reusing this one
I won't be using anything too powerful here, hopefully my opponent is cool with nothing being fully evolved

Arena: A vast Jungle arena with several waterfalls and pools of water. A large quantity of brush and undergrowth fill the vast amounts of land with lots of trees filling the canopy. So basically, it should look like this:

waterfall.jpg

Goldenknight I'll accept.

So here we are, in the middle of some random, nameless jungle, where two exceptional Pokemon Trainers are about to do battle!

GK also PMed me the rest of the rules:

Switch=Um...
One Ability
No Items

Both GK and Charmander have agreed to use their respective Volcarona, so I'll go ahead and release them both:

It's time for yet another exciting ASB battle!

Both Trainers' Pokemon--both of which, incidentally, are Larvesta--are already on the field. GoldenKnight's fire bug strikes first, launching an orb of Toxic ooze at Charmander's! It's a direct hit! Flare will be feeling the effects of the poison throughout the battle! Apparently angry about this, Flare aims a blast of fire at his doppelganger, hitting for excellent damage! But wait--Tezcat appears to be channeling his power into a Fire Blast of his own, doing a similar amount of damage! At this point, though, Flare appears to be focusing on clearing the skies and summoning a Sunny Day--and it's working! The sunlight just got a whole lot stronger--I can even feel it up here in the booth!

But the sudden sunlight doesn't seem to faze Tezcat, who promptly fires a String Shot at his enemy. Despite suddenly slowing down by a lot, Flare finds the strength to fire a sun-boosted Fire Blast! Because of the bright sunlight, this one does even more damage than the last one!

Both Pokemon have come out fighting today! What will happen in the next round? We'll be back after the break to find out!

You guys may want to check my calcs, I'm not sure I factored in the Sunny Day boost correctly.

Tezcat's Toxic: RNG rolls 560; Toxic hits, Flare is now Poisoned. Tezcat expends 7 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 744; Fire Blast hits. Deals 15 damage to Tezcat. Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 1 Poison damage.

Tezcat's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 90; Fire Blast hits. Deals 15 damage to Flare. Tezcat expends 7 Energy.

Flare's Sunny Day: The sunlight turns harsh, powering up all Fire-type attacks by a factor of 1.5 for 5 rounds. Flare expends 9 Energy, and takes 1 Poison damage.

Tezcat's String Shot: RNG rolls 679; String Shot hits. Flare's Speed is lowered by one stage. Tezcat expends 5 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 99; Fire Blast hits. Deals 21 damage to Tezcat. Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 1 Poison damage.

how is the jungle responding to all these fire blasts? i'm also not sure if the sun is getting through the dense growth, can you shed some light on where we are?

anyways, let's go ahead and match fire blasts follow up by using string shot evasively to climb into a tree. From there, go ahead and use another fire blast while hopefully forcing the nature conscious bug to let up a little bit.

About time I updated this...

Also, GK, I was planning on only having missed attacks affect the environment. (As you'll see below...) As far as the dense growth, not a lot of light is getting through, but just enough for a Fire-type attack to get the usual boost.

Anywho...

The second round opens with Tezcat attempting to launch a blast of fire at his opponent! But it looks like--yes, Flare dodged just in time! The searing blast instead hits a nearby tree, setting it on fire! Look at it burn--the sun isn't helping slow it down at all! Flare retaliates with his own brand of Fire Blast--but he misses too, setting the tree behind Tezcat ablaze as well!

Undaunted by the flames, Tezcatlipoca attempts to use String Shot to pull himself up the blazing tree behind him! But the heat melts the string, causing it to fall! Luckily Tezcat hadn't put any weight on it yet! As if to show him how it's done, Flare shoots string right at Tezcat, and it's a direct hit! Tezcat just slowed down to Flare's pace!

Tezcat tries one more Fire Blast, but he misses again, setting yet more foliage on fire! Smokey's not going to be happy about this! Flare does the same, but actually manages to hit Tezcat for good damage! (Finally...)

GoldenKnight and Tezcatlipoca got haxxed pretty bad in that round, but the poison is starting to take its toll on Flare. Who will survive to take the battle? We'll be back after this commercial break!

GoldenKnight, you're up!

Tezcat's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 957; Fire Blast misses, hits nearby tree, which catches on fire. Tezcat expends 7 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 997; Fire Blast misses, hits tree behind Tezcat, catching it on fire as well. Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 2 Poison damage.

Tezcat's String Shot: Tezcat attempts to climb tree behind him, but as it is on fire, it melts the string and the move fails. Tezcat expends 5 Energy.

Flare's String Shot: RNG rolls 203; String Shot hits. Tezcat's Speed is lowered by one stage until the end of next round. Flare expends 5 Energy, and takes 2 Poison damage.

Tezcat's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 961; Fire Blast misses, sets another tree on fire. Tezcat expends 7 Energy (and seriously pisses off Smokey the Bear).

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 239; Fire Blast hits (finally!). Deals 21 damage to Tezcat. Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 2 Poison damage.

Tezcat decides to take a break from the battle, basking in the Morning Sun and restoring his HP. Furious at his opponent's apparent apathy towards the battle, Flare charges up a powerful Fire Blast and sends it directly into Tezcat's face! That squealing you hear coming from Tezcat is a sure sign of a critical hit!

Now recovered from his shock, Tezcat shoots a Fire Blast right back at Flare! It's a hit! But Flare seemed to take it well, starting to bathe in the Morning Sun himself!

Meanwhile, Tezcat...does exactly the same thing! Apparently the Morning Sun is popular around here. But Flare obviously hates copycats, judging by the Fire Blast he launches at Tezcat. But he missed again! The fire has now engulfed the entire arena, powering up Fire moves! Where's a Water-type when you need one? Don't these Trainers fear for their lives?

Don't go away, things are just...heating up.

(For the record, RNG is crazy.)

Charmander, you lucky bastard. Make your move.

Tezcat's Morning Sun: Tezcat restores 35 HP. Tezcat expends 15 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 299; Fire Blast hits. Deals 24 damage to Tezcat (RNG rolls critical hit...). Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 3 Poison damage.

Tezcat's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 77; Fire Blast hits. Deals 21 damage to Flare. Tezcat expends 7 Energy.

Flare's Morning Sun: Flare restores 35 HP. Flare expends 15 Energy, and takes 3 Poison damage.

Tezcat's Morning Sun: Tezcat restores 35 HP. Tezcat expends 15 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 961; Fire Blast misses, intensifying the fire (since there isn't much left to catch fire). Starting next round, Fire moves will now be boosted by a factor of 2 rather than the usual 1.5. Flare expends 7 Energy, and takes 3 Poison damage.

we might as well go with a different approach to this

Start out by using psychic, not to hurt flare, but to redirect the fire blast onto something that isn't you. After that crit with a fire blast and hope for the best there. Finish up by redirecting the fire blast with psychic again.

Again, doing any damage with psychic is not my first goal here, I just don't want it doing any damage to me! I know it was made so Psychic couldn't do damage while messing with other things at the same time, but I'm missing the link

I will delete this post after it is taken into account.

Psychic:

What Fighting is to physical prowess, Psychic is to mental. Psychic types sense opponents energy in addition to any visual or hearing confirmation, allowing them to strike opponents from a great distance with their mental assualts and strike them even if they are physically blinded or inhibited. The same is not true if their mental concentration is disrupted through aggravating sounds. They also have a great deal of their own support moves, rivaling those of the Normal type. Psychic Pokemon are deep into mental energy, and thus they can also use ki attacks fairly effectively. Psychic types have instensely strong minds, and can fling opponents with Psychic attacks that their non-Psychic counterparts cannot.

Larvesta isn't Psychic, so it can't redirect attacks.

However, it also says:

Copypasta from Data Audit Thread said:
While Psychic (the attack) can redirect energy attacks somewhat, it must be focused on the attack, not the Pokemon issuing it in order to have any function to that effect.

As such, GK's order is valid. I'll post the reffing sometime tomorrow.

EDIT: After some thought, I'll still allow GK's order, but I'll tack on an additional 2 Energy cost since Tezcat has to focus squarely on the Fire Blast.

And we're back after a server crash! Yay!

Flare

Both Pokemon seem to be on their last legs (?) as the battle draws to a close! Flare ties to take initiative by drawing some of the fire from the inferno surrounding them and launching a Fire Blast attack at Tezcat, and it--wait a minute! Tezcat has channeled his inner Psychic and stopped the blast in its tracks! This mental exertion is obviously not common for the little insect, though! He flings it aside, only adding to the incendiary destruction!

Frustrated by these developments, Flare gives Tezcat the cold shoulder (not easy, considering the forest is burning down around them!) and basks in the Morning Sun, restoring his HP! But Tezcat is not impressed! He, too, draws power from the fire around them as well as the sunlight and blasts Flare with his own shot of fire! What a hit! Flare is panting and wheezing heavily, but I don't think it's because of the attack...

Flare summons what's left of his energy and tries one more Fire Blast--but just like last time, Tezcat parries the blast with Psychic!

Going into next round, Tezcat seems seriously tired, and Flare--wait! Flare's reeling--and over he goes! He's expended all of his energy! The battle is over!

But hold on! Out of nowhere come a whole squad of police officers and firefighters! The two Trainers are slammed to the ground and handcuffed instantly by the fuzz! Good God, I'd better get out of here before--

Tezcat's Psychic: Diverts Fire Blast, but uses more energy. Tezcat expends 9 Energy.

Flare's Morning Sun: Flare restores 35 HP. Flare expends 15 Energy, and takes 4 Poison damage.

Tezcat's Fire Blast: RNG rolls 801; Fire Blast hits. Deals 24 damage to Flare. Tezcat expends 7 Energy.

Flare's Fire Blast: Attack diverted by Tezcat's Psychic (below). Flare expends 7 Energy, bringing it to 0 Energy. Therefore, Flare faints.
