Raticate Discussion

The last one was old, so I made this one. Nothing else to it.

#020 Raticate
Base Stats: 55 HP / 81 Atk / 60 Def / 50 SAtk/ 70 SDef / 97 Spd

Stab in bold.
Notable Physical Movepool
Pursuit
Sucker Punch
Crunch
Flame Wheel
Reversal
Body Slam
Double Edge
Return
U-Turn
Facade

Its pretty okay. U-Turn and moderately high speed can make it a scout, I suppose. It can also reversal, since it has okay speed and weak defenses, so Focus Strip/Endure can be helpful.

Notable Special Movepool
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Charge Beam
Grass Knot
Shadow Ball

With 50 base stat SAtk, this won't do anything.

Notable Support Movepool
Swords Dance
Super Fang
Endeavor
Counter
Me First
Swagger
Thunder Wave
Substitute
Endure
Roar
Taunt
Toxic

Thats alot. Thunder Wave can help, and I guess toxic could too. Swords Dance and Super Fang are pretty helpful.

I'm still an apprentice moveset maker, but I think Raticate works as a Reversaler.

Raticate @ Focus Sash
Nature: Jolly (+Spd -SAtk)
252Atk, 252Spd, 4HP
-Endure(/Counter?)
-Reversal
-Endeavor/Super Fang/Flame Wheel/Return/U-Turn/Crunch/Body Slam
-Endeavor/Super Fang/Flame Wheel/Return/U-Turn/Crunch/Body Slam

Take a hit and hold onto life with Focus Sash, then reversal/counter. Or, if you're not at full health, consider Endure. Endeavor makes a follow-up move, or get the heck out of there with U-Turn. High speed means you may be able to get off another reversal, but remember that there are many faster things than Raticate.

Anywho, discuss the rodent.

if your taking raticate into UU you sould conster a swords dance rock smash (which is now 40 BP now) will do something to aggron who will otherwise wall you all day

Raticate @ Focus Sash
Nature: Jolly (+Att, -Spd)
252Att, 252Spd, 4hp
Endeavor
QuickAttack/Sucker Punch
Reversal
Me First

There you go. Have fun. 97 Speed is actually pretty decent since it's pretty close to the minimum 100 base speed. Against Faster stuff that can kill you, use Endeavor and then finish off with Quick Attack or Sucker Punch. Against Slower Stuff, use Me first to attack them with their own attack (Like Attacking a Rhyperior with it's own Earthquake). Once you're in the red, use reversal to deal massive damage.

Actually, it would be fun to take a massive hit at full HP that would normally kill you, and then survive with Focus Sash, use Endeavor on the same turn and then finish off with Quick Attack. I think that would work... but then again, I've never seen Endeavor in action. It WOULD be hilarious to watch Salamence DD 6 times in your face and then kill it with Raticate. XD You can't sweep this way, obviously, but it's a great way to prevent the opponent from sweeping YOU.

Don't use Raticate when you aren't using Super Fang, imo. Doing 50% damage to a Pokemon with hitting and running is the best thing this can do.

Guts Abuse set:
Raticate@Flame/Toxic Orb
~U-Turn
~Facade
~Protect
~Sucker Punch
Basically, Protect to scout for moves and activate your status orb, and then pick the appropriate attack. Toxic Orb doesn't tie with Flame Orb in damage until the third turn, so it depends on how long you want Ratty to be out.

Could you or someone please explain the difference and why damage would be greater after three turns? I thoughts guts just boosted attack if you had a status condition, and being burned reduced your attack.

Interesting, I didn't know that at all. Is there a reason burn is better than being poisoned though? Do you get different levels of attack power, or do you get stronger as you lose HP? (referencing whatever was said before about flame/toxic orb)

the toxic orb inflicts toxic status not normal poison so its 1/16/ 2/16/ 3/16 which is less than 1/8 1/8 1/8 in 3 turns

Okay, I think I finally understand what you're saying and I'm probably just stupid for not understanding the percentages.

And on the third turn they WOULD be tied in damage, hmm. Pity there isn't an item that just inflicts poison. :/
