Timid Nature

This is a fairly standard set, but its offensive pressure is great. It ohkos most things weak to fairy and covers of few resistances. Trace can be helpful by revealing an opponent's ability or tracing intimidate.

This is my mega kangaskhan, landorus, mega gengar, mega metagross, mega salamence, mega gardevoir, sylveon, and suicune counter. It can take anything these throw at it and deal recoil damage and pick of KOs with gyro ball and seed bomb. I chose seed bomb for accuracy. Leech seed allows it to recover, stall hp, and do more recoil damage.

Hi MG-Absolite :]
this is a very nice mega gardevoir team. its switching synergy is near perfect (bar a flying weakness), which is excellent, and your fwg core compliments gardevoir very well. however i would like to suggest a few alternatives :]

- your team looks like it would appreciate a semi-trick room mode, as running users like timid gardevoir, sassy scrafty, relaxed ferrothorn and naive landorus is counter-productive in tailwind. a great trick room core commonly used on mega gardevoir teams like this is gardevoir/amoonguss/scrafty. these cores usually aim to keep gardevoir alive with rage powder/spore+fake out/intimidate/snarl support whilst gardevoir can sweep through teams with its STAB pixilate hyper voice.

Suggested sets for a TR core:

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 36 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Trick Room
- Protect

- Speed creeps 252 spe adamant bisharp after mega evolving
- Psyshock hits sylveon harder

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 188 HP / 164 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rage Powder
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Protect

- 188 HP maximises regenerator recovery (HP stat is 213, fitting in to the 'Regenerator Nth Term' of 3n+1)
- Survives Mega Kangaskhan double-edge
- Survives choice specs hydreigon fire blast

Scrafty @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 164 Def / 4 SpA / 84 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Snarl

- Survives -1 adamant CB talonflame Brave bird
- Survives life orb jolly terrakion's close combat (no intimidate)
- Survives Charizard Y overheat in sun
- very bulky set, focus on support instead of damage output

***

Here is a suggested framework for mega gardevoir teams, taken from the teambuilding frameworks page for doubles OU (i appreciate that there will be some difference to vgc in this metagame):

Team Roles
1) Mega Gardevoir
2) Fast Offensive Support (mostly Scarf Landorus-T. Tailwind Talonflame/Latios are good alternatives)
3) Bulky Fire Type (Safety Goggles is a great item here to counter amoonguss:
Heatran, Infernape and Arcanine
are great here)
4) Water Defensive Support (possible speed control user (thunder wave/tailwind/trick room), can lower opponents Attack with Intimidate/Will-O-Wisp/Scald:Suicune, Milotic, Rotom-W, Gyarados, Jellicent... )
5) Kangaskhan Check/Counter (mostly carries Intimidate + Fake Out, are "Bulky Attackers", Scrafty is excellent)
6) Wild Card, to complete popular tri-core typing, most teams use Amoonguss

with this in mind i suggest you amend the team with some of these alternatives to suit what you would like:

Your team looks like it would appreciate a semi-trick room mode, as running users like timid gardevoir, sassy scrafty, relaxed ferrothorn and naive landorus is counter-productive in tailwind.
I'd rather no use trick room. It allows gardevoir to take too much damage without benefiting its offensive power, and many trick room users out-class it. I have relaxed scrafty and ferrothorn for particular reasons. Slow ferrothorn boosts it's gyro ball, and slow scrafty under-speeds all aegislash variants and can ohko aegislash in blade form.

I'm taking a more offensive approach to preserving gardevoir. Landorus-I ohkos most threats to gardevior and has the speed to do so before gardevoir attacks. Amoongus is a more passive way to deal with threats and can be easily overwhelmed by offensive threats.

You suggest using Landorus-T, but it requires a choice scarf to outspeed charizard y and talonflame, and is force to switch by defense switch-ins. I also don't need 3 intimidate users and trace gardevoir.

Thanks for the suicune and scrafty sets, I changed my own sets accordingly, but I would rather not change the pokes I use, rather just spreads and movesets. Thanks!

That seems a great way to preserve offensive gardevoir :) i understand the need for slow ferrothorn/scrafty, but middling speed tier teams do need a good form of speed control to keep up momentum, and TR seemed a good option, since tailwind lowered the power of ferrothorn's gyro ball etc. sorry if i suggested too big a change to your team - im sorta new to rmt so i apologise for that :) im glad you like the sets for suicune etc, ill find the damage calcs for them in a bit so you know a bit more about them

Btw i didn't mean having 3x intimidate but keeping that double intimidate core of scrafty/arcanine is good for managing the physical damage done to gardevoir
I was a bit unclear sorry

Also have you thought about ally switch on gardevoir? With your excellent typing synergy, it would be a good method of 'offensive redirection'

these are some damage calcs for the suicune set:
  • +2 252 Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Return vs. 252 HP / 20 Def Suicune: 223-263 (107.7 – 127%) — 3.9% chance to OHKO
  • +1 252+ Atk Aerilate Mega Salamence Return vs. 252 HP / 20 Def Suicune: 177-208 (85.5 – 100.4%) — 6.3% chance to OHKO
  • 252 SpA Choice Specs Thundurus-T Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 116+ SpD Suicune: 182-216 (87.9 – 104.3%) — 18.8% chance to OHKO
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 116+ SpD Suicune: 140-166 (67.6 – 80.1%) — guaranteed 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
  • 252 SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 116+ SpD Suicune: 176-210 (85 – 101.4%) — 6.3% chance to OHKO
  • 252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 116+ SpD Suicune: 116-138 (56 – 66.6%) — 35.2% chance to 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
  • 252+ SpA Pixilate Mega Gardevoir Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 116+ SpD Suicune: 72-85 (34.7 – 41%) — guaranteed 4HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
  • 100 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 168-200 (98.8 – 117.6%) — 93.8% chance to OHKO
  • 100 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Mega Salamence: 156-184 (91.2 – 107.6%) — 43.8% chance to OHKO (Guaranteed after Double-Edge recoil).

Another spread i would like to suggest is for ferrothorn. Although the combo of rocky helmet/iron barbs is amazing for chip damage, Ferrothorn can quickly become deadweight once burned/intimidated, so a good vgc set for ferrothorn is one used by Ray Rizzo to win virginia regionals last year:

Ferrothorn @ Lum Berry
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Atk / 52 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Power Whip/Seed Bomb
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Protect

This set is able to heal Rotom-wash's will-o-wisp and KO back with power whip. its remaining EVs are invested into bulk :) hope this helps

damage calcs for power whip/seed bomb:

  • 204+ Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 44 Def Rotom-W: 158-188 (100.6 - 119.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 204+ Atk Ferrothorn Seed Bomb vs. 252 HP / 44 Def Rotom-W: 104-126 (66.2 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Scrafty @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Protect
btw, without AV scrafty can't survive an overheat from char y:

252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 252 HP / 92 SpD Scrafty in Sun: 175-207 (101.7 - 120.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
//
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 252 HP / 92 SpD Assault Vest Scrafty in Sun: 118-139 (68.6 - 80.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

super fang is probably a better filler option than snarl since you already have a snarl user in arcanine, and super fang allows you to do consistent damage :)

i hope my suggestions help; you have made an excellent team :)

Thanks! But i think ill stick with the defensive switch in ferrothorn and i prefer to carry protect on all my pokes, so I'd rather not run AV scrafty when landorus can ko char y before it overheats.

Nice :) if you want to run leftovers on scrafty, a spread of 164 HP / 188 Def / 156 SpD (sassy nature) would optimize leftovers recovery, as the HP stat at level 50 (HP=161) fits in to the leftovers 'Nth term' of 16n+1 This also survives a -1 life orb terrakion close combat and has a ~30% chance to survive charizard y's overheat :)

252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 164 HP / 156+ SpD Scrafty in Sun: 153-180 (95 - 111.8%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

-1 252 Atk Life Orb Terrakion Close Combat vs. 164 HP / 188 Def Scrafty: 133-159 (82.6 - 98.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 164 HP / 188 Def Scrafty: 126-150 (78.2 - 93.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
