I started with Fullmetal Alchemist, which is just a damn good show. Psycho Pass and Death Note are good Crime/Thrillers. Not to mention they all have English Dubs. Cowboy Behop is the one everyone recommends but i haven't gotten to it yet. IMO start with one of the those.

FMA:Brotherhood is good, but I haven't finished watching it yet
Dragon Ball Z is really mediocre and the only reason I like it is because I grew up with it
Cowboy Bebop is terrific, but I haven't finished it. I strongly recommend it.
