Two that come to my mind are Stone Edge and Psycho Cut. Psycho cut has twice the crit chance of zen headbutt in addition to having superior accuracy, but it's base power of 10 fewer makes a huge difference in use. Stone Edge, on the other hand, is another move where I suspect the high crit...

If Fire Blast is objectively better by this calculation, why is flamethrower still a relatively common move on a lot of sets? Are players irrational in their risk-aversion, or is there a point to wanting to de-hax the game? For that matter, how does high critical hit chance factor into this...

So generally, it's a good idea to only run one nuke move? What about special Hydreigon with both Fire Blast and Draco Meteor? (not trying to be obnoxious here. I'm just curious to know if there is an overarching pattern to how moves are selected in most cases).

I've seen this dichotomy a number of times on the ladder, and I've become curious why some players and sets are more willing to place their faith in hax than others. The higher up one goes, the rarer things like Ash-Greninja with Surf become but the more frequently I see Charizard-Y carrying...

    Jellicent [QC: 0/3] Written

QC checks: GP checks: Overview In a metagame mostly absent of the knock off sets that have cast this former heavy hitter into RU, the Pringle Squid proves to be an unexpectedly functional special wall. Capable of answering many prevalent physical threats in Ubers thanks to its unusual...

    Noble Items

Shed Shell This item not only enables switching regardless of circumstances, but also prevents the holder's stats from being lowered by opponents. Fluff: the shed shell provides a disposable cover for the wielder, absorbing trapping moves and attempts to hinder the carrier's mind and body. Pure...

    CAP 20 - Part 1 - Concept Submissions

Name: The Ledge Runner General Description: A pokemon that is capable of sweeping while frequently on the brink of death, often through the use of recoil moves. It would have access to recovery, but would constantly be at risk of being KOed by a foe or by it's own move. The concept is to reward...

    Pokémon Serperior

Here's the set I use: it catches most off guard: Serperior @ Leftovers Ability: Contrary EVs: 4 Def / 252 HP / 252 Speed - Leaf Storm - Leech Seed - Hidden Power [Fire] - Substitute Special attack EVs don't seem to matter much to this poke, as it can quickly boost to an insane degree without...

Collaborative Project: We Only Write the Tier Lists

Competitive pokemon has a rather storied history, with tons of crazy additions and ups and downs that we as players have been discussing and experiencing for years. So I think it's time that we put it all together and write a song about it. The basic idea is that it would be "We Didn't Start...

Ask A Simple Question, Get A Simple Answer - Pokemon Showdown! Edition

Hello everyone. I just went on showdown earlier today and I noticed a disparity between the tier list displayed there and the one displayed on the website. Most notably, Vaporeon and Smeargle are listed as being in different tiers on each (i.e. they are OU on the site and UU in showdown). Which...

    Generation 6 Analysis Format

What I mean is that the Overview of each pokemon has been deleted. This overview, in addition to being periodically funny, posed interesting insight into the pokemon's general perks and flaws, as well as describing why it was in the tier it was. For example, this was the one for azelf (thank...

    Generation 6 Analysis Format

Any chance you could add the analyses from previous generations back into the new pokedex? They still offer great insight into the pokemon and what makes it useful, as well as being a handy reference tool for previous-gen players.

The answer to 5 and 6 is yes. You can alter the type of any move using only the movedex file. I've done it numerous times in the past.
