Meloetta (Psychic) [QC 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]

Psychic
========

* An almost unique Psychic / Normal typing lets Meloetta serve as a answer to Ghost-type teams while not giving any new weaknesses.
* Excellent Special Attack and a great movepool allow Meloetta to heavily damage almost any Pokemon.
* Decent HP alongside a solid Special Defense stat let Meloetta function as a general special tank and allow it to take on most special attackers.
* Decent Speed let it outpace most bulky Pokemon and force them out, but lets most offensive Pokemon outpace it
* Low Defense stat leaves it prey to faster physical attackers and limits its opportunities to switch in.
* Lack of recovery or resistance to entry hazard gives it difficulty coming in multiple times per match.

Moves
========

* Shadow Ball lets Meloetta hit Ghost-Type threats such as Gengar, Doublade, and Chandelure hard and allows Meloetta to reliably take on Ghost-type teams.
* Psyshock hits specially defensive pokemon such as Chansey, Lanturn, and Mantine while providing Meloetta a spammable STAB move.
* Psychic is another, stronger option that hits physically bulky Pokemon such Landorus-T and Porygon2 harder
* Focus Blast hits the Dark- and Steel-type Pokemon that threaten Psychic teams and lets Meloetta dissuade Pursuit trappers from switching in.
* Dazzling Gleam hits Mega Sableye hard, letting Meloetta take it on, and gives Meloetta a reliable method of dealing with Dark- and Dragon-type Pokemon.
* Trick allows Meloetta to cripple walls it cannot otherwise defeat such as Alolan Muk.
* Hyper Voice is another option to hit most of the metagame for neutral damage, but doesn't help coverage and doesn't aid Meloetta versus Ghost-type Pokemon.

Set Details
========

* 252 Special Attack EVs alongside a Modest nature maximize Meloetta's power
* Choice Specs further increase Meloetta's damage output, and comes at little cost as Meloetta sticks to one move in most matchups.
* The remaining EVs are placed in Speed to allow Meloetta to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible
* Serene Grace doubles the chance of secondary effects, increasing the chance of Psychic, Shadow Ball, and Focus Blast lowering Special Defense.

Usage Tips
========

* Bring Meloetta in on pivots or weak special attacks such as Scald freely to fire off attacks.
* Meloetta can be switched into more powerful special attacks, but its bulk only goes so far and it has no recovery, so don't weaken it for not reason.
* Should you not need it to check offensive ghosts such as Mega Gengar, use Meloetta to break holes in the opposing team.
* Even at low HP, it's often beneficial to keep Meloetta alive to discourage choice users from locking themselves into Shadow Ball.
* While Meloetta is the best Ghost-type answer Psychic has, be wary of Physical Ghost-types such as Alolan Marowak that can hit Meloetta hard on its weaker defense.

Team Options
========

* Victini is probably the best teammate for Meloetta, as it can bring Meloetta in on bulky walls with U-turn, and alongside Meloetta covers two of Psychic's weaknesses is Bug and Ghost.
* Gardevoir is another handy partner to take on Dark-type Pokemon for Meloetta; in particular, it acts as an excellent check to Mega Sableye.
* Physically bulky Pokemon such as Mew and Slowbro can cover for Meloetta's weaker defense stat.
* Fast attackers such as Mega Alakazam and Latios are good to patch up Meloetta's low speed stat.

* A Calm Mind set may seem tempting to take advantage of Meloetta's excellent special stats, but is suboptimal due to its low speed and exploitable defense stat.

Checks and Counters
===================

Psychic
--------
**Super Effective Attackers**: Super Effective Attackers can heavily injure Meloetta with Bug- and Dark-type moves, particularly since Psychic has no real switch-ins to those types. Knock off in particular is annoying as it cripples Meloetta for the match and is omnipresent in the monotype metagame. While Meloetta can hit Dark-type Pokemon with Focus Blast, it is innaccurate and doesn't solve the problem.

**Physical Attackers**:

**Specially Defensive Walls**:

**Bulky Steel-type Pokemon**:
