Ponyta (Revamp) [QC 3/3][GP 2/2]

QC: OP / sparktrain / Tricking
GP: P Squared / Snobalt

[OVERVIEW]

Ponyta has great defensive stats and access to recovery in the form of Morning Sun, as well as the ability to burn physical threats with either Flame Body or Will-O-Wisp, making it a great wall that can check threats like Mienfoo and Pawniard. Ponyta possesses a great Speed tier, reaching 19 Speed, and thus being faster than most of the unboosted metagame. It can also run a special set with Sunny Day. However, its mono-Fire typing leaves it weak to entry hazards, and easily revenge killed by Diglett. Ponyta also relies on recoil moves to do damage, which further wears it down.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Flare Blitz is Ponyta's best STAB option, hitting hard even without much Attack investment. Morning Sun provides Ponyta with reliable recovery, allowing it to handle physical threats better and have more opportunities to switch in even with entry hazards up. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical threats, allowing Ponyta to check them. Wild Charge hits Flying-types, such as Archen, as well as weakened Water-types. However, Toxic is usable to beat opposing Fire-types and Porygon, the latter of which can otherwise beat Ponyta one-on-one. Hypnosis lets Ponyta neutralize a threat on the switch by putting it to sleep.

Set Details
========

A Jolly nature with 196 Speed EVs lets Ponyta hit 19 Speed, outspeeding most of the metagame. 76 Attack EVs allow Ponyta's Flare Blitz to OHKO Pawniard 100% of the time after Stealth Rock. 156 Defense and 76 Special Defense EVs give Ponyta 14 in both defenses, which is optimal when using Eviolite. Flame Body is helpful for potentially inflicting burns when Ponyta is switched in on physical attackers.

Usage Tips
========

Take advantage of Ponyta's physical bulk and Speed to switch into physical attackers and burn them. Flare Blitz and Wild Charge are to be used when the opposing Pokemon is in KO range; otherwise, you should try to avoid having Ponyta take recoil damage. Toxic and Hypnosis should be used on predicted switched to a Ponyta check such as Chinchou or Porygon. If entry hazards are up on your side of the field, try to play Ponyta more carefully, as taking entry hazard damage hinders its ability to wall threats. Try to get the entry hazards out of the way as soon as possible. Also, you should play Ponyta carefully when the opponent has Diglett, which revenge kills Ponyta with ease.

Team Options
========

Ponyta appreciates entry hazard removal, so Pokemon with Defog, such as Archen and Vullaby, or Rapid Spin, such as Drilbur and Staryu, are good teammates. Ponyta can also beat common spinblockers for Drilbur and Staryu in return. Pokemon that benefit from physical threats being weakened appreciate Ponyta checking most of them. Grass-types, such as Foongus, Pumpkaboo, Lileep, and Ferroseed, check annoying Water-types that threaten Ponyta, and the latter two can also set up entry hazards. Water-types, such as Slowpoke, handle Rock- and Ground-types for Ponyta. Spritzee is able to aid Ponyta in longevity with Wish, which is nice because entry hazards force Ponyta to use Morning Sun frequently, whittling down the move's PP quickly. Spritzee also appreciates Ponyta's ability to check Steel-types, and Foongus.

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========

Sunny Day allows Ponyta to take less damage from Water-type moves and makes Solar Beam execute in one turn. Under sun, Ponyta also recovers more health with Morning Sun. Fire Blast is Ponyta's best special Fire-type move, and it is especially strong under the sun. Solar Beam is used to catch many of Ponyta's checks, such as Chinchou, off guard and weaken or KO them. Morning Sun is used for longevity and to heal off passive damage from entry hazards and status ailments.

Set Details
========

With 76 Special Attack EVs, Ponyta is able to 2HKO Eviolite Chinchou, and OHKO Berry Juice Chinchou with Solar Beam after entry hazard damage. A Timid nature with 196 Speed EVs maximizes Ponyta's Speed so that it can outspeed as many foes as possible. With 156 Defense and 76 Special Defense EVs, Ponyta's defenses hit even numbers, which are beneficial with an Eviolite. Flame Body can potentially burn physical attackers and cripple them.

Usage Tips
========

Use this set to surprise Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Sun-boosted Fire Blast hits hard, so use it if there's a free opportunity to. Fire / Grass coverage is walled by other Fire-types, so be careful to only use Sunny Day when it benefits Ponyta and not the opposing team. When facing bulkier Pokemon, watch out for Thunder Wave and other status moves. Moreover, when facing teams with Diglett, play carefully with Ponyta, as Diglett always revenge kills Ponyta with ease.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard setters allow Ponyta to beat Sturdy users; furthermore, with either Stealth Rock or a layer of Spikes, Ponyta OHKOes non-Eviolite Chinchou with Solar Beam. Defog or Rapid Spin support from the likes of Archen and Drilbur, respectively, helps Ponyta switch in and out throughout the game. Flying-types such as Fletchling appreciate Ponyta luring out and KOing Chinchou, one of their biggest checks, and dealing with Rock-types. If Ponyta is on a sun team, other Chlorophyll users, such as Bellsprout, can benefit from Sunny Day.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Agility or Flame Charge can be used to let Ponyta outspeed Diglett, but they take up important moveslots. Iron Tail lets Ponyta hit Rock- and Fairy-types without incurring recoil damage. A physical or mixed Life Orb set can be used to pressure teams, as with a Life Orb, Ponyta becomes a strong attacker on its own.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Diglett**: Diglett is able to always revenge kill Ponyta, as it outspeeds it and OHKOes with an Earthquake.

**Water-types**: Water-types resist Ponyta's STAB moves, and most of them can OHKO or 2HKO Ponyta with ease. Defensive Water-type Pokemon, such as Chinchou and Skrelp, give Ponyta more problems over the course of the game, while offensive Water-types, such as Omanyte and Tirtouga, are able to use Ponyta as setup fodder and threaten a sweep. However, Water-types struggle with the SunnyBeam set, and certain ones may not be able to beat Ponyta depending on its coverage.

**Timburr**: Timburr benefits from Will-O-Wisp due to Guts, is able to boost with Bulk Up in front of Ponyta due to its good bulk, and can restore its HP with Drain Punch.

**Residual Damage**: Stealth Rock and Spikes give Ponyta a hard time switching into attacks, as Ponyta one-quarter or more of its HP with Stealth Rock and Spikes up. Toxic also wears down Ponyta, and Morning Sun can be stalled out of PP over the game.

**Paralysis**: If Ponyta gets paralyzed, it loses its, Speed and thus its ability to check many physical threats not at its Speed tier.

**Rock- and Ground-types**: While Rock- and Ground-types do not appreciate getting burned, many, such as Drilbur, can weaken or 2HKO. Onix can take a Solar Beam at full health with Sturdy and can weaken Ponyta.

Overview:
Remove the Eviolite mention
Vulnerable to trapping --> Vulnerable to trapping from Diglett
Gothita isn't much of a problem and the others aren't common enough
Fire Blast's inaccuracy isn't really notable enough to mention here.

Eviolite: Change the name; both sets use Eviolite
Moves:
Toxic is mostly for opposing Fire-types and Porygon, so I'd change the example.

Set Details:
Briefly mention Eviolite and Flame Body and what they do.

Usage Tips:
Toxic or Hypnosis can be used on a predicted switch to a Ponyta check, and Hypnosis to cripple the Pokemon out.
For both sets' Usage Tips maybe add something about being more careful when switching Ponyta in against Diglett teams

Team Options:
Give specific and notable examples! Ones that synergize with Ponyta are best.

Sunny Day:
I think we want to change the EV spread on this set to match the other except with SpA > Atk, but I'll let other QC weigh in on it n_n

Team Options: Examples here too :]

Other Options:
Iron Tail hits Rock-types really hard and allows Ponyta to beat Fairy-types while taking less damage.

QC 1/3, Good work!

Overview
- When you mention the special set, mention that it allows Ponyta to defeat several Water-types that would otherwise serve as solid checks (ik it's said later on but I don't think it'd hurt to be specific here).

Standard
- Add ability description in Set Details, also don't forget to put Jolly + max Speed in the description.
- In Usage Tips (both sets), put a mention somewhere that you need to play a lot more carefully when Ponyta is up against teams with Diglett.
- Team Options could probably use more examples, especially in the hazard removal section since it's pretty vital to Ponyta's success. Like Defog Vulla pairs up pretty nicely, a lot of spinners appreciate Pony since it naturally threatens quite a few common spinblockers courtesy of its offensive typing and speed tier.
- Defensive teammates can be expanded on as well, for example Spritzee to help out with longevity issues, Ferro can go in with the other Grass-types, etc.

Sunny Day
- Rename this SunnyBeam, that's what everyone calls it anyway
- Add ability description in Set Details, Timid mention as well.
- Chlorophyll mons don't really need to be mentioned (at least not first) in Team Options, Pony should primarily be using Sunny Day to benefit itself, plus, Vulpix exists and stuff.
- examples of hazard setters?

Checks and Counters
- Add examples for Water-types (chinchou, tirt, skrelp etc)
- Reword Onix's description (it only lives Solar Beam if it's at full health)
- Pretty much all Rock-/Ground-types despise being burned, even if they can still technically beat Ponyta one-on-one

There was some stuff that was missed when OP gave his check, so I restated them in this post. Tag me once these comments are implemented if you could, just want to make sure this is good to go before the write-up.

Fire-types resist both of Ponyta's coverage options and might take advantage from the weather too, so use Sunny Day only when Ponyta is the only Pokemon which benefits from it. (changed this; I dont' think the fact that Fire-types resist Fire and Grass is related to them taking advantage of Sunny day) When facing more bulky Pokemon, watch out for Thunder Wave and other status moves. Toxic and Hypnosis should be used on predicted switches to a Ponyta check such as Chinchou or Porygon. If entry hazards are up on your side of the field out, try to play Ponyta more carefully, as taking that damage hinders its ability to wall threats. Try to get the hazards out of the way as soon as possible. And, Also, you should play Ponyta carefully when the opponent has Diglett, because Diglett revenge kills Ponyta with ease all the time.

Team Options

Ponyta appreciates entry hazard removal support, so Pokemon with Defog, such as Archen and or Vullaby, or Rapid Spin, like Drilbur or and Staryu, are good teammates help with hazard removal. Ponyta can also beat common spinblockers. Pokemon that benefit from physical threats being weakened appreciate Ponyta checking can be used with Ponyta, as it checks most of them physical threats. Grass-types, such as Foongus, Pumpkaboo, Lileep, or and Ferroseed, (AC) check annoying Water-types that are threatens to Ponyta, and the latter two can also set get up hazards. Water-types, like Chinchou or and Slowpoke, (AC) handle Rock- and Ground-types for Ponyta. And, Spritzee is able to aid Ponyta's in longevity with Wish, which is nice because entry since hazards wear out Morning Sun's PP quickly, so Spritzee can use Wish. Spritzee also appreciates Ponyta's ability to check Steel-types, as well as Foongus.

Moves

Sunny Day is the main move of this set, as it allows Ponyta to take less damage from Water-types, as well as making Solar Beam charge in one turn. It Under the sun, Ponyta also recovers more health with Morning Sun. Fire Blast is Ponyta's best consistant special Fire-type move, and it is especially strong under the sun. Solar Beam is used to catch many of Ponyta's checks, such as Chinchou, off guard and weaken or kill KO them. Morning Sun is for longevity sustain, and to heal off passive damage from entry hazards and status.

Set Details
========

With 76 SpA Special Attack EVs, Ponyta is able to 2HKO Eviolite Chinchou, as well as OHKO (? or 2HKO?) killing Berry Juice Chinchou after hazard damage. A Timid nature plus 196 Speed EVs maximizes Ponyta's Speed so that it can is to get max speed and outspeed as much as possible. With 156 Defense and 76 Special Defense EVs, Ponyta's defenses hits Eviolite numbers defenses. Flame Body is a potential way to burn physical attackers and cripple them.

Usage Tips
========

Use Sunny Day + Solar Beam to surprise to lure (literally not what lure means, sry that's my pet peeve) Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types with Solar Beam after. Sunny Day(dash)boosted Fire Blast hits hard, so use it if there's a free opportunity to. Fire and / Grass coverage is walled by other Fire-types, so be careful to only use Sunny Day when it benefits Ponyta is benefitted, and not when the opponent is by it. When facing more bulky Pokemon, watch out for Thunder Wave and other status moves. And, Finally, when facing Diglett teams, play carefully with Ponyta, as it Diglett always revenge kills Ponyta with ease.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard setters allows Ponyta to beat Sturdy Pokemon; (ASC), as well as killing non Eviolite Chinchou after furthermore, with a layer of hazards (specify; Spikes? SR? either?), Ponyta OHKOes non-Eviolite Chinchou with Solar Beam. Defog or Rapid Spin support, from the likes of Archen or and Drilbur, helps Ponyta switch in and out throughout the game. Fletchinder, and other Flying-types, appreciates like Ponyta luring out and KOing Chinchou, one of its biggest checks, and dealing with Rock-types as well as Rock types getting killed. And, if If Ponyta is on a sun team, other Chlorophyll users, such as Bellsprout, can benefit from Sunny Day.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Agility or Flame Charge can be used to outspeed Diglett, but they take up important moveslots. Iron Tail lets Ponyta hit Rock-types and Fairy-types, as well as Fairies without incurring recoil damage. A physical or mixed Life Orb set thats either physical or mixed can be used to pressure teams.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Diglett**: Diglett is able to always revenge kill Ponyta, as it outspeeds it and OHKOes and kill it off with an Earthquake, and out speeds Ponyta.

**Water-types**: Water-types resist Ponyta's main STAB options, and most can OHKO or 2HKO Ponyta with ease. Defensive Water-type Pokemon, like Chinchou or and Skrelp, give Ponyta more problems over the course of the game, while offensive Water-types, like Omanyte or and Tirtouga, are able to use Ponyta as setup fodder and threaten with a sweep while Ponyta is in. (is that correct?) However, Water-types struggle with Sunny Day. Depending on Ponyta's coverage, one or another Water-type can deal with Ponyta.

**Timburr**: Timburr benefits from Will-O-Wisp with Guts, is able to boost with Bulk Up in front of along Ponyta due to its good bulk, and can heal its HP with Drain Punch.

**Residual Damage**: Stealth Rock and Spikes make give Ponyta have a hard time switching into attacks, as Ponyta takes a quarter or more with Stealth Rock and Spikes up. Toxic also wears down Ponyta, and Ponyta can be stalled out of Morning Suns PP over the game.

**Paralysis**: If Ponyta gets paralyzed, it loses its speed, and it uses its speed and, with it, its ability to check many physical threats not at its Speed tier.

**Rock- and Ground-types**: While Rock- and Ground-types do not appreciate getting burned, many, such as Drilbur, can still handle ponyta with a 2kho, or weaken or 2HKO it ponyta, such as drilbur. Onix can take a Solar Beam if at full health with Sturdy, (RC) and can weaken Ponyta.

[OVERVIEW]

Ponyta has great defensive stats and access to recovery in the form of Morning Sun, as well as the ability to burn physical threats with either Flame Body or Will-O-Wisp, making it a great staple wall to that can check threats like Mienfoo and Pawniard. Ponyta possesses a great Speed tier, reaching 19 Speed, and is and thus being faster than most of the unboosted metagame. It can also run a special set with Sunny Day. However, its mono-Fire typing leaves it weak to entry hazards, as well as and easily revenge killed by Diglett. Ponyta also relies on recoil moves to do damage, which further wears it down.

Flare Blitz is Ponyta's best STAB option, as hitting hard even without much Attack investment. Morning Sun provides Ponyta with reliable recovery, allowing it to handle physical threats better and have more opportunities to switch into even with entry hazards, and handle physical threats better up. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical threats, allowing and allows Ponyta to check physical threats them. Wild Charge hits Flying-types, such as Archen, as well as weakened Water-types. However, Toxic is usable to beat opposing Fire-types, (RC) and Porygon, the latter of which can otherwise beat Ponyta 1v1 one-on-one. Hypnosis lets Ponyta neutralize a threat on the switch by putting it to sleep.

Set Details
========

A Jolly nature with 196 Speed EVs lets Ponyta hit 19 Speed, outspeeding most of the metagame. 76 Attack EVs allow Ponyta's Flare Blitz to OHKO Pawniard 100% of the time after Stealth Rock. 156 Defense and 76 Special Defense EVs gives Ponyta 14 in both defenses, which is an Eviolite number (perhaps explain what this means?). Flame Body is helpful for potentially inflicting burns when Ponyta is switched in on physical attackers.

Usage Tips
========

Take advantage of Ponyta's physical bulk and speed Speed to switch into physical attackers, (RC) and burn them afterwards. Burning threats with either Will-O-Wisp or Flame Body is ideal. (Do you really need this?) Flare Blitz and Wild Charge are to be used when the opposing Pokemon is in KO range; otherwise, you should try to avoid having Ponyta take taking recoil damage. Toxic and Hypnosis should be used on predicted switched to a Ponyta check such as Chinchou or Porygon. If entry hazards are up on your side of the field, try to play Ponyta more carefully, as taking that entry hazard damage hinders its ability to wall threats. Try to get the entry hazards out of the way as soon as possible. Also, you should play Ponyta carefully when the opponent has Diglett, because Diglett which revenge kills Ponyta with ease.

Team Options
========

Ponyta appreciates entry hazard removal support (redundant and clunky imo), so Pokemon with Defog, such as Archen and Vullaby, or Rapid Spin, like such as Drilbur and Staryu, are good teammates. Water-types, like such as Chinchou and Slowpoke, handle Rock- and Ground-types for Ponyta. (Are you sure Chinchou can take on Ground-types? Idk if it's my place to ask, as I haven't played LC since the Open, but I'm just curious.) Spritzee is able to aid Ponyta in longevity with Wish, which is nice because entry hazards force Ponyta to use wear out Morning Sun's frequently, whittling down the move's PP quickly. Spritzee also appreciates Ponyta's ability to check Steel-types, as well as and Foongus.

Moves

Sunny Day allows Ponyta to take less damage from Water-types, as well as making moves and makes Solar Beam charge execute in one turn. Under the sun, Ponyta also recovers more health with Morning Sun. Fire Blast is Ponyta's best special Fire-(AH)type move, and it is especially strong under the sun. Solar Beam is used to catch many of Ponyta's checks, such as Chinchou, off guard and weaken or KO them. Morning Sun is used for longevity, (RC) and to heal off passive damage from entry hazards and status ailments.

Set Details
========

With 76 Special Attack EVs, Ponyta is able to 2HKO Eviolite Chinchou, as well as and OHKO Berry Juice Chinchou with Solar Beam after entry hazard damage. A Timid nature plus with 196 speed Speed EVs maximizes Ponyta's Speed so that it can outspeed as much many foes (subjective) as possible. With 156 Defense and 76 Special Defense EVs, Ponyta's defenses hit Eviolite numbers (again not sure what it means). Flame Body is a can potentially way to burn physical attackers and cripple them.

Usage Tips
========

Use Sunny Day + Solar Beam this set to surprise Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Sun-(AH)boosted Fire Blast hits hard, so use it if there's a free opportunity to. Fire / Grass coverage is walled by other Fire-types, so be careful to only use Sunny Day when it benefits Ponyta, (RC) and not the opponent foe (or "opposing team" if that's what you're referring to). When facing more bulky bulkier Pokemon, watch out for Thunder Wave and other status moves. Finally Moreover, when facing teams with Diglett teams, play carefully with Ponyta, as Diglett always revenge kills Ponyta with ease.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard setters allow Ponyta to beat Sturdy Pokemon users; furthermore, with either Stealth Rock or a layer of Spikes or Stealth Rock, Ponyta OHKOes non-Eviolite Chinchou with Solar Beam. Defog or Rapid Spin support, (RC) from the likes of Archen or and Drilbur, respectively, helps Ponyta switch in and out throughout the game. Fletching, and other Flying-types, (RC) such as Fletchling appreciates Ponyta luring out and KOing Chinchou, one of its their biggest checks, and dealing with Rock-types. If Ponyta is on a sun team, other Chlorophyll users, such as Bellsprout, can benefit from Sunny Day.

Checks and Counters

**Diglett**: Diglett is able to always revenge kill Ponyta, as it outspeeds it and OHKOes with an Earthquake. (period)

However, Water-types struggle with the SunnyBeam set, and certain ones may not be able to beat Ponyta depending on its coverage Day. Depending on Ponyta's coverage, one or another Water-type can deal with Ponyta.

**Timburr**: Timburr benefits from Will-O-Wisp with due to Guts, is able to boost with Bulk Up in front of Ponyta due to its good bulk, and can heal restore its HP with Drain Punch.
