Froslass Discussion

Froslass
Ability: Snow Hide
Type: Ice/Ghost
Stats: HP 70/ATT 80/DEF 70/SP.ATT 80/SP.DEF 70/SPEED 110

With People's fondness of Landshark, I was thinking of various pokemon that could be used to counter it, and this one came to mind fairly quickly so I figured I would get a sense of what you all thought.

Some notable moves are:

Physical
Ice Fang
Snow Slide
Crunch
Quick Revenge
Awaken Slap
Headbutt
Ice Pebble

Special
Hidden Power
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Psychic

Support
Icy Wind
Thunder Wave
Substitute
Snatch
Torment
Safeguard
Light Screen
Taunt
Destiny Bond
Toxic
Confuse Ray
Spikes

Alright now here I guess is where the real meat of the question comes into play...

Froslass@Item of your choice(AG,Ad Scarf, Leftovers, etc)
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Special Attack 196(I think it is) Speed, Rest in HP
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Destiny Bond/T-Wave/Utility of choice

Timid Froslass with roughly 196 Speed EVs makes it 334 Speed which is faster than Jolly Garchomp at 333 Speed (If Garchomp has full Speed EVs) I decided against a full Speed EV distribution, because I doubt you would want it to stay in against Timid Full Speed EV Shadow Ball Gengar, when you would be basically flipping a coin to see who goes first. If you face a Modest Gengar you are faster anyway. It should OHKO Garchomp, and give some Non-Stone Edge Gyarados setups problems, if on an even footing. Want to know what everyone thinks of Froslass.

Ok how this thing learns Crunch is beyond me.

It's probably going to be BL at best. It's IMO a fun spiker to use, being able to Mess up any spinner not called Armaldo/Torkoal. And it can surprise stuff with Destiny Bond + Base 110 Speed

It also has an awesome design, one of the best IMO, but it's DP sprite is a little weird.

Too bad it didn't get Will-o-Wisp like other ghosts. Or Levitate. Or Calm Mind. Or Hypnosis. It's 1 of the 2 ghosts that doesn't learn Trick Room, the other being Giratina (why?)

Nice set, but I doubt anyone would leave in Garchomp on a Froslass, or any potential threat. It might work if Gar is one of the few pokemon left and doesn't have that many switching options.

right that IS what i figured SolarHavok, but thats where some of the utility could come into play, if you have this out vs a Garchomp its switching out perhaps giving you a free Spikes Setup, or Thunder Wave to paralyze something that might come in on you, that kinda thing. Most likely some water type comes in to buffer the ice beam, but then the water pokemon might have some problems with thunderbolt... I just wonder how useful this would be in practice rather than in theory, can't wait to try it out though.

Edit: My main concern is something like Tyranitar Switching in on it, which would force Froslass to run away, and giving tyranitar a free dragon dance or such...

Froslass does learn sing via Pokemon XD. But the accuracy for sing sucks. Anyways I love the destiny bond set on this. Spikes is very nice!

Yeah whenever a predicted switch occurs, use Twave. Pretty much solves anything that is fast problems. Weavile/mence/gar/anything else that is not immune because Twave is an awesome move.

I'm hoping it gets UU, it'll fit nicely in there. BL is a bad place to be.

I think, ThunderWave/Spikes/Ice Beam/Shadow Ball would be good for UU, although Lanturn will give it problems.

Link to the serebii page.

Its Ok. Typing is good and bad, stabbed Ice beam and shadow ball is cool, but weakness to stealth rock and not resisting much isnt. Its speed is nice, and because of this, it can get some spikes in. If it can get in in the first place though.

@Leftovers/Life Orb
Ice Beam
Shadow Ball/T-Bolt
Spikes
D-Bond

Get in, spikes on the switch, if its a spinner, you own most of them with your STABbed moves, if it isnt, switch. Repeat if you can and get as many spikes in as you can whilst blocking rapid spin, when you feel its done it job, get in one more kill with destiny bond. With its speed, this works nicely, but its pretty fragile.

Does Frolass even have the defenses to be a spiker?

I'm liking the Ice Beam and Shadow Ball STAB though. And I don't think Frolass can have Sing and Spike on the same set.

I doubt I would even bother with Spikes. Spikes is good on Skarmory because it can come out easily, and sit there for a while and set up, but Froslass won't be out for long, given the variety of weaknesses. Ice Beam/Thunder Wave is a generally good combination, but watch out for Electivire, who kicks your ass.

Destiny Bond/Thunder Wave/Ice Beam/filler could prove to be pretty effective. As far as fillers go, HP Grass is probably handy to beat Swampert, but you can also try Thunderbolt or Shadow Ball.

Two immunities helps her set up Spikes a little, but being constantly at risk of something with Pursuit coming in doesn't. Stealth Rock weakness doesn't help either.

BoltBeam/Destiny Bond/Thunder Wave seems ok to me.

if this isn't BL, i'll use it in UU a lot.

i really like the BoltBeamSpikesBond set. it definitely has the speed to pull destiny bond off.

No, but its typing and prediction forces switches, meaning you can spike on a switch.

Yea, good point, you would get a free spikes in on the switchout... This thing has "some" use and utility use in the OU metagame (such as countering Garchomp) and it it doesnt turn out to work, should be at least decent for the UU Metagame which quite frankly was what i was hoping for when i proposed it asking about it. It will be interesting to see how many people have this on a team as a spiker, or how many go for the utility of the fast destiny bond instead, or even how many do both.

Misty, Spikes would be the filler on your set. It's alot like Deoxys-E in the Spiking regard, it can, but only on switches. It won't be common at all, but it shouldn't be called UU without good reason.

Gimmick:
@Salac Berry
~Block
~Taunt
~Ice Beam
~Destiny Bond

Come in on garchompy eq to activate salac, block on the switch, taunt them if you think they'll try to do some statusing, if not destiny bond. Pretty Simple.

Also, I just realized how much this thing absolutely screws blissey with taunt, immunity to s-toss, and ice beam resist.

This is 2 sets in one.

Froslass@Choice Specs
Timid
196SP.Atk/248Spd/66HP
Shadow ball
ThundrBolt
Ice beam
Psychic/HP(Ground)

Hmmmm. Choice Spec Leader...This set Out speeds Salamence and Gyrados without Scarf. This set also Even Without specs 1HKOs Salamence with Ice Beam, and Gyrados with Thunderbolt. If you anticipate the switch you can 2HKO Electivire with Hidden Power.

Froslass doesn't counter garchomp, as it can't switch in to any of its moves(except a swords dance)
