Out speeding Rotom-W is a fair benchmark on an offensive set so you don't have to worry about getting burned. You'll also outspeed base 80s and Heatran at a bare minimum should outspeed if you carry Superpower.

    Pokémon Araquanid

Yes I know that's Araquanid's role, but I was explaining the purpose of the Sleep Talk set with Scald in the OP. If you are using Rest Talk it makes sense to invest in defenses and perform as a tank. On a CB set yeah, Sleep Talk, Liquidation, Waterfall and Leech Life makes more sense.

    Pokémon Araquanid

Perhaps, but the point is that Waterfall is useless outside of being selected during Sleep Talk. With Scald however, it effectively makes Araquanid far bulkier when you consider the Atk drop the opponent can suffer. This means you can Rest safer against more opponents. It also aids in battles of...

    Pokémon Mimikyu

Something I neglected to comment on before, but if Shadow Claw is your only attack move and Curse is HP dependent why not Spooky Plate? Or do you like LO recoil to use for momentum purposes if you kill yourself?

SM OU The Trick Room Doom Battalion (1650+, top 100 ladder)

On Buzzwhole, I highly recommend you consider Bug Gem Fell Stinger. When played later when things are weakened with some hazards, you can nail something with coverage or bluff a band with Hammer Arm, and then finish with a souped up Fell Stinger which, on top of Beast Boost, will leave you with...

    Pokémon Araquanid

Considering most bulky waters rely on Scald and you can't be burned plus have good SpD as is, I still don't see much merit over Water Bubble.

    Pokémon Salazzle

    Not necessarily. +1 0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Salazzle: 55-65 (16.1 - 19.1%) -- possible 8HKO after Black Sludge recovery 76 SpA Mega Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Salazzle: 93-109 (27.3 - 32%) -- 49.7% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery 76 SpA Mega Venusaur...

    Pokémon Araquanid

Infestation+Burn+Liquidation is more than sufficient enough to kill Toxapex, that's my point. Infestation doesn't last long enough for Toxic to wrack up enough damage, especially if it requires using Soak first. It's a horribly inefficient set overall.

    Pokémon Salazzle

True, that was a big part of it. But Salazzle can still function similarly because you do have quite a fair amount of resistances to Fire, Fighting, Ice, Steel, Poison and 4x resists to Fairy, Bug and Grass. It shouldn't be hard to tell by looking at an opponent's team which mon are safe to come...

    Pokémon Alola Golem

I highly advise you run max speed with Adamant. As shown in the OP, there are an absurd amount of bulky Water types and walls that you can outspeed and avoid the Water move altogether, as well as a potential Scald burn. AV should still work fine without the HP investment considering your natural...

    Pokémon Salazzle

That's the purpose of Sub+Disable. Even if it goes down once, Disable prevents the move from being used the next time, and very few opponents slower than you will have two equally threatening moves. This is exactly how SubDisable Gengar performed and it has similarly poor bulk, but Salazzle has...

    Pokémon Araquanid

Why Soak/Toxic? Why not just Sub/Scald? If you want to lure and trap Toxapex, cool, but Sub protects you from Toxic and weak Scalds, and a million other things. Besides, between Scald burns, Infestation and Liquidation Def drops, that should be enough to wear it down. Infestation, Soak, then...

    Pokémon Lurantis

Why bother with Z Sunny Day and just use a Grassium Z Solar Blade? It's a one turn much stronger version of Solar Blade that people won't account for because Sun is a dead giveaway. You aren't getting off many Solar Blades in a match anyway, just make the one you have count for something

    Pokémon Crabominable

I think you'd be better off with Bulk Up and Sub over both defense boosting moves. Status is a big threat, you'll need Sub for something to just outright not kill you. This let's you run a stronger Fighting STAB instead. Your set just takes too much set up unfortunately. You're probably better...

    Metagame Metagame Discussion Thread

And the speed. 151 is absurdly fast, most people don't have a choice scarf user that goes that fast. In a meta where 110 is considered fast, and 120 is considered great, 151 just blows it it out of the water. Unlike Deoxys however, Phero gets dual STAB and Beast Boost. Unlike Deoxys however...

Still need answers to these questions. - Do Galvanized moves get Electric Terrain boosts? - Does Charge boost the power of a Galvanized move next turn? - Does Galvanized Explosion get STAB? Thanks

    Pokémon Tapu Bulu

Might purely bulky stall sets opt for Nature's Madness? Always doing 50% damage gives anything a tough time switching in, and is prediction safe. Tapu Bulu@Leftovers Grassy Surge Impish: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD - Nature's Madness - Taunt/Protect/Substitute - Leech Seed - Toxic/Horn Leech

    Pokémon Incineroar

Unfortunately AF, even if you were proposing that special set for lower tiers, it's still utterly outclassed by just regular Houndoom, who has a much better 110 SpA compared to 80, and 95 Spe compared to 60, and can run the exact same set. I think wanting to run Fire Blast/Overheat alone on an...

    Pokémon Porygon-Z

Mega Sceptile would be a pretty good doubles Discharge partner for obvious reasons, or a Thundurus-T with a Yache Berry. Thundy can easily boost while getting healed from Discharge and can carry Knock Off for Eviolite or Superpower/Focus Blast. Being immune to EQ helps a lot too so that'd be a...

    Pokémon Mimikyu

Your hypothesis is sound AF. If you check the set lists posted, I have WoW on a set, but on one that emphasizes bulk. I have no problem with the move, but on the specific set you posted, if we run calcs to test your claim if it helps against those checks you listed, it turned out not to be the...
