Kid Icarus: Uprising

Managed to beat all chapters on intensity 9 after a lot of perseverance - few tips for those who want to try and do them.

For every level, Pisces Heal Level 4 is incredibly useful, you can go from no health to around 3/4 health which is just ridiculous. This saved me in Chaos Vortex, Three Trials, and Hades Heart chapters. Also, getting a very good idea of where the enemies are in both the air battles and land battles will help you a lot.

The hard chapter tips:

Chapter 7 - The boss battle in this is incredibly easy (just be careful of its sword and foot stages) but getting to Thanatos is a pain. Main thing is to get a really good idea of the air battle as it is really annoying. Once you get past the air battle just take it slowly, better to dodge attacks and attack the enemies when you can than go charging in. The main annoying rooms are when you're on the moving platform and the room before Thanatos. Invincibility and transparency help a lot on the moving platform bit as you don't have much room on the platform to dodge and don't want to fall off. As for the battles before Thanatos, use the pillars to your advantage to hide from enemies and be incredibly careful with the Mega Mussel.

Chapter 13 - Air battle is pretty easy once you get the hang of it and really until the Dark Pit battle things aren't too hard, just be careful in the battles before the mirror rooms. As for the Dark Pit battle, don't waste your time attacking the Lunar Sanctum Control Center until after you beat Dark Pit. Best way to easily beat him is to just use charged shots, dodge his attack then shoot. Using invincibility/transparency to get the odd melee attack on him can help if you're having trouble, but since you get a god drink after beating him it's better not to waste items. Not too hard until the battle before Arlon - this is where Pisces Heal really helps, as well as invincibility. Arlon himself isn't too hard if you're careful, just watch out for his laser attack as that will shave off insane amounts of health, and just concentrate on dodging and only attack when there is an opening.

Chapter 18 - PK (Straw Hat Luffy) covered most of this in his post. I found it easier to go for the centurion strong arms before the archers though as the archers damage may add up but it's nothing compared to if the strong arms manage to grab you. Be careful in the part where there's a strong arm, a guard, and an archer - I usually just run past them but sometimes you get unlucky and they manage to triple team you. In the battle before Pit's Body ONLY go behind the juggernaut if the strong arms are near it as otherwise they will start throwing weights at you and you won't be able to dodge them then just spam attack them. PK covered the Pit's Body battle but as for the air battle afterwards, use your blue bubbles when you get surrounded by three guards, this happens a few times and better be safe than get triple teamed by them.

Chapter 19 - Use a fast weapon so you can just run past the enemies on the stairs otherwise that damage can really add up (not much space to dodge their attacks). Pisces Heal is seriously helpful here and until the battles where you have to hit the targets on the pillar, things aren't too hard - just take that slowly. DON'T underestimate the chariot master, he may be easy on lower intensities, but he is really annoying on 9, I went into crisis mode a few times, so if you still have pisces heal here, that'll help. Effect recovery helps a lot in this fight as the fire bombs he drops are what really start to add up damage with that + the burn.

Chapter 21 - Max Pisces Heal + Max Aries Armor is all I brought as this is just about surviving as long as possible. The air battle is insanely hard - concentrate on taking out Chaos Kin's fire missiles as those do insane damage because of the burn. Just be happy to survive the air battle and then the first two waves are the annoying ones, especially the second, but once you get past them, everything's pretty easy until wave 12, though be careful on the shootfly wave. Use aries armor on stages 2 and 13. The actual chaos kin battle isn't very hard, just be careful of his charge attack. One thing to watch out for though in this level is Dark Pit accidentally attacking you so it's best to stay clear of him - he also attacks you if you attack him "accidentally" so don't do it...

Chapter 23 - Hardest chapter in the game imo. The air battle itself is pretty easy, the main thing is when you find Hades, use your blue bubbles on the enemies. The land battle however is incredibly annoying, it's tough enough to get to Hades Heart and then that battle -_-. First bit that can catch you is the Cellular Monoeyes after the first room, I used invincibility for the first three, and then when you get to the green platforms you shoot, take out the monoeyes before moving forward as they're easy to take out then but annoying when you go up the platforms if you don't shoot them. The next annoying part if you're not careful is the cellular sinistew - just spam melee attack it quickly as it does stupid amount of damage if it grabs you. From there things aren't too bad until the wave of battles before Hades Heart. Though it's hard not to use Pisces Heal here, not using it will really help when it comes to the Hades Heart battle. The main annoying one in these waves is the Erinus, I used invincibility a few times to help against it, just be really careful of its top half spin attack once you've split it into two. The Hades Heart battle is incredibly hard, I know Acklow talked about using a Bow so if you can do the level with a bow then that'll help, but I used Claws as couldn't get to Hades Heart with a bow. Just stay away from the green aura'd one as that's a fake and you'll want to take as little damage as possible because once the real heart goes into red rage aura, things start to get tough - you have to get it into this stage 5 times before you take it out a few attacks after that. It's as fast as +4 speed lightweight power claws so it's not easy to run from, try and dodge out the way when it comes - if you've got Pisces Heal then things will be much easier, just try and take less than half health from each angry phase as you'll recover about 3/4 when you use it (I used it on the 3rd rage phase).

Chapter 24 - Tough chapter because of the amount of battles and a few annoying bosses reappearing. Up until the battles before Kraken, things aren't too hard, just take Phoenix slowly (concentrate on dodging when it uses fire attacks) and be careful of the Mimicuties. Also fast weapons help for quickly running up to the battle before bosses. In the battles before Kraken, your main threat is the spinning Claxis so concentrate on that and just be careful of the Space Pirate that will come charging after you. For Kraken, mega laser helps loads, as well as going up close to it, using invincibility as it goes to bite you then spam melee attacking it. The main attack to be careful of is when it shoots balls at you as if you get hit by one, you're almost certainly going to get hit by the others. Just take Magnus vs Gaol slowly, Gaol is pretty easy, but Magnus is the one to watch out for, just don't let him get close as he'll melee attack you for a load. Fake Palutena just requires moving around while shooting. The Great Sacred Treasure is ridiculously hard - try and keep Pisces Heal for it as it'll help a lot, just concentrate on dodging and wait for openings to attack it, the main attacks to watch out for are the fire ball shooting and when it charges at you.

Chapter 25 - this isn't that hard, but just putting it in as if you don't only attack Hades with charged shots, it can be incredibly hard - charged shots do WAY more than normal shots so the wait for them to charge won't matter.

Mainly for PK as he wanted a pic of the completed Hades Treasure Hunt - yes I used feathers for some but try beating boss battles on hard -_-

This is very impressive, and so is your completion of the Treasure Hunt. I hope to achieve the same, so I was wondering if you think a certain weapon type is the best overall? I've stuck with blades for almost the entire game.

Also, I'm surprised you listed Chapter 7 as one of the hard ones... it's the second one I tried on maximum intensity, and I did it on the first try.

I used Claws for pretty much every chapter except 22 I used a Club as it's mostly air battle. I don't think there's really a best weapon though. I prefer Claws mostly because of the speed boost making dodging easy but I know others who don't like using them much.

Yeah I found it mostly annoying because of the last two parts before Thanatos, so I can understand why if you found those two bits easy it wouldn't be too hard for you.

Where's the Chapter 9 tips Joel ;__;, Underworld Gatekeeper is a bitch, can't get past that -___-

Where's the Chapter 9 tips Joel ;__;, Underworld Gatekeeper is a bitch, can't get past that -___-

Didn't want to make it too long xD. Tbh the best thing you can do with that air battle is just keep on trying as it is annoying but once you get an idea of where every enemy will appear, you can get to the underworld gatekeeper with at least half health or so, and from there just dodge its blue and yellow bullets by circling, I usually used blue bubbles on the fire rockets as they're harder to dodge, but the best way to dodge them is by flicking the circle pad one way then the other to do a dodge. When it does its charge at you, it goes for the center more than the corners so I just stayed in one of them.

Once you get past Gatekeeper the chapter is pretty easy luckily, Hewdraw is the only slightly annoying boss of the 3 you reface and since you can fully heal in the hot spring when you get in and after every boss battle, you don't have to worry how much health you lose. From there you generally get some health recovery after every room so just be careful and ensure don't go charging in stupidly at enemies.

Medusa herself just requires going in circles in first part, then just ensure stay away from the fire bombs she throws at you. Circling while shooting also beats her when you're in her face and she's firing at you. As for when you;re vs just her head I usually used blue bubbles when she fired those 3 poison attacks at you as and just concentrated on dodging the other attacks as the poison ones do the most damage.

Also, if you're struggling by using the three sacred treasures, just use your own weapon. I couldn't do it with them and the only annoying thing with using your own weapon is not being able to kill the ornes, but you can dodge the ones in the tunnel by staying to the bottom left and just have to be careful off the ones in the land battle, especially the one in the fight before medusa.

Shifting from story to Multi for a sec!

I just made this:
Magnus Club
Ranged: 3.5
Melee: 3.0
Melee defense+1
Knockback def+1
Poison+1
Stamina+3
Speed+4
Value: 283

And I'm wonder if anybody with multi-experience can suggest powers to use with this mutha. Theory-carus is fine too.

Is there a specific way to increase the Melee/Ranged power of weapons through fusing? I've fused a bunch of awesome traits onto a single weapon but its attack power is pretty lackluster.

Halo Club
Ranged: 1
Melee: 1.5
Knockback defense +1
Confusion +2
Shot range +1
Speed +4
Melee Combo +4
Full-health boost +6
Value: 267

My favorite weapon type is claws, so I'm hoping to somehow get Speed/Melee Combo/Full-health boost onto a pair.

Full Health Boost, imo, isn't all that great unless you are at full health, as the trait doesn't work unless you are at full health. Otherwise, I would suggest looking at items that have high stats at lower values or higher values, since that's how the power of weapons are increased.

See this guy's post for details.

Magnus Club has no ranged offense to speak of, so you're going to want powers that help you close distance and survive the barrage of bullets whizzing across the battlefield. Lightweight and Transparency are good for approaching, while Super/Aries Armor will give you durability. Angelic Missile is pretty swag if you're good at aiming since you turn yourself into a projectile which can still damage targets and the fast launch speed makes you hard to hit.

There's a weapon fusion guide in the works on GameFAQs which has some very useful information regarding weapon modifiers and stats. It's still very incomplete, but I reccommend giving it a read if you want to know more about how weapon inheritance works.

I've been playing free for all WiFi matches, and apparently I'm pretty good! I get at least second place in my matches, and I think my rating is well above 1000, though I'm not completely sure what this means. The weapon I've been using is a Cursed Palm with 4 stars in ranged and melee with the modifiers Overall Defense (1), Recovery effect (3) and In-peril autododge (2).

First Blade: Ranged 6, Melee 0: Paralysis 3, Shot cancellation 1, Speed 1, Bkwd-dash cont fire 4, Full Health boost 2, and unfortunately Melee defense -2.

Cutter Palm: Ranged 3, Melee 3: Overall Defense 4, Health 1 and Confusion 1.

I'm considering changing to my coolbeans First Blade though, since I usually find myself in a gun fight with better players. I also love the autotarget ability when I meet dodgespammers.

watching yahtzees spiel and listening to a few people say the controls were hard at first makes me wonder if you people actually play using the stylus

because dear god why would you

change the directional pad to control the reticle and turn pit on the ground using R........ its so much better than using the shit touch screen controls

Yahtzee has lost all credibility and relevance as a game reviewer. For me, he's on the same level as AVGN as far as the question "should I play this?" is concerned. Watch him for a good laugh at some wit and funny visuals, but if you actually base what you will and will not play on what he says, you're beyond stupid. When I look at the comments and see people say "oh thanks yahtzee you've saved me from wasting another $40," I feel sorry for those people and their overwhelming ignorance.

My friend has cerebral palsy; her right hand is almost completely paralyzed. She loves this game and can play it just fine. What the fuck is your excuse? (and no she doesn't use the fucking stand)

I actually use the touchscreen, and since I'm left-handed, I use the ABYX buttons to move Pit and I do just fine. I actually can't find how someone can use the dp to control the reticle.

I'm a lefty and I play with the default controls and do just fine. With no 3ds Stand. Honestly, I think the default controls work the best.

So I just completed every chapter on 9.0 difficulty.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

That was quite frankly the hardest gaming related challenge i've ever attempted in my life. I'm thinking of working on FAQ for it.

Touchscreen no stand master race reporting in. I love the default controls. They offer the best combination of mobility and aiming during combat. I can't imagine playing using anything else.

Congrats, man! I'm still working on my 9.0 clears. I'm roughly halfway through the stages (1-10, 14, 22, and 25) with everything else sitting at either 8 or 7. 13 particularly has been giving me some real trouble lately. I find myself dying a lot in the very last Exotank room (the one with the two zerts orbiting a megonta). Even if I manage to take them down AND get past the clobbler, the hugworm usually fucks me over while I'm recovering in the hot springs.

I still dread doing 18, 21, 23, and 24 due to the overwhelming (BAN ME PLEASE)ry in those chapters.

When I tried using the default controls, I did ok in the air battles, but when it switched to the land battles, I had a hard time aiming and controlling the camera.

@NastyJungle: I tried the control scheme you suggested, and I have no ideal how you can play the game like that. I guess it's a good thing though since the controls tailor to the individual player. That's what I don't get about some of these reviews, it really does seem they just used the default controls, played maybe 3 chapters, read the rest of the story somewhere, and wrote a review off of that.

Also I like how that guy was mad that this game didn't follow greek mythology or something.

Huh. It came to me pretty naturally.

On a totally unrelated note:

Hey guys! Check out my Phospora Bow!

Hahaha this is me to a T. I wish the game didn't come with a stand, since a lot of people are giving this game a bad rap for requiring a periphal when said peripheral is crappy and unnecessary. I find that playing with the stand is almost impossible; If i'm not playing Kid Icarus on my bed or my couch i'm doing it wrong.

Dude... that was literally me a week ago. Glad to see you've got most of the stages done. Yeah Chapter 13 was a huge bitch, and was one of the stages I died on the most. Kill the zerts with the Exotank and deal with the megonta outside of it (its impossible otherwise). When the clobberer appears, go to the raised hill thing and shoot it from there. It will come rushing towards, but won't reach because of your elevated position. That's how I do it anyway. THE HUG WORM IS A DICK. I actually died when I had max HP (I was on a roll and got everything done perfectly) fuck the worm. Just keep at it.

Yeah those chapters are definitely scary. I suggest starting with 18 since its the shortest to "finish" (getting to Pit takes around 10 ish minutes if you're consistent).

Whatever you do, keep at it and never give up.

I actually really like the stand. Maybe it's just because I've got used to it, but I find it hard to play without it as I find it helps immerse you in the game, keeping the ds still all the time is much easier for me with it which is helpful with all the precise movements required at times.

P.S. PK bossing <3.

Unfortunately Cave Story has been stealing all my playtime on my 3DS...I really need to get to completing that treasure hunt...

As for the stand, I like it quite a bit, compared to using abxy as the secondary camera controls. Also, I like to play with the 3D on, so the stand helps make sure that the image on the screen comes clearly to me without me randomly wobbling the 3DS...

with Joel on this one, I like playing with the stand can't see myself playing w/o the stability it provides.
