Objection Vs. Jas61292, 5v5 Triples in the sky!

Need to get those gym Pokmeon ready, so an open challenge is in order:

5v5 Triples
2 Day DQ (Though I would prefer it to go even faster than that if possible)
1 Recover/3 Chills
ASB Arena

I'm gonna be bringing 5 fairly strong Flying Type Pokemon, so be prepared.

(Though, if you would be so kind as to not be too prepared, that would be awesome. I mean, bringing strongmons is good, but bringing a electric team would just be mean. But if you really want to, I won't stop you.)

Tell you what jas, I'll take you on and I'll bring 5 of my flying types.

All abilities
No items
Switch = OK

Okay, so we aren't really in the sky. But every pokemon here is flying type, so I imagine most of the battle will be airborne. Anyway, let's get down to the action!

Here's Objection's team;

Jas issued the challenge, so he'll send out his starting three, then Objection sends out his starting three, issues orders, and you guys know how this works. Let's get it on!

Emolga would be a problem for BigPecks, so I'll keep her in reserve. So, I'll start with Hatchet (Tomohawk), Lafayette (Honchkrow),and Bird (Unfezant). Lets do this guys.

I see ... well then, Shan Yu the Skarmory, Madam Mim the Emolga and Scar the Tomohawk can come out to play. What do all three of them have in common? They are capable of setting up a favourable situation for themselves and their allies, and that's what they're going to do right now.

  • Shan Yu: Tailwind (all allies) - Sky Attack (Tomohawk)
    • If you are taunted by your first action, change action 1 to Rock Slide (all opponents)
  • Madam Mim: Light Screen (all allies) - Volt Switch (Honchkrow)
    • If Tomohawk uses Taunt on you on action 1, change action 1 to Thunderbolt (Tomohawk)
    • If Tomohawk uses Taunt on anyone else on action 1, change action 1 to Encore (Tomohawk)
  • Scar: Stealth Rock (all opponents) - Air Slash (Tomohawk)
    • If Tomohawk uses Taunt on you on action 1 and wins the speed tie, change action 1 to Hurricane (Tomohawk)
    • If Tomohawk uses Protect on action 2 and you are not taunted, change action 2 to Reflect (all allies)

Light Screen would be annoying, but not anything we can't deal with (though it makes me wish I had Ledian here right now). Rocks on the other hand, are incredibly annoying. Hatchet, why don't you show them how annoying they can be, and how we deal with them. Meanwhile, Bird, you do the Taunting of Skarmory, and then you and Lafayette take out Tomohawk.

Hatchet: Rapid Spin (Tomohawk) - Stealth Rock (all)

Lafayette: Sky Attack (Tomohawk) - Sucker Punch (Emolga)

Bird: Taunt (Skarmory) - Sky Attack (Tomohawk)

Emolga is switching out, thanks to Volt Switch. Objection, your next pokemon, and actions!

EDIT @ below; fixed

Sending in Jafar the Gliscor.

Incidentally, there were no speed ties between my Tomohawk and jas' Tomohawk, because on each action one of us used a non-attacking move at +1 prio and the other used an attacking move at 0 prio. Also, shouldn't Skarmory be taunted for 4 actions not 3 (since these are only 2-action rounds)? And I think you might have mixed up Honchkrow and Unfezant's starting HPs. Honchkrow's is 110 (so his current HP should be 77) and Unfezant's is 100 (so her current HP should be 89). And how come there's no Light Screen on my team's summary at the end?

Anyway, we're gonna need that Tomohawk down quickly and I don't like the looks of that Honchkrow either.
  • Shan Yu: Sky Attack (Tomohawk) - Sky Attack (Tomohawk)
    • If Tomohawk gets KO'd, replace all remaining actions with Sky Attack (Honchkrow)
  • Jafar: Acrobatics (Tomohawk) - Acrobatics (Tomohawk)
    • If Tomohawk gets KO'd before your second action and you are not taunted, change action 2 to Screech (Honchkrow)
    • If Tomohawk gets KO'd before your second action and you are taunted, change action 2 to Stone Edge (Honchkrow)
  • Scar: Reflect (all allies) - Stealth Rock (all opponents)
    • If you are taunted at all, change all remaining actions to Aura Sphere (Honchkrow)

Stupid Sky Attack. Why did you have to miss. And why did Skarmory's have to crit. This is certainly not looking good. Also, Dual Screens suck (I wish Lucas were here). So lets try to stop it, or at least get up a Reflect of our own and try to see this one through. Meanwhile, Lafayette should Torment Skarmory to block those Sky Attacks, and Bird... just try to do better.

Hatchet: Taunt (Tomohawk) - Reflect
If you lose speed tie action 1 and Tomohawk gets Reflect up, use your own Reflect instead and Roost action 2.

Lafayette: Torment (Skarmory) - Sky Attack (Tomohawk)

Bird: Fly (Tomohawk) - Sky Attack (Tomohawk)
If Hatchet loses speed tie with Tomohawk action one, and thus Tomohawk is not taunted, Taunt (Tomohawk) instead

EDIT: Also, I just noticed that Hatchet's energy is too high, I think you forgot to subtract the energy from Stealth Rock.

Objection needs to send out another pokemon, and then jas' actions! Also, I feel like something is off. Feel free to review this stuff.

Yes, something is off.
  • If a move would completely fail because of an effect like Disable, Heal Block, or Taunt the move fails on its first use without costing energy and subsequent uses of attacks that will completely fail will instead use Struggle.
So when Skarmory's first Sky Attack failed, he shouldn't have lost any energy.

Anyway, since there's no way I'm getting rid of rocks, I might as well send out Hades the Charizard now.

Good job guys, that worked out really well.

Hatchet, you're probably not going to last this round, but you can use your Prankster skills to make them focus on you, at least for one action. So quickly roost up, then try to Confuse Charizard. Lafayette, you also heal up a bit, and then attack. And Bird, good job making up for round one. Keep going. Attack Charizard and Gliscor.

Hatchet: Roost - Confuse Ray (Charizard)
If Gliscor uses Taunt on you action 1, replace Confuse Ray with Aura Sphere (Skarmory)

Lafayette: Roost - Sky Attack (Gliscor)
If Gliscor uses Protect action 2, Sky Attack (Charizard) instead

Bird: Fly (Gliscor) - Sky Attack (Charizard)
If Charizard uses Will-O-Wisp on you, use Detect instead, but only once.

Let's see if we can put ourselves in a better position.

Shan Yu: Sky Attack (Honchkrow) - Fury Attack (Honchkrow)
I should be able to use Sky Attack this round because I didn't use it at all last round as both attempts failed. If this is not the case, then change action 1 to Steel Wing (Honchkrow).

Jafar: Combo: Quick Attack + Wing Attack (Tomohawk) - Cooldown
If that combo is for some reason invalid, change action 1 to Combo: Quick Attack + Quick Attack (Tomohawk)

Hades: Reflect (all allies) - Fly (Honchkrow)

So I accidentally refreshed the page right as I was about to post this. Thankfully, I remembered all the RNG rolls, and I wrote down the HP/Energy totals separately, so its accurate. Anyway, you guys don't care about that, you want to see digital bloodshed!!

Jas, your next pokemon, then Objection orders!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand why Honchkrow Sky Attack failed.

EDIT@ Below: Oh, yeah. I guess not seeing the next to each other in the formatting confused me.

Multi-hit moves (like Skarmory's Fury Attack) can disrupt charging moves like Sky Attack and SolarBeam.

EDIT @ below; good catch. I'll edit that in immeadiately.

What a time to have two pokemon weak to water.

  • Shan Yu: Tailwind (all allies) - Rock Slide (all opponents)
    • If you are taunted on action 1, change action 1 to Rock Slide (all opponents) and action 2 to Sky Drop (Swanna)
    • If you are taunted on action 1 and Swanna uses Protect on action 2, change action 2 to Sky Drop (Unfezant)
  • Jafar: Stone Edge (Honchkrow) - Thunder Fang (Swanna)
    • If Unfezant tries to use Taunt at all, change action 1 to Taunt (Unfezant)
    • If Unfezant does not try to use Taunt at all and Honchkrow is KO'd before your first action, change action 1 to Stone Edge (Swanna)
  • Hades: Fire Blast (Honchkrow) - Fly (Swanna)
    • If Swanna uses Ice Beam on Jafar and you are not taunted, change that action to Bodyblock (Jafar)
    • If Swanna uses Protect on action 2 (but not on action 1), change action 2 to Fly (Unfezant)

Normally the speed tiers of Swanna and Unfezant are annoying, but I found a perfect use for them here. Oh, and apparently you can Bodyblock a taunt. As dogfish so wisely put it on IRC, " it makes no sense, but you can, yes." And now its time to put that to work.

Bird, Taunt Skarmory to draw the Taunt from Gliscor. In the mean time BigPecks, you Bodyblock Bird to take the Taunt instead of her. Now that you will be taunted, take the time to both damage and avoid attacks (perfect speed tier right here) by using Dive on Gliscor.

Lafayette, in the meantime, you can probably take a Fire Blast, but not anything else, so Fly to avoid the other attacks then blow in an Icy Wind.

BigPecks: Bodyblock (Bird) - Dive (Gliscor)

Bird: Taunt (Skarmory) - Hyper Beam (Gliscor)

Lafayette: Fly (Charizard) - Icy Wind (all opponents)

EDIT @ Below: True. Though I could think up cases where it would work, as well as cases where it won't. We shall see.

Well, Bodyblock's description says that it won't work against attacks that strike in a way such that it's impractical to block them (citing Thunder and Earth Power as examples). Maybe Taunt is one of these, maybe it isn't.

After some discussion on IRC, I'm going to allow Bodyblock to redirect Taunt. Also, keeping track of all the priority made my head spin. I think I got it all right... And I'm not sure either of you expected this stuff.

Jas needs to send out his Salamence, then his actions.

Woo! Good job self. You really did a great job remembering that -SpD nature you gave Honchkrow. Shoulda Sucker Punched.....

Anyways, its up to you Roosevelt. Lets take out Gliscor than focus on Charizard.

Oh, and I believe both Skarmory and Swanna are Taunted, even though the post round summary doesn't say so.

BigPecks: Ice Beam (Gliscor) - Ice Beam (Gliscor)
If Gliscor is being Bodyblocked for, use Surf (all) instead
If Gliscor uses Protect, use Scald (Charizard) instead

Bird: Hypnosis (Charizard) - Hyper Beam (Charizard)
If Charizard uses Fly action one, use Gust (Charizard) instead
If you are Taunted before action 1 (but Charizard is not using Fly), use Air Cutter (all opponents) instead

Roosevelt: Hydro Pump (Gliscor) - Hydro Pump (Gliscor)
If Gliscor uses Protect, use Hydro Pump (Charizard) that action instead

EDIT: Also, I just noticed, the Hyper Beam calc in the last round is using Gliscor's Defense, when it should be using his Special Defense, and it did not include STAB. Thus I believe it should actually have done: [15 + 3 + (4 - 3)*1.5] = 19.5 ~ 20 Damage instead of the 14 it currently says.

Shan Yu: Sky Drop (Unfezant) - Sky Attack (Unfezant)

Jafar: Torment (Swanna) - Torment (Unfezant)

Hades: Fly (Unfezant) - Rock Slide (all opponents)

Objection sends back in Madam Mim the Emolga. Also, his actions! We're down to the final 3v3, no more switches!

Shan Yu: Rock Slide (all opponents) - Sky Attack (Salamence)
If you are tormented, change action 2 to Steel Wing (Salamence)

Madam Mim: Light Screen (all allies) - Thunderbolt (Swanna)

Hades: Reflect (all allies) - ThunderPunch (Swanna)

I might be leaving myself open to something, but this is pretty much the best I can do right now.

Ok guys. We got this. Roosevelt, you know what to do. Bigpecks, I would want you to dodge, but you are Taunted, so lets try to take down Charizard before it can punch you.

Roosevelt: Rock Slide (all opponents) - Brick Break (Skarmory)
If you lose the speed tie to Charizard action one and reflect is already set up, switch the order to Brick Break (Skarmory) - Rock Slide (all opponents)

Bird: Chill - Sky Attack (Charizard)
If Charizard is KOd before you start your Sky Attack charge up, use Hyper Beam (Emolga) instead

BigPecks: Scald + Bubblebeam Combo (Charizard) - cool down
If Light Screen is still up (as in Roosevelt did not Brick Break yet), divide the combo to BubbleBeam (Charizard) - Scald (Charizard)
