[OVERVIEW]

Dewgong is outclassed by other defensive Water-types such as Pelipper and Politoed, as the former has access to Defog and Roost while the latter has better typing and Scald to wear down its checks. Dewgong has access to Perish Song, which allows it to force out opposing Pokemon, but this means that it has to repeatedly switch in and out, and its weakness to Stealth Rock does not help it. In addition to this, Dewgong lacks a source of reliable recovery outside of Rest, and it cannot run an offensive set, as it is outclassed by other offensive Water-types such as Simipour and Floatzel.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Toxic
move 2: Protect
move 3: Surf / Ice Beam
move 4: Perish Song / Encore
item: Leftovers
ability: Thick Fat
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Toxic allows Dewgong to weaken bulky walls such as Grumpig. Protect allows Dewgong to stall with Toxic and Perish Song and gives it passive recovery. Surf prevents Dewgong from being complete Taunt bait and hits Fire-, Ground-, and Rock-types such as Ninetales, Piloswine, and Golem super effectively. Ice Beam is an option over Surf that hits Grass-types such as Tangela and Gourgeist-XL super effectively. Perish Song allows Dewgong to force out setup sweepers that it cannot touch with Toxic, such as Clefairy and Duosion. Encore allows Dewgong to lock the foe into an unfavorable move.

Set Details
========

This EV spread and a Calm nature maximize Dewgong's special bulk and allows it to take special hits as well as possible from Pokemon such as Simipour and Kadabra. Thick Fat allows Dewgong to blanket check Fire- and Ice-types such as Ninetales and Piloswine. Leftovers provides passive recovery, as Dewgong lacks a reliable recovery move outside of Rest.

Usage Tips
========

Dewgong should try not to switch in when Stealth Rock is up, as it loses quite a bit of health, and should avoid switching on status moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp, as they easily wear it down because of its lack of reliable recovery. Dewgong should try to switch in on predicted Fire-type and Ice-type attacks, but it should be wary of coverage moves such as Ninetales's Energy Ball. Dewgong's aim is to spread status to walls such as Grumpig with Toxic. Dewgong should also force out setup sweepers such as Clefairy and Duosion with Perish Song, which should be used in conjunction with Protect. Stalling foes with Protect and Toxic damage is also recommended, as this is Dewgong's only way of doing decent damage, and it can gain Leftovers recovery as well.

Team Options
========

Dewgong only fits on defensive teams because of its passive nature and ability to tank hits. Defoggers and spinners such as Vibrava, Vullaby, and Torkoal are recommended in order to remove entry hazards such as Stealth Rock from the field and allow Dewgong to stay as healthy as possible. They can also switch in on Grass-type attacks for Dewgong. Ground-types such as Stunfisk and Piloswine are good teammates, as they can handle Electric-type Pokemon such as Raichu for Dewgong and provide Stealth Rock support. Wish passers such as Lickilicky and Hypno are able to provide Wish support; additionally, the former is able to cure status such as poison and burns with Heal Bell. Grass-types such as Roselia and Tangela can take on Rock-types for Dewgong and can act as solid switch-ins for Electric-type attacks. Physically defensive Pokemon, such as Carracosta and Gourgeist-XL, are able to take physical hits for Dewgong, while Dewgong can take special hits.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Fake Out, Aqua Jet, and Ice Shard are able to pick off weakened Pokemon such as Kadabra, but they are quite weak. Drill Run allows Dewgong to hit Electric-types such as Zebstrika, but Dewgong lacks the moveslot for it and Dewgong has a poor attack stat. Substitute could be used to block status such as burn and poison, but it wears Dewgong down more quickly when combined with Stealth Rock damage. Rest combined with Sleep Talk could be used for recovery, but they are unreliable. Disable could be used to cripple Choice Scarf users such as Simipour, but the utility of Perish Song and Encore is preferred.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electric-types such as Zebstrika and Raichu are able to 2HKO Dewgong with their STAB moves, but dislike getting warn down by Toxic and Protect.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Machoke and Monferno are able to KO Dewgong with their Fighting-type moves, but the latter is unable to switch in on Surf. The former is also able to switch in on a Toxic due to Guts.

**Residual Damage**: As Dewgong lacks a source of reliable recovery, it is easily worn down by entry hazards such as Stealth Rock. Status conditions such as burn and poison also wear down Dewgong quite quickly.

**Strong Physical Attackers**: Strong physical attackers, such as Stoutland and Dodrio, are able to outspeed Dewgong and KO it after Stealth Rock damage.

**Grass-types**: Although they dislike Ice Beam and Toxic, Grass-types such as Tangela and Sawsbuck are able to KO Dewgong with their Grass-type STAB moves. Roselia deserves a mention, as it is immune to Toxic and can set up Spikes.

In the overview im not too sure why you compare it to carracosta as it is a physical wall, instead, politoed is a much better comparison as it is also a special wall with access to the same moves dewgong has. I also dont understand the think fat comparison, as piloswine has a completely different role, and grumpig has a completely different typing. Also you really shouldnt be comparing it to an outclassed pokemon.

I would rather the set be toxic/protect/attacking moves/perish song|encore, since protect is really important for recovery along with toxic stalling (which you should mention in moves), and its a must have with perish song

In UT, saying it should avoid switching in if rocks are up is misleading, as its not like you can guarantee rocks wont be up at any point, instead you can say 'try to avoid'. This is similar with status as dewgong is a decentish scald absorber since the two main users hate toxic. You 4th bullet point seems a bit obvious, you should say something like dewgong's main objective is to spread status or similar.

In TO just say defensive teams as stall has questionable viability and balance wouldnt want something that passive if it doesnt wall much. Both golem and piloswine lose to the electric type you mentioned (you dont actually need to mention an electric type in that situation), stunfisk is the best electric check so should be mentioned over golem (pilo is good enough to also be mentioned since it does wall zebby). when you mention Arbok, dont mention shed skin as that isnt a thing, and also why mention that dewgong provides psong support for it when arbok doesnt really benefit from it (this is similar to gogoat when you talk about it setting up bulk ups despite that being irrelevant). I dont get how burning things makes ghosts good team mates to dewgong (actually it prefers toxicing foes since it wears them down more easily w/ protect), and if you are saying that they are good team mates since they take physical hits, just talk about 'Physical walls such as..'

Is frost breath even worth mentioning in oo when it doesnt do much damage to clef/duo

Physical attackers should get a section in c&c imo as a lot can even OHKO w/ rocks

I dont think taunt users are relevant enough to be put in the overview, especcially because missy can lose to dewgong (or will be really low on health at the end). This should also be reflected in c&c

You can mention Torkoal as well for hazard removers as it not only removes hazards, but can also set them and handles Grass-types for Dewgong if it isn't running Ice Beam. I also don't see how Armaldo fits on a defensive team tbh, but if you were just listing examples, that's fine. You can also mention Roselia can set Toxic Spikes as well so Dewgong doesn't waste a turn using Toxic, but its your call.

I don't like mentioning Simisear as something it can take special hits from in set details, Focus Blast and Superpower both donk it. At least simipour, if not something like kadabra
Mention keeping it away from taunt and encore users like grumpig in usage tips, it's not enough to warrant c&c really but something to note
other than that looks good, 3/:3

You used the word "threats" a lot, but with "threats" being generally unidentified, I took the liberty of changing the word to more specific terms such as "checks" and "the opposing Pokemon (the latter especially when referring to status, which can catch everyone). Additionally, while switching in on "a move" is not necessarily incorrect, typically, we simply say switching in on "move", as far as I know. Switched up some weird sentence structure as well.
