp def Skarmory makes a good defensive partner for Mega Venusaur due to the type synergy that they share being fairly solid, with both only being weak to fire which is mitigated by Mega Venusaur's ability. Spikes support can help to wear down switch ins to Mega Venusaur while Whirlwind is good for racking up hazard damage and keeping set up sweepers in check.

Heatran's already done, sorry.

I'm giving one last day for any late-minute entries. Pretty busy today.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave

Clefable is able to switch in on Lati@s, Sableye, non-Iron Head Kyurem-B and Chansey which counters Mega Venusaur. It also cripples Talonflame, Mega Metagross and Tornadus-T(on the switch) with Thunder Wave. Mega Venusaur helps Clefable to take on Scizor, Bisharp and Tentacruel as well as powerful neutral hits in general. Leech Seed also helps to wear down Heatran which helps Clefable to sweep.

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

Need an answer to opposing priority attacks? A punisher of physical attackers and volt/turn abuse?
Then look no further than half the damn teams on the OU ladder Tankchomp!

Garchomp's tank set is very effective in OU right now, taking on priority spammers such as Scizor and Talonflame.
Their reluctance to switch in for fear of the massive recoil allows our genie to continue dismantling teams. It provides
a blanket check to most volt/turn teams (except for Raikou x_x) and helps to cover for Hoopa-U's gigantic bug weakness. In addition, it helps ensure KO's by getting rocks up and establishes a nice bulky offensive core; chomp having good physical bulk and Hoopa-U being able to live strong special hits.

Do we have to suggest partners assuming ONLY the set listed? Because I personally like using NP Hoopa-B, but different sets require different partners.

I remember that we are allowed to use a different set because I have modified the given set before while nominating partners.

Yeah I'm allowing Nasty Plot Hoopa AND AoA Hoopa this time. You can also tweak the moveslots but not too much, for example you could have like Grass Knot or Knock Off or whatever.

Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Return
- Fake Out
- Ice Punch

Mega Lopunny pairs well with either of Hoopa-U's sets as Hoopa-U easily destroys bulky Psychics, Mega Venusaur, Fairy-types (if running Gunk Shot), Mega Scizor (if running HP Fire) and Skarmory (if running Thunderbolt). In return, Mega Lopunny takes care of Pokemon which attempt to prey on Hoopa-U's low Speed such as Bisharp, Heatran, Landorus-T and Keldeo. However, the core is prone to being cleaned up by Talonflame so a strong check to it is necessary.

Reserving heatran

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power/ Stone Edge
- Flash Cannon/ Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Heatran is one of the best partners for hoopa u because what it does is completely stop most fairies and bugs apart from azu. This thing is offensive stealth rock ( not defensive) because it gets much more immediate power to stop hoopas checks such as scizor which it blocks talon flame , mega pinsir and bisharp. Stone edge is slashed to completely destroy all birds but it comes at the loss of a valuable fairy killing move ( flash cannon) or a move to check stuff like mega manectric. This thing also beats mega venu skarmory and lots of other pokemon which are problems for hoopa u . one recommendation is to have a rapid spin support in the form of bolt beam Starmie which can apply pressure on landorus t and also azumarill which is a big problem for this pair

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Lando-T can tank physical hits aimed at hoopa and with u-turn it can help hoopa to switch in against lando switch ins like Hippo (if you have grass knot) and clefable (if you have gunk shot). The 2 struggle with Bisharp and hard hitting attackers in general so a strong defensive core or revenge killers would suit them well.
