Personally, I like the concept of a firefly pokemon, and with a whole array of new bug moves in D/P, Volbeat has gotten a few improvements. If only it had better stats...
Stats: 65 HP/73 Attack/55 Defense/47 Sp Attack/75 Sp Defense/85 Speed/400 Total
Abilities:
-Illuminate... is completely useless in the battling environment.
-Swarm boosts Volbeat's bug attacks by 1.5 when his HP is low.
Obviously, Swarm is preferable, since it actually does something.
Notable Physical Movepool (STAB Bolded)
Aerial Ace
Brick Break
Double-Edge
Facade
Focus Punch
Return/Frustration
Thief
U-Turn
Zen Headbutt
A few good options here.
Notable Special Movepool (STAB Bolded)
Bug Buzz
Charge Beam
Giga Drain
Hidden Power
Shadow Ball
Signal Beam
Silver Wind
Solarbeam
Thunderbolt
Thunder
Great options, but... Volbeat's Sp Attack isn't great.
Notable Support Movepool
Baton Pass
Captivate
Confuse Ray
Double Team
Encore
Endure
Light Screen
Moonlight
Protect
Rain Dance
Rest
Roost
Sleep Talk
Substitute
Sunny Day
Swagger
Tail Glow
Thunder Wave
Toxic
Trick
A lot of options here. Volbeat can be a good supporter.
Choice Item
Volbeat @ Choice Band/Choice Scarf
Swarm
Adamant Nature (+Atk - SAtk)
252 Atk/252 Spd/4 HP
U-Turn
Zen Headbutt
Double-Edge/Return
Focus Punch/Brick Break
Well, this is an... interesting set to say the least, although Volbeat's physical movepool is poor, so his options are rather limited. It could work, although he might need some support from teammates.
Supporter
Volbeat @ Leftovers
Swarm
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
252 HP/128 Spd/128 Def
Thunder Wave/Toxic
Light Screen
Confuse Ray/Double Team
U-Turn
Team supporter. You can go in, status the opponent, set up a Light Screen, and U-Turn to another Pokemon when you finish.
