[OVERVIEW]

Teddiursa is a cute Pokemon, but as the saying goes, "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." Teddiursa is just like that. An Attack stat of 80 is higher than Scraggy's, but base 50 defenses and base 40 Speed mean you're going to need to find a way to make him outspeed his friends. That's where Quick Feet, his ability, comes in. There is not much he can do about his defenses, except for Bulk Up, which is hardly usable. As if Teddiursa hadn't enough to be sad about, Taillow towers over Teddiursa, better at everything he does, except for the fact that Teddiursa doesn't get stalled by Steel-types.

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Teddiursa's only set, but he runs it well. The way to run it is pretty simple. Turn one, Protect, or Swords Dance. If your move is Protect, that's all you have to do. It'll activate Toxic Orb, giving you your Speed boost. If you're running Swords Dance, then you'll have to get in Teddiursa at a time where he is not threatened in the least bit by the opposing Pokemon. Choice Scarf Gastly locked into Shadow Ball, perhaps. Use Swords Dance that turn. Toxic Orb will activate, giving you a Speed boost, and Swords Dance adds to your already high Attack. Depending on which Pokemon is staring you in the face, you'll do a number of things. Normally, you'd sweep with Facade, but if a Steel type is out there, you'd use Close Combat. If it's a Ghost, Crunch it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs are the way they are to polish Teddiursa's Attack and Speed stats, while the rest is put into HP, along with his defense stats to raise them by one point. The EVs enable Teddiursa to hit 14 Speed with a Jolly nature, and after Quick Feet kicks in, you reach 21 Speed, outspeeding the entire unboosted Little Cup metagame. Teddiursa likes Pokemon that can either soften up a team for him, or give him a free turn. Such Pokemon include Taillow, Encore Wynaut, and others like them.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Teddiursa has a diverse movepool, but most of the moves are not useful. Earthquake, Aerial Ace and Rock Slide are moves that can be used to hit threats on your team for super effective damage, but Toxic-boosted Facade is almost always more powerful. Brick Break can be used over Close Combat to avoid the stat drops, but you have to suffer the power drop to avoid the stat drop. Hone Claws is an interesting move, boosting Attack and accuracy one stage, but besides the previously mentioned Rock Slide, there isn't much it has on Swords Dance. Teddiursa has a number of good support moves, but he can't pull them off with his lack of bulk. Fire Punch is a good move, but unless you're being stalled by Bronzor, the other moves are significantly better. Bulk Up can help your Defense, but is hardly reliable and usable.

[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

Priority is to Teddiursa as a stake is to a vampire. It'll always go before Teddiursa, and will kill him. The next scariest thing is Wooper, a Pokemon that can wall Teddiursa until it falls on its knees, begging for mercy. Don't think you can muscle through Wooper with +6 Toxic boosted Facades, because Wooper has Unaware, which ignores stat boosts. It then has two choices. Curse up, or Recover stall out. Faster Pokemon, like Choice Scarf Taillow, will just kill it. If Fire Punch is not on the set, then Bronzor is a nightmare. As if that wasn't enough, Fighting-types like Scraggy and Mienfoo roam the metagame, OHKOing Teddiursa with a STAB Fighting-type move.

[DREAM WORLD]

Teddiursa's Dream World ability is Honey Gather, an ability with no competitive effect at all. It actually has no in battle effect. Use Quick Feet.
