[OVERVIEW]
Dugtrio's ability Arena Trap lets it become one of the best revenge killers in the entire tier. Dugtrio has a great Speed tier, outpacing common sights like Sneasel and Virizion; the only Pokemon able to naturally outspeed Dugtrio are Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl. Dugtrio also has a great offensive typing, giving it STAB Earthquake, and it has access to other offensive coverage moves like Stone Edge and Sucker Punch, as well as Aerial Ace, which even lets it trap and KO Virizion, one of the tier's biggest threats. Furthermore, because Dugtrio is able to reliably eliminate certain Pokemon, it can support many setup sweepers like Fletchinder and can even use Memento to create opportunities for setup sweepers and generate momentum. Unfortunately, Dugtrio's other stats hold it down, preventing it from even taking light attacks. Dugtrio also fails to OHKO Pokemon like Rhyperior and Diancie with super effective attacks without quite a lot of chip damage. In addition, Dugtrio is very susceptible to priority, specifically Ice Shard, which is super effective, and is forced to use Substitute to dodge Sucker Punch.

Moves
========
Earthquake is most effective at damaging grounded Poison-, Steel-, Fire-, Rock-, and Electric-types like Garbodor, Registeel, Houndoom, Diancie, Magneton, and Manectric. Aerial Ace lets Dugtrio handle the tier's most threatening setup sweeper, Virizion. Substitute is used so that Dugtrio can dodge Sucker Punch from Pokemon like Expert Belt Emboar, Houndoom, and Absol and prevents revenge killers from coming in and getting the KO. In the final slot, Sucker Punch can be used to deal more damage to Psychic-types like Meloetta and Sigilyph but is mainly used to hit slower priority users and Choice Scarf users like Medicham and Delphox. Alternatively, Memento can create momentum for your team and give setup sweepers a free turn to boost their stats. Another option is Toxic, which can cripple defensive Pokemon coming in after Dugtrio gets a KO, such as Alomomola and Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary.
Set Details
========
Maximum Attack investment with Life Orb gives Dugtrio as much power as it can get. Maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature let Dugtrio outspeed Sneasel and Virizion. Arena Trap stops grounded Pokemon, with the exception of Ghost-types, from being able to switch without using U-turn, Volt Switch, or Baton Pass.
Usage Tips
========
Dugtrio does not have the bulk to switch into attacks, so try to bring it in through a slow Volt Switch, U-turn, or Baton Pass. It is also possible but riskier to double switch to get Dugtrio in if you don't have any VoltTurn users. Dugtrio should only stay in on targets that will be KOed by its attacks in order to avoid being the one that is KOed. Dugtrio's main goal is to eliminate targets that threaten your sweepers and wallbreakers, so try to keep them healthy until Dugtrio has finished KOing their checks and counters. If one of your Pokemon gets KOed, try to use Dugtrio to finish off the job. Memento should be used when your team lacks an appropriate switch-in to the threat Dugtrio is against in order to give your team some breathing space to work around it. It can also be used to give a sweeper more room to set up once its checks and counters are weakened or removed. Make sure to only use Memento when Dugtrio has trapped all the targets it has needed to. Try to keep Dugtrio's last move hidden until it is absolutely needed. This can make your opponent guess wrong and accidentally let their guard down. For example, an Emboar comes in thinking it can revenge kill Dugtrio with Sucker Punch, but Dugtrio stops it with Substitute.
Team Options
========
Spikes support makes it a lot easier to secure KOs, so partners like Garbodor, Accelgor, and Mega Glalie can support Dugtrio so that it can get some crucial 2HKOs on Pokemon like Rhyperior. Wallbreakers such as Exploud, Meloetta, Hoopa, and Venusaur weaken the opponent's team to let Dugtrio snag some extra KOs. All of them appreciate Dugtrio trapping one of their best checks, Registeel. Fighting-types without coverage to hit Poison-types like Hitmonlee and Gurdurr appreciate Dugtrio's ability to remove Pokemon like Garbodor and Qwilfish. They can also check Ice Shard and Sucker Punch users, which annoy Dugtrio. Flying-type sweepers like Vivillon, Braviary, and Fletchinder love Dugtrio's ability to trap and KO their counters such as Diancie and Registeel. Virizion is aided by Dugtrio's trapping ability as well: Dugtrio traps Fire-types like Delphox and Houndoom, both of which non-Stone Edge Virizion struggles against, and Poison-types that Virizion struggles to KO if it is running Calm Mind or Stone Edge coverage.

Other Options
=============
Pursuit can trap Hoopa, which can normally escape Dugtrio's Arena Trap because it is part Ghost-type. Stone Edge can hit Fletchinder, Braviary, and Sigilyph after Dugtrio KOes a Pokemon to prevent them from setting up, but it can't trap them, making it hard to secure a KO. Hone Claws can let it set up and potentially sweep, but even if it gets to choose what to set up on, Dugtrio still has a hard time finding Pokemon that can't KO it. Focus Sash can let Dugtrio check different threats at full HP like certain Choice Scarf Pokemon such as Emboar. Choice Band can be used to avoid Life Orb recoil but more importantly 2HKO Rhyperior, but it leaves Dugtrio vulnerable to Pokemon coming in because it cannot switch its moves, which can be easily taken advantage of.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Bulky Pokemon With Recovery**: Dugtrio's attacks are unable to 2HKO the bulky walls in the tier like Slowking and Jellicent. These walls can easily recover back their HP and beat Dugtrio with their offensive moves or stall Dugtrio out with Toxic or Will-O-Wisp. They must beware of Dugtrio carrying Toxic, though, as it can severely cripple them in the long run.
**Faster Pokemon and Priority**: Pokemon that outspeed Dugtrio like Jolteon, Accelgor, and Aerodactyl can all pressure it with a strong or super effective move. Choice Scarf Pokemon like Braviary and Emboar can outspeed Dugtrio and KO it with a STAB move because of its pitiful bulk. Priority in Sucker Punch and Mach Punch can also deal a large amount of damage, limiting how many more turns Dugtrio has until Life Orb recoil eventually KOes it. Ice Shard from Abomasnow, Sneasel, and Mega Glalie can straight out OHKO Dugtrio. Sucker Punch users must be wary of Substitute and Memento, though, as the former can let Dugtrio trap and KO it, and the latter sets up an opportunity for one of Dugtrio's teammates to potentially set up.
**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: While Pokemon like Blastoise, Gurdurr, and Granbull are much more susceptible to getting worn down, Dugtrio still struggles to pick up KOs without a lot of prior chip damage.
**Untrappable Pokemon**: Ghost- and Flying-types and even Pokemon with Levitate are immune to Arena Trap, letting them switch out into a Pokemon that can handle Dugtrio.
