Introduction
darkstone.png

Hey guys, this is another RMT courtesy of me. After having built a rain team which was pretty successful in my eyes I decided to try a different play style in the form of a sun team. One of the biggest annoyance for a sun team to face is an opposing rain team so this team was built particularly to combat rain teams in general. Since it is was a sun team it had to have a Sunny Day Ninetales for permanent sun in the form of its ability drought. Next I decided to add two of the main sweepers in the sun on my team purely to destroy rain abuser such as keldeo and politoed so SD Sawsbuck and Mixed Venusaur joined the team as powerful weather sweepers in their own right. The weakness to other fire types was now evident so I added Special Defensive Magma Storm Toxic Stall Heatran to absorb fire moves easily thanks to flash fire. Looking at my team I needed a stealth rocker and a physical resist along with a rapid spinner since most sun teams don’t enjoy stealth rock so I added Physically Defensive Donphan to my team to do the mentioned jobs for the team. Last but not least I added Kingdra as an anti rain pokemon who abuses politoed’s drizzle to counter rain teams and pull off a late game rain sweep if I lose my weather. Now that we are done with the basic idea lets’ get into the team.

Sawsbuck

(Sawsbuck) (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 112 HP / 248 Atk / 148 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Return
- Nature Power

Sawsbuck is one of my 2 main sun sweepers and in my opinion the best physical grass type attacker in the sun. Thanks to chlorophyll Sawsbuck is able to raise its decent speed to extremely high levels allowing it to sweep very easily under the sun. Under the sun, 148 Speed EVs allow Sawsbuck to get the jump on +1 base 108 Speed Pokemon, such as Choice Scarf Terrakion, as well as +2 Naive Cloyster, allowing it to effectively sweep whole teams. Outside of sun, Sawsbuck will still be able to outspeed max Speed Timid Politoed, allowing it to continue its sweep even against some rain teams. Swords Dance raises Sawsbuck's average Attack stat raises to a great 654, allowing it to take many bulky walls down. Return is the powerful attacking move with its high 102 Base Power and good coverage. After a Swords Dance, Return will always OHKO Latios, and will almost always KO max HP Celebi even without Stealth Rock or Spikes. Horn Leech is Sawsbuck's secondary STAB option, allowing Sawsbuck to OHKO frailer opponents or anything it hits super effectively and simultaneously restore health.

(Ninetales) (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 212 SDef / 48 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Sunny Day
- Will-O-Wisp
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Rock

Sunny Day ninetales is there on this team for one and one reason only. To get the sun up as the team depends heavily on sun to sweep opposing teams. Anything else that ninetales does for this team is an added bonus as ninetales is a very frail pokemon and would have probably been NU or RU if not for its ability Drought. I run a specially defensive set to take scalds from politoed all day and get the sun back up eventually forcing politoed to switch out. Sunny Day Deters other weather starters from switching in on me. If they do, I make their switch-in pointless with this move. Will-O-Wisp is good to hit opposing weather starters, mostly Tyranitar and Hippowdon so they can't OHKO me or lead terrakion as it sets up rocks thinking that I can’t touch it. Flamethrower is STAB that grants me enough power in the sun to break substitutes. HP rock allows me to hit volcarona which would otherwise be a huge pain to my team.

Heatran

(Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
leftovers.png

Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Magma Storm
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Protect

Heatran performs a number of roles on my team. Firstly it acts as a specially defensive wall sponging hurricanes all day long from Tornadus-T and Draco Meteors from dragons. Secondly it is my teams status inducer toxicing opponents and then stalling them out. Thirdly it stops Ferrothorn and other hazards setters cold with Taunt. Fourthly it acts as a Trapper with Magma Storm trapping Politoed so that one of my grass types can end him. Fifthly it acts as a sun counter and lastly it acts as a blissey/chansey bait and then proceeds to Magma Storm + Taunt + Toxic them to stall even the pink blobs out. Its steel/fire typing helps a lot to sponge powerful hits. Magma Storm acts as a strapping move to trap certain pokes or weather inducers to beat them allowing ninetales to set up drought safely. Taunt prevents pokemon from setting up/settting hazards. Toxic helps in stalling against pokemon who are trapped with Magma Storm. Protect helps me gain a bit of leftovers recovery while acting as a scouting move and also for stalling the opponent once toxiced.

(Donphan) (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Atk / 176 Def / 4 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Knock Off

Donphan is my teams Stealth Rocker as well as my rapid spinner.Donphan also is my physical wall and my main answer to Terrakion which happens to be a threat to all teams in existance. Donphan performs wonderfully when used in sunlight, being able to remove entry hazards for sun abusers and stand up against common threats in sandstorm. Additionally, Donphan's Water-type weakness is removed. In return, its Grass- or Fire-type teammates can switch into Will-O-Wisp (and weakened Scalds to an extent) and wreak havoc with colossally powerful attacks. Rapid spin is there to remove entery hazards for the team. Stealth Rock is an essential entry hazard which every half decent team needs. Earthquake is a powerful stab while knock off is a surprise move which is not too common but still effective as it takes the opponents item away such as a scarf from a salamence. The current spread enables Donphan to always 2HKO Haxorus with Earthquake after Stealth Rock damage. Meanwhile, Donphan sacrifices about 5% in overall defensiveness, which isn't exactly a significant difference.

(Venusaur) (M) @ Life Orb
lifeorb.png

Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 80 Atk / 252 SAtk / 176 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Growth
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power Ice
- Giga Drain

Venusaur is my second chlorophyll sweeper. I can’t describe to you the huge threat that Venusaur is under the sun with a Growth boost under its belt. We are going to begin with the spread. The current spread allows me to outspeed timid scarf latios while keeping max special attack and the rest is sent to attack to boost the power of Earthquake. Mix Venusaur with life orb is almost unstoppable mid/late game. Growth boosts my attack and special attack to insane level thus securing me the OHKO with a life orb boost. Earthquake is a physical move present to decimate steel types and hit its no.1 enemy heatran for an OHKO. Hidden power ice is used instead of HP fire to hit dragons which otherwise resist this set and then can fire stab Draco’s/Outrages to take me out. Giga Drain is a powerful STAB which allows me to hit quite a few pokemon for neutral/super effective damage and regain HP at the same time.

Kingdra
darkstone.png

(Kingdra) (M) @ Life Orb
lifeorb.png

Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 40 HP/ 36 SAtk / 204 SAtk / 228 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Dragon Pulse
- Waterfall
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor

Kingdra is just the PERFECT counter against Rain teams. Kingdra takes advantage of the opponent’s rain just in case I lose my weather so that it can sweep through their team.. With Swift Swim at his disposal, this guy can obliterate pretty much anything that takes neutral STAB damage from Hydro Pump. Kingdra just dominates in the rain with rain boosted and Hydro Pump, Draco Meteor and Swift Swim at his disposal. The 40 HP EVs moves Kingdra up to the next highest stealth rock number while also giving me a life orb number of HP, The listed EV spread allows Kingdra to outrun up to base 130s such as scarf latios and gengar under rain. 36 Attack EV’s guarantee a 2HKO on blissey after rocks under the rain which otherwise has no problem walling Kingdra. Dragon Pulse is a Dragon type move with no side effects whatsoever so I can use it to take on weakened mons instead of spamming draco meteors and lowering my special attack. Hydro Pump is a powerful STAB under rain and can 2HKO most pokes. Draco Meteor is yet another powerful stab to take bulky dragons on while waterfall is present to make sure that dedicated special walls cannot wall Kingdra completely.

Hello,

Nice sun team you have here, I like the use of Sawsbuck, I think it's a very good pokèmon! Speaking about your team, I'd use Offensive Magma Storm Heatran in place of your current one because it can get over Politoed and use Sunny Day first to being it from a Scald under rain, I think that's important to win the weather war against rain team. I will post the set that I'd use in this post later. Finally, I'd use an offensive EV spread and Ice Shard in place of Knock Off on your Donphan, I think it's a quite useless move and with an offensive EV spread and Ice Shard you can revenge kill the dragon types that seem a problem for this team. Good luck, Hope I helped.

Hi

Two threats seem to be very dangerous to your team: Terrakion and Rock Polish Sheer Force Landorus. The first is pretty dangerous since you only have one Fighting resist, Venusaur, which doesn't take Close Combats very well and is completely obliterated by a CB Stone Edge. With proper support, Terrakion can switch in often and really cause a lot of damage to your team. The second threat is much more dangerous to your team. Landorus, after Venusaur has taken minimal damage (SR should do it), is OHKOed by Earth Power, and the rest of your team dies regardless. With a Rock Polish boost, it will outspeed and beat everything on your team which is... bad if you want to win. Additionally, Kingdra is not good on Sun teams. It's just not effective. It's pretty good to stop Rain teams, but you won't always be facing them, and whenever you're not against one, Kingdra ends up doing nothing aside from being death fodder. I would recommend swapping your Kingdra for a Life Orb Latias. Latias does a lot for your team. First of all, it's a pretty effective check to Landorus and Terrakion, which is definetly very helpful for your team. Secondly, it also gives you a replacement check to Rain teams, which will also be effective in any weather condition including yours, which makes it more effective than Kingdra.

I'm gonna back up alexander with his donphan suggestion too.

Try out Roar instead of HP Rock on Ninetales? HP Rock hits Volcarona, but everything else is hit for pathetic damage by it. Roar is allows you to make Volcarona go away and take Stealth Rock damage if you're able to keep it on the field, which is effective when you wanna deal with it. Roar is generally more useful if you don't want Ninetales to be set up fodder too.

Here's the set you should use:
380.gif

Latias @ Life Orb
Levitate
Timid
EVs: 72 HP / 192 SpA / 244 Spe
~Draco Meteor
~Psyshock
~Hidden Power Fire
~Recover

Good luck!

Het, cool sun team.

Rock Polish Landorus pretty much 6-0's you if it gets a Rock Polish up. Donphan's Ice Shard can only do around 50% with the evs it has and the rest of your team gets outsped, even in sun. You're really weak to standard rain offense as well. Everything on your team is either 2HKO'd or OHKO'd by Tornadus-T's Hurricane while Keldeo posts a big threat as well. I do understand what you're trying to achieve with your Kingdra, but I think you'd be better of replacing it with a specially defensive Rotom-w. Rotom-w is equally uncommon on sun teams, since Hydro Pump only does half, but it can do Kingdra's job better. Rotom-w can take Hurricanes all day and take strong Hydro Pumps as well, just healing it off with Pain Split later. Rotom-W also provides you momentum, and a Ferrothorn lure which can makes sweeping with Venusaur easier.

Next up, you have trouble getting past Blissey / Chansey. A simple change of a move on Sawsbuck can solve this. Running Jump Kick > Nature Power allows you to do 50% to Chansey without a boost while OHKOing if you're at +2. Since you want Nature Power to take out annoying Steel-types like Heatran, replacing it with Jump Kick shouldn't be a problem as it can OHKO Heatran at +2 and do 63% - 75% without a boost, allowing you to KO it after some prior damage and no boost too.

Lastly I'd like to point out some small changes. Firstly, change Hidden Power [Rock] on your Ninetales to Solarbeam. You really don't need Hidden Power [Rock] as it won't do much to Volcarona after some boosts and you have Heatran. Heatran beats every Volcarona set with its combination of Taunt and Toxic bar HP [Ground] ones which are really uncommon. A better use of that moveslot can be Solarbeam. Since you are running the Sunny Day set, you can then just Sunny Day on a predicted Politoed / Tyranitar switch in and do more damage to them with Solarbeam, making winning the weather war easier. Next up, use Ice Shard > Knock Off on your Donphan. Donphan is your answer to DD dragons like Salamence and Dragonite most of the time, so having something to hit them back with is a must. It can also aid in beating RP Landorus, which, as I stated before, is a big threat to most sun teams, including yours.

Hope I helped. Good luck !

~Sets:

Rotom (Rotom-W) @ Leftovers

Thanks for the rates guys! means a lot!

@Alexander thanks for the rate. i agree with you on a faster heatran spread and i too was thinking about giving it more speed and i also changed donphan to an offensive version as it suits the team well and takes on dragons. Thanks once again!

@Jirachi thanks for the rate. I'll definately try latias over Kingdra when i get the time because Landorus truly is a big threat to this team and so is terrakion with the right support and I've changed HP Rock to Roar atm. Thanks for the rate.

@Eranu thanks for the rate. I'm still testing if Rotom-W does a better job than latias in this team but Latias most probably is a shoe in as the current tests show. I'm currently testing Jump Kick over Earthquake on Sawsbuck as at +2 Horn Leech does a heavy chunk to blissey anyways. I've replaced Knock Off with Ice Shard on donphan and changed HP Rock to Roar atm since i needed a phazer.

Nice sun team and I love the use of kingdra however you team itself is weak to rain dance kingdra as not only does it change the weather but tends to carry a dragon, ice and water type attack and your whole team is destroyed by that attack combination. Ice and water itself is a problem especially if rain is up hitting 5/6 of your pokes for SE damage. To fix this I'd run a standed jellicent in place of sawsbuck:

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Water absorb
Bold
~ Scald
~ Will-O-Wisp
~ Recover
~ Taunt
244 HP / 216 Def / 48 spee

Jellycent makes for a good defensive core with donphan as it can take water and ice attacks all day that are aimed at donphan. Taunt is for things that may want to toxic it or set up on it such as vaporian, chancy, ferrthorn and slowbro all of with are slower and are common on a rain team. 48 speed EV's allow it to out speed and taunt other jellycent carrying 44 speed EV's which is the standed spread for jellycent. Jellycent also cheaks terrakion which this team is weak to as others have mentioned and can cripple it with a will-o-wisp as it takes its attacks like their nothing same with landorus T, which jellycent after leftovers is usually 3HKOed-having a 0.39% chance to die to two earthquakes from max attack adamant landorus t.
