SM OU RMT Rain Offense

Rain has received an incredible new asset to its arsenal this Gen in the form of a great Rain Setter, Pelipper. However it's not a prime archetype in OU due to major top tier threats being a major hassle to it (e.g. Tapu Fini, Tapu Koko, Toxapex etc.). Rain can still however hold it's own with incredible offensive pressure and speed control.

Pelipper @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Roost
  • Pelipper outshines Politoed in every conceivable way, Politoed might be preferred if one likes the Support Moves it offers, those being Encore and Perish Song. The latter isn't really helpful in most situations and Encore isn't enough to justify using Politoed over Pelipper. Additionally, although Pelipper simply can not take Electric Type attacks it isn't weak to Grass Type moves.
  • Slow U-Turn adds Momentum to the team which is of great value to a Rain team letting you get some damage while at the same time getting your Rain Sweepers in.
  • Scald and Hurricane are the Stab moves of choice, Scald having a nice 30% chance to burn and increased power thanks to Rain while Hurricane has 100% accuracy under Rain, with a small confusion chance to boot.
  • Roost works as reliable recovery.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
  • To start off our defensive backbone, Ferrothorn has great synergy with Pelipper resisting Electric Type and Rock Type attacks aimed at it while Pelipper softens up Fire moves for it with Drizzle and resists Fighting moves.
  • Spikes is incredibly useful since they can be used over time to stack up in order to weaken the opposing team for the team's sweepers to clean up.
  • Leech Seed offers extra recovery from Ferrothorn while at the same time being handy against Pokemon such as Heatran.
  • Power Whip is our Stab of choice, hitting things like Manaphy, Ash Greninja and Tapu Fini.
  • Gyro Ball is our second Stab of choice hitting things like Tapu Lele, Gengar and Latios.
  • A Relaxed Nature increases Gyro Ball's base power while the given EV Spread allows Ferrothorn to survive a +3 Ice Beam from Manaphy.
maro.png

Marowak-Alola @ Thick Club
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shadow Bone
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
  • Marowak-A hits incredibly hard thanks to Thick Club and can switch in on Tapu Koko and most Electric Type moves in general which are a big threat for Rain.
  • Shadow Bone is a powerful Stab move while Flare Blitz nets an OHKO on opposing Ferrothorn even under Rain, since we're using Lightning Rod however this will greatly hinder Marowak-A's longevity.
  • Swords Dance pushes Marowak-A's Attack Stat through the roof letting it stampede through Stall matchups.
  • Stealth Rock works well alongside Spikes and is a welcome asset to any team.
king.png

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Sp. Def
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
  • Max Speed, max Special Attack Kingdra with a Modest Nature combined with Choice Specs and Rain lets Kingdra outspeed up to scarfed base 110 Pokemon while at the same time hitting like a truck.
  • Hydro Pump under Rain is a powerful Stab move while Surf trades away some of that power for guaranteed hits.
  • Draco Meteor is a powerful secondary Stab that hits most common Water resist switch ins bar Tapu Fini.
  • Ice Beam lets Kingdra hit Grass Types such as Tangrowth, Amoongus, Tapu Bulu and Dragon or Ground types such as Garchomp, Salamence or Landorus-T.
kabu.png

Kabutops @ Rockium Z
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Rapid Spin
  • Waterfall boosted by Rain hits most targets incredibly hard especially combined with Swords Dance.
  • Rockium Z allows Kabutops to use a one time use Continental Crash to break past things such as Tapu Fini, Amoongus, Mega Venusaur and Rotom-W.
  • Rapid Spin can come clutch in a lot of situations, maybe letting Pelipper reset the Rain without having to worry about SR damaging it or flat out removing it from play and not letting it reset weather, additionally Kingdra enjoys not having to take extra damage.
lelel.png

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
  • Choice Scarf Tapu Lele protects Kabutops and Kingdra from priority attacks.
  • It can clean up a badly damaged opposing team in case you couldn't set up a Rain sweep.
  • It can break past defensive threats such as Tapu Fini with it's powerful Psychic under Psychic Terrain or it can flat out remove things such as Amoongus and Mega Venusaur.
  • It outspeeds unboosted Tapu Koko dealing great damage to it for another teammate to clean it up in case it can't get the job done.
  • All in all it applies great pressure, helping your other sweepers by putting dents in the other team or by sweeping on its own.
And that's the team, please do post your suggestions and thank you for your time. Damage Calculations and Import will be listed below.

It is a good rain team friend, the only bad thing is that you will face a sand team that has access to tanks that withstand special blows such as chansey and without the water jet of kabutops in case that pelipper will weaken all your equipment could be easily weakened By an excadrill gives 2hko to ferrothorn but it is an observation no more that I can give to your good team but of the more it is very useful and very strong for SM OU

It's more of the fact that Fini is kinda annoying to deal with, especially the Calm Variants which can take Kingdra's hits as well as Kabutops. Your only answer is Lele in this case, which forces you to play a certain way to beat it. Considering there are other Pokemons in the opponent's team, it might serve to be difficult.

This isn't exactly viable criticism. Sand doesn't see a lot of play in Gen 7 at least, so it's hard to make this assessment, especially stating that Sand + Chansey isn't exactly common either. If a Sand Team requires Chansey or something, then it's just a bad sand team. Weather control is easy with this team imo, with Pelipper + Wak + Ferro, which helps deal with the annoying mons for rain. If you really are scared for shit like Chansey, just run specs Lele w/ Psyshock as a counter-measure after Kabutops.

Looks solid otherwise imo.
