This thing may be unevolved, but it has its two signature items, Deepseascale (Doubles its Sp. Def) and Deepseatooth (Doubles its Sp. Attack).

Base stats

HP - 35
Attack - 64
Defense - 85
Special attack - 74
Special defense - 55
Speed - 32

Physical Movepool

Clamp
Body Slam

These are the only two moves that might even slightly help, although probably not.

Special Movepool

Surf
Ice Beam
Brine
Blizzard
Hidden Power

Not very big at all, but chances are you probably won't need more than 3 attacking moves anyway because it needs some way to survive. Still killer with 542 special attack (with deepseatooth).

Support Movepool

Toxic
Barrier
Protect
Double Team
Attract
Substitute
Confuse Ray
Aqua Ring

It might be a good idea to use at least one of these in your set so you have at least some kind of chance of getting a hit off.

Possible set:

Clamperl w/Deepseatooth
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 252spAtk/252hp/4spd
Modest Nature (+Spatk -Atk)

- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Grass/Electric
- Confuse Ray

Essentially you want to take a little hits as possible and try to hit as hard as you can with that 542 sp.atk. Incredibly hard to switch in though, and also really slow, may be able to get off a few hits if the opponent is paralyzed. Confuse ray to help it get a hit off.

This guy hasn't changed a huge amount from the previous generation, but if it does happen to get any kind of hit off, it's going to hurt.

Discuss this thing.

Personally, I think Clamperl could make an interesting staller, if you beefed up it's HP and Def and gave it DeepSeaScale. You even have access to pseudo-Leftovers with Aqua Ring.

Something like Toxic/Double Team/Aqua Ring/Filler (Dive?) could work, I suppose.

I remember takin' names with a Deepseatooth Clamperl back on Netbattle like a year or two ago, very good, had to pass on speed via Ninjask though (also had Marowak in team, kinda overkill).. this gen though, Trick Room allows it to attack with less setup-required.

I like Clamperl, walled by any water pokemon really, but it's cool.
Empoleon stops it with ease, and Vaporeon basically takes 0 damage from it.

Empoleon and Vaporeon both get a huge chunk taken out by Hidden Power Electric though.

Bronzong @ Leftovers
-Rain Dance
-Trick Room
-Explosion
-filler

Clamperl @ Deepsea Tooth
-Surf
-Ice beam
-Protect
-Substitute

2v2 strategy:
Turn 1:
Bronzong uses Trick Room. Clamperl Protects.
Turn 2:
Super Fast Clamperl throws up Substitute. Bronzong uses Rain dance.
Turn 3:
Super Fast Clamperl Protects. Bronzong Explodes.
Turn...:
Super Fast Clamperl sweeps with Mega Power Surf.

Maybe good maybe not... You could also skip the Explosion and start Surfing on round 3 to take maximum advantage of your turns with Trick Room + Rain Dance.

@up I think it could work in 1vs1, too. Just instead of Lefties give bronzong wet rock, and give clamperl HP Electric over Sub, and maybe something over protect...

Don't forget, you'll need a suitable pokemon to take Bronzong's place when it explodes. I'd recommend Parasect, because it takes advantage of both Rain Dance and the Surf, and it's a Physical attacker to balance Clamperl's Special Attacking, not to mention that being a Grass/Bug type gives it STAB attacks against things that won't be hit hard by Surf or Ice Beam, and it also learns Spore.

Parasect @ Life Orb/Power item
Dry Skin
- Spore
- X-Scissor
- Bullet Seed
- Brick Break

Simply put, Dry Skin will make Parasect heal due to both Rain Dance and Surf, X-scissor will hit Psychics, Grasses, and Darks, Bullet Seed hits Waters, Grounds, and Rocks, and Brick Break hits Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. The important part is that X-Scissor will hit Grasses, Bullet Seed will hit Waters, and Brick Break will hit Ice types. Spore is useful against any pokemon that might be a problem, and is especially useful when Trick Room is about to run out.
