Okay, so the winner this time is The Reptile with both Mega Bellossom and Mega Tropius, so grats to him! We'll have a new slate ready very soon, so you can discuss for now.

Limitations

Torkoal: Ability limitation of 4 and is allowed 2 new moves

Torterra: Ability limitation of 3.5 and is allowed 1 new move

Carracosta: Ability limitation of 3.5 and is allowed 1 new move

While not a restriction per se, it's advised to think hard about any Megas you make if you plan to base them on Shell Smash, since this move can potentially be pretty game breaking. You can make something fast or powerful, but make sure to think long and hard about what can beat your submission; if you can't think of any counters, it's probably too powerful.

Announcements

We have two bits of news this time around. First, we've moved Simple up from 4 to 4.5 on the ability list. And second, we've decided to have 3 Pokemon per slate, which should speed up the completion of this project exponentially.

Submissions will be open for about a week, so get your submissions in while you can. Good luck!

Torkoal

Fire → Fire/Steel

HP: 70 → 70 (0)

Atk: 85 → 100 (+15)

Def: 140 → 155 (+15)

SpA: 85 → 125 (+40)

SpD: 70 → 100 (+30)

Spe: 20 → 20 (0)

BST: 470 → 570

Shell Armor/White Smoke → Filter

New Moves: Flash Cannon

  • A secondary steel typing is very important for Torkoal. It removes its weakness to Stealth Rock and renders it immune to poison, making it more difficult to wear down.

  • Good defensive stats and solid special attack allows Torkoal to work either as a bulky spinner or offensive with Shell Smash.

  • Filter makes taking hits a little bit easier as Torkoal can sponge weaker super effective moves without being KO'ed.

  • Very slow and Fire/Steel gives Torkoal some very common weaknesses, including a crucial 4x weakness to ground.
Torterra

Grass/Ground → Grass/Ground

HP: 95 → 95 (0)

Atk: 109 → 145 (+36)

Def: 105 → 145 (+40)

SpA: 75 → 89 (+14)

SpD: 85 → 95 (+10)

Spe: 56 → 56 (0)

BST: 525 → 625

Overgrow/Shell Armor → Thick Fat

  • Great attack and physical bulk. Solid special bulk as well in combination with reliable recovery allows Torterra to run a bulkier set too.
  • Thick Fat removes Torterra's fire type weakness and makes its weakness to ice much less threatening.
  • While Rock Polish can boost Torterra's speed to respectable levels, it's quite slow without a boost. Even with a boost from Rock Polish, Torterra is outsped by common scarf users in OU.

Carracosta

Rock/Water → Rock/Water

HP: 74 → 74 (0)

Atk: 108 → 140 (+32)

Def: 133 → 150 (+17)

SpA: 83 → 95 (+12)

SpD: 65 → 86 (+21)

Spe: 32 → 50 (+18)

BST: 495 → 595

Solid Rock/Sturdy/Swift Swim → Solid Rock

  • High 140 base attack makes Carracosta scary even without a Shell Smash boost. Its good 74/150/86 bulk also makes it relatively easy for it to try and setup.

  • 50 base speed is a significant upgrade for Carracosta. At + max speed the only unboosted Pokemon that outspeed it after a boost are the rare 140+ base Pokemon.

  • Still slow without a boost, and there are a ton of common choice scarf users that can outspeed Carracosta after a boost. Even with Solid Rock reducing the damage of super effective attacks by a bit, Shell Smash's secondary effects means Carracosta is going to take serious damage.

Torkoal Mega
Ability: Multiscale
Typing:

Stats: 70 / 65 (-20) / 170 (+30) / 135 (+50) / 110 (+40) / 20 (+0) [BST 570 (+100)]
Movepool Additions: Recover, Flash Cannon
Description (Competitive): Torkoal becomes very bulky with 70/160/110 bulk, especially with its new Multiscale ability, which pairs up nicely with its new access to Recover. Its Fire / Steel typing is rather good, although it suffers from a 4x weakness to SR and neutrality to Fire-type moves. While it does compete with Heatran, its access to Multiscale and higher bulk let it stand out.

Torterra Mega
Ability: Solid Rock
Typing:

Stats: 95 / 159 (+50) / 125 (+20) / 75 (+0) / 115 (+30) / 56 (+0) [BST 625 (+100)]
Movepool Additions: Slack Off
Description (Competitive): It now has a mighty 95/125/115 bulk and a decent ability in Solid Rock, which helps out its weak-ish typing. The most notable thing, however, is its huge 159 base attack, which will cause its Earthquakes and Wood Hammers to hurt. To top it all off, it now has access to Slack Off, giving it a reliable recovery move to truly abuse its new stats.

Carracosta Mega
Ability: Water Absorb
Typing:

Stats: 74 / 143 (+35) / 148 (+15) / 93 (+10) / 85 (+20) / 52 (+20) [BST 595 (+100)]
Movepool Additions: Rapid Spin
Description (Competitive): Water Absorb might seem like a strange move, but the idea behind it is that it gives Carracosta a chance to set-up on other Water-types while also making it a decent Scald switch-in. With its natural access to Shell Smash, Carracosta becomes a threatening Pokemon. It has usable 143 attack and a speed that is just usable enough with Shell Smash that it can outspeed things like Latios with an Adamant nature, but balanced in a way that it still gets revenge killed by Choice Scarfers.

Mega Torterra
Ability
: Overgrow/Shell Armor -> Intimidate
Typing: Grass/Ground
Stats:
HP: 95 -> 95
Atk: 109 -> 149 (+40)
Def: 105 -> 145 (+40)
SpA: 75 -> 75
SpD: 85 -> 95 (+10)
Speed: 56 -> 66 (+10)
Total: 525 -> 625 (+100)
Added Moves: Slack Off
Descriptions:

Mega Torkoal
Ability
: Levitate
Typing: Fire/Dragon
Stats: 70/75(-10)/170(+30)/145(+60)/90(+20)/20 BST:570
New Moves: Dragon Pulse, Recover
Design: Mega Torkoal's design remains pretty similar to regular Torkoal, it's body is bigger, and it has a more intimidating face. The smoke coming out it's shell now has fire along with the smoke. Now why does Torkoal get levitate? A lot of Mega Torkoal's design is based on the Turtle Kaiju Gamera. Gamera can fly by tucking it's back legs into it's shell and replaces them with fire, and that is how Mega Torkoal is able to levitate.
Competitive Description: Mega Torkoal has a very good typing and ability. It is only weak to dragon and rock type moves, the former can be stopped by a fairy type partner. It's Ability also makes it immune to spikes, toxic spikes and sticky webs, and it gets rapid spin to remove them. It's boosted defense will make it be able to stop physical attackers in their tracks. It also gains the move Dragon Pulse, a reliable stab, and Recover, reliable recovery. The boost to special attack will make it a force to be reckoned with, except for one problem. It's speed is too low to run a sweeping set. The best option for going offensive is trick room.

Mega Torterra
Ability
: Evergreen (Volt Absorb clone) Ice Type moves heal the this Pokemon, instead of hurting them
Typing: Grass/Ground
Stats: 95/154(+45)/105/55(-20)/95(+10)/121(+65) BST:625
New Moves: Shell Smash
Design:WIP
Competitive Description: Fast Torterra! Mega Torterra has boosted physical attack and heavily boosted speed and a new ability that makes it immune to Ice type attack. Shell Smash allows it to boost it's speed and attack to very high levels. it wont live many attacks after one shell smash, but it's bulk is decent.

Mega Carracosta
Ability
: Rock Head
Typing: Rock/Water
Stats: 74/138(+30)/143(+10)/83/105(+40)/52(+20) BST:595
New Moves: Head Smash
Design:WIP
Competitive Description: Simple steps on how to win with this pokemon. Step 1: Shell Smash, Step 2: Head Smash, Step 3: Win. It is that easy to sweep with this pokemon. It gains a lot of special defense, so it might be able to live one grass type attack.

Mega Torkoal

Typing: Fire / Rock
Ability: Dry Skin

Stats:
HP: 70 -> 70 (+0)
Atk: 85 -> 115 (+30)
Def: 140 -> 150 (+10)
SpA: 85 -> 115 (+30)
SpD: 70 -> 70 (+0)
Spe: 20 -> 50 (+30)

Additional Moves:
+ Power Gem
+ Flare Blitz

Description: Torkoal would make a rather decent Shell Smasher due to its excellent offensive STAB combo; it can threaten steel types as well as the multitude of flying types that resist its Fire type STAB. However, its Speed is still garbage without a boost, and it has a rather poor defensive typing. With that in mind, I gave the tortoise Dry Skin, an ability that really helps it. Mega Torkoal can now set up on Choice locked Azumarill, Keldeo, and Volcanion, and pretty much any variants of Manaphy (and also can't be revenge killed by Azu). Even with Dry Skin, Torkoal has a 3x resistance to Fire. With a boosting nature, it can outspeed base 135s after a Shell Smash. It can go either physical or special; its physical moves possess higher base power while going special partially circumvents Lando-T problems.

Mega Carracosta
Ability:
Moxie
Typing: Rock | Water
Stats: 74 | 148 (+40) | 143 (+10) | 83 | 95 (+30) | 52 (+20)
New Move: Icicle Crash
Desc.: Carracosta becomes a heavily physically inclined Shell Smash sweeper. After a Shell Smash, it gets enough speed to outspeed at least base 100 mons, and enough attack to clear through mons that don't resist it. Icicle Crash can be used to get rid of most pesky Grass types. Since it loses Solid Rock, super effective moves on the special side are more dangerous than ever, as well as priority. Unlike its base form, mixed sets are not recommended.

Mega Torterra
Ability:
Lithoskin (litosphere+skin) (Dry Skin clone, Sun/Fire and Rain/Water are reversed)
Typing: Grass | Ground
Stats: 95 | 150 (+41) | 140 (+35) | 75 | 90 (+5) | 65 (+19)
New Move: Dragon Tail
Desc.: Torterra almost becomes base Groudon, with Attack, Defense and Special Defense equal to the other Continent Pokemon, and a newfound love for the sun. It's ability gives it a new immunity to a previous weakness, as well as some form of passive healing when the sun is up. On the other hand, the neutral hit of Water types becomes a weakness, which could be a problem if Torterra doesn't get rid of them with its super effective Grass type STAB. Mega Torterra shines against the likes of Mega Charizard X and Y, absorbing their Fire type attacks and hitting back super effectively, and possibly getting Sun recovery with Y's Drought. Dragon Tail increases Torterra's similarities with Groudon, since it is able to perform the exact same physically defensive support role with it, albeit without Leftovers and less HP and speed.

Mega Torkoal
Ability:
No Guard
Typing: Fire
Stats: 70 | 125(+40) | 130(-10) | 125(+40) | 60(-10) | 60(+40)
New Move: Focus Blast, Flare Blitz
Design: Torkoal burns its own shell for more fuel, making it crack at the top. Instead of smoke coming out of his back, huge flames can be seen.
Desc.: Torkoal sets its flames free and becomes an all-out attacker. Inferno allows it to pass burns while at the same time dealing good damage. Shell Smash can further increase its high offenses and give it some decent speed, lowering its defenses even more than mega evolving. Torkoal's special movepool is fixed with Focus Blast, giving it Fire, Ground, Poison and Fighting moves to choose from. On the physical side, Torkoal finally gets a good physical Fire type move, and has Ground, Fighting, Steel and Rock options as well. Stone Edge and Iron Tail can finally be used safely because of No Guard

Mega Torkoal
Ability:
Contrary
Typing: Fire
HP: 70 (+0)
Attack: 95 (+10)
Defense: 160 (+20)
Special Attack: 115 (+30)
Special Defense: 85 (+15)
Speed: 45 (+25)
New Moves: Superpower and Slack Off
Design: Taking Torkoal's old feel a bit further, Torkoal becomes senile. It disagrees with everything everyone says, hence the contrary ability.
Description: Torkoal is no longer a one trick pony and can now pull of several roles successfully. It can run similar to Serperior with it's contrary overheat or be more Malamar-esk with superpower spam (I feel a combination of these sets would be most effective). With such great physical bulk, the snowballing mechanic and having access to sustain, Mega Torkoal might seem very difficult to deal with. In the end, it's sub-par special bulk lets it down, making it not broken. Shell smash gains a unique dynamic as well, acting as a cosmic power in exchange for offenses. Not only can shell smash be used on defensive sets, but it is surprisingly viable on offensive ones too. By using shell smash pre-mega, Torkoal can outspeed pokemon as fast as Mega Lopunny and proceed to spam it's contrary attacks.

Mega Torterra
Ability:
Frostbite (Ice type flash fire clone)
Typing: Grass/Ground
HP: 95 (+0)
Attack: 159 (+50)
Defense: 125 (+20)
Special Attack: 85 (+10)
Special Defense: 105 (+20)
Speed: 56 (+0)
New Move: Ice Fang
Design: Torterra becomes covered in snow and the leaves on it's tree fall off. Large icicles hang from the rim or Mega Torterra's shell and the spikes on it's cheeks and back become coated in ice. The red in it's eyes becomes more prominent as well.
Description: With it's 4x ice weakness removed, Torterra can finally set up without worrying about HP ice out of the blue. It has few switch-ins with the addition of ice fang to it's coverage, and since it's slower than Skarmory, earthquake can hit it for super effective after roost. With improved bulk, it can also utilize curse sets very effectively, or even curse/amnesia! Leech seed, aromatherapy and synthesis make for good sustain. The best way to deal with Mega Torterra is bulky steels not weak to ground such as Mega Scizor and Ferrothorn. Depending on the set, however, superpower can make short work of specially defensive Ferrothorn, while the off-meta HP fire can deal with Scizor without much special attack investment. Similarily to Mega Torkoal, you never know what it has up it's sleeve.

Mega Carracosta
Ability:
Sheer Force
Typing: Water/Rock
HP: 74 (+0)
Attack: 138 (+30)
Defense: 148 (+15)
Special Attack: 128 (+45)
Special Defense: 85 (+20)
Speed: 22 (-10)
New Move: Fire Punch
Description: With sheer force and much improved offenses, Mega Carracosta becomes an offensive nightmare. Shell smash becomes much less viable due to a speed drop, outspeeding only base 93 at a +2 speed. It has a very diverse coverage pool, capable of abusing ancient power, aqua jet, waterfall, rock slide, crunch, fire punch, earth power, earthquake, focus blast, ice beam, iron head, knock off, low kick, scald, superpower and zen headbutt, which hits all pokemon except dark/psychic, fighting/psychic and various water types for super effective. A true pain to deal with, Mega Carracosta has incredible coverage, balanced only by it's weak defensive typing and low speed.

Mega Carracosta
Ability:
Mold Breaker
Typing: Water / Rock
Stats: 74 | 138 (+30) | 153 (+20) | 103 (+20) | 75 (+10) | 52 (+20)
New Move: Head Smash
Desc: The Pokedex talks about how it's able to chew through steel beams, and put holes in the bottom of a tanker, so I thought Mold Breaker would be a good fit for it. It still retains many of Carracosta's flaws however.

Mega Torterra
Ability:

Mega Torkoal
Type:
Fire --> Fire/Poison
Ability: White Smoke/Shell Armor --> Oblivious
Stats:
HP:
70 --> 70 (+0)
Atk: 85 --> 85 (+0)
Def: 140 --> 180 (+40)
SpA: 85 --> 105 (+20)
SpD: 70 --> 110 (+40)
Spe: 20 --> 20 (+0)
New Move: Slack Off
Description: With Mega Evolution, Torkoal's oven-like shell gets potent enough to now constantly spew a toxic cloud of smog, turning it into a Fire/Poison type. In all respects, Mega Torkoal is a defensive Mega with the tools to counter those who try to go against its defensive nature. Mega Torkoal has a crazy good Defense stat and solid Special Defense, and while it's weak to Rock, Water, Psychic and quad weak to Ground, Mega Torkoal also resists Fire, Poison, Fighting, Ice and Steel, and also has a double resistance to Bug, Grass and Fairy. Oblivious means that Mega Torkoal can't be Taunted as it goes around setting up Stealth Rocks and Slacking Off. Access to Rapid Spin also means that you can't just setup entry hazards against it, while access to Clear Smog also means you can't set up against it. Mega Torkoal is, however, very slow, with average attacking power and low HP that can be exploited.

Mega Torterra
Type:
Grass/Ground --> Grass/Ground
Ability: Overgrow/Shell Armor --> Rock Head
Stats:
HP:
95 --> 95 (+0)
Atk: 109 --> 150 (+41)
Def: 105 --> 135 (+30)
SpA: 75 --> 84 (+9)
SpD: 85 --> 105 (+20)
Spe: 56 --> 56 (+0)
New Move: Head Smash
Description: An all-around balanced Mega, befitting its starter Pokémon nature, Mega Torterra is burly green giant with an amazing attack stat and and an ability that allows it to spam Wood Hammers and do EdgeQuake cores with Head Smash without a drop of recoil. While naturally very slow, Mega Torterra can take a non-Ice type hit or two and then use Rock Polish to fix up its bad speed, at which point you can at late-game wreck havoc with Wood Hammers, Earthquakes, and Head Smashes.

Mega Carracosta
Type:
Water/Rock --> Water/Dark
Ability: Solid Rock/Sturdy/Swift Swim --> Water Veil
Stats:
HP:
74 --> 74 (+0)
Atk: 108 --> 148 (+40)
Def: 133 --> 113 (-20)
SpA: 83 --> 113 (+20)
SpD: 65 --> 95 (+30)
Spe: 32 --> 62 (+30)
New Move: Ice Punch
Description: Just like how Mega Evolution reverted Aerodactyl back to its original rocky appearance (not making this up), Mega Evolution breaks off all the excess rock from around Carracosta, and along other slight changes, reverts it back to its appearance from back when it was the terror of primordial seas, the king of the coast, with a Water/Dark typing. The rock breaking off decreases Carracosta's defense stat slightly, though also exponentially increasing its speed and special defense stat. Carracosta's Attack and Special Attack also gain a significant boost, and if running Sturdy at base form, you can set-up Shell Smash to then wreck havoc among many teams with a dual STAB of Waterfall and Crunch/Knock Off alongside a terrifying Aqua Jet. Water Veil means that you can't even burn this guy, which can really screw up another player's game. Mega Carracosta isn't invincible though, as something like an Azumarill can wall it if not running coverage like Stone Edge or Earth Power, and even after a possible first-turn Sturdy, Carracosta is still much weak to faster priority users, especially Mach Punch users.

Mega Torkoal
Ability:
Sturdy
Typing: Fire/Steel
HP: 70 (+0)
Attack: 115 (+30)
Defense: 165 (+25)
Special Attack: 95 (+10)
Special Defense: 105 (+35)
Speed: 20 (+0)
New Moves: Heavy Slam and Flash Cannon
Design: Torkoal would look pretty much the same except his shell would be made out of pure steel, giving him the steel type.
Description: Increasing Torkoal's Special Defense and Defense would make it more bulky and it can with stand powerful psychic type moves. Adding a steel type would get rid of it's weakness to rock and give it a lot more resistances. Increasing it's attack and weight would give heavy slam some more power. Giving it sturdy would make it a great suicide lead to set up rocks. You can make it a physical sweeper by taking advantage of its heavy weight by using heavy slam or you can make it a special sweeper by using Flash Cannon and Lava Plume.

Mega Torterra
Ability:
Rock Head
Typing: Grass/Rock
HP: 95 (+0)
Attack: 159 (+50)
Defense: 135 (+30)
Special Attack: 75 (+0)
Special Defense: 105 (+20)
Speed: 56 (+0)
New Move: Head Smash
Design: Instead of having a forest on it's shell it will have a canyon.
Description: Increasing it's physical defense would make it seem more like a rock type. Giving it a secondary rock type would remove it's 4x's ice weakness and it's flying and fire weakness in general. Giving it Rock Head will allow it too use powerful attacks like Wood Hammer and it's new Head Smash without taking damage.

Mega Carracosta
Ability:
Mega Protection (thick fat clone) This pokemon takes 1/2 damage from fighting and ground type moves.
Typing: Water/Steel
HP: 74 (+0)
Attack: 148 (+40)
Defense: 143 (+20)
Special Attack: 113 (+30)
Special Defense: 85 (+20)
Speed: 22 (-10)
New Move: Gyro Ball
Design: similar to Mega Torkoal (see above)
Description: Giving Carracosta a steel typing instead of a rock typing will get rid of it's Grass weakness in it's entirety. It's new ability Mega Protection will also nullify it's Fighting and Ground weakness. Decreasing it's speed stat and giving it Gyro Ball combined with curse will help Carracosta sweep easily.

Torkoal Mega
Ability: Mud Absorb (Water Absorb clone, but for Ground)
Typing: Fire/Steel
Stats:
70 / 60 (-25) / 155 (+15) / 135 (+50) / 110 (+40) / 40 (+20) [BST 570 (+100)]
Movepool Additions: Recover, Flash Cannon
Description : Torkoal abuses its great typing + Immunity to Ground type moves to great effect, being either an excellent tank or a surprise set up sweeper. 70/155/110 bulk is no joking matter, and while it faces competition from Heatran as a defensive Fire/Steel type, Recover, Shell Smash and Mud Absorb sets it apart.

Torterra Mega
Ability: Thick Fat
Typing: Grass/Ground
Stats:
95 / 150 (+41) / 134 (+29) / 75 (+0) / 110 (+25)/ 61 (+5) [BST 625 (+100)]
Movepool Additions: Slack Off
Description: Torterra-Mega is an offensive tank that checks alot of Pokes thanks to its ability Thick Fat and Access to recovery in Slack Off. 150 Atk is no joking matter, With STAB Earthquake and Wood Hammer to back it up.

Torkoal-Mega
Ability: White Smoke / Shell Armor ----> Aquate (Water-type -ate)
Typing: Fire ----> Fire/Water

Stats:

HP: 70
Attack: 85 ----> 125 (+40)
Defense: 140 ----> 140
Special Attack: 85 ----> 85
Special Defense: 70 ----> 130 (+60)
Speed: 20 ----> 20
Base Stat Total: 470 ----> 570
Movepool Additions: Slack Off, Surf
Description: A poor man's Volcanion, at least in terms of defensive properties.

Torterra-Mega
Ability: Overgrow / Shell Armor ----> (Ice-type clone of Sap Sipper, name needed)
Typing: Grass/Ground

Stats:

HP: 95
Attack: 109 ----> 150 (+41)
Defense: 105 ----> 125 (+20)
Special Attack: 75 ----> 85 (+10)
Special Defense: 85 ----> 115 (+30)
Speed: 56 ----> 55 (-1)
Base Stat Total: 525 ----> 625
Movepool Additions: Slack Off
Description: Bulky attacker. With its ability, it has an excellent defensive typing, resisting EdgeQuake and being immune to BoltBeam. Even with Choice Band, Talonflame's Brave Bird is not a sure OHKO, and Torterra can OHKO Talonflame with Rock Slide. However, Torterra can easily be handled by Scizor variants that have Bug Bite, Mega Charizard X, and almost any powerful Special Attacker with super-effective STAB.

iving it sturdy would make it a great suicide lead to set up rocks or it can activate a weakness policy to sweep. You would increase it's speed by using autotomize.
Dude, you can't give Mega Torkoal a Weakness Policy, it needs to hold a Mega Stone lmao.

Also, isn't having both Heavy Slam and Autotomize a bit counter-intuitive?

Torkoal-Mega
Type: Fire -> Fire/Rock
Ability: White Smoke/Shell Armour -> No Guard
HP: 70 -> 70 (+0)
Attack: 85 -> 125 (+40)
Defence: 140 -> 130 (-10)
Special Attack: 85 -> 125 (+40)
Special Defence: 70 -> 110 (+40)
Speed: 20 -> 10 (-10)
New Moves: Rock Wrecker, Recover
Explanation: Torkoal's Shell grows Massive and lava pours out of it, slowing it down and making it a big target, but increasing it to become a balanced mixed attacker. No Guard means that it can rain down Rock Wrecker and/or Inferno without fear of missing (seriously, can you dodge a volcano?). With a really low speed stat, Torkoal has to rely on bulking through hits, which it can do, and you have a more difficult time using Recover than you would think.

And why fire/rock? Because I thought Torkoal actually was Fire/Rock until I looked it up.

Torterra-Mega
Type: Grass/Ground -> Grass/Rock
Ability: Overgrow/Shell Armour -> Acclimatize (Lightningrod Clone, Immune to Ice-type attacks, raises Speed when being hit by an Ice-Type attack.)
HP: 95 -> 95 (+0)
Attack: 109 -> 109 (+0)
Defence: 105-> 145 (+30)
Special Attack: 75 -> 85 (+10)
Special Defence: 85 -> 125 (+40)
Speed: 56 -> 76 (+20)
New Moves: Bulk Up
Explanation: Torterra is awesome, but it needed a complete design overhaul to be viable. Here's my answer: Remove as many of the weaknesses as possible. The change to Grass/Rock stops it from being completely dropped by Talonflame's Gale Wings Brave Bird, and Acclimatize removes the dreaded Ice Weakness, and also gives it a free Speed boost (IE Mountain Climbers getting used to the thinner air and gaining energy, thus climbing the mountain faster.), and Bulk Up lets it set itself up. Making a set of Seed Bomb/Earthquake or Synthesis/Stone Edge/Bulk Up effective.

Carracosta-Mega
Type: Water/Rock -> Water
Ability: Solid Rock/Sturdy/Swift Swim -> Swift Swim
HP: 74 -> 74 (+0)
Attack: 108 -> 158 (+50)
Defence: 133 -> 83 (-50)
Special Attack: 83 -> 133 (+50)
Special Defence: 65 -> 65 (+0)
Speed: 32 -> 82 (+50)
New Moves: N/A
Explanation: I gave the other two rock type, so I decided to remove rock in favour of pure water. Swift Swim makes Carracosta Fast, and Carracosta trades defences for strong mixed attack stats. Not really much to say. It's like a poor man's mega swampert.

EDIT: Changed Bulk up for Shell Smash on Mega Torterra to fit with the turtle theme.
EDIT2: Changed it back. Decided I liked Bulk Up more.

Base Stats:
HP:
74 ---> 74 (+0)
Attack: 108 ---> 158 (+50)
Defense: 133 ---> 65 (-68)
Special Attack: 83 ---> 133 (+50)
Special Defense: 65 ---> 65 (+0)
Speed: 32 ---> 100 (+68)

Design: Carracosta loses its bulky shell, revealing a less bulky body, though some slight remnants of the shell are present near its shoulders and legs. It uses a piece of its old shell as a makeshift weapon.

New Move: Razor Shell

Competitive Description: A relatively fast mixed sweeper with plenty of power and an okay speed tier, with Mold Breaker to let it hit almost anything with its mighty base 158 Attack. While it does lose out on secondary STAB, it's not missing out on much, as it doesn't have that much good Rock STAB, and the secondary type was somewhat detrimental and gave it a 4x weakness, and two other weaknesses.

Other Description/Justification: The ability is a Mold Breaker clone, because a mold is basically a shell used in casting for the liquid to be poured into. Razor Shell was chosen as the new move, due to it using a piece of its old shell as an improvised weapon. It was also pretty fitting for a Pokemon with Shell Smash to lose its shell upon Mega Evolution.

So, uh, question and forgive me if this has been asked before somewhere else: how are we going to do Pokemon with form changes such as Rotom and the Genies' Therian Formes? Are only the base forms going to get megas or will all the separate forms get their own megas?

Mega Torkoal
Type
: Fire --> Fire/Water
Ability: Shell Armour/White Smoke --> Serene Grace
Base Stats:-
HP: 70 --> 70
ATK: 85 --> 75 (-10, total remaining: 110)
DEF: 140 --> 140
SPA: 85 --> 125 (+40, t.r.: 70)
SPD: 70 --> 140 (+70, t.r.: 0)
SPE: 20 --> 20

Movepool Additions: Scald, Fiery Dance

Description and Explanation: Mega Torkoal's cloud of steam settles around it, forming a cloak of boiling water that protects it from harm and calms it (similar to Mega Altaria's floofsplosion). Since Torkoal is based on the tetsubin, a Japanese kettle commonly patterned to look like a tortoise shell, I thought it appropriate to give it a Water secondary typing. I selected Serene Grace for the ability due to the expression of Zen calm on Torkoal's face, which I imagine would be made more prominent by the Mega design, and this ties into its tanky, defensive nature. It already knows Lava Plume, so this is an excuse to run Fire Blast and/or Fiery Dance as STAB moves on a defensive set with Scald there to take up the slack, and a 60% Burn chance is never to be sneezed at. Fiery Dance is also now guaranteed to raise your Special Attack by 1 stage, which also ain't bad.

Counters: A near-total lack of reliable recovery means Mega Torkoal's utility as a wall is severely limited, and it doesn't much care for Status absorbers either. Chip damage from common coverage moves like Thunderbolt or EQ is probably the best means of taking it down, with Landorus-T being the obvious candidate.

Mega Torterra
Type
: Grass/Ground --> Grass/Rock
Ability: Overgrow/Shell Armour --> Rock Head

Base Stats:-
HP: 95 --> 95
ATK: 109 --> 140 (+31, total remaining: 69)
DEF: 105 --> 155 (+50, t.r.: 19)
SPA: 75 --> 60 (-15, t.r.: 34)
SPD: 85 --> 65 (-20, t.r.: 54)
SPE: 56 --> 110 (+54, t.r.: 0)
(N.B.: Weight also increases hugely.)

Movepool Addition: Head Smash

Description and Explanation: The pebbles and lawn on Torterra's back rise up, becoming a craggy, forbidding landscape reminiscent of limestone karsts, or (perhaps unsurprisingly) the art style of Shadow of the Colossus. More trees grow from it, their leaves swaying in the breeze, but it is the Pokémon's legs which merit the most attention. The once-lumbering beast now sports far more powerful-looking legs, almost equine in appearance, and the colossus seems like a much faster proposition than before. Lastly, the armoured plates on its head have grown stronger, resembling a combination of stone Viking helmet and crown of laurels. Most suitable for charging into battle, n'est-ce pas?

Now, though, we must talk business. I wanted Mega Torterra to feel enormous, to really dominate the battlefield, and while its movements might still be slightly ponderous, it can charge far faster than before simply due to the length and positioning of its great tree-trunk legs; this is why both the Speed and Defence have gone up by such a huge amount. Its typing changed to what I'd consider a better one overall; no more weaknesses to Fire and Flying, and no more horrible quadruple Ice weakness. Plus, Rock is a pretty amazing attacking STAB. This is why I gave it the best physical Rock-type move in the game, along with an ability that negates recoil: I wanted to make this Pokémon feel like the wrath of the land itself, and I wanted to give those Talonflame users something to really think about. Namely "where did my Talonflame go oh there it is it is the small red stain on the car park".

Counters: The bigger they are, the harder they fall, and Mega Torterra is no exception. Low Kick in particular is the bane of its existence, but another thing it really doesn't like is Ice Beam. Special Attackers in general can give it a hard time, especially before it can get a boost off with something like Rock Polish. It's a big beast, but it's by no means unkillable. Lucario in particular springs to mind as something that can kill it dead; resisting both its STABs and with access to Aura Sphere and Vacuum Wave, it can totally destroy it. Earthquake might prove to be a bit of a problem, though. =]

Mega Carracosta
Type
: Water/Rock --> Water/Dragon
Ability: Solid Rock/Sturdy/Swift Swim --> Multiscale

Base Stats:-
HP: 74 --> 74
ATK: 108 --> 138 (+30, total remaining: 70)
DEF: 133 --> 145 (+12, t.r.: 58)
SPA: 83 --> 123 (+40, t.r.: 18)
SPD: 65 --> 95 (+30, t.r.: -12)
SPE: 32 --> 20 (-12, t.r.: 0)

Movepool Addition: Dual Chop

Description and Explanation: Rather than go purely for the "Oh, now the old turtle is young again" thing a la Mega Aerodactyl and its ironic stalagmite facial hair, I elected to base the design around the Lóngguī, or Chinese dragon turtle. As such, its shell becomes scalier and more armoured, along with a more overtly draconic head and more pronounced claws on its forelimbs. Dragon is still a pretty excellent type, and Water/Dragon even more so, so it's an indirect buff; the same can be said of the ability Multiscale, which pretty much ensures you can get your Shell Smash off. Special Attack is boosted to further boost the mixed set it already runs, though the lowered Speed means that even after a boost there's a lot of things that'll outspeed it, and I've thrown in Dual Chop so that it gets a Dragon STAB move and the ability to hit through subs. It needs hazard removal support for it to be effective as a sweeper, but if it does boost? It hits like a truck. A very, very slow truck. =]

Counters: Mega Carracosta doesn't really like taking Special attacks, especially after boosting with Shell Smash; even neutral Special hits are a problem. Any special attacker worth its salt can do seriously nasty things to it. Additionally, Spikes and Stealth Rock break Multiscale, so be sure to set them up and keep them up. It also really, really doesn't like status, so bear that in mind.

Donphan - Mega
Ability: Sturdy/Sand Veil -> Filter
Typing:
->
/

HP: 90 -> 90 (+0)
Attack: 120 -> 165 (+45)
Defence: 120 -> 145 (+25)
Special Attack: 60 -> 40 (-20)
Special Defence: 60 -> 120 (+60)
Speed: 50 -> 40 (-10)
Total 500 -> 600 (+100)

New Moves: Slack Off, Iron Head, U-Turn

Design: I can see this mega getting a more armour like trunk that is raised up slightly into the sky. Some claws on its feet and more metalic looking tusks. (That's about all I can think of)

Conclusion: With good defences, 8 resitances, 2 immunities and an attack stat that's only 10 lower than Kyurem-Black, this Mega would be a force to be reckoned with. It's STAB Iron Head will do a lot of damage to anything that doesn't resist it, and it can also hit fairies extremely well. It is a great way to remove hazards, and hardly takes damage from them in the first place.

Mamoswine - Mega
Ability: Oblivious/Snow Cloak/Thick Fat -> Ice Boost (Lightning rod, but raises Attack and Speed. draws ice type moves)
Typing:
/
->
/

HP: 110 -> 110 (+0)
Attack: 130 -> 170 (+40)
Defence: 80 -> 90 (+10)
Special Attack: 70 -> 59 (-11)
Special Defence: 60 -> 100 (+40)
Speed: 80 -> 101 (+21)
Total 530 -> 630 (+100)

New Moves: Waterfall, Slack Off, Horn Leech

Design: Darker fur, which is very thick compared to before. Icy shards along its back. Icy stalactites (or stalagmites depending on what you say) instead of tusks. Dark Blue eyes.

Conclusion: Mamoswine - Mega is still weak to burns, but if the opponent can't burn you, they are going to have a really bad time. With a staggering 170 attack and a pretty average 101 speed, Mamoswine can sweep entire teams. It does fall short on the special attack and defence however. but its HP stat can make up for that. Waterfall and Horn Leech also provide some good coverage, aswell as the ice shard hitting really hard for a priority move.
We've moved on from that slate, the current slate is Torkoal, Torterra, and Carracosta.
