[Won by Athenorodos] Battle! Athenorodos vs Engineer Pikachu (Ref: Zarator)

2v2 doubles
DQ Time: 3 days
Arena: Rock Cave

ARENA: Rock Cave
A rock cave. There are rocks in the cave. Rock Pokemon can easily disguise themselves as rocks in this rock-filled rock cave. There is a small pool of water in the middle for water Pokemon to swim in. There are neither stalactites nor stalagmites in the cave. The ground is extremely hard, so any digging or seismic activity will fail.

Woops, haven't been on except to ref.

Go, Rebel (Rebble) and Qing Long (Dratini)! Watch out for the non-existent stalactites!

Okay, then. I'll send out Nidhogg the Dratini and Typhon the Lapras!

So:
Nidhogg, start off with a Rain Dance. Then, use Surf to help Lapras and his Water Absorb ability and to damage the others. Finally, use Dragon Pulse at Qing Long.

Typhon, use Hydro Pump against Rebel after the rain is up and then Ice Beam against Qing Long. Then, use Hydro Pump against Qing Long unless it is Disabled, in which case use Ice Beam against Qing Long.

way to use overpowered Pokemon against me.

You can't beat them through sheer force, so you're going to have to resort to tactics!

Rebel, fire off an Power Gem at Typhon while it attempts to use Hydro Pump against you. As soon as your attack is fired, zoom your way behind a large rock; there has to be at least one of those in this cave! Due to the fact that you're much faster than Typhon and that Hydro Pump is a really powerful attack, you should be able to attack and hide before the attack comes your way. Qing Long, while Rebel is hiding from the Hydro Pump, use a Thunder Wave on Nidhogg to slow it down. There are no abilities active, so he won't be able to get rid of the status!

Qing Long, an Ice Beam is going to come your way right after that. Let's see if we can get some friendly fire going; ExtremeSpeed to hit Nidhogg and hide behind the Dragonair so that Typhon's Ice Beam hits Nidhogg instead of you. You're much smaller than he is, so his body will shield you from the attack. Rebel, another Water attack is going to be aimed at you soon. Using the same strategy, zip out into the open and fire off an AncientPower at Typhon while you continue to move. Keep on moving until you get cover from another large rock, and hide there.

Now that there's not another attack coming your way Rebel, get out in the open and fire Metal Sound soundwaves at both Nidhogg and Typhon; try and fire them in a close burst instead of a pulse so that Qing Long doesn't have to hear it. Qing Long, back up quickly away from your two opponents so you can avoid the metal sound and shoot a Dragon Pulse at Nidhogg before it attacks you.

A howling wind blasts through the hollow cave, sending a shudder through everyone's backs. Then, the referee gives sign to begin - let's go!

Rebel takes the initiative and fires off sharpened rocks with his mental powers, aiming at Typhon. The Power Gems severely wound the icy skin of the Lapras. Meanwhile, Nidhogg attempts to summon rain, but then realizes that he is in a dark, underground cave which is unlikely to contain clouds. To add insult to injury, Qing Long fires off a weak jolt of electricity and paralyzes him. Careless about what happens around him, Typhon emits a huge blast of water to strike the Rebble while he attempts to find cover. Sadly for the latter, the Hydro Pump hits him before he manages to reach safety.

Before anyone else can react, Qing Long follows up with an incredibly fast attack, which leaves an annoying (for the target, at least) dent into the already paralyzed Nidhogg. While his mate moves at Extremespeed, Rebel taps into his ancestral energies to summon a barrage of rocks, and strikes Typhon with his Ancientpower. Even if his gut would suggest him to hit that annoying piece of rock which keep harassing him, Typhon carries off the orders of his trainer and blast Qing Long with an Ice Beam, which barely misses the mate Nidhogg. But the Lapras has little to worry about, because the Dragonair comes to the rescue - despite the paralysis. From far behind comes a grave rumble, before a tidal wave submerges all the contenders (bar the same Nidhogg who conveniently Surfs over it). Even the fellow Typhon is hit by the tide (although lightly, because of his natural resistance to water attacks), but most importantly, Qing Long is kind of repelled back, and the Rebble is, once again, severely damaged.

Angered by all the water thrown at him, Rebel retaliates with a nasty noise, which severely weakens his opponents' resolve. Nidhogg falls prey of the Metal Sound, but Typhon manages to avoid its effects. The mate Qing Long steps back to avoid the friend's move, and blasts Nidhogg with a Dragon Pulse. The Dragonair pays it back in the same way, although at slightly weaker power. Meanwhile, Typhon supports the mate's offense by firing a highly-pressured jet of water at the Dratini, who, despite the familiarity with the water, still finds the Hydro Pump to sting more than expected.

Dragon Pulse (on Dratini): (9 [AP] + 3 [STAB] + 1.5 [Stat Dif]) * 1.5 = 20 damage, 6 energy
Hydro Pump: (12 [AP] + 3 [STAB] + 3 [Stat Dif]) * 0.67 = 12 damage, 7+4 energy

Before concluding this round, allow me to specify one thing: under no circumstances I will allow a Pokémon to dodge and attack in the same action save very situational moments like the use of Dig, Fly and similar moves. So you cannot expect, for example, to be able to fire off a Power Gem and dodge the Hydro Pump at the same time, no matter how much you're fast.

Engineer Pikachu goes first now.

meh, very well.

This wasn't exactly a good round, so you'll just have to dish out as much damage before you die.

Rebel: Power Gem - AncientPower - Power Gem all at Nidhogg
Qing Long: Dragon Pulse - Ice Beam - Dragon Pulse all at Nidhogg.

Let's kill one before you guys die.

That didn't go well for me either, Engineer. Although, I think we can reasonably try the same strategy!

Typhon, you use Ice Beam three times against that Dratini. If it faints, then use Hydro Pump against Rebble until the end of the round.

Nidhogg, you use Dragon Pulse three times against Dratini, and if it faints then use Surf over the field again.

Something had better die damn soon.

Hey, looks like the battle is getting more tense now! Rebel skates over the battlefield and charges toward Nidhogg, firing a Power Gem right in his face. Qing Long supports his mate's offense and conjures a freezing ray of frost. The Ice Beam pierces violently through the Dragonair's suffering skin, and it scores a critical hit. Angered by the wounds of his friend, Typhon pays back with an Ice Beam on his own, freezing the opponent from the snout to the tail and knocking him out. Engineer Pikachu manages to call him back an instant before Nidhogg blasts the place with a Dragon Pulse.

Worried about being left alone against those two monsters, Rebel doesn't still lose faith and use his primal forces to slam Nidhogg with his Ancientpower. However, mighty jet of water expelled by Typhon first, and the tidal wave summoned by Nidhogg later leave him only with a sliver of health. "Hang in there, Rebel!", attempt to encourage him his trainer (Incidentally, the Lapras glares angrily at the mate, irritated by the wave of water hitting him for a critical hit)

The Rebble desperately attempts to repel the assault firing a barrage of Power Gems at the Dragonair, but in vain. A second high-pressured Hydro Pump from the Lapras proves to be too much for our rocky friend, who finally falls in defeat.

Congratulations, Athenorodos, on your success!

gg Engineer. We should have another match some time, and I might not use such relatively OP Pokemon.

EDIT: I kind of expected yours to be more powerful. I guessed badly.

same to you, Athenodoros.

I was slightly disappointed by your use of those Pokemon; I expected to have a more fair matchup. Regardless, it sure was fun!

Wow, it's over so quickly (just 9 pages)? What a shame. :\

It makes me think there really should be some sort of restruction on battles like this to prevent players with so many evolved Pokemon from ganging up on less experienced players like this. It really isn't fair at all.

Athenodoros

Official Smogon Know-It-All
There will have to be something like this in future. Although, I would like to say that this is Typhon the Lapras' first battle, so it wasn't really experience so much. I honestly thought this would be a more even matchup, because I didn't think Lapras would be such a demi-god in Doubles.

I haven't looked at its stats, but if they're what I think they are combined with its movepool, I imagine Lapras would be a beast in ASB in general. (Although I do see what you mean)
