Submit your stat spreads for CAP in this topic. Please remember that you should only post a submission if it is significantly different than one already posted -- I don't want to see 22 spreads that look exactly the same. remember, significant differences.

Name: Stop the Secondary
Description: A Pokémon that through means of ability, moves, and typing, can stop a variety of the non damaging affect of moves and moves of non damaging origin.

Justification: While the immediate threat of damaging moves is large and present, the affect of moves such as status, Trick, Leech Seed, Taunt, Stealth Rock, Spikes have arguably had a greater affect to the metagame than anything has ever had, something that this would greatly look in to.

Questions to be Answered:
~ How easily would a Pokémon with such large of a niche be able to fit into a competitive team?
~ How large of an impact would the reducation of non damaging affects and moves have on the metagame?
- What, if any, would happen to the types of teams being used?
- How would this affect the usage of these types of moves?
~ How much of an affect does typing have on the ability for ANY Pokémon to perform this duty?
Typing: Dark/Ground
Style Bias: Somewhat offensive (0-20)
Build Bias: Physical (20 to infinity)
Stat Rating: Excellent (420-579)

The Rules:
 • Post a submission only if it is significantly different than others already posted. I don't want to see a fuckton of stat spreads that look freakishly similar. Remember that I choose the spreads to make it to the poll.

 • Threadhogging -- don't do it. What I said in the Secondary Typing Poll applies here even more. Get your point across, defend it, and move on. I shouldn't see the same people posting the same shit over and over again.

 • Keep the convo fresh. Don't discuss the same thing over and over again. If you have something new to post, post it. If not, think a little bit harder on your post, and make sure you are not threadhogging.
Little sidenote: Don't try to go overkill on this stat spread. We have an ability to consider here as well. I'm looking for spreads that are not far off from Very Good. I chose excellent to give you guys the extra elbow room for your spreads. Don't abuse it to get to 579.

A tip from Plus: Calcs are a great way for your spread to get attention. Just listing out numbers with a paragraph or two of information isn't very appealing. The real numbers that people want are in damage calcs. What does it take from x pokemon's move? How much does it do to x pokemon with y move? They should also be significant calcs as well!

Here's the calc for finding bsr and whatnot. Input your spread here to check if it is legal.

Have fun, knock yourselves out.

Explanation:

General:
With 5 weaknesses and a concept that really only necessitates a switch-in and 1-2 turns in battle at a time (it should be getting forced out pretty quickly with all those weaks), this CaP needs to be able to balance a hit-and-run (or stop-the-secondary-and-run) kind of strategy while still being able to score free turns by being offensively threatening. Secondly (and secondly is key here), it also needs to be able to take some key neutral hits so that it can do its job switching in on the huge variety of secondary users and effectively shut them down in some way, since there is no way it will be able to deal with all of them offensively. This is the approach I took to creating this spread and is why it is going to be slightly more geared toward a rapid pace style of play than others. It is my belief that CaP9 is going to be the type of pokemon that switches in unharmed most of the time (on a predicted secondary attack), forces out the opponent, does its thing as the opponent switches in a counter (one of many, in this case), and then leaves until it is needed again (in most cases. At this point, one can only speculate its capacity to stay in and sweep or perform other necessary team functions, since the abilities and move pool have yet to be decided. Fortunately, this spread can do very well fulfilling multiple roles).

Offenses: 118/60/108
Here I wanted to create a strong physical presence without going overboard, which would essentially mandate full-on offensive sets in every case. With this spread, CaP can post some impressive damage numbers (depending on investment) and can become a real force when boosted. It is balanced by a low SpA stat, meaning the opponent will almost always know where CaP is coming from on the offensive spectrum, except in rare cases, meaning CaP will have more reliable walls in Skarmory, Hippowdon, Forretress, etc., which justifies the higher speed, as well (also, this is just my opinion, but having a "Stop-the-Secondary" CaP that is walled by secondary users is a great strategy, as it basically asks the opponent who wants to wall CaP to use up a team slot on something that won't be accomplishing much of its own goals at all. This will invariably lead to offensive CaP counters, meaning fewer secondary attacks. It also encourages us as a community to be more creative when it comes to stopping secondary attacks, beyond just attacking their users).

Regarding Special Attack, if you really are concerned about taking out Skarmory and Forretress, a Life Orb Fire Blast (slight poll jumping, sorry) will 2HKO the Standard Skarmory and OHKO Forretress with no investment and a neutral nature (96 EVs w/o LO). I really don't see much other need for SpA.

118 Attack is a great level for this pokemon, giving offensive sets (252 EVs) 335 Atk w/ a neutral nature and 368 w/ a +nature. Calcs, activate!

As you can see, neutral hits aren't terribly powerful, SE hits teeter right on the edge of useful O-2HKOs, and a Choice Band can really push a lot of close-OHKOs into guaranteed OHKOs and wreak general devastation, which makes EV selection and nature all the more crucial.

So yeah, an offensive CaP will be low-end 2-3HKO'd on average by SE attacks or high-BP STAB neutral attacks from most secondary users who don't invest much in their respective attacking stats. It will also be high-end 2-3HKO'd on average by OU's offensive pokemon, putting it in a great spot to take on a large variety of pokemon consistently while maintaining an offensive strategy.

The Speed stat here was inspired by Infernape, who has a huge stake in becoming one of CaP9’s biggest threats. I’d like to see the mind games that ensue by adding another pokemon that could be one of its biggest threats to its yet unchallenged speed tier. The two have excellent dueling STABs (Fighting beats Dark, Ground beats Fire), and I think a rivalry of sorts could be fun. I'd also like to extend to CaP the advantages of being in a very exclusive speed tier, which allows it to be above 100 base while simultaneously giving it plenty of options in choosing speed numbers without having to go max + nature for every set, freeing up extra EVs for bulk in the process. This number also makes Choice Band all the more viable for offensive sets as well as for punishing Trick users. Beyond that, 108 is not outrageously high; there are quite a number of pokemon that can threaten CaP in higher tiers, such as Latias, Starmie, Jolteon, Weavile, Azelf, Gengar, and most common Scarfers (Heracross, Porygon-z, etc.), as well as a good number of checks that can't simply be muscled off of the battlefield (e.g. Swampert). I also like this speed tier because it doesn't require +nature to outrun all Lucario (220 EVs), who would otherwise run all over CaP, or neutral nature base 100s (192 EVs). Here CaP can confidently invest elsewhere.

Defenses: 103/80/91
I put the focus on SpD here, however, my mind was on bulky support sets when designing these defenses. My goal was to encourage a balancing of sorts for the defensive stats, allowing Cap to be relatively bulky without having to fear one full range (physical or special) of offensive attacks, while still allowing for extreme specialization if the player needs it. Going Impish with 48 EVs will even out both defensive stats at 228, which, along with a maxed out 410 HP, makes for a fairly bulky pokemon (of course, customization is key). This frees up 208 EVs to use to further bolster Defenses, invest in Speed to fire off speedy support moves, boost Attack to create a solid bulky offensive-mon, or any combination of the three. The emphasis on SpD also opens the door for more plausible Curse/Bulk Up sets (more poll jumping, i know) or some kind of Tauntrados-like set.

With that said, my main calcs here won't be the rosy picture, quality-inflating max/max numbers, but rather a theoretical bulky Spinner/Heal Bell/Support whatever build that I made up.

Basically, you'll have some leeway here for bad prediction and can still do key amounts of damage against the kind of pokemon this CaP should be dealing with. Defensively, this spread does well against the pokemon it's supposed to be switching in on and taking hits from, but taking on classic offensive threats is still a big risk. It cannot just jump in on Scizor and Salamence and be the best sweeper ever everever, because that's not its job (unless we give it Fire and Ice attacks, which we should, then that could be one of its jobs). CaP doesn't have to go mixed, though, like it is in these calcs. Specialization allows you to take on many more specific threats that you couldn't before (for instance, max/max Def CaP9 vs. LeadElf Explosion: 269 - 317 (65.61% - 77.32%)). Going full dedicated on defenses will garner stats of 410/284/228 (max/max Def) or 410/196/309 (max/max SpD). Again, it all depends on the framework and strategy of the player's team.

Phew! Thanks for reading all that. I hope you got a clear picture of how this spread works. I won't go into a lengthy wrap up here, because I think I've already explained it to death.

Here's a stat spread I have drafted. Critique at will.

HP: 90
Attack: 120
Defence: 80
Special attack: 60
Special defence: 100
Speed: 115

Physical sweepiness: 191
Physical tankiness: 113
Special sweepiness: 95
Special tankiness: 137
Offence/defence balance: 18.5
Physical/special balance: 28.2
BSR: 514

This I feel offers a good balance between speed and bulk, the latter of which is necessary to allow CAP9 to come in in the first place, and the former of which is required to stop the secondary before it happens. High base attack allows CAP9 to decimate secondary effect users not named Skarmory.

I explained my reasoning behind 120 base attack in an earlier stage: this allows CAP9 to 2HKO most physical walls (with the exception of Skarmory) without having to go mixed. 115 base speed allows CAP9 to outspeed the majority of secondary effect abusers, including some that CAP9 could outspeed even without speed EVs. 90/80/100 defences should provide sufficient bulk for CAP9 to switch in on neutral attacks (mostly special ones since most secondary effect abusers tend to use special attacks).

Physical Tankiness: 119 - Rank 1: Above Average

Offense/Defense Balance: 19.1 - Moderate Bias to Offense
Physical/Special Balance: 21.2 - Bias to Physical

Overall Rating: 497 - Excellent
BST: 570

Explanation:

85/88/97 Defenses: Almost exactly like Porygon2, but with very different typing. CAP9 could be EVed to be quite the tank, or at least take weaker SE attacks and most neutral attacks. Though it's not so bulky that it can take Hydro Pumps or Leaf Storms. It won't stop sweepers, but it can at least hang in there, especially against weaker tanks/walls.

Base 115 attack, when maxed, can OHKO Latias and Starmie with a base 80 Dark attack. It can also cripple Rotom-A (bulky) to prevent it from switching into Stealth Rock twice, it can 2HKO Celebi and 3HKO Forretress with Earthquake.

Base 73 special attack, with no investments and a Life Orb, allows for a 2HKO on Skarmory with Flamethrower (should we choose to give it to CAP9) and, by extension, a OHKO on Forretress. It also is just high enough to allow for a feasible Nasty Plot set, like Toxicroak. While not an essential stat, it's just high enough to be usable.

Base 112 speed allows for out speeding Latias, when maxed (though you miss out on the damage needed) but it also allows for out speeding maxed base 95s when left neutral and it eases the ability to out speed base 100s who don't max out speed. You can also get the jump on Infernape, if you want.

EDIT: I hope it's not to similar to Objection's! The speed tiering should be different enough, I think.

Spread

100 HP / 125 Atk / 80 Def / 60 SpA / 85 SpD / Spe 91

Stats

HP: 341 - 404
Attack: 257 - 286 - 349 - 383
Defense: 176 - 196 - 259 - 284
Special Attack: 140 - 156 - 219 - 240
Special Defense: 185 - 206 - 269 - 295
Speed: 196 - 218 - 281 - 309

Explantion

HP: 100 HP EVs give CAP9 just enough bulk to pull off 101 HP Substitutes, which can be very beneficial as weaker attacks will generally not break CAP9's Substitute. Also, since this CAP can go a bit more on the defensive side, 100 HP is a great number to hit.

Attack & Special Attack: When I was looking for stat spreads, I really wanted CAP9 to have a high Attack stat, so I decided to work with base 125 as it provides the necessary 2HKOs and OHKOs CAP9 should be aiming for. It also has two great STAB attacks to use, so I would like this CAP to use them to its fullest potential. I didn't want this CAP9 to use any special moves, so I attempted to force people not to use them by making CAP9 have a pitiful base Special Attack of 60. It really doesn't need to use special moves at all.

Defense & Special Defense: Since I previously said this CAP can go on the more defensive side, I followed that direction and provided CAP9 with defensive base spreads of 80 and 85, respectively. With base 100 HP to back up the defenses, CAP9 is capable of surviving many attacks that are crucial.

Speed: The Speed number I chose was to outpace Lucario and the Rotom-formes. I mainly didn't want the former to hit hard with STAB Close Combat, so I gave it base 91 Speed to outpace even the fastest Jolly Lucario variants (which I'm starting to see lately). I didn't want to make this any faster, because in my opinion, it doesn't really need to outpace anything else other than the ones I just mentioned.

Offensive Calculations

Adamant 252 LO Earthquake vs...

Max HP / 0 Def Adamant Tyranitar: 103.96% - 122.28%
Max HP / Max Def Relaxed Swampert: 43.07% - 50.74%
Max HP / 144 Def Relaxed Forretress: 38.98% - 46.05%

What I like about these calculations is that CAP9 is powerful enough to 2HKO Swampert, probably one of the biggest defensive threats CAP9 will be up against. Also, since CAP9 has a decent Special Defense stat, it can survive Surf and can easily finish it off with another powerful Earthquake. Not to mention that it can 2HKO Forretress with Stealth Rock in play as well, a Pokemon that is made to spill out entry hazards.

Adamant 252 LO Crunch/Pursuit vs...

Max HP / 168 Def Bold Rotom-A: 87.50% - 103.29%
Max HP / Max Def Bold Cresselia: 51.80% - 61.26%
Max HP / 220 Def Bold Celebi: 66.83% - 78.71%

I liked how Cresselia, one of the most defensively sturdy Pokemon, is 2HKOed from Crunch, and how RestTalk Rotom-A doesn't stand a chance. Celebi will be in big trouble when it comes face to face with CAP9, as Grass Knot won't be a OHKO, while Crunch scores a 2HKO.

Defensive Calculations

Damage taken with 4 HP / 0 SpD/Def from...

Relaxed 0 SpA Swampert using Surf: 59.65% - 70.76%
-----------------------------using Hydro Pump: 75.44% - 89.47%
Timid 252 SpA Latias using Surf: 61.99% - 73.10%
------------------------using Draco Meteor: 68.42% - 80.70%
Bold 0 SpA Celebi using Grass Knot (100 BP): 72.51% - 85.96%
Adamant 252 Atk Band Tyranitar using Stone Edge: 48.39% - 57.18%
-------------------------------------using Crunch: 38.89% - 45.91%

Notice how these calculations are being used against CAP9 with 4 HP and 0 SpD/Def EV investment? This means that if CAP9 were to be used with a bit more bulk, it can survive multiple moves thrown at it, such as Forretress' Explosion and Rotom-w's Specs Hydro Pump. It's also good to know that it lived through Hydro Pump from Swampert, Draco Meteor from Latias, and Grass Knot (100 BP, which may not even be true) from Celebi, all of which will be 2HKO or OHKOed next turn.

This spread offers an immense amount of bulk for a Somewhat Offensive Pokemon, while still allowing a good amount of Physical Sweepiness. The 140 Base Speed allows for a huge amount of utility, for example, Pursuiting Latias, Starmie, or Celebi before it can KO you. I feel as if 105 Base Attack is high enough for doing its job, as many secondary users are hit Super Effectively by one of its STAB moves, or are crippled by Taunt. Now for some damage calcs:

478 Atk vs 226 Def & 361 HP (95 Base Power): 288 - 340 (79.78% - 94.18%)
Timid Specs Latias Surf to Min/Min CAP9, OHKOs only 2.56% of the time with SR in play.

405 Atk vs 226 Def & 361 HP (100 Base Power): 193 - 228 (53.46% - 63.16%)
Adamant Metagross Meteor Mash to Min/Min CAP9, CAP9 survives pretty easily.

214 Atk vs 226 Def & 361 HP (150 Base Power): 153 - 181 (42.38% - 50.14%)
Min Attack Bronzong Gyro Ball to Min/Min CAP9, 2HKOs 29.91% of the time with SR or never without it.

236 Atk vs 226 Def & 361 HP (80 Base Power): 182 - 216 (50.42% - 59.83%)
Min Sp.Atk Celebi Energy Ball (Grass Knot not used because Base Power is unknown at this time) to Min/Min CAP9, CAP9 survives pretty easily, can even take 2 hits 22% of the time with Leftovers.

I can run some more calcs but these should show the defensive prowess of my stat spread (imagine what this Pokemon could take if it invested in its defenses). Taking a Super Effective Specs attack without any defensive investment is pretty impressive, I would say. Its offenses may be weaker than other spreads here, but it still has a lot of offensive power which is backed up with its high Speed and defenses.

I feel, however, that this spread is not broken due to that lower Attack stat. This allows physical walls to wall it a bit more easily. For example, 216 HP Gyarados (BulkyGyara) survives two Crunches pretty easily (even if CAP9 has a Life Orb, it can never 2HKO with SR) and can hit back with STAB Waterfall. Hippowdon takes Earthquakes for less than 100 damage on average. Swampert isn't even 3HKOed. Skarmory resists Crunch and is immune to Earthquake. Even Hasty Salamence is never 2HKOed with SR in play.

A few comments before I'm done.

 • 101 HP Subs are obtained with only 172 EVs, leaving 336 EVs for Speed and Attack.
 • 56 EVs an a Jolly Nature outspeeds base 115s, leaving 452 EVs for Attack and bulk. (Other than Aerodactyl leads, nothing is very common between base 140 and base 115)
 • Alternately, if an Adamant nature is used, 184 EVs outspeed the 115s.
 • These numbers allow various EV spreads for different purposes, such as maximizing the Attack stat, maximizing the Speed stat, 101 HP Subs, maximizing bulk, etc.

 • 580 Base Stat Total is on par with the Legendary Trio legends and below some non-legends like Tyranitar and Salamence. I feel as if, for an Excellent BSR Pokemon, a high Base Stat Total should be acceptable.
 • I feel as if Special Attack isn't very valuable on this Pokemon as its bulk and attack power, in combination with the move Taunt, can achieve the concept of Stopping the Secondary against the many physical walls of the tier. I believe that a strong Special Attack will achieve the same thing as Taunt will, which is forcing the wall out and making it not use its secondary move. However, in my opinion, 35 is the low point for realistic purposes. Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop all have this Special Attack. Pokemon like Heracross and Skarmory have 40 base Special Attack as well.

One thing we don't want CAP9 to become is a copy of Tyranitar. Tyranitar has similar typing and on many teams has a similar purpose of stopping the most common secondary effect users. To avoid making CAP9 to similar to Tyranitar, its base stats should be significantly different. Fuzznip's spread in particular seems to close to Tyranitar's, but most of the others seem far enough from Tyranitar by having high Speed stats.

I fail to see how my spread is "too close" to Tyranitar. Let's compare:

Tyranitar: 100 HP / 134 Atk / 110 Def / 95 SpA / 100 SpD / 61 Spe

Mine: 100 HP / 125 Atk / 80 Def / 60 SpA / 85 SpD / Spe 91

That's a very big difference if you ask me, please explain how my spread is similar.

My suggested spread:

HP: 110
Attack: 105
Defense: 89
S. Atk: 50
S. Def: 100
Speed: 101

Reaches 555 BST.

Slightly higher than Pokemon like Gyarados and the starters.
The speed allows it to outrun all Base 100 pokemon (Celebi and Jirachi being common secondary users). It also allows it to outrun max speed Rotom-a with a speed neutral nature and 252 speed EVs. High HP for balanced defenses. Biased slightly more to special defense due to the large number of specially based secondary users. Attack is high enough to do lots of damage with pursuit and earthquake, but not high enough to encourage sweeper status. Special attack is low because it's planned to be useless. I'll post some calcs later on.

Fuzznip: Let me see...

Ah, yes.

All of your stats, except for speed and hitpoints, are lesser versions of T-Tar's, essentially an Excellent variation on T-Tar's Fantastic spread. They are mostly arranged in the same fashion, too, counting the Sp. Defense boost from Sand Stream being higher than Defense. Plus, when it comes to distinguishing speed, a major activity of this CAP, you are the only person to have less than base 100 speed so far, a critical milestone in general. So, your spread essentially makes a slow, bulky physical attacker with tons of weaknesses. And Tyranitar is essentially that as well, without Ice Beam weakness, and with a bigger Close Combat/DynamicPunch/Bullet Punch weakness, and being a bit slower than your own spread. But really, the only thing 91 speed does that 61 doesn't is outspeed Rotom-A, Roserade with max speed investment, and a few Base 100's that don't run speed.

Anyways, can there be a downloadable stat calculator? I don't get how to download Javatools.

Reasoning

HP--110--This needs to switch in a lot, so it needs to take hits on both sides. What better way to do this than with high HP? 101 HP substitutes without full investment is also fun. Makes subseeding a bit harder to deal with, but we're weak to grass already.

At--120--I wanted good special defense, so I absolutely needed high attack to make up for it. High attack makes pursuits more effective, and high attack EQ is very useful.

Df--80--A pretty good defense score. Taking mispredicted U-turns and physical hits off things like Skarmory/Forretress is important. 110/80 is very respectable.

sA--70--Special attack of 70 lets it hit Skarmory and Forretress pretty damn hard with Fire Blast, should it want to. 2HKO on Skarmory with SR+Leftovers, OHKO on all but the most specially defensive Forretress. More Satk EVs are needed if a 2HKO on Hippowdon with Hydro Pump/Grass Knot is desired.

sD--90--Good special defense is important for switching in on predicted tricks. Mostly for the event that you guess wrong. 110/90 is very nice for taking special attacks.

Sp--85--85 lets it outspeed Forretress, Bronzong, Blissey, Swampert, Vaporeon, Skarmory, Metagross, Breloom, Smeargle, and Heatran; tie with Suicune and Cresselia; and be just 1 under Rotom-A. With a decent speed investment, it can outspeed defensive Roserade and Celebi. I really don't think it needs much more speed than this. Anything over 100 is just overkill, IMO.

I'll do some calcs later, and may tweak a few stats because of them. I like the spread as-is, though.

EDIT: And now, calculations. +1 atk calcs are given for the case that this Pokemon gets Guts.

112 atk Forretress's Gyro Ball (~90 power) vs. 4/0 CaP9
34.0%-40.0%--Also worrisome, but he'll have to hit you on the switch or else he's screwed, so you've stopped the secondary.

86 atk Bronzong's Gyro Ball (~105 power) vs. 4/0 CaP9
37.8%-44.5%--About the same as Forretress. You don't threaten it as much, though, so this could be problematic. Still, if you have a Guts boost, Crunch has that delicious 2HKO.

CB Ttar's Stone Edge vs 4/0 CaP9
45.9%-53.9%--Admittedly a potential 2HKO, but you also threaten Ttar with an OHKOing EQ. Just don't come in on Aqua Tail.

236+ atk Metagross's Meteor Mash vs 4/0 CaP9
61.3%-72.1%--You kill it before it kills you. Heck, with 252+ and LO, you can kill it before it does anything.

Special hits

0 satk Celebi's Energy Ball/Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 4/0 CaP9
53.0%-62.4%--2HKO with Leftovers. Concerning. Since most Celebi run Leftovers, I recommend we make this guy light. 60 BP Grass Knot does 40-47.

0 satk Cresselia's Ice Beam vs 4/0 CaP9
+0 33.1%-39.0%--not even a 3HKO with Leftovers.
+1 49.4%-58.2%--now it can 2HKO with Leftovers. However, CAP9 is immune to Charge Beam, meaning cresselia will need to have used CM or gotten the boost before. Since Charge Beam is most often seen on Resttalk Cressy, Taunt can really screw it over.

0 satk Roserade's Grass Knot vs 4/0 CaP9
40 BP 32.9%-38.7%--very manageable. Not even 3HKO with leftovers
60 BP 48.3%-56.9%--Less manageable. Potential 2HKO with leftovers
80 BP 64.1%-75.4%--2HKO with leftovers.

Again, light weight is good here. Still, CaP9 outspeeds and OHKOs Spikes support Roserade.

80 satk Blissey's Ice Beam vs. 4/0 CaP9
36.7%-43.2%--3HKO. Not great, but you do threaten Blissey quite a bit. There's also a good chance you just got a Guts boost from Toxic, bounced it back at her from Auto-Magic coat, or are now healing 12-18% per turn due to Poison Heal.

252 satk Latias's Draco Meteor vs 4/0 CaP9
61.9%-72.9%--Usually a 3HKO with Leftovers. Modest Latias pose a problem, but those locked into a choice attack are vulnerable to Sucker Punch. Obviously, you can switch into Thunderbolt no problem.

252+ +1 satk Rotom-h's Overheat vs 4/0 CaP9
65.4%-77.0%--Rotom-h's only shot at 2HKOing you. Specs and Modest are rather uncommon.

0 satk Rotom-w's Hydro Pump vs 4/0 CaP9
55.0%-64.6%--A clean 2HKO. Stay away from Rotom-W. However, if you outspeed, you can pretty much guarantee the OHKO with Crunch.
These calcs suggest that CaP9 could use Wish support or a reliable recovery move. However, it is still able to switch in on and threaten many secondary users. Also, light weight for low Grass Knot BP is a good idea.

Design

Essentially what I wanted to do is build a pokemon that brings Hariyama qualities into OU. It would have a decent starting attack but it would not be overpowering. It could also invest in one defense to wall either Physical or Special Attacks. Investing in both defenses would let the attack go to waste.

Now Hariyama's greatest problem was that it a) wasn't quite bulky enough even though it appears so and b) didn't outspeed anything valuable, much less any of its checks. This design seeks to use Hariyama's ability to specialize in a specific bulk and hit decently hard into an OU-level pokemon. This allows it to stop the secondary users your specific team has problems with, rather than only addressing one kind or the other. I am a well known supporter of versatility, and this spread offers it.

Features:

133 HP: The base HP level of this pokemon calculates to 407 HP. Thus it will always have 101HP substitutes. Blissey, which often relies on Seismic Toss as its only offensive option will be rendered largely useless, especially against special defensive variants.

122 Attack: This attack level is solid, but not broken, even with a +1 boost. Think of Electivire(123 Atk), its biggest problem is that despite its coverage and attack level, it has a terrifically weak STAB move. Earthquake isn't weak, but most of the Dark moves are only situationally powerful. Of specific note, Airborne Steels cause the STAB combination immense difficulty.

72 Defenses: To put it mildly, these defenses are poor without investment. Given the attractiveness of both Attack and Speed investment, they needed to be high enough to justify using them on another set. With 5 weaknesses, many of them common, this provides sufficient bulk with the potential for much, much more.

71 Special Attack: The way I envison it, CAP9 is probably going to use Earthquake and some combination of Pursuit, Rapid Spin, stronger Dark STAB, and a coverage move. 81 SA should provide enough leeway to get 2HKOs on relevant secondary users with high-BP attacks like Fire Blast and Blizzard. It's also high enough to easily crush weakened secondary walls if it gets Tricked Choice Specs in the course of a battle.

95 Speed: This speed level has several interesting characteristics. First, the maximum speed without nature is 289. This allows it to outspeed ALL Base 80 Speed Pokemon regardless of nature. Additionally this will outspeed Lucario and Roserade given the same nature and Speed investment. However, it avoids the canard of trying to always beat Base 100s in speed ties. Once you get over Base 100 you start running into always +Spe territory, and that hurts versatility.

Explanation

I started off with the Speed. 120 is fast enough to guarantee to outrun the vast majority of secondary effect users. In particular I wanted the Pokemon to not have to speedtie with or get outsped by Gengar, Latias, and Starmie, common users of Trick. If this Pokemon wants to be able to check them well, being able to hit these Dark-weak types first before having to take a hit is greatly beneficial. 120 also ties with Alakazam, the other common user of Trick.

115 Attack is high enough to get the job done, letting the Pokemon inflict enough damage to the defensive Pokemon that like to use status, while also being strong enough to guarantee KOs on the frailer Psychic types with Pursuit (should this Pokemon get it).

I felt Special Defense would be more important than Defense for this Pokemon, seeing as most secondary effect users use special attacks (think Rotom, Celebi, Vaporeon, Roserade, etc). As such, it needs to be specially bulky enough to overcome its unfortunate weaknesses to common special attacking types such as Water and Grass. 110 / 90 lets it take uninvested super effective attacks from these defensive Pokemon not too shabbily, while the high HP also means it won't be exceedingly vulnerable to ExtremeSpeed and Bullet Punch. 110 / 80 physical defense means it can come into Tyranitar with relative ease as well.

There are specific reasons for these numbers. Firstly, 115 Base Attack means with absoulte Max attack, Persuit deals enough damage to render Latias dead on it's new switch in, due to Rocks, provided they were already down. (Taken from 4/0 Latias, AKA, Scarf/Specs)

Secondly, the Base 80 Sp.Attack is enough to 2HKO any Skarmory with rocks down with Fire Blast, without any EV's, Life Orb, ect. All but the most specially bulky of Skarms will be 2HKO'ed regardless of rocks.

Thirdly, Base 115 Speed is enough to outrun Specs Latias, while the sp.def and HP allows for a 252/0 CAP9 to survive Scarf Latias' Draco Meteors, regardless of Rocks. It will also have a good shot at taking a second Draco Meteor, provided that you have recovery.

Gengar is handled better by Scizor. Always. Starmie, I've never seen a Trick set, and CAP9 should never come in on Starmie anyway.

Fourthly... the Defence is high enough to, when combined with the HP, allow CAP9 to be able to shrug off most Physical attacks, that are not Super Effective. Skarmory will not be 2HKO'ing this CAP anytime soon. In fact, if we go for Marvel Scale, it has a shot of taking Lucario's +0 Close Combat, about the hardest thing that will ever hit this CAP (With no rocks. And the CAP will prob die after Toxic/Flame Orb Recoil, but hey, Earthquake kills Lucario!) Note, that was with no EV investments in Defence. This means it can, in a pinch, come in on Lucario, and beat it. Espially as +2 Extremespeed deals less damage than an SE +0 Close Combat.

I know 87 is an odd number... but it made the others work, and just so happened to allow the +Nature Lucario survival with Marvel Scale.

Finally, there are many routes for EV's for this CAP. Bulky, in either defence stat is viable. Offensive is viable. Mixed is somewhat viable. (It can destroy Skarmory, and then Blissey won't like Earthquakes.)

Note, that all of Fuzznip's Calcs, this CAP survives as well, with higher def and only 5 less sp.def. It just needs some HP investment to survive with rocks down.

Overview

With this spread, CAP 9 gets really good speed, with only four Pokemon being able to outspeed it in OU, which are Weavile, Jolteon, Aerodactyal, and Ninjask. It also ties with two other big threats in Starmie and Azelf. It's Attack is quite good for something that is as fast and as bulky as it is. Speaking of its bulk, that too is also very good. 106 HP is high, and it goes well with the few but important resistancs CAP 9 brings to the table, along with its 90 Defense and Special Defense. It's Special Attack is not horrible, but it is good enough to hit a Special Defensivly weak wall or tank on the switch.

In Depth

Defenses

106 base HP allows for 101 Subs if you went down that route, and if HP is maxed, you would also get a Leftovers number. As said before, 106 is great on a base 115 Speed and 116 Attack Pokemon. It allows it to make good use of its important resistances to Rock, Dark, Ghost moves, while not letting it be completely torn apart by its common weaknesses to Water, Grass, Ice, and Fighting. 90 base Defenses are there help to further this goal, while letting CAP 9 retain some of its bulk if it chooses to run an offensive set. And if it invests in its Defesive stats, the bulk it gets is great, allowing it to check some potent offensive threats better, such as Rotom-A, Lucario and Tyranitar without Aqua Tail better while only having to put in a few Speed EVs to let it still outspeed these threats.

Attack

I wanted CAP 9 to get a really good Attack score so it can damage stuff with its decent offensive STABs, instead of just forcing things out. And if it does force anything out, 116 Attack will smack fleeing Pokemon hard with STAB Pursuit. EQ will hit most of what a Dark STAB will not, and I want these hits to have a decent damage output. CAP 9 will most likely get coverage moves to use, and those moves, when netural, should have enough punch behind them to scare stuff away or hurt it. 116 is also not overpowered, so there is not really a chance of this spread being broken.

Special Attack

The Special Attack should not be high enough to make a mixed set seem worthwile, which is not the point of Moi's concept. It should be, however, be high enough to make use of a possible super effective move that will leave a specific wall damaged, or killed after a few hits or some EV investment. 53 base Special Attack fits into these requirments.

Speed

Speed is proabaly the most inportant part of CAP 9. If its speed is too high, then there is a chance it might become broken, or not fufill the concept because it become too good at something else other than its concept (points to Kitsunoh). If it is too low, it won't be viable enough to compete in the OU metagame. 115 is not exactly a middle-ground, but it is the best in my opinion. It outspeeds base 252+ base 100 Pokemon with 252 speed EVs of it own, and beats max speed Gengar and Latias to the punch with a +Speed nature and 216 Speed EVs. With only a few Speed EVs, it can outspeed capable yet slower threats, such as Lucario. 115 also would let CAP have a sweeping set to supprise opponents, providing that CAP 9 gets a good offensive movepool. And with only four Pokemon in the OU metagame outspeeding it (five if you count Stratagem) and two speed ties (three if you count Syclant), it should have plenty of oppertunities to come in and do its job.

Speed Table

Possibile Sets

A pure "stop the secondary" set is of coure possible, as that is the concept. The stats let it switch in, stay in for a turn or two to help the team, maybe damage something, and get out. It can threaten Pokemon that it can hit super effectivly with its STABs, and use Pursuit to damage them on their way out. A Choice set could arrive to help negate the effects on the team of a Trick user, and CAP 9 with this spread has the power and speed to pull of a set like that. Their would could also be a support set if CAP 9 gets a good enough movepool, while the main purpose of the set not to stop secondary damage but support the team in a different way. If CAP 9 got an ability such as auto-spin or something, it could run a Life Orb set to soften up the opponents team, while letting its ability take care of stopping the secondary. And there could always be an Anti-Lead set, with the main point of it to stop SR from even getting on the field.

Overpowering?

No.

While this spread does seem to be very good, the main reason why this will not be overpowering is becuase while it does have a lot or offensive power, and a good amount of bulkiness, and really good speed, it cannot do all of these things at once. While it can 2HKO many good secondary users, in order to do so, it must have a lot of attack EVs or use an attack boosting nature. If you invest too much in attack, either its defense or speed will have to give a little. If you make CAP 9 have max speed, it won't either hit hard enough or be bulky enough. And if you decide to use a Life Orb, that reduces the bulk CAP 9 would otherwise have. Also, it is very likley that CAP 9 will have a very good movepool, and while it could use most of these moves well, it can't use them all well in one set. So each set will without a doubt be counterable, and therefore not broken.

K, rough draft here.
HP: 100
Atk: 125
Def: 105
SpA: 75
SpD: 80
Spd: 85
BST: 575
O/D: 5.5
P/S: 38.8

The main thing I was looking for was a nice combination of power and bulk, with emphasis over power, a reversed Gliscor if you will. Actually, the defenses make CAP9 more defensive than Gliscor, but with a worse defensive typing. 85 Speed allows CAP9 to outspeed most defensive Pokemon, and if given a positive speed nature, also outspeeds neutral natured Rotom-A. Please give critiques please!

Just some analysis, if anyone cares.

Here is the average suggested spread:
HP/Atk/Def/SpA/SpD/Spe
103/118/87/63/90/108

The median spread:
103/120/87/60/90/112

Most commonly mentioned stat:
110/120/80/60/90/115

Consensus ranking (which stat the community "agrees" on most):
Attack
Defense
HP
Speed
Special Attack
Special Defense
Speed

Interesting!

Hah, nice familyguyman. I wonder how those statistics would differ if any outliers were taken out.

The mean/median/commonly stated spreads actually look very viable. That might be an interesting way of choosing this CAP's stats.

Taking out the max and min values for each stat yields the same average. Median and mode would also be the same since the middle value is unchanged and the highest and lowest stats can't be the most commonly mentioned if the average is left unchanged.

Good call though.

Interestingly enough, the stats suggestions are mostly normally distributed, or close to it.

EDIT: Oh and all of the spreads are viable except the Mode suggestion which is "Fantastic".

EDIT2: I'll add more updates, if people want them, as more spreads are posted.

PS: 172-Extremely Good
PT: 130-Moderately Good
SS: 66-Bad
ST: 156-Very Good
ODB: 5.5-Slight Bias to Offense
PSB: 41.0-Extreme Bias to Physical
OVERALL: 497-Excellent

Overview: This set is supposed to be a Snorlax-Hariyama hybrid. It has decent defenses great HP, and good and very strongly physical offenses.

HP: This spread has a MASSIVE HP stat. It can deal with Blissey's Seismic tosses quite well, set up huge Subs (and maybe pass them if we want to). Having such a huge stat lets you focus EVs into its other stats.

Attack: This pokemon's attack would be very similar to that of Hippowdon and Swampert-Strong enough with good moves like EQ, but not going to sweep without a boost. However, this guy is still quite powerful, so don't underestimate it.

Defense: Yeah 68 looks bad, but its better than Tentacruel and Snorlax, who are quite strong defensively. With his massive HP, and some EVs invested in it, this thing could be quite a tank.

Special Attack: Worthless. This pokemon is not going to be a special attacker. I'm sorry if this offends you. the2 in 42 is there to make the BST a nice even number like 545.

Special Defense: This guy has the same SpD as Starmie, who is a fairly strong defender. 80 is good enough to keep CAP9 from dying form every Special Attack (if you include his Massive HP stat). This shouldn't be much of a trouble.

Speed: 100 speed out speeds Lucario and E-Vire and ties with Celebi and Salamence. This would start mind games with the Celebi user: Will CAP9 use Pursuit or Crunch? Is it running more Speed EVs than me? What if I lose the speed tie, will it KO?

So yeah, this is still a work in progress.
