LadySal sends out.
Rediamond sends out and attacks.
LadySal attacks.

Reddy attacks...you can figure it out from here.

What are the specs on this "tourney arena"?

  1. Arena:
  2. <Engineer> Rectangular arena about twenty by thirty feet long
  3. <Engineer> Hard-packed dirt
  4. <smashlloyd20> but diggable
  5. <Engineer> surrounded by a moat of water five feet wide
Well, I only meant to send in Skorupi. Or, as I have claimed 5 EC (reffing ftw) and get one from entering battle, I mean DRAPION... but I'm not that evil.

Skorupi, go!

Fun, fun, fun.

Got to be creative to win, but it's possible.

First off, I want you to dig underground to dodge the Fire Fang, then come up and strike during Dragon Rush. Submerge again before Fire Fang can hit.

(NOTE: Whether or not dig is a two turn attack (it really isn't) is irrelevant. I am using it evasively to dodge the Fire Fangs.)

Evasive Digging~Dig~Evasive Digging

It's the umpteenth round of the Tour de Quelque Chose, and the competition is so hot that not even the hordes of fans in the stadium can cool the atmosphere. Two gates open up on either side of the arena, and the fans roar excitedly as today's combatants take the field.

Out of each gate walks a Trainer. The blue corner wears jeans and a hoodie with a red diamond embroidered on the back. The red corner, however, has taken a more lighthearted look. The lady's hoodie has the head of a Salamence.

The two Trainers walk determinedly to the center of the stadium. When they meet on the button of the Poke Ball emblem, they shake hands forcefully, then turn around and walk to their respective Trainer's Boxes. The noise of the crowd drowns out the tidings of good luck exchanged between the Trainers, but the message seems to have been made clear.

Duel between Rediamond's Phoenix and Lady Salamence's Hirome...BEGIN!

The blue corner winces. "It's EO, dumbass, not OE..."

Is it really, though?

As the MC's voice echoes through the stands, the Trainers call out their Pokemon: a scuttling Skorupi from the blue corner and a moderately regal Bagon from the red. The Pokemon lock eyes and stare each other down, and the speakers blast music to enhance the battle.

Hirome's mouth lights up as if it had taken a bite of a Spelon pie fresh from the oven. He charges toward Pheonix with Fire Fangs blazing. Pheonix, however, objects to taking the attack, and he points a claw at Hirome and tells him so. The quizzical Bagon halts his attack in time to see his foe Dig a bunker underground.

Hirome glances nervously around the stadium, baffled a bit by the disappearance of his leggy opponent. Before he can wonder TOO long about where the Skorupi is hiding, Pheonix relieves him of his curiosity, Digging to the surface behind Hirome and punching him with a stubby widdle claw, which does a surprising amount of damage for something so cute and teeny. It's not a cherry-tap, but it's not too powerful, either. More like an apple-tap.

The whatever-tap incenses Hirome, and he bum-rushes Pheonix, who can't rush his bum out of the way fast enough to dodge the hit. As a result, the baby scorpion gets spanked halfway across the stadium by the Dragon Rush.

Seeing that Pheonix can't burrow effectively with a tender hiney, Hirome flames at the mouth again and charges the Skorupi with his incendiary rabies. The Fire Fangs sink into Pheonix's back...or they would, had Hirome not been wrong about the burrowing thing. Yeah, Pheonix Dug again, allowing him to contemplate his misspelled name in peace.

The ASB post says that Dig, when used to attack, costs 6 EN, but evasive Digging costs 3. I don't know how the Repeated Use Penalty comes into play, though, so could someone inform me?

SKORUPI -- Dig -- 3 EN
BAGON -- Fire Fang -- miss -- 5 EN
SKORUPI -- Dig -- 6 EN -- 8 damage
BAGON -- Dragon Rush -- 6 EN -- 15 damage
SKORUPI -- Dig -- 7 EN
BAGON -- Fire Fang -- 5 EN -- miss

Rediamond, you're up.

Talked to Deck on IRC. Flinches don't carry over to subsequent actions. I dint see any clarification one way or the other in any thread, but that would be the stance of the Gamemaster.

Good, let the hate flow through your veins. Show him no mercy. And then the path to the dark side will be complete. (How fitting for a soon to be dark type.)

Surface with dig to deal damage, follow up with X-Scissor and Night Slash.

Remember, Hirome, you're mad. Rage on it for r1, and when he get's ready after the dig, just Fire Fang twice. Let your oppressor wince in pain.

From their ergonomically-designed seats, the crowd in the stadium roars during the slight lull in the action. The arena's high-tech force shields glimmer above the crowd barriers and the Trainers' Boxes, preventing any stray attacks from escaping. On either side of the stadium behind the seating, the 10-gigapixel scoreboards display a crappy, NES-style text-based depiction of the Pokemon's current stats.

In his little hidey-hole underground, Pheonix's contemplation of his misspelled name has inspired him to go on the offensive. He bursts from the ground, Digging straight into Hirome. The little Bagon flies into the air and lands next to the moat of water, his mouth still smoking from the previous Fire Fang attack. Hirome's ears follow this lead as his dragonic Rage drives him headfirst into Pheo.

For such an angry attack, the damage output seems rather small.

The choler has spread to Pheonix, though, and the Skorupi rushes Hirome. He tries to X-Scissor the baby dragon, but all those legs would get in the way, so he just slices him with crossed claws. Oh, wait...

That attack seems to have been a minor mistake. Hirome's ears smoke like a hopeless addict, and whatever its source is ignites his mouth. The Bagon's eyes glow bright red as a fan snaps a photo of him -- the picture would have turned out the same either way -- and he sinks his Fire Fangs into Pheonix's scuttling butt. A sizzling noise emanates from the bite marks, and Pheonix cries out in pain. His exoskeleton reddens like a lobster's, but the Skorupi has a bit more energy. At least HE managed to fend off the legions of hopefuls carrying drawn butter.

Hirome’s eyes are no less red, and his mouth is no less flaming. However, Pheonix has had enough fire for one day. He stands sideways to the charging Bagon, waves one claw at him, and screams, “OBJECTION!” at the top of his lungs. A text bubble bearing that word intercepts the Fire Fang, and the sheer shock at the result of his attack snaps Hirome out of the rage. He stares, befuddled, at Pheonix.

The Skorupi relaxes, thanks Hirome politely, and Night Slashes him across the chest. For some reason, Pheonix wears a hockey mask while performing this action. Looks like something out of Camp Lake of Rage.

I realize that the second Fire Fang missed, not the first, but the results of the round would have been the same either way. Besides, the flavor was easier to write this way.

Time to play with luck.

Confuse Ray because we can, just to possibly throw off momentum. After that, use X-Scissor to damage, followed by a Dig (standard one turn attack) to dodge a bullet temporarily.

The 10-gigapixel scoreboards change their displays from a full-color, HD, high-frame-rate play-by-play of the battle to a new 8-bit monochrome score readout. Seriously, who's in charge of this thing?

Pheonix starts off by contemplating how his name could possibly have been so grievously misspelled, especially when Google exists. He’s rather befuddled, so he sends Hirome his data in a Confuse Ray, but the rock-headed dragon can’t figure it out, either, and becomes slightly confused.

His brain fried to the point where his motor coordination center seems affected, Hirome lights his mouth and totters over toward Pheonix. He looks like he’s had one flaming shot too many; someone must have forgotten to card him.
Sorry, Hirome, 18’s the screwing level, NOT the drinking level.
52-bagon.jpg
The tipsy Bagon staggers over to Pheonix and…well…tips. Unfortunately for the Skorupi, he has put dodging on the back burner, so the Fire Fang burns his back. An angry, blistering bite mark scorches Pheonix’s skin, and he chirps in pain. The baby scorpion charges Hirome and crosses his claws for an X-Scissor. Since his claws are so short, it turns out more like a /\-Curtain Pull, but it still does respectable damage. Hirome the drunken wonder totters and falls face-first into Pheonix’s tail, his fangs poking the tough exoskeleton. The pain doesn’t really register until Hirome remembers to torch his teeth into Fire Fangs.

Pheonix performs a really sick-ass frontflip to catapult the now-unconfused Hirome off his tail then burrows into the ground without missing a beat. Even when burned, Skorupi are cool. Glancing around the stadium, Hirome notices no target, so he does a celebratory and invigorating Dragon Dance. His celebratory mood ends promptly when Pheonix Digs to the surface and rams his head into the Bagon’s lower back, but he still feels stronger and faster.

With his increased speed, Hirome rushes over to Pheonix as strong as a dragon. However, he was so fast, that he missed Pheonix, and almost fell into the moat. Pheonix countered by biting Hirome with an Ice Fang. Hirome's head became frozen from the cold, causing his attacks to be very limited.

Hirome continues as he did last time, and rushes at Pheonix. This time it connects, but Hirome's head hurts so much that it barely did any damage! Once again, Pheonix sinks his teeth into Hirome with an Ice Fang, and once again it freezes Hirome. This time it his face, causing him to become unconscious! I figured Reddy had it once he got the Drapion. The delayed evolution made for a fair, exciting battle.

Hirome, in my opinion, ought to have Double-Edge. It's great for Rock Head abuse (i.e. training before evolution).

Drapion are clutch \m/
