Rotom-F Update [QC 4/3] [GP 2/2]

479-frost.png

[Overview]

It's Stealth Rock weak, has horrible defensive typing, and now it can't even use 100% accurate Blizzards in permanent hail. However, Rotom-F does possess one thing that no other Pokemon has: STAB on both Electric- and Ice-type moves which gives it an excellent combination of coverage and power. Unfortunately, even its greatest advantage has a downside. Without access to Ice Beam, Rotom-F either has to rely on Blizzard's shaky accuracy or settle for the more reliable but far less powerful Hidden Power Ice. Still, Rotom-F's exclusive dual STABs and above-average attacking stats make it a valuable offensive Pokemon.

[SET]
name: SubSplit
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Pain Split
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Blizzard
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rotom-F's powerful STAB attacks allow it to run an effective SubSplit set without sacrificing coverage. Very few Pokemon can survive two consecutive attacks from Rotom-F, as Thunderbolt and Blizzard score a neutral hit on every Pokemon in the metagame, except for Lanturn, Magneton, and the rare Shedinja. This allows Rotom-F to set up a Substitute with ease and put the opponent under a lot of pressure when they switch out to avoid an attack. Substitute also blocks status and prevents Rotom-F from being easily revenge killed. Pain Split allows Rotom-F to survive longer and can offset the effects of Life Orb. Pain Split is also a reliable way of bringing the opposing Pokemon into Thunderbolt's KO range instead of always relying on Blizzard's shaky accuracy.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Leftovers is an option if Life Orb's recoil is unappealing, but the additional power allows Rotom-F to achieve many more 2HKOs. To showcase Rotom-F's power, here are some damage calculations with Life Orb and without entry hazards. Unless you have a dedicated Rotom-F counter, there are very few switch-ins that won't get 2HKOed.

Blizzard vs. 252/120 Cofagrigus 64.06% - 75.94%

Blizzard vs. 252/64 Spiritomb 69.41% - 82.24%

Blizzard vs. 248/244+ Drapion 61.52% - 72.59%

Blizzard vs. 252/0 Uxie 54.52% - 64.41%

Blizzard vs. 252/4 Ferroseed 46.23% - 54.79%

Blizzard vs. 88/0 Hitmonchan 84.41% - 99.62%

If Spikes or Stealth Rock are set up, then Rotom-F can finish off the aforementioned Pokemon with Blizzard and Thunderbolt instead of relying on hitting two Blizzards in a row. Will-O-Wisp is an alternative over Pain Split to cripple physical attackers and to wear down opposing walls. This will help against troublesome foes such as Gallade and Cryogonal. If you plan on running Will-O-Wisp, Leftovers would be the preferred item so Rotom-F can last longer as it can no longer heal with Pain Split. Another way to wear the opponent down is through Toxic Spikes. By repeating the Substitute and Pain Split routine, Rotom-F can rack up enough poison damage to get the opposing Pokemon in KO range. Rotom-F appreciates Rapid Spin support and a good defensive backbone due to its terrible Ice typing. Sandslash can set up Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, and take Rock- and Fighting-type moves aimed at Rotom-F. Qwilfish offers Taunt support, hazards, and helps take physical hits for Rotom-F.

[Other Options]

Rotom-F is very limited in its options because its only saving grace is its powerful dual STAB combination. A Substitute + 3 attack set is still usable. The third attack can be either Hidden Power Fire, which allows Rotom-F to easily beat Ferroseed, or Hidden Power Ground, which is helpful against Steel-types and Lanturn. Shadow Ball can even be used for its good neutral coverage. A Choice set is risky due to Rotom-F's Stealth Rock weakness and Blizzard's poor accuracy, but the option is still there for those that are willing to take the risk. Rotom-F can still be a good addition to a VoltTurn team, but there are more reliable options. Charge Beam can be used on the SubSplit set instead of Thunderbolt to power through stall teams; only phazing and Lanturn will be able to stand in its way. A defensive set is totally outclassed by Rotom-C, who has a much better defensive typing.

[Checks and Counters]

Without a Substitute up, Rotom-F is very vulnerable due to its horrible defensive typing. Entei, Hitmonchan, and Gallade can all take a hit easily and OHKO back. However, if Rotom-F is behind a Substitute, most of its checks can be 2HKOed, assuming Blizzard will hit. Rotom-F is also easily outsped, so without a Substitute, most speedy attackers will have no problem getting past its frail defenses. For more solid counters, Lanturn, Clefable, and Munchlax will all put a stop to Rotom-F. Munchlax with Thick Fat and Lanturn with Volt Absorb take almost nothing from Rotom-F's dual STAB attacks, rendering Rotom-F powerless. Support Clefable will get 3HKOed by Blizzard, but can easily stall out Blizzard's PP barring a freeze. Magneton resists both STABs and can threaten with Hidden Power Fire. Cinccino and Klinklang can KO Rotom-F through Substitute with Rock Blast and Gear Grind, respectively.

Mention Will-O-Wisp on SubSplit's AC and OO. I don't see any other problem with this.

Mention HP Ice somewhere (and the fact that it's inferior unless you're against a haxgod like SilentVerse)

[Overview]

It's Stealth Rock weak, has horrible defensive typing, and now it can't even abuse 100% accuracy accurate Blizzards in Hail. However, Rotom-F does possess one thing that no other Pokemon has:(colon) and that is having STAB for both Electric and Ice,(comma) giving it an excellent combination of coverage and power with just two moves. This gives Rotom-F quite the boost in power behind its amazing coverage. Unfortunately,(comma) even its greatest advantage has a flaw downside. Without access to Ice Beam, Rotom-F either has to rely on Blizzard's shaky accuracy or greatly reduce the base power settle for the more reliable but far less powerful Hidden Power Ice. With Still, Rotom-F's exclusive dual STABs and above average attacking stats make it a valuable offensive Pokemon. Rotom-F still has offensive value with its powerful dual STABs.

[SET]

move 2: Pain Split
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Blizzard
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Rotom-F's most effective set to abuse those powerful dual STABs. Even without Hail, Blizzard is still the primary option because of the amount of power that it possesses. Thunderbolt and Blizzard can score a neutral hit on any Pokemon except Lanturn and can easily forces switches. This allows Rotom-F to get up a Substitute on the switch and proceed to bring the pain. Very few Pokemon can survive two attacks from Rotom-F. Substitute also blocks status and prevents Rotom-F from being easily revenge killed. Pain Split allows Rotom-F to survive longer and can offset the effects of Life Orb. It is also a reliable way of bringing down the opposing Pokemon's health into Thunderbolt's KO range instead of always relying on Blizzard's accuracy.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Leftovers is an option if Life Orb's recoil is unappealing but the additional power is much more appreciated since you achieve many 2HKOs. Most bulky Pokemon such as Uxie and Spiritomb will die from one Blizzard and one Thunderbolt, sometimes even just two Thunderbolts will do depending on the amount of hazards, so you won't have to rely on Blizzard's shaky accuracy as much. In fact, Life Orb and a Modest nature allows Rotom-F to get past even the most dedicated special walls with a combination of Substitute and Pain Split. Will-o-wisp is also an alternative over Pain Split to cripple physical attackers. If you plan on running Will-o-wisp, then Leftovers would be the perferred item so Rotom-F can last longer. Hazard support is appreciated so Timid Life Orb Rotom-F can score some OHKOs such as Adamant 40 HP EVs Hitmonchans with Spike support and Choice Band Enteis with Stealth Rock and a layer of Spikes. Toxic Spikes will allow Rotom-F to abuse Substitute in order to rack up enough Toxic damage to get the opposing Pokemon in KO range. Rotom-F appreciates Rapid Spin support due to Rotom-F's Ice-typing. Sandlash can set up Stealth Rocks, Rapid Spin, and take Rock and Fighting-type moves aimed at Rotom-F. Qwilfish offers paralysis support, hazards, and helps take physical hits aimed at Rotom-F.

[Other Options]

Rotom-F is very limited in its options because its only saving grace is abusing its powerful dual STABs especially since Hail is no longer part of the metagame. A Substitute + 3 attack set with Hidden Power Fire is usable to beat Ferroseed. Hidden Power Ground is helpful against Steel-types and Lanturn. Shadow Ball can be use for good neutral coverage but most of the times you won't find yourself using anything outside its dual STABs since Thunderbolt and Blizzard usually hits harder. A Choiced set has been ineffective without Hail. The last thing you want to have happen is to get locked on to an unreliable Blizzard but it is still an option for those that are willing to take the risk. Rotom-F can still be a good addition for a VoltTurn team. However if you want to abuse Volt Turn, there are more reliable options than Rotom-F. Chargebeam can be used on the Subsplit set instead of Thunderbolt to get additional boosts. This can come in handy in powering through stall teams where only phazing and Lanturn will be able to stand in its way. A defensive set is totally outclassed by Rotom-C who has much better defensive typing.

[Checks and Counters]

Cinccino and Klinklang can KO Rotom-F through Substitute with Rock Blast and Gear Grind.

I've only checked the overview so far, but glancing through the rest of the analysis I see a ton of very basic errors. There are Pokemon and move names misspelled or not capitalized, extreme run-on sentences, and just a lot of obvious mistakes that would be very easy for you to catch if you read through it once yourself. So please take a look, fix the mistakes you can find on your own, and then VM me and I'll complete my check.

Hazards are important because you won't have to rely on Blizzard's shaky accuracy as much. (These three sentences just need to be completely rewritten because right now they're terrible. If a Modest nature and Life Orb allow you to 2HKO walls, then what does SubSplit have to do with it? The second sentence is an obvious run-on. How about a couple of calcs to show what KOs you get with/without hazards? Will-O-Wisp is an alternative over Pain Split to cripple physical attackers. You can't just take a skeleton and turn each bullet point into a sentence. There are several places in this analysis where it's obvious that's what you did, and it doesn't work. You need to put a lot more effort into your next writeup.
